I am disgusted by this spa and how managers react when an esthetician hurts the client. Here is my story.. I wanted to go to a "nicer" spa for a facial on my birthday so my mother found this place with based solely on reviews. The esthetician that did my facial was Nancy who had 20+ years doing this. I like a calm, quite environment but she spoke through the entire facial which was not pleasant as this is the time to relax. Given Nancy's experience, I would hope she knew the difference between pimples and skin colored moles/bumps on the face, however.. she did not. Nancy extracted pimples along with two skin-colored moles which bled during the facial and she did not tell me. I could not tell directly after as my face looked red, but the next day as my skin calmed down, I saw the damage that was done. I immediately called the spa to let them know what happened. There are several managers at AF Bennet. The first I spoke with was Theresa, I sent her a picture since I lived in a different borough so I would have to pay a toll. Then, she said I would have to come in so she can look more closely at it as if she did not believe me. I went in on my birthday which is not something I wanted to do but I wanted her to see what Nancy had done to my face. She took pictures and told me she would send them to the other managers. Theresa made it as if it was no big deal and she scratches marks like that all the time and it will go away. I asked for the money back but instead she said "How about you come in on a day Nancy is not there?" Theresa completely ignored what I wanted and gave me some acne cream and told me to cover it as it was under my glasses. I said I should see a doctor because I was in pain, she said just put this on it with another esthetician and there was no need for a doctor's appointment. I wish I listened to my gut and went to a doctor. A month passed and it was not healing. It was red and still bleeding so I called back and spoke with Theresa again but now her attitude completely changed. She was nasty about it but I insisted I wanted my money back. She would have to get back to me. I kept calling and then got another manager Michele, who had no idea what happened even though Theresa said she would share the pictures she took of my face. Again, I was running after Michele to get a response as she was not the general manager. Tina, general manager was finally made aware of the situation when I got ahold of her. I was disgusted that Theresa never shared the pictures she took of my face with her. Theresa took pictures of my face and just kept them in her phone?? At first, Tina sounded sincere about the situation, I had to explain everything from the beginning as Theresa never told her anything. I told her I've been in pain due to the negligence of Nancy. I was refunded when I told her it was healing and that I will not come back. She said I need more details to know what is going on with your face. So, I sent her the information and she told me it must be an underlying condition. This would have eventually come out anyways. I never had a problem with this area before and I get skin checks every year yet a general manager read a summary from an MD and determined this. I am absolutely appalled by all of the people at this place. If this was their daughter, sister, etc.. I bet their reaction would be different. I am now going for a confoccal imaging procedure to make sure everything is ok and they do not want to pay for this. If I have to take further action after the procedure, I will take them to court. This place does not care about people. I would look elsewhere if you want a facial!! read more

The salon is very clean and everyone was fairly polite and sweet. only mistake I did "was not ask for a quote before I took services" so I can't be too upset at the salon. I haven't done my hair and make up in a while at a salon so I was a bit scared when I heard my total. just ask for a quote to make sure you are comfortable with the price. besides that I have no complaints they are amazing! Walking into AF Bennett I was offered a menu of complimentary beverages, the hot chocolate finished tiny marshmallows and a dash of sprinkles- yumm! Next I was taking to spa waiting room for lockerarea and robes for a steam before massage. Excellent service and a calm and relaxing waiting area. As a new mom with a one-year old, I don't get much time to take care of and treat myself. Immediately upon walking in to the salon, I was greeted by a super kind and attentive hostess / receptionist who took my temperature and asked me to sign a waiver relating to COVID-19 precautions and offered me a drink. The cappuccino was delicious! It even had a touch of cinnamon on top. I was then brought back to Vildana's chair, where I felt like a star. She offered me a drink as well, and talked to me in such an earnest and kind way about what we would do with my hair that day. She really wanted to hear my input and vision. I am a brunette and wanted to go very light with balayage, and she made it happen!! I was also in desperate need of a haircut, and she took care of that too. She is so skilled and knowledgeable; I trust her completely. Which is exactly what you want in a stylist! I should mention that when I first sat in her chair, I had felt embarrassed about how unkempt and in need of a refresh I was, and she told me simple words that calmed me down, "We're going to take care of you, today." I used to get my hair cut here when they first opened. It's very fancy, and being the plain jane I am, I wasn't used to it, but they always made me feel welcome and important. I lived in Brooklyn for almost 20 years and usually got a $10 haircut from one of the places on 5th Avenue because at least 3 nice salons refused to cut my hair. I have a pixie, and the stylists didn't know how to cut it and didn't want to take a chance. When I moved back to SI, I figured I'd start getting good haircuts again. Of course, my first choice salon was AF Bennett since I know it's such a great salon. It's still really fancy and felt out of place my first time back, but everyone there is so friendly and treats all of the customers like they're the most important person there. I'm really happy I returned because I found the best stylist ever!! Allison takes such good care of me. She's super sweet, and I genuinely enjoy chatting with her. Not to mention she gives me the best haircuts I've ever had. She knows just how to style it and make it so that when it starts to grow out, it still looks good- not an easy feat for short hair. Caitlin from A.F. Bennett Salon is absolutely amazinggg. I came into the salon last week without an appointment with such crazy matted hair that I was THIS close to just buzzing it off. The reason for all the matting was that I get my hair colored at a (different) salon every 2 months on the dot for the past 5 years. All that frequent dyeing left my hair in poor shape and extremely easy to for it to knot and tangle. I was not doing well prior to coming in to the salon and would just put my hair in a bun and go to work for two weeks before walking into the salon that day. I was not looking after my hair which resulted in a massive bird's nest on top of my head once I would untie my hair. On top of that, my hair was LONG. They took at look at my hair and were so kind. They stated they would see what they could do. They worked tirelessly to get all the matting and tangles out so that I didn't have to shave my hair. Caitlin was the main person working on my hair and if it wasn't for her, I'd be bald right now! After hours of de-matting my hair, she did a treatment on it and cut it into a cute length style. I am going to start growing out my hair again but right now I am happy with this short low maintenance hair. I am so grateful for her. The staff here is wonderful! read more

Since coming here for hair services for the first time 2 months ago, I can now confirm that I will never go to another hair salon for as long as Vildana is here at AF Bennett. The first time she worked on my hair 2 months ago, I told her I didn't want anything too drastic. I had looong straight hair that was very dull and lifeless. Had some treatment done on my hair during the wash, which made my hair very shiny. During the cut, she made sure I was comfortable with the length of hair she would be chopping off before she did it. She even taught me a trick on how to dry my hair in order to give more volume and lift the roots. By the end, I had shiny hair that framed my face nicely, with a bit of volume too! Today is the second time she worked on my hair. I didn't have to specify much, except that I wanted to chop more length off. Honestly, I have never told a stylist to cut my hair past above my waist. My long hair was a prized possession since forever. By telling Vildana I was willing to cut more inches off, I was essentially putting all my trust in her styling abilities that she would be able to make even a more drastic cut work. And it paid off! Same hair treatment for the shine, and this time with the added layers at the back, my hair looked more full and healthier than ever! I've already made my next appointment for a coloring consultation and session. Vildana makes me feel that I can trust her with making the right decisions specifically for my hair. The girls are the front desk did not even apologize for the wait time nor did they even check to see what the hold up was. After waiting 35 minutes I told them I couldn't wait any longer and would need to reschedule and again still no apology! I have never experienced such rude service!!!! I've been coming here for a long time ! Not just for hair, but for massages, facials, and waxing as well. I will say the service at the front desk has gone down hill in terms of waiting for appointments, scheduling appointments and overall dealing with customers. I thought it had just been myself, but my mom is a long time customer as well and goes every couple of weeks for coloring and has had the same issues. I had previously been seeing Nancy for facials and waxing. Last time I was there, a issue with my appointment had come up as they had forgot I booked both a facial and waxing. Besides complaining the whole time about the front desk, I assume Nancy had been rushing because I had a huge red mark on my leg from the wax, similar to a burn. I switched to European wax center and never had a problem since. At that point I just decided that I would use this salon for massages and hair only. The facial was subpar that day as well. Everyone is entitled to a bad day, just not at those prices. About a week or two ago I called to schedule a couples massage. I was told by heather I needed to give a credit card number to hold the appointment. I said really because I never had to Do that before ? She said it was because I was holding two appointments with two therapists. On one hand I can understand that, and on the other hand I've booked multiple sessions for a day for different things and never had to do that. I explained I was driving and she was on speaker phone and I couldn't get my card at the moment. Rather then offering to hold the appointment and have me call back with the card, the call ended there. I want to continue using this place for hair cuts and makeup applications, but these customer service issues really need to addressed. read more

Just check the pictures of my gel mani - it looks like it was done by amateur - my nails are soft, gel is already cracked, I don't mention how clean the work is... Ok, this spa is well known on the island. Not sure why, maybe the notoriety of how ridiculously overpriced it is. They have a valet service which is absolutely unnecessary if you know the area the salon is in, you'd understand why I say that. I came here for a waxing and they offered me a drink while I was waiting, and a gel neck rest which was nice. The decor inside is gorgeous but what is up with the nasty, obnoxious, snooty staff!?! The moment you walk in you can instantly sense the staff and ladies at the front are judging you. They aren't friendly and pretty much ignore you and give off a "I'm better than you" attitude. My waxing was done well though, and the woman who did it for me was curt but friendlier than the front staff. The prices are ridiculous though, for the same services you can get for 1/4 of the price with a nicer staff and clean salon at loads of other places on the island. I would definitely not recommend this place to my friends or other people unless they feel like wasting their money on sub-par service. read more

Definitely the best spa on Staten Island, unless I am looking over some major new development. Bennett offers the full range of pampering experiences from paraffin pedicures to hot stone massages, exfoliating facials and - I believe - they even cover cellulite treatments. I have been here many times and I think I can say that I've enjoyed my facials the most. The spa experience is pretty typical. If you're getting a massage, you get there early for a steam shower, then change into a robe and retire to the "relaxation room" where calming 'nature' sounds are playing and water and apples are available. The couches are super soft and it really is pretty relaxing - so that actually was one of the highlights of my visit. I don't really have anything negative to say about the massage or facial. My pedicure was good - though it was a little strange because instead of the char/foot bath that's used at most spas, there was like a separate steel transportable foot bath used. It just seemed cumbersome and like it added an extra mess. My mom and I went for pedicures and she actually got CUT and was BLEEDING at hers... so I guess that was pretty bad, though nothing that like has ever happened to me. I do suggest getting the parrafin pedicure though because you put your foot in a big slipper filled with hot wax and it just feels awesome to wiggle your toes in there. Also, I didn't like my hair cut/style so don't go for that... and their manicures are way too expensive to be worth it. All and all, a great gift for a Staten Islander or a good treat for yourself. read more

Thought I'd try something new and found this place on Yelp! I was greeted promptly and offered a complimentary beverage and hot towel while I waited. I booked a facial, and the host that answered said it would be $100. After talking to the Facialist it was more like $135-$200 depending on the specifics of the service. My Facialist was Barbara and I must say it was the best most attentive facial I have ever had. The amount of detail that went into this great experience was worth every penny. I received a gift certificate and decided to use it 1 month before it expired. Immediately upon entering the establishment I was greeted by a friendly young lady who offered me a complimentary drink and warm hand towel to freshen up with. After relaxing and taking in the sites I was escorted downstairs to where the massages take place. It appeared clean, cozy and intimate. I used the steamer which is also the shower and received a 50 minute hot stone massage . my masseuse was friendly , professional and overall good offering pointers and suggestions afterwards Overall, the staff were friendly, downstairs decor-ok, and pricing steep in comparison to other places I've been to for the same services. This massage should be at least 60 minutes for its price. However, I was given a $7.47 gift card as a balance since they were having a sale on the day I went. It's a good spot to go to if you live on the island and need a quick massage but be sure to pay the hefty price. read more

Disappointing again. I made an appointment on Friday for a Sunday massage. I pulled a muscle in my back and wanted a good massage to work it out. I wasn't told when I made my appt to come in earlier for a steam shower. I received a phone call day of appt asking if I was coming in for the steam shower and I responded that I didn't know because nobody told me that it was opened back up (closed during covid). The girl told me oh well come In As soon as I could. I got there 10 minutes before my appt and got to use the steam shower. It was ok. I went in the waiting room. The woman doing my massage was over 15 minutes late. She took me into a terrible room. It was not the nice cozy massage rooms. Bright lights. Tile floor was dirty - dirt stuck to my feet. I specifically showed the masseuse where I was having problems and not once during the massage did she pay attention to the area. I mentioned it again and it was never addressed. The whole massage felt rushed. The massage was so disappointing. When I went upstairs to check out I told the girl at the desk how disappointed I was and she said well next time you can just use someone else. But I do hope that her other customers and everyone at that salon are as lucky as I am in not testing positive for COVID 19.
