I went to Sharp Rees-Stealy Urgent Care in Santee after cutting the corner of my finger off and bleeding throughout the entire day. I was in severe pain and repeatedly expressed that to Dr. Natasha Boydstun and Nurse Brenda. My pain was dismissed from the beginning. I was told to "just take Tylenol and ibuprofen" and that was the extent of their pain management plan. After receiving a tetanus shot (my first since 1998), I was told I would be sent home with basic bandaging supplies and Surgifoam for aftercare. They never gave it to me. Let me be clear: when someone is in severe pain and likely in shock, it is not their responsibility to remind medical staff to provide the supplies they themselves said they would give. That is basic follow-through and basic care. When my pain worsened, I called multiple times asking for help. Instead of addressing it, I was told I would need to go to the ER to be reevaluated for the same pain I had reported from the start. There was no empathy, no accountability, and no urgency. I have never felt so dismissed by a medical team in my life. I would NEVER recommend this facility to anyone seeking basic competent and compassionate care. Ironically, my pharmacist showed more compassion and concern than the medical team who treated me. She took the time to listen and speak to me kindly, something I never received at this urgent care. And honestly, after this experience, it's no surprise the ratings for this location are so low. I would NOT recommend being seen by either of those two medical so-called professionals to anyone in the community seeking urgent care. read more

This review is specific to the pharmacy staff from today January 12 2026 (Clerk AV Angeline). I went in with my two infant kids to grab some snacks around 1240ish while we were waiting for urgent care. We approached the cashier and stood on the right side of the sign. Minutes later another customer stood next to the left hand of the sign near the middle aisle. The employee Angeline was not the friendliest and said the line starts where the other customer was standing and made a hand gesture for her to go to the register. Both myself and the other customer looked at each other in confusion because the sign doesn't state which side you need to stand next to. The other customer brushed it off and asked me to go ahead. The clerk had seen me waiting for a while and there was no reason for her reaction specially when the sign doesn't call out the side you need to stand on not is it clear where the line should start. This response put a dent on my overall experience at this facility. The doctors and nurses were great though so I'm increasing the rating for care they provided to my children. read more

If I could give this place zero stars, I would! I went in for my first OB appointment, as it was the first time I was pregnant. I was nervous and excited all at once. I got Maila Marinas as an NP. I wish I would've had someone else because she has the WORST bedside manners. She was rushing the whole appointment and from the get go said she thought I was having a miscarriage (mind you with no real evidence) After I requested for and Hcg and progesterone lab work since I have hormonal issues she proceeded to say "I don't do that. I get everything I need to from the ultrasound" That wasn't acceptable for me and I ended up outsourcing and getting labs done elsewhere. My hcg levels were great, but my progesterone levels were low. I ended up seeing Dr. Lafferty 2 weeks later where we saw growth. Unfortunately, a subchorionic hemorrhage was NOT addressed in that visit and I ended up miscarrying my baby about a month later. Not once was I ever treated with progesterone or any type or interventions were done to at least try to save the pregnancy. Once passing the baby I only had one follow up ultrasound were only "one small blood clot" was found and I was told I would pass it by myself. No hcg, no other ultrasound for a follow up was done. Thankfully I listened to my body and went back to the hospital weeks later, as I was still having pain and I ended up having retained products of conception and my hcg was still 134! If I hadn't gone in I could've gone septic and died! I ended up needing an emergency d&c because of this great negligence from this site! The best advise I can give to any new mom is to NOT be seen here and if they put your NP as Maila Marinas for your first appointment then CHANGE who the NP is. I would NEVER recommend her. read more

I rarely write very negative reviews, but my visit to the women's clinic here was truly distressing. I came in for a routine well-woman exam and screening -- something that already takes months to schedule with a physician, so I was placed with a nurse instead. Unfortunately, the nurse I saw seemed very inexperienced and rushed, speaking super fast while looking at her iPad and without taking time to listen or show empathy. Before the exam, I clearly explained a medical condition that makes pelvic exams extremely painful -- it's also documented in my chart. Despite this, she recommended a "visual exam," making it sound less invasive than the Pap I came for. What followed was one of the most painful medical experiences I've ever had. She dilated my cervix -- something I've never had done before, as I've never had children or required such a procedure, ever. The pain was so unbearable; I had to make her stop. She was unable to complete the exam or collect a sample. At best, this was a case of poor communication and lack of experience; at worst, it showed a troubling disregard for patient comfort and informed consent. Since that appointment, I've also had ongoing trouble getting my prescriptions refilled or renewed, which has only added to the frustration. This experience has completely shaken my trust in this clinic, and I will not be returning. I hope management takes this seriously and ensures patients are treated with the care, sensitivity, and professionalism they deserve. read more

This review is with regards to the optical shop at this location. What a big mistake and regret on my part getting my glasses at this optical shop. The service from this department is poor and the fact that you have to make an appointment for a glasses adjustment is such an inconvenience. I expected more from Sharp when it comes to customer service, particularly from Debbie, she's so dry with no personality. Without patrons like myself, they won't have jobs, not sure why their service is so mediocre. It's a front-facing customer service position. Will I go back or recommend this optical shop? My doctor at Sharp Rees-Stealy in La Mesa (Grossmont) retired so I needed to find a new doctor. I live in Santee so I figured I'd see if there was any available at Sharp in Santee. Dr. David Huber was recommended to me so I gave them a call. Dr. Huber was cool with adding me as a patient. I had my first appointment on a Wednesday afternoon. Simple check-up. Blood pressure, pulse, listen to heart and lungs. It was really mostly a meet-and-greet. i love that the Santee Sharp offers afternoon appointments. I had a 3:20 appointment. I only have to leave work a little early and when I get to the Cuayamaca location, I'm already half way home. The self check-in kiosks make checking in a breeze and saves time. The staff are always friendly, polite and helpful. Scheduling my next appointment upon leaving was quick and easy. read more

Was sent here to see an urologist but for some reason was sent a nurse practitioner which I was so confused but I was like whatever. She came in with a fake smile. No hello or anything. The way she attended me and her body language and tone told me she didn't take in consideration my problem. I had some x-ray images for her to see from a specialist for her to see and she dismissed it. When I explained to her my problem, she was dismissing it. She asked me a common question and after I told her no she proceeded to ask me another similar question which I was so dumbfounded that she asked me that after I told her no to the first thing she asked. She also, instead, handed me some exercises to do and wanted to send me to physical therapy. I am no doctor or nurse but I know for a fact that my problem is not gonna be solved by going to physical therapy. I have a learning disability and it takes me a while to process information and my mum was with me since she is the one who help's me understand what I am going to do and she never once bothered to talk to my mum to explain things to her as well. But then again this is the Santee location so I am not surprised. If I have to traveler further than the Santee location, I will. I did not go and pay a $20 co-pay only to get attended unwell. Had my first OB appointment with Dr Lafferty in the Santee office 2/6 and he told me to go downstairs to get testing done. I walked up to the front desk and was immediately met with hostility by Sheila G. because I did not have an appointment. She told me it would be about an hour and a half wait. Completely understood. I walked out to my car to grab a few belongings to have with me during my appointment (god forbid a pregnant woman needs water). Then went to the restroom and stepped outside the glass exit door to talk phone call. Never left the area...While I was on the phone they had called my name. They left me a voicemail 11:38am I called them back at 11:41am and they said to check in at the front desk. When I walked up they said they had checked me out because they had called my name several times... Sheila G. was sitting at the front desk when I was speaking to the other receptionist next to her and she cut into our conversation to tell me it was my fault they could not find me. I asked if why I was being punished for having to walk outside and tried to explain they had just told me to check in 3 minutes before that. She stared at me blankly with nothing else to say. I was absolutely terrified at the thought of having to get another MRI. My last scan caused me extreme anxiety (I have an anxiety disorder) and I swore I'd never have one again. But, here I am, a couple years later and I needed my back scanned. I asked if there were any options and that's when I learned the Sharp in Santee has a wide bore MRI machine. Wide bore isn't as claustrophobic as a regular MRI. Still, I will be slipped into an enclosed space which might trigger my fight or flight. To start the process I took the sedative my doctor gave me. The MRI team supplied me with ear plugs and a blindfold. Once I was laying on the table they supported my body with several pillows. I was beginning to feel very cozy. Before they rolled me in they gave me headphones so I could listen to the operators and, best of all, my favorite band. Once inside a cool breeze blew over me so there was no stuffy feelings. I had practiced meditation, deep breathing, etc. to survive the scan but I didn't need it. I just sang along to my music. I'd been stressing for weeks about getting this MRI done. And now, if I ever have to get another one, I could do it without fear. Thank you so much! read more

I was referred by my PCP. I couldn't get an appointment, called several times. Grace was supposed to be my appointment scheduler except it was impossible to get ahold even after leaving messages. I was finally able to get through on a 3 way call made by my PCP office. The earliest appointment had me wait over a month to be seen. I've seen Dr Gallegos and he had MA Michele in my appt which I did not appreciate. And there are two lines written in my chart by Michele that are false as those items were not discussed. I was given a prescription because my case is "extensive" and told I have no work to do. The dermatology office would submit prior authorizations and I'd collect my medication after insurance approval. Except it's been 3 weeks and they still have not submitted my prior authorization. I was told today that a Jacquelyn is in charge of prior authorizations. She has not done mine. I will be in touch with the supervisor Vanessa. But again, I was only able to get through to their office front desk on a 3 way call made by Pfizer. Dr Gallegos wanted me to go back in 4 weeks for more labs (would be my 3rd labs done in 2-3 months), and depending on where I go, that all costs money. I will absolutely NOT be going in for additional labs when it's been a MONTH and I haven't received the medication I was prescribed for my very extensive case! These people don't actually care or they would do their jobs! Extremely disappointed. I'm will not be continuing with Sharp coverage. read more

The optical shop - what an absolute joke. You have to make an appt for EVERYTHING! No I'm not joking, all I wanted to do was look for frames and potentially have my glasses made. I already had my prescription, I couldn't even get in the door just to browse the frames. Soooo I had an embarrassing reason to come and visit and from beginning to end, from the receptionist checking me in to the nurses Kim, I forgot the second one (sorry) and Megan and doctor Ulysses Carino, I truly felt the Sharp experience here. They took care of me in a nice friendly tone, were genuinely empathetic and despite my embarrassment for coming in, they ALL made me feel at ease. I even managed to laugh even though I was in a lot of pain. But luckily I got out of here quick, less than 1.5 hours on a Saturday, was provided with EXCELLENT care, and left with my dignity still in tact. read more

New building, some of the same staff from the old La Mesa building. I don't go east of my neighborhood very often for a reason and I don't really care much for this area, too many weirdos for my taste, but if it's only once or twice a year for an appointment I guess it's okay. At least it's located right near the freeway exit, easy to get in and out without a hassle. The employees are friendly and mostly efficient. We had one that didn't know how to use the computer system in optical, but I guessed that the employee was new, so you have to be patient. Otherwise it's not bad. I always use self check-in at Sharp, it seems quicker than waiting for an employee, I noticed both times I came that I was the only one utilizing it, guess the people in this area prefer waiting in line for some reason. FYI they still do not accept cash at SRS for anything, so make sure you have a debit or credit card with you.. read more

Scheduled an appointment with a ophthalmologist back in December 2022. Thought it would be convenient to go to a Sharp Reese-Steeley clinic near my house. I booked the appointment in February with a high deductible Blue Shield private PPO health plan. Everything was good. Then, I got a letter from Blue Shield saying my health plan was no longer available and I needed to pick another one for 2023. So I did. I got the private Bronze 60 PPO plan, similar to the plan I had before. When I tried to update my insurance for my appointment with the ophthalmologist, I was told my new plan was no good. I was really surprised. I've never been turned down by any provider that accepts private PPO plans. On the Sharp Reese-Steeley website for accepted insurance, it says Blue Shield PPO plans are accepted, and doesn't differentiate between specific plans. I called Blue Shield and they confirmed the Bronze 60 PPO plan is not accepted by Sharp Reese-Steeley. According to the doctor/provider search tool on Blue Shield's website, the other major providers such as Scripps and UCSD accept the Bronze 60 plan. Also, strangely, doctors that practice under Sharpcare accept the Bronze 60 plan. How does that work BTW? I get a Sharpcare doctor who might refer me to other Sharp facilities that don't accept my insurance? How strange that would be. Needless to say, I'll stick with the other providers and I'll never set foot in a Sharp facility or doctor's office again if I don't have to. read more

I was a patient at the old building in La Mesa. I had not made an appointment to see my doctor (PCP) since before Covid. I never saw any signs or notices , nor received an email, explaining that they would be moving. When I used the follow my health app to schedule an appointment - it generated an appointment with a doctor i didn't know. I looked up online and noted that my PCP was at a new location. Anyway, i waited 8 weeks to get an appointment to see my existing doctor at this new location. When i showed up, i did not have a card from my company's new insurance carrier (it was early February). So i contacted my company HR and offered to pay out of pocket until i could get my new insurance plan ID. Never mind that i had been a patient there for 7 years or more. They refused and then rescheduled me (two months out again). Then, two weeks later when i tried to move my appointment up due to secondary effects of a workplace accident, they said that i should go through workers comp and then accidentally Cancelled my originally scheduled appointment! No apology when i pointed out what had happened. No offer to fit me in earlier. WTF!? What do you have to do to get in and see a doctor at this facility. read more

Being a 5 generation family from San Diego we have lived in a climate that sometimes is not kind to our skin, and having to deal with the problems that arise from living in a beautiful coast city is not what was on the agenda, but Dr Gallegos has made it a less difficult road to travel. Sad to say I had to make my first urgent care trip with my toddler. We came on a Wednesday evening around 6 after he cut his head open falling. When we got there we went through the standard COVID questions and since they weren't applicable to us we went in and checked in. The check in was quick and then we sat and waited to be seen. Our wait was pretty quick for an urgent care, about 30 minutes and there were 4 people ahead of us. Once we got in the exam room things also moved fairly quickly. The dr came in and checked him out and cleaned his head up to make a decision that we can get away without needing stitches and we came up with a care plan. The dr and nurse were awesome and patient. My son screamed almost the entire time they were examining him and we had to hold him down as well. The dr never showed signs of frustration and was empathetic. We were in and out in about 1 hour. There is ample parking available. You can check the sharp website ahead of time to see what the wait time is and there is also a screen in the waiting room that is updated every 5 minutes and tells you the wait time. It said much longer that it truly was. The facility is brand new and was done nicely. The exam room was very spacious. I had my double stroller with me and there was still ample room for everyone to be in the room. The waiting area had a good amount of space as well and we were able to be on our own with the double stroller and not be in anyone's way. With 2 wild boys, sadly I'm very confident I'll be back here. I had a great experience (except for having to be there at all) so I feel comfortable knowing this is our urgent care. read more

What I great place nice a spacious. I love the big Front while window they have in the front of the hospital. Nice well sectioned departments to find what you're looking for. The people are nice and friendly and willing to help. The parking lot is big you're definitely going to find a spot there's a lot of spots open around 3 to 7 from what I've seen. The rooms Nice and big and up-to-date when you go see your doctor. When I went to go get x-rays the employee was very quick kind, and and told me, (that he is sorry for rushing me, just doing my job to the best of my ability) and I told him that you are not rushing me, your just doing your job. read more

Beautiful facility, but on when you are on Medicare, you still need in-peron visits to your primary MD in order to get referrals to specialists. All I wanted to do was make an appointment with a gastroenterologist to establish care and seek another opinion of a current GI problem. I hoped to have a gastroenterologist closer to home. It seemed simple enough. Instead I was told by the specialist's office that I needed a referral from my primary care MD. I messaged my primary care MD to request a referral and stated the reasons why. Instead, I received an message to first make an in-person appointment with my primary care MD. (Are they kidding?) I called my primary care MD's office and was told that it is standard practice at SHARP to force patients to have visits with their primary care doctors before a referral is granted. I explained that I have MD-inflicted disabilities that severely restrict when I can do things, and that if I have to make a primary-care-MD appointment every single time I need a referral to a specialist, I will have to stop seeing SHARP/Sharp Rees-Stealy specialists and take my care elsewhere. Life has to be about more than constantly going to doctors when it isn't even needed as some rote matter of protocol. Maybe it is some presumed way for them to save money---if the primary care MD can solve the problem, then no need for a specialist. I don't know. Otherwise, I have been happy with my primary care MD. (Scripps is NOT like this, and I wish SHARP/Sharp Rees-Stealy would take Scripps' lead on this matter of protocol.) read more

I really do enjoy sharing positive experiences I have with individuals and entities I interact with. In the past I had Sharp Rees Stealy as my PCP and HMO health care provider. I wrote numerous "5 Star" ratings for providers, departments and individuals employed there. Unfortunately, I regret ever having any interaction with Sharp Rees Stealy Urgent Care in Santee recently. The entire experience was a total nightmare, from the receptionist staff, the nursing staff even the doctor did not seem to have any concern with respect to the quality of care that was being given. Improper instructions, improper use and application of modalities, rude and condescending comments to patient and total lack of compassion while rendering sub standard medical care seems to be the standard at present from my personal experience! There are plenty of health care facilities available in San Diego County. SRS, please rest assured, in the future I will avail myself to these other services and pass SRS up! Go Bianca you rock! Here's why: My oh my we all need to get our immunizations for flu and covid. Recently I was visiting the Sharp Rees-Stealy Santee site for healthcare needs, and I saw a sign outside the building saying covid-19 shots were being given at a clinic on the first floor and around back in the same building. The sign said "by appointment only." Turns out it was the first day the covid-19 shots were available. When I went inside the facility to my destination appointment department on the 3rd floor, I mentioned that sign and its requirement of an appointment to the very nice person who was checking me in ~ Bianca. I also said it would be great to get the shot that day, but I didn't have an appointment for it. Bianca is the super kind Sharp rep who was helping me. After she checked me in, she got up, walked downstairs and around to the back of the building, to see if I could get in for that shot even without an appointment. Then she hiked all the way back up the stairs to the 3rd floor, and happily told me she had checked with the immunization team, and I could go to the shot clinic after my visit upstairs. Wow! Sure enough, after my visit I drove around to the back, went into the clinic, and quickly received the new covid-19 shot! This kind of excellent initiative by Bianca is so commendable and I am very grateful to her for it. She went above and beyond, or ~ as was the case ~ below and beyond and then back up and beyond! Thank you Bianca, I feel extra cared for by your super help! Thank you to the shot clinic team too. But today I say: Go Bianca you rock! The SRS Cuyamaca crew are FABULOUS! Julia PT has incredible intuitive healing gifts that are helping me regain the ability to walk. Without falls! We'll get there. Her focus is on aligning and strengthening a complex combination of important body mechanics so I don't suffer new injuries. She is patient and brilliant all the time :) Nancy PT helps me on days when Julia is out of town. Her astute read on what a body is doing creates an intelligent approach to healing. She has helped dial in and build on what Julia is teaching me :) Javier is a PT Tech whose jolly personality makes everyone feel a little better on rough days.
