Nice facility. Nice people. Used the facility for overnight boarding on just one occasion and everything was fine. Use it repeatedly for grooming and they do a good job with the grooming. Will use it again. So where's the fifth star? There is a problem with attention to detail. They promised to call when my best friend was ready to be picked up. The last two times, they didn't. Their practice is to give out a kerchief after grooming. The last two times, they couldn't provide one. These are good people doing a good job who need a renewed focus on detail. read more

We have used Affectionate Pet Care boarding for the past two years and couldn't be happier. We searched long and hard for a cageless boarding facility that made us feel comfortable during work trips and vacations, and this was the place. They always recognized our dog Jazz by name when she arrived and Jazz was always excited to be there. They provide you with a report card for all of the nights your dog is there and Jazz always came home tired and happy. The staff is the best! Even though we live in D.C., we will never hesitate to make the drive over to APC to board our pup. Highly recommended! read more

We used Affectionate Pet Care for several years, for more than one of our dogs. We used to be very happy with their services, even despite habitual overcharging caused by poor bookkeeping. However, we have since changed dog daycares, because we were consistently getting calls every time our dog stayed at APC regarding injuries. Thankfully for us and our dog, the injuries were not extremely serious; however, it's certainly not unreasonable to expect as a dog owner paying a significant amount of money that your pet will be returned to you exactly as you dropped them off- in good health! While we believe the majority of APC staff do genuinely care about animals and don't wish them harm, the business as a whole is not doing its job. Do yourself and your dog a favor and choose somewhere else! read more

I cannot say enough good things about APC. I have been bringing my puppy, Bella, since she was about 4 months old and she loves going. We recently boarded her and got a great report card about how much fun she had. Sadly, as Bella has gotten older, she has started to not get along with our other dog, so we have had to make the difficult decision to rehome her. When I was dropping off Bella for daycare, Roy (one of the managers) overheard me mentioning this to the person at the front desk and offered to take me into the office to talk about it. He was beyond kind and comforting - more than words could express - and made it clear that he (and the rest of APC) was more than willing to help out in any way they could. We have found a new home for Bella and are waiting on some details to be sorted with her new family, and to help keep the stress level down at home with our other dog, needed to board her for a few days last minute. When I called to arrange this, I spoke with Carrie (another manager) on the phone. Once again, I was blown away with how genuine and caring she was to our situation at home and said Bella could absolutely stay. Carrie also offered her assistance in any capacity she could. Having to rehome your dog is one of the hardest decisions to make and knowing that there are others who are caring, sensitive, and willing to help in whatever way they can helps tremendously. I know Bella's new family is planning on keeping her going to APC and I couldn't be happier! read more

First off, if you've been searching for a doggy daycare/boarding place, look no further -- APC is the place to choose! We've been going to APC since Battle was 5 months old (he is now 3 yrs). I cannot tell you enough how much we rave and recommend APC to anyone we meet with dogs. APC has grown to be a huge part of our lives. Being a dual-military family can get a bit hectic especially when we have no family members who live near us. APC has always been able to accommodate mine and my husband's crazy schedules and the best part is, Battle LOVES them! He is always so tired after a full day of daycare and we are always at ease when he's there because we know he's in good hands. He really enjoys the summer time when the kiddie pools are out too. I highly recommend this spot especially if you are trying to socialize your pup more. They are safe and reliable in every service they offer. I've had my Black Lab Tango here every workday since June, when I moved out of DC and into Fairfax in preparation for my retirement from the Feds. Tango loves it. He comes home so exhausted from playing that he jumps on the couch and snores like a freight train. The staff is extremely dependable and courteous. The fact that it is a cage-free environment and they have beds for the puppies is awesome. They segregate the big guys from the little ones, so if there's going to be rough play, it is among equals. And in any case, there's always supervision at all times. It ain't cheap but the boy is taken care of and happy. That's what's important to me. read more

My husband and I (and our Labradoodle Boggs) have used APC for training, grooming, and daycare. I have had some great experiences and also some very unsatisfactory experiences. As far as training goes, we couldn't be happier. We started Boggs in personal obedience training right around 9 weeks when we got him. We decided to do personal training with Sara since Boggs wasn't fully vaccinated yet, and we didn't want to risk having him around other dogs who might get him sick. Sara worked wonders with Boggs and she taught my husband and I so much in terms of simple obedience training. Boggs has been able to sit, stay, lay down, and walk successfully on leash since the third session with Sara. Boggs loves seeing her and she is very easy to work with. I could go on and on about how fabulous she is! We will be starting Boggs in puppy classes soon and then agility training for fun :) Now, Boggs had his first grooming appointment last week on July 27th at 1pm. I made the appointment back in June and specifically requested the head groomer, Stephanie. My husband and I arrived 5 minutes early, and when we went to check in, they told us that "Stephanie usually doesn't show up until 1:30 or so." I was very confused, because the appointment was made for 1pm with Stephanie. So why did they let us make an appointment for that time if Stephanie didn't work at that time? The lady at the front desk did not seem apologetic or embarrassed. They told us that they didn't want to waste our time and that we should "go somewhere to eat or hangout" without any indication of how long we would be waiting. We waited in the car with our puppy for over 20 minutes before I decided to go back in and get more information. The lady at the front desk told us that Stephanie wasn't quite sure when she would be in and that there was a lot of traffic. Long story short, Stephanie finally pulled up at 2pm (one hour AFTER our appointment time). When we brought Boggs in, she didn't even so much as apologize until I brought up the fact that we had been waiting for over an hour. Additionally, we assumed that we would drop Boggs off for an hour or so while he got groomed, and then pick him right up. Stephanie told us that we would drop him off and pick him up a few hours later. I wish we had known this ahead of time. The only reason we will go back again is because his haircut looked amazing, and it was worth all the trouble. But barely. Boggs had his first day of Doggy Daycare yesterday, July 30th. My husband dropped him off around 9am and we picked him up at 5pm. When we picked Boggs up, we weren't given a report card or any information about his first day. After we got home, I realized that we hadn't received a report card and I emailed them. I got a response this morning saying that the staff member forgot to give us the report card and they asked if there was anything we wanted to know about how Boggs did. After exchanging a few emails, I was told that Boggs did not eat any lunch, even though they offered it to him. In my opinion, this is very important information to know and they should have told me when I picked my dog up. He did not eat from 8am until his dinner at 6:30pm, because I was under the impression that all went well and that he ate his lunch. He was exhausted when he got home, and slept for 3 hours straight. I was a bit concerned, but he seemed happy...just very tired. I wish that APC had some cameras so that we could check in on him during the day to see how he is interacting with other dogs. We are willing to give APC another chance in regards to grooming and daycare, but I was very disappointed with how our first experiences with them went. read more

I have used APC for daycare and overnight boarding on an irregular basis for a year, and they are great! I can tell that my dog loves coming here, and when I pick him up, he is tired and happy. APC offers cage-free boarding and you can see that the spaces for the dogs are comfortable and clean. My dog loves the opportunity to play with the other dogs and staff. What I really like is that APC takes your dog outside regularly so that they can get fresh air as well as relieve themselves. It helps my dog remember his house-training. When you pick up your dog, they give you a "report card" that tells you if your dog ate all of his food, which dogs he played with, etc. Who knows if it's accurate, but it's comforting to know that somebody is keeping track of your pet. When you drop off your dog, they also always ask you the best contact number to reach you (or somebody else) and they did once call to ask about my dog's eyes. It really does seem like they are attentive. APC also offers grooming and training classes. I have used the training classes (with Sarah) and have found them to be super helpful! My dog is better behaved, and he loves the interaction with me, other owners, and other dogs. They offer various forms of classes - group and individual - at all sorts of different skill levels. I have only taken the basic obedience courses, but they also offer classes in things like agility. This really is a great place, but If I had to list things that APC improve, it would be nice if they had a webcam in the various dog areas. Other cage-free places do offer the ability to check on the dogs, just in case you are wondering what they are up to. I will also caution that APC has limited overnight capacity. They sometimes book weeks in advance, particularly during the times that you are likely to be out of town (Thanksgiving, Christmas / New Year's, spring break, and most weekends during the summer), so it helps if you have a backup care option. These are pretty minor complaints, though. This really is a place that I trust to take great care of my dog. read more

I use APC periodically on weekend for doggie day care, and have boarded my dog overnight. Overall a good place, and I appreciate the flexibility when I had to phone in one time and say I would not be able to pick up my dog when expected. I also appreciate being able to schedule baths and nail trimming while my dog is there. I have a 9-month-old retriever who LOVES it there. She runs in and doesn't so much as look back, as she loves other dogs. The only thing is that it can be very hard to get them on the phone to confirm that they have spots open that day. I have also had emails that were never returned. Having a better way to reserve a spot for same day care, rather than my showing up with the dog and hoping there is a spot, would be much appreciated. Update: they no longer accept drop-ins, but require reservations for doggie day care. They accept my recurring weekly appointment up to 4 weeks at a time. read more

We have been using Affectionate pet care for over 10 years. I would give it a five star. I just wish they had cameras. When we are away on long trips. The camera would help. I bet they would have less phone calls to check up on the pups! Or am I the only one who does that? Lol! Ok. We have been using them for once a week day care and long trips away from the house. They are attentive and let us know how he is doing. When there was a health issue, they emailed me and let me know and kept me updated until we were all clear. The staff are very good with my boys. And although my Louis makes it harder to leave him with massive protesting. He enjoys himself once he is in there. ( the protests are about me not affectionate pet care! ) I did the agility class. Sara was very good. I just wish we had the class outdoors and not all dogs off leash at the same time. It made it very hard for Louis. He preferred the one on one time with the equipment. I have a two year old Great Dane with lots of energy. After looking at different doggy daycare places in my area, Affectionate Pet Care seemed the perfect fit. The dogs get to play all day - I thought that would be a great place. I was somewhat taken back when I asked to get a tour of the facility and the staff told me that they do not provide tours because of liability reasons. I offered to even sign a waiver, but was still declined. No webcams are available either to view the dog to dog interaction as well as the staff to dog interaction. During the initial interview Affectionate Pet Care emphasized that they check all the vet records for all their dogs. Funny thing is that I brought my dog there 4-5 times and they never asked for the records which concerns me a lot. How many dogs are at Affectionate Pet Care that are not vaccinated? I stopped taking my dog there just because I really don't want him to get sick from any other dogs. read more

Affectionate Pet Care more than lives up to their name. They go above and beyond in taking care of and watching your pets. It all starts with an evaluation to make sure your pup isn't aggressive towards other dogs. After your dog passes, you're free to book daycare or boarding. I take my American Staffordshire Terrier, Keyser, once a week for daycare to burn off some extra energy which he desperately needs. I know he loves it, and so do I. He is so happy to get dropped off and (almost) completely worn out when I pick him up. I have boarded Keyser a few times and as always, they go above and beyond to keep you updated on the status of your pet and if you request it, they will even send a picture or two. I'm not a huge fan of having my chihuahua, Gabby, walked by other people since she's a bit skiddish. BUT I was in a bind where I needed a dog walker for only 20 minutes once a week. Additionally, I needed to have her fed and the lights turned on. Oh. My. Gosh! The dog walkers I had were wonderful! Jennette and Sara, two wonderful ladies, took great care of Gabby! They were so nice and left notes letting me know how Gabby did and if she was scared. They also left evidence outside my door so I knew she did her business on the walk ;) I was SO grateful when I would get home. I felt 100% confident letting these people in my home. I've taken my dog to this place several times. No problem thus far. Matter of fact, my dog deals with separation anxiety but seems to like this place. I've read some of the negative reviews about the place being overcrowded... My suggestion (just like the public schools) is to have parents of the pets to volunteer their time to help out. BEWARE!! Overcrowding, NOT a positive reinforcement center as they claim to be, and untrained staff left alone with WAY too many dogs!! I was referred to this facility by 2 very satisfied clients, so I decided to give it a try, despite the long drive from my house. My first phone call, like many others have stated here, was never returned - which perhaps should have been a clue. During the required evaluation, my puppy was taken out in the backyard and he played well with other dogs, so we were able to make a reservation for boarding & day care. I left him here for 3 days/2 nights and called to check in on him each day. They told me he was playing well, eating all of his food and sleeping through the night. Naturally, I was delighted. When I came to pick him up, I asked to use the restroom, which is located back inside the facility and had to be unlocked by staff. Apparently, not all staff members were aware a client was back there. Through the wall, I overheard my dog being summoned for pick up, followed by TWO exclamations of swearing, anger & lots of other unpleasant noises (doors slamming, scuffling and dogs whining). The female staff member said "YOU STUPID LITTLE SHITS!!!" twice. I was HORRIFIED. When I went out front to get my 11 month old puppy, his face, front legs and chest were soaking wet - come to find out he had been SPRAYED in the FACE with a water bottle!! For a place with the word "Affection" in their name and claiming to be "positive reinforcement", I was naturally shocked, enraged & horrified. Long story short, I complained and was mostly blown off at first, but then I demanded to see the videos (that they told me they have, that are normally not made public) and I sat down with two managers. They were both very nice and promised to call the owner and re-examine their policies. I did speak with the owner who was very apologetic and embarrassed and hoped I would come back. She told me things would be changing and the employee would most likely be let go. I had to ask for my money back during a second phone call the next day, as it was not offered to me, even though I met with 2 managers and spoke with the owner at length. I will not go back or recommend, as I see the main issues here appear to be: - Lack of staff training, screening, etc - Serious overcrowding - the woman was alone with 25-35 dogs!! I was told they are no longer going to allow employees to take breaks during peak pick-up and drop-off times (that seems like a no-brainer to me) - there does not seem to be adequate sleeping quarters for all of the dogs...but I was not allowed to take a full tour of the facility, so that's just what I could see on camera, and through the window. - Punishment for doing nothing but being a dog!! (Running to the door when someone opens it!) I am seriously against any kind of punishment, especially when I was not asked ahead of time if it would be appropriate or allowable for my puppy to be punished. True positive reinforcement centers are not spraying dogs in the face with anything! I am happy to let you all know that I reported this negative behavior and overcrowding (now I know why the price was so much lower than other boarding places!) to Fairfax County Animal Control. I was told by the officer that they are already aware of the overcrowding/lack of adequate staffing. Unfortunately there are currently no laws governing the ratios of pets to caretakers. Another small thing, one of our belongings (a carton of chicken broth that needed refrigeration) was not returned to us upon departure. read more

I've been meaning to update this review ever since my dog was "kicked out" of day care by an employee essentially walking me out to my car asking if there was anything going on at home that would affect my dog. They then suggested I contact the new trainer. I elected not to take him back, but booked a training session. My dog responded well to the trainer but I didn't learn anything new. I also found out that my dog had a large, infected puncture wound in his back. (Note: my dog already had a puncture wound on his head from an incident at this day care with too many dogs trying to get through the door outside). After a costly vet bill since it has gone unnoticed under his thick fur, I returned to APC to pay for the training. The front desk associate told me I should have told them about the wound on his back since "he probably got it here" because they would have paid for it. Also that my dog had grown attached to some employees so was getting protective, but it was the staff that needed training. Long story short, my dog who had been at this day care since he was a puppy and was incredibly socialized from the start, is now very dog aggressive. I have other friends whose dogs were "kicked out" and suggested costly training. We've all come to the conclusion that this day care is now way overcrowded and has untrained staff. I cannot say enough how much I love Affectionate Pet Care and the amazing staff here! They did an amazing job in the screening process and were concerned with way more than just getting money- they wanted to make sure my dog would feel comfortable. After the initial observation, they suggested that he come back for a half day before giving the green light for him to enroll. Archie started going to day care just 1 day per week but he loves it so much and it's so convenient that he now comes 2-3 times per week and we are both very happy! It's also a huge bonus that I can get him groomed here also and they can do his grooming at the end of the day so he doesn't sweat off that clean dog smell because he's busy playing. I love the Pawtography and report cards! Last week I got a call from Claudia that Archie seemed to be favoring one leg but that it wasn't affecting his ability to move around too much and that they were all relaxing now but that she would call me back if she felt I should come get him. The fact that she noticed changes in my dog's behavior and physical ability really speaks volumes about their attention to my dog. Every morning we are greeted with a 'hi, Archie!' and this morning one of the staff asked if he was feeling better. Pick up and drop off were a nightmare at previous places we had gone but APC is so well staffed and organized that it's a well oiled machine and they are efficient and conscientious about how many dogs are in the lobby at at time I researched a lot of facilities in the area and decided to trust my baby with APC because of the staff (the great facility and large outdoor area was a huge reason too). I am so grateful to APC because I know Archie is having fun and being taken care of incredibly well! Amy and her team really are the best and I don't know what I would do without them! read more

I left my dog Bruno here for a weekend while my wife and I went on a trip to see my parents. So that was about 3 nights and 2 days. My dog was completely healthy when we got him, but he seemed different, like he had just had some horrible experience. He was happy to see me as usual but he was weirdly solemn. I suspect it's either because he was kept in a cage for that whole weekend or he just wasn't attended to enough. He needs a lot of love you see, being a Labrador and when he doesn't get it he gets apparently sad, and the thought of him being caged or unattended to for 3 days is just horrifying. I know it sounds like a lot of assumptions on my part but I read some of the reviews here and apparently I'm not the only one who thinks their attentiveness is top notch. read more

As a first time pet owner I certainly had a lot to learn about . I've used Affectionate Pet Care for dog walks three times a day for my puppy since the first week I brought Cleo home. We also did private training with them and learned so much more than I ever did taking a group class. The team is so knowledgeable and has helped me in more ways than I ever imagined. The tips for housebreaking, training, and toys were invaluable to me and Cleo. I love that I can always count on them to give my dog the proper exercise, training, and affection she needs every day while I'm stuck at work. I've been taking my girl to APC for about 18 months and I couldn't be happier because Seren couldn't be happier. She loves going here. When I tell her in the morning that it's time to go to day care she bounds down the steps and can't wait to get into the car. The people there are great with her and have helped her go from a shy girl who was nervous around people to an outgoing, affectionate, friendly dog who wants to meet and greet everyone we come across when we're walking. Pros: nice staff Clean facility Cons: incompetent and sloppy staff that overcharged and possibly doesn't give medication as directed I boarded my senior dog here for a week. A few things happened during that time that guarantees I'll never go back to this place. 1. I was charged $700 by the woman at the front desk. It wasn't until I pushed back that she caught her error. I was then charged $400. It annoyed me that I was almost over charged $300! Even more annoying that I had to catch the error. If I wouldn't have said anything I don't think the woman would have caught it. 2. My dog's medication said his name and then "maltese". The problem is my dog is not a maltese and looks nothing like one. Does this mean my dog wasn't getting his medication while he was there? 3. My dog had 1 rxx that needed to be refrigerated and another that didn't. When I picked him up the medication that didn't need to be refrigerated said "refrigerate" and the one that did said nothing. Once back at home my dog got sick (he was fine when I dropped him off) so I'm assuming he didn't receive some or all of his medications. He's an old dog and giving him his meds properly is key. Just one of these issues probably wouldn't have been a big deal but all three of them had me feeling like the staff is sloppy and poorly trained. read more

My 2 labs love this place, I don't know what I would do without Affectionate Pet Care. They have a huge fenced grass yard where the dogs can run and they have always two staff members supervising the group of dogs. After 12 days, 3 staffers, and a bunch of promises that I had a pet sitter and promises to call me back ASAP to set up pet sitting of which no one ever did, I'm beyond shocked at how ridiculously unreliable and disorganized these folks are. Reliability is absolutely paramount to any company you are allowing into your private home to take care of your furry critters. I leave in 2 days. Still nothing. Even though "Sara" accepted the job over a week ago and 2 staffers adamantly promised a call, I am so grateful that I was able to find another attentive, dependable, organized company to help me last minute. We have used this boarding facility several times and each time our dog is less excited to go. We left him there overnight for several days. Typically, when I pick him up he is excited to see me. This time, he immediately went to the door. I had to pick him up to get in the car. He could barely move and obviously depressed. We have been home for a over a week and he is now on medication because he picked up a virus. This is very disappointing - not sure what happened. I wish I had a camera on his collar to see how he was treated. read more

Let me tell you first I have researched and checked out numerous doggy day care centers until I found Affectionate Pet Care. I've taking my dog here for doggy day care and grooming. The staff here is very nice and definitely all dog lovers. The facility was full of dogs and they learn every dog's name which I find to be so wonderful and personal. They have an indoor room that you can see into for small-medium size dogs. There's always someone in there watching the dogs. It gets pretty crowded in there but there's a futon that the dogs can lay on. A lot of dogs here come on a regular basis so they become friends. The staff writes up 'report cards' and tells you how your dog does throughout the day and who he or she plays with, etc. What I love about this place is they have a fence-in area outside where they let the dogs play and do their business. My dog is trained to never go 'potty' inside and having the option for her to go outside throughout the day is wonderful (unlike many other doggy day care facilities where the dogs strictly stay indoors). I always take my dog here for grooming. They do a wonderful job and do what I ask. Except I think my dog came home with an irritated underbelly where they had to shave her. It only bothered her for a day and I wasn't too concerned. Next time I will just mention to not shave so closely. I took my dog somewhere else once and her mood was totally different. Which I was worried some of the staff members were too rough with her. Not Affectionate Pet Care. My dog comes home happy and tired! Our doggie has now had an adequate amount of stays for me to write a review. I found this place by accident really as I was driving around shopping for myself and I happened to look to my left and saw "Affectionate Pet". I told myself to take note of it and find it on the internet and if it was a place that was a daycare/boarding spot it would be awesome to have our dog's boarding so close by. I did some research and found that they were a daycare/boarding place but I was still nervous because I wanted to see if they were accepting new pooches. I called and was told that our doggie can have a doggie interview! Yes!!! The following Saturday we had our doggie interview and they will take your dog to an area in the back (if the weather is nice) where you can watch through a doggie bone. It's not a small peep hole you can see your dog quite well as they bring out dogs one by one. During the interview the wind must've blown and my dog must've smelt my lovely perfume because she ran right towards me not even paying attention to the other doggies. Needless to say she passed the interview. She was enjoying herself so much I let her stay til they closed which was 7pm. We got back and our dog didn't want to play with us, she walked right to her bed and fell asleep. After every day care they give you a "doggie report card" so you can see or have a little bit of insight of their day. Our dog has also just completed her first 4 night daycare/boarding and she certainly enjoyed her time where she was a tired dog for the next 72 hours when we got home. It's all sleep and sunshine for our dog. The facilities themselves are clean and they try their best to not have the front area smell like 4585728284 dogs came through but you will encounter quite a doggie smell upon entering. Doesn't matter as you won't be in there for long anyways. The place is clean, has a large client base, and will make sure your furry friends are happy and healthy. read more

Love this place. I've been bringing my dog here for boarding for about 5 years now. They are very friendly and accommodating and always take great care of my dog. I know because she gladly goes with them when I drop her off and comes back happy and calm. I had been taking her elsewhere before and she would pull away from the place to leave and would come back to me after boarding very stressed out. My dog is also on lots of medications and they have always done a great job of making sure everything is administered correctly. Highly recommend. read more

After trying out several doggie-day-cares in the area, we are happy to be able to take our dog to Affectionate Pet Care. It isn't too close to where we live, but it is on the way to work, which is helpful. The pricing is pretty reasonable, especially if you buy a package. The staff has always been considerate and friendly, always excited to see my dog. You can definitely tell that they enjoy what they do! The facility is clean, very large and has an outdoor space for the dogs to play when the weather permits. My dog gets a "report card" for her behavior every day she is there. She is always exhausted when she comes home-- a sign of a good day of play! They do require a screening prior to daycare/boarding, which you have to make an appointment for. However, they provide a lot of transparency in the process, unlike others in the area (I don't know if this is the case for all screening, but we were able to watch through the window). We have also boarded our dog here, which has also been a good experience. They do cage-free boarding and dogs can sleep on pet beds, futons, etc. Again, my dog comes home from boarding and is EXHAUSTED! The only thing about boarding-- make sure you make your reservation at least a few months in advance, especially around holidays! These guys fill up fast! If I could give these guys more stars, I would. I highly recommend! read more

We use the boarding and petsitting services at APC. The cageless boarding is perfect for our dog, who is very energetic and likes being around other dogs and people. When we adopted him a year and a half ago, he had serious separation anxiety issues, and although he's gotten significantly better, he still doesn't like being left alone. I feel so much better leaving him at APC when we go away in comparison to a typical boarding facility, since I know that he'll have lots of company and will get lots of exercise. Although it's a little pricey, I definitely think it's worth it. Before your first visit, you'll have to come in and make sure your dog plays nice with others, which helps to make sure they don't accept any dogs with serious aggression issues. They also separate large and small dogs, which I think is a great feature, although our dog is on the border and would be fine in either group. We also use their in-home petsitting services for our cat. This is a perfect option for cats when you're on vacation, since they can stay in their comfortable surroundings at home. Your petsitter comes in and will spend some time with your pet and take care of its needs, and also take care of anything around the house that you request, like watering plants or getting the mail, and the cost for these visits is very reasonable. We've been using this service and have had the same petsitter for several years now, and have been extremely happy. Our pets are our babies, and because of the services at APC, I don't need to worry about them when we're out of town. Overall, I would highly recommend APC for both the cage-free boarding and for the in-home petsitting services. read more

Wonderful daycare & boarding facility! We've been bringing our very nervous pup there at least once a week for daycare and have boarded him on a few occasions over the past year. We have zero complaints! Before the first stay, you have to bring your pup in for a temperament evaluation,, and I'll admit, this being the first place we'd ever boarded our dog (he was just a tad over 1 at the time), and given he's a very anxious dog AND given we had just moved to the area from the west coast, I was a bit apprehensive to just hand him off to complete strangers, but they were wonderful with him and handled him perfectly! The evaluation was done in the outdoor area ... which, btw, props on actually having an outdoor play area! In the year we've lived in Northern Virginia (Falls Church and now Alexandria), we haven't come across many (any?) other daycare places that have one! There was a little window to look through, which I think probably benefited my little guy NOT being able to see me...the staff was able to get an idea of how he interacted with other dogs as well as the staff without me around. My pup did great and has a blast every time we've left him there since! He always comes out, tail wagging!! A big reason we chose this place was their cage free overnight boarding, because, again, our little dude is super nervous and hates being crated. They're boarding area is great - a big room few beds set up and an attendant in the room all night with them. As a comparison, after a few months of leaving our buddy there, they were booked a weekend we went out of town, so we had to leave him somewhere else. When we got him back from the other place, he smelled so bad and was completely hoarse. Of course the staff at the other place said nothing, so we can only speculate that he spent the entire weekend crying or barking, but nor before nor after has he ever lost his voice like that! Vs. Affectionate, where we've left him for an entire week and when we got him back, he was completely normal, didn't smell (too bad...I mean, a little stank is to be expected!) and was just as happy and healthy as when we left him! ps: I keep calling him little guy - he's an 80 pound German Shepherd mix The nail in the this-place-is-awesome coffin came a few weeks ago after moving from Falls Church to Alexandria. I had brought our doggy to a place closer to us in Alexandria and, I won't go into details, but the evaluation and pretty much everything else about this place was awful...we actually walked out on the evaluation...anyway, I digress. I was really upset and so was my dog, so still needing to board him for the day, I went to Affectionate and even though we showed up on the tail end of when they usually like to accept day care drop offs, they were still excited to take him! The attendant who came out to bring out dog back knew him by name and was genuinely happy to see him! Since the attendant seemed to be one who actually knew my dog, I asked if I could talk to him for a few minutes about what happened during the evaluation at the other place and if he could give me some frank feedback on how my dog is when he's with them. He was very genuine and freely admitted things we already knew about our dogs anxiety issues, but said overall there have never been any behavioral problems with him and the staff or any of the other dogs. Just the fact that he was willing to take some time out of his day and give me some actual feedback was so appreciated. While it's a bit of a drive from our current place in Alexandria, I can't image trusting anyone else with our guy!! read more

Awesome!!! We've worked with Laura G. ever since we rescued our dog 3 years ago. She started with walking him during the week and now boards him in her home whenever we are out of town. She goes above and beyond to make sure our dog AND my husband and I are comfortable with everything. She's the first to confirm dates/times and always leaves a detailed report. APC is great and my dog is always a tired pup after daycare! They also do a great job with full grooming. Highly Recommended!!! read more
