My mom recommended them for a cheaper crown as quoted by her Dr. To be paid in cash or card because it was not covered by my blue cross or medi-cal. I was told to make a appointment and they would look into it when I was there. I had a hard time finding it. When I got there I gave her my cards knowing they didn't take my insurance,but my mother was paying for everything. He said sorry but we don't take medi-cal. I said I know but my mother has negotiated a price per crown for two crowns. They say there is also exrays and a exam and we don't take medi-cal I said that's ok you take cash or card don't you. But the two ladies said the one with the blue hair. And the older one that got involved to double make sure I knew they didn't take medi-cal or cash or credit card regardless of what the Dr said to my mom they were just sending me out so I left. Then I called my mom from the car and she said I am calling them then by the time I got home I had a message from the blue haired girl ( no big deal just discribing my hair is green). She said come right back your mom explained the situation. Worst dental clinic I've been to. If I could give it ZERO stars I would. They literally treat you like a dollar sign and they are total SCAMMERS. They will push you to get treatments you don't even need just to get your money. My husband's and I's insurance covers a regular cleaning but because they suggested a deep cleaning then they wouldn't do the regular cleaning. I've never heard of a place denying a service because the patient/client didn't want to get extra work. We should have the right to refuse treatments, no one should be forced to get something done. Will NEVER recommend this place. They are also very unprofessional. My consult with the dentist was interrupted by everyone coming in and out of the room every minute of my appointment. Three of my family went for the cleaning/xray/checkup and they refused to do the cleaning if we didn't pay $100 more for my son and $600 more for my wife and daughter each. We said we just wanted the basic included cleaning, and they said that violated their policy so they refused to do the cleaning. So our $89 visit for three would have been $1,567 in total. They were able to get me in quickly when I was having a bit of an issue with the a bad tooth they had treated me for previously. It was a Friday and I was super happy since It was an urgent issue. The appointment went well. The Dr and the Assistant were great. They called in antibiotics - I turned down pain medication as I am not a fan and I Thought the antibiotics would kick in quickly. Bad idea. But I digress. So Friday night sucks but I'm thinking "it's ok. The antibiotics are gonna make it feel better tomorrow" Saturday morning the pain and swelling are increasing but still thinking... "it's ok. By tonight, the antibiotics are going to kick in and I'll feel better." By Saturday night I am literally on the verge of tears. I can't take the pain.... I call the emergency number they have provided me. I leave a message explaining the situation, and describing the swelling/pain that I am experiencing. I start to feel better just knowing they are going to call me back but the pain and swelling continue as I wait.... 1 hour, 2, hours, 3 hours. No call. But they do have this have a feature that when you call the main office and they can't answer they send a text saying .... sorry we missed your call. The office is closed. Text us and we will get back to you when we get back to the office.... So I respond to the text- hoping that someone might see it. NOPE I call again to make sure I dialed the correct emergency number. Yours it's the same number. I leave a second message pleading that someone call me back so I can get some relief. 4 hours, 5 hours, 6 hours... no call. I try and go to sleep ... waking about every 2 hours in excruciating pain. Still hoping the antibiotics will begin to help. No call. Sunday I finally give in and go to urgent care when they tell me to continue on the antibiotics and perscribe some very low grade pain medication (ultimately not effective at all because the infection has gotten so bad). My face is swollen and hot. There is a hard bump in my jaw.... it's all bad. I call the emergency phone number a 3rd time and leave a 3rd message. The hours keep ticking away. Still no call back. In shear frustration I send a second text to the number and express what horrible care I've received. Really only to help me feel as if I have some control over this horrible situation. I manage to make it to Monday morning after a horrible 24 hours alternating ultram every 4 hours. 800mg IBU every 6 and 1300 acetaminophen every 8.... oh and I even tried some Aleve. I literally thought I was going to go into liver failure or something.... Anyway morning finally comes and I look at my phone and this is what I see.... a text from the same number I'd texteg saying that the emergency phone was in TJ over the weekend. Sorry they missed my calls.... photos attached. Are you FLIPPING kidding me. TJ! Not even an apology or a "Oh we are so sorry that our error caused you to go without care... CRAZY! So in summary.... the dental issue I was having was NOT their fault. And I was grateful they were able to get me in so quickly.... I can't help but wonder if the reason they could get me an appointment so quickly is because their patient care is so bad nobody goes back.... The level of crap patient care or even a basic level of customer service is beyond horrific. It is IMO. Soooooo bad that it completely cancels all other interactions I have had there. It cancels out the competency of the Dr and the hygienist. Moral of my story 1. NEVER EVER EVER go back to Affinity dental in hillcrest. EVER! I'd pull my own tooth before setting foot in the office again. 2. Take the time to write an incredibly long review. So other can be fully educated and make a decision for themselves. This was my first time at this Dentist as a new patient. I want to start by saying that the Doctor, the front desk and the young lady who did my X-rays were ALL fantastic. Excellent patient care, understanding, professional and kind. Every one of them exceeded my expectations across the board. This Doctor took more time than most to really listen to me and talk me through everything. That was above and beyond what a lot of dentists do. And I recognized that. My issue was with the dental assistant, LaToya. From when she walked in, she was just pretty cold and to be honest, I just felt uncomfortable. When the Dr. came in and provided exam and relayed information to her to write down, she was clearly unsure, asking for clarification, repeating questions and just seemed... either really new or incompetent in general. I can get over that. But, after the Dr explained next steps and a diagnosis, he left the room and she proceeded to ask me if I wanted to move forward with the implant. I said yes. Mind you, I am being referred out to an oral surgeon, so the treatment is not being done at this office. She told me I needed to cover the fee today. Told me "just so you know, implants are really expensive and they start at like $6k." I told her that I was well aware of the cost, timeline and procedure itself. She spoke to me like I was a complete idiot and that I had an issue because I was asking for further details. I continued to ask her why I would be paying upfront for something that I don't even have an appointment for and why would I be paying her office for a treatment I'm receiving from another one. She responded to me and actually said "I don't think you're able to understand me." That was it. I was floored. I got up and walked out. I know enough about the dental field, process, insurance, dental treatment and essentially, basic intrapersonal communication to understand. To be spoken to like I was the one with a comprehension issue was beyond unprofessional, appropriate or productive in terms of furthering treatment. I was shocked that the assistant was even the one who was discussing something like this. From experience, industry standard is to have someone on staff, a Treatment Coordinator or Manager to step in when discussing treatment details and cost. Especially something costing anywhere from $6-$8k. I give alot of grace. I get it. I know the difficulty to deal with patients who are in pain, stressed about the cost and just uncomfortable in general... and someone who is qualified and competent in having these conversations would have been able to make it seamless, clear, kind and patient. As much as I give that grace and understanding, there are certain settings and situations when this is inexcusable. And this was one of them. I left in tears, frustrated and angry. This is exactly what you don't want a patient to experience after leaving the dentist. I encourage management to evaluate her competency and behavior in general, because this was not ok. Again, thank you to the rest of the staff and the Doctor for the positive experience I had with them. read more
