Received call from original call ctr rep the day before to confirm my 0900 appt time thinking everything was kosher. Got to the branch for my appt, check in, and find that my insurance info was missing. Anyway, stuff had to get done, receptionist said it would take approx. 40-45 min to get the insurance info, 0900 turned into 1000, 1000 turned into 1100, by that time I'm getting hungry and ready for lunch, but remembered that you're not suppose to eat or drink after the fluoride treatment. I get that this is my first time to this branch, paperwork is needed, insurance, yada, yada, yada...but as seamless as it "was" to set the appt, I was hoping for a smooth visit. First impressions? Facility, lobby and office are nice and clean. Bummer I couldn't get in at my appointed time. Hurry up fluoride treatment, I'm starving!

I see they their rating on Yelp is 1.5 star, looks like I am not the only one receiving their excellent service.

At my mother's last appointment with Oakwell, she was so disappointed in her implant falling out that she almost cried. Her dentist gave her a referral for an actual prothodonist. He knew he wasn't qualified to help her--but only after her spending thousands of dollars at Oakwell over the years. And today, after my mother no longer has any teeth, we got charged $50 for her canceling her last dental cleaning at Oakwell under the 48 hour grace period. My mother has been their patient for years and they won't waive the $50 fee EVEN THOUGH SHE DOESN'T HAVE ANY TEETH FOR THEM TO CLEAN. Should she show up so they can fraudulently charge her dental insurance? Ridiculous.

One, they don't use a different polish on veneers than on regular teeth (which my previous dentist did). Two, the tech who worked on my teeth was rough, especially on the gum line around my veneer. And three, while the office design was nice, the technology they used for the cleaning was a bit old-school (dated). I'm just used to a practice that uses newer forms of cleaning and polishing procedure. As I was private pay, the total was $250+, which is highway robbery for a simple cleaning. I go every few months, so my teeth are almost always never a problem. I was in and out in 30-40 minutes. The cost didn't come anywhere near equating to the experience. My father was military, I went to Cole, so of course, we were seen across the street! Fast forward to the summer. I am a college student with Tricare Young Adult Prime. Dr Westerberg extracted all four of my wisdom teeth and I opted for the sedative. The procedure went very smoothly. Here is the trouble, the office charged Tricare $1400. Of course right? Why not charge an insurance company the full of amount possible? I paid the out of pocket expense of $500. To my unfortunate knowledge, I lost my dental coverage because of my age. My balance was around 900. I had asked if there was anyway possible that I could get a discount for paying all cash for the remaining balance. The office manager only offered my 5%. 5%??!?! The average cost for a single tooth extraction is 150 per tooth. That's a 600 procedure. I was charged $350 per tooth. I explained to the office manager that I was a unemployed college student in my senior year , my father just had a heart attack, can not work, and just retired after serving 23 years in the army . . . basically that I am a broke college student with a copious amount of student loans. I told her that my family and I had been loyal customers and that I needed honest help because the money would come from my account for school books. The most Westerberg was willing to discount me was 10% . . . .and that was off the balance I already had, NOT the total amount charged to the INSURANCE COMPANY. It just really frustrates me that a dentist office would treat a loyal patient that way. A doctor has the option to not charge anything or offer work at a discount! Insurance companies have corrupted America and the hearts of practitioners and this a prime example. If you get the chance to read this, I hope the office staff knows that they not only lost a loyal customer, but also a family, and a copious amounts of potential clients. Trust me, I am in PR and I definitely know how the market operates. I had paid in full with care credit. They said I could finish the procedure at the alamo heights office with another Doctor. I did so. However, I keep getting a bill for $1700.00. My teeth are not that horrible and are nice to look at. I wrote on their sheet that I was overall pleased with my smile. Then after viewing that screen for a while, about four females came into the room and said I had heavy bone loss and their clinic couldn't even do a routine cleaning. They wanted to refer me to a bone specialist like the specialist could restore my bones! They also talked about dentures and I flat out told them, I would NOT be receiving dentures. Oh, and another thing. At the end of the visit, they give you a looooong list of things you can buy or procedures you can have done to your mouth. I looked at the final cost and it was about four thousand dollars. Yup! You read that right. I will never return.
