She offered great conversation, comforting add ons like a blanket and water, and a great cleaning. I asked her to look at a spot on the front of my teeth that has been causing me confidence issues and she buffed it right out. I can go back to sporting a full smile again! Had my bi-annual teeth cleaning with Lana. She's very thorough, straightforward and knows what areas may be sensitive so I appreciate her mindfulness. I appreciate her professionalism, have built a rapport with her and that she's not excessively chatty. She's given me tips over the years and I know I'm in good hands when I'm being attended by her. I get disappointed if she isn't available. I had X-rays today and those bite-wing things can be overwhelming in the mouth so I just focused because at one point I almost threw up for some reason when it was towards the back of my mouth but I held it together. Luckily it's only once a year. Everything was straightforward and afterwards, Dr. Ruiz examined my mouth, scraped a little and I asked her about getting a new, thinner Mouthguard that will act like a Retainer. At first she mentioned one product that was for my upper and lower teeth but I told her I didn't have braces on my lower teeth so she thought about it and decided to have me try something else. I ended up ordering an Essix Retainer that's thicker than a regular Invisalign Retainer which is more flimsy so it acts like a Night Guard. I was able to get an iTero mouth/teeth 3D scan at the beginning of my appointment so I was able to skip an appointment and just come for the fitting later this month. The 3D scan is a new and free procedure that tracks changes in your mouth/teeth for future reference. Dr. Ruiz was very nice in our brief visit. My regular dentist is currently on Maternity Leave. As always, I leave with extra sample toothpaste, toothbrush and floss. The office has a Keurig machine, chips tray and bottled water in a small fridge and an Air Purifier out in the waiting room. read more

I had not been to a dentist for a long while. So Sonterra dental is where my wife has gone for years. I made an appointment and had such a great experience. My cleaning was performed by Casey. She is the best! Very pleasant and kind. She did an amazing job. Also answered all my questions. I really enjoyed her positive energy kind and attentive nature. Dr. Woolwine is amazing as well! *Update: After 5 years of bi-annual checkups for my entire family, I still WHOLEHEARTEDLY recommend Sonterra Dental. We've had cavities (1) filled, teeth extracted, and two wisdom teeth removals along with 6 month cleanings since 2014. Dr. Tapangan is still amazing as a provider and person. Our dental hygienists, Lauren, Pam, Svitlana, and Sydney are always professional, thorough, and personable. Dr. Woolwine and Dr. Tapangan have the BEST bedside manner of any medical professionals I've been around. I trust them completely to care for my children because of how efficient, informative, and careful they are. This practice sets the standard of dental and medical care. My hygienist of 25 YEARS, Pam, takes good care of me with super cleaning every six months, and gives me GENTLE scolding when needed! I was thrilled with the results of my Invisalign treatment - extremely good dental tech even gave me her cell phone number in the beginning in case I had questions. Today I went in for a routine check up and cleaning but also as a new patient!! Before even arriving, the office sent an email that allowed me to do all my new patient paperwork online. It was easy and efficient. When I arrived for my appointment, they only asked my name and told me I'd be seen in a few minutes. No additional paperwork! Oh yeah snd they offered complimentary water, coffee, etc. in their waiting area. I was promptly seen at 9:00 a.m., my appointment time. X-rays we're taken and I was immediately seen by a hygienist, Lauren. Lauren took a few minutes to just talk, asked about me, my family, what I liked to do, etc. Very nice! She was very thorough with her examination and cleaning. Every step of the way she explained what she was doing and identified areas I need to focus on. After Lauren, I was seen by Dr. Tapangan who reviews x-Rays with me and talked about the health of my teeth. She had a great way with me and I'm guessing with all her patients. I think I've found a new dentist!! Before leaving, Ashley reviewed billing, insurance info, etc and helped set up a next appointment. Dr. Tapangyn and staff were incredible. Not a fan of going to the dentist-but after this experience, I may book inside the recommended 6 months (as opposed to three years.) Received a really cool 3D X-ray of my mouth (and sinus cavities as a bonus...deviated septum, who knew?!) and a thorough explanation of what is happening with my bones, enamel and tooth pulp; fascinating stuff people! Then Lauren my hygienist showed me the office, then sat & asked questions about me & my teeth. Ok now time to start cleaning. Was a good process. Then on to X-ray meet doctors asst nice as well. I hesitate to share how AWESOME Sonterra Dental is because I want them to always be available for us! Alas, they deserve five stars and more, so I must share. We've been there several times now - I for a cleaning, a crown and fillings, my husband for more extensive work, and my son for an extraction - and we all agree, this team is the best. Mary and Ashley at the front desk are caring and personable, and all the hygienists and assistants gentle and friendly. Dr. Woolwine is amazing at what he does - he's considerate and careful and extremely communicative. Also, the equipment they use is all state of the art. I didn't even know about the advances in dental care until I went to this office, but somehow, they've managed to turn an experience that used to be torture into something I actually don't mind at all now. This is really saying something because the dentists I visited in the 80s and 90s almost had me scarred for life with their crappy and sometimes brutal work. Sonterra Dental has completely cured me of that fear. I could go on about how great they are, but I've probably gushed enough already, so I'll just say this - if you're scared of the dentist or you just want someone who will really care about helping you with your dental health, this is the right office for you. read more

So I am over a year late on writing a review for this place. I do not ever write reviews but this place is worth it. I just want to say as far back as I can remember I have had dental problems. Dentist after dentist filling after filling. Once I moved here to San Antonio I found a dentist with great reviews. I went and was seen by her each time I went the price would change and they were never honest and only wanted to fix what they wanted to. Due to me not having much money and a lot of problems with my teeth I got scared off. Now about five years later here we are. I went to this place to get prices of a full set of dental implants because I didn't think my teeth were able to be saved. Doctor Woolwine came out into the waiting room and set down to talk to me. That right there was just amazing no doctor ever comes out to the waiting room and definitely not to sit down and have a one on one conversation. Now a little over a year in I still have my own teeth but they are looking a heck of a lot better. (Still need a lot more done and will have it all done here) From surgery to just cleanings this place is the best. Always so welcoming and never judging. The entire staff are just great people. After procedures Dr. Woolwine text to make sure you are feeling okay and not in to much pain. I literally could go on for days about how great these people are! Unnecessary expensive work done (that ended up not being done right and still can't get it right after close to a year) and after paying cash for the procedure (price of a new small car) I noticed they also billed my insurance when they said the insurance wouldn't pay for something considered cosmetic. I went into the office to discuss this and they said it was an error on their behalf and they would delete the charges from the insurance. A month later they billed the insurance again on several occasions for the same thing we'd gone over. I was told they would contact me with an appointment (when the "part" they needed came in) as did the Dr text me this and I haven't heard from them in 2 months. Make sure you double check your charges with your insurance. Make very sure you are made aware of what is being done and why it is necessary and what the end outcome could be and should be and get paperwork on it as well and keep it bc prices change from one day to the next. Being in the medical field for over 34 years I wouldn't recommend the dentist nor office. read more

Sonterra dental I would highly recommend to family and friends. The initial phone call with Amy was smooth and efficient; she is very helpful and nice. There are a lot of options for appointment times. Upon arrival; I was greeted by the friendly, kind front office staff. I did not have to wait long at all. I was then introduced to Lana who would be my hygienist; she is very thorough and kind as well. She explains everything in detail and is well versed in her practice. The exam and cleaning was done very well. I then met Dr. T, would would be my dentist; she is kind, friendly and very thorough/detailed as well when it came to explaining my treatments etc, both Lana and Dr. T answered all my questions. I then met Ashley upon leaving and like the rest of the other staff members she is very friendly, kind, helpful and professional. The office: lobby area, treatment areas; all are aesthetically pleasing, clean and functional. I am happy I found them on Yelp. I feel I am in great hands here. read more

Signed up with my insurance, called them to schedule an appointment because the "free whitening for life" ad caught my eye. Told the lady what kind of insurance I had, even gave her my info and policy number so she could make sure they accepted my insurance and plan. Didn't have anything until 2 and a half MONTHS out. I still scheduled it. Then the DAY BEFORE my appointment, a lady calls me and tells me they "don't accept my HMO dental plan"... So even after they verified my plan and knew it was an HMO plan when I scheduled my appointment, they waited almost 3 months, the day right before my scheduled appointment, to call me and tell me "sorry we don't accept your insurance." OH and they charged me a $25 or $50 fee when I booked my appointment also. Super disappointed in this. read more

Dr. Woolwine is an incredible dentist and Sonterra Dental is a very good practice. The staff is very friendly and makes the annual cleaning a very pleasant experience. Pam and Lana have been here since the previous dentist, Dr. Jackson, had the practice. Both are very thorough and friendly. Sonterra Dental also offers some very fancy technology (I will not disservice the business with inaccurate descriptions) but it appears they do offer a wide range of services with innovative equipment. My husband and I have been patients for more than 4 years and have always been treated with respect, dignity and in a timely fashion. I have never waited more than 5 minutes upon entering their office and am greeted by name and a smile every time. My cleanings are quick and pain free by the dental hygienist and the head dentist is always kind and prompt. When I have had questions dealing with my children and their dental history, the dentist has answered my questions promptly by phone or email. They are not even his patients but he cares for us and has helped us. On a personal note, I just called to ask for recommendations/advice about new dental care. I didn't have to be put on hold, or wait 5 minutes for someone to assist me, but my question was answered promptly and I was satisfied with their answers. I had an emergency dental issue. Called 11 dentist office none would see me that day. I called Sonterra dental and dr Tapangan had me come in even though they closed in 30 minutes. She and her staff stayed an hour late to take care of me. Later that night she followed up with me. Probably the best experience I've had for dental visits in a long long time! I highly recommend this place! I was scheduled for root scaling with an in-network dentist office and decided to on different dental offices based on Google reviews. Sonterra Dental had great reviews so I called to check on the possibility of them accepting new clients. Amber was so helpful and was very knowledgeable about my needs and scheduled me for a consult the next morning. Once I got to the office for my appointment on Thursday morning I completed the standard new patient paperwork and was given a tour and introduced to Dr. Woolwine and the rest of the staff. Pam the Hygienist on staff was excellent on my follow-up for cleaning on Tuesday morning and Pam got to work right away. Even though I am a new client, I feel very comfortable with everyone in the office and certainly look at this as a long-term relationship for my dental health. I love the direction they are going in keeping current with technology. After my "deep cleaning" appointment I expected to have sore gums but didn't experience any pain or soreness throughout the day nor the day after.
