This is the second time that I needed Bob's help, and once again, he took great care of us. I had a replace a Schlage smart lock. Initially, I removed the troublesome part, and it looked like I could replace that one part, tighten a couple of screws and be done.. so I ordered a replacement. Unfortunately, Schlage had "improved" their design.. including the use of a new wire harness.. so everything has to be replaced together. Previously, Bob had matched our keys, so I wanted to use my old key piece in the new lock. This was becoming complex so I called for help. My senior dad found Bob from the Yellow Pages. And after asking my dad a few questions on the service, I was surprised to learn, the locksmith had actually just replaced the inner part (see picture). The part, where I wasn't able to figure out how to remove, without the door knobs on either end. Believe me, I spent some time trying to figure it out. And had I done so, I would've just replaced it with a brand new lock. So that was unexpected. For I was certain a younger locksmith would've just replaced it with a brand new lock as well; and charged more that double or triple what Bob asked for. Amazing service! I called Bob on a Monday morning to get help with 3 locks that were sticking and difficult to open and close. He was able to come to my house within 30 minutes and fixed all 3 locks quickly and efficiently. Very impressed with Bob! Today I locked myself out of my house on my way to work without house keys and car keys. Bob came over quickly. I have the reprogrammable locks and apparently they're almost impossible to pick. I asked Bob if he had a picture of the key if that would help. I had my dad send me a picture of the house key. I showed Bob the picture of the house key. He looks at it for about 3 seconds and heads to his van. I'm thinking he must be going to see if he has a blank for the key style. It seems like he's in the van for just about 30 seconds or less and then comes out and shows me a key. I'm thinking oh great he found the key style. I look at the key and compare it to the picture. They look pretty similar. Bob then walks over to the door and puts it in and the door opens. What!?! Bob made an exact key by looking very briefly at a picture. I still can't believe it. Ignition on 2003 Honda Odyssey gradually got worse, having to force the key in. Crazy that in the world of OEM parts, no company simply sells a replacement ignition cylinder. Honda dealer only will replace entire ignition assembly (part ~$270) and w/ install ~$570. That's totally nuts! I did find a OEM assembly for $168. Install myself? Could do that. I found Bob/Affordable Lock & Key through other Yelp reviews & see that he's experienced in Honda ignitions. Turns out, VERY experienced. He's the guy that a local (Roseville) Honda dealership relied on for over a decade. We met at convenient place where I could be productive while he did work (in ~45 min). He showed me the worn out wafers/tumblers. The rebuilt cylinder works fine now. I trust it will for years as new tumblers are OEM parts with same mfrs specs. I trust his work. read more

After calling around to a lot of other locksmiths, I was referred to Bob. And I'm so glad! I had a really weird problem with my ingition in my car and none of the 8 other locksmiths I called were even willing to come look at my car. I called Bob, expecting the same answer. He said he couldn't promise anything, but that he would at least come look at it. He did (sooner than he said! yay!) and about 45 minutes later confidently figured out the problem (turns out that I needed a new key--much cheaper and easier than the dealership that quoted me $600 to replace the entire ignition and keys!). He tested it out many times to make sure that I wouldn't be stranded any longer and then gave me some suggestions if it happened again, and stating that he was willing to help me out by doing a little research to get a better deal on a part I may need.
