Hired April 2025 -- unresolved as of January 2026. The project involved residential interior and…read moreexterior work and was time-sensitive due to environmental and animal-safety considerations. I was satisfied with the quality of the work, but the project was not completed. The larger issues were timeliness, follow-through, communication, and billing transparency. Communication became increasingly unresponsive, and eventually the contractor stopped communicating with me directly, routing communication through his wife instead, which led to confusion about prior agreements. By late October 2025, the project remained unfinished. I was later told the business was prioritizing other types of jobs, something that had never been communicated upfront. I ultimately terminated the project in November 2025. A final walkthrough was never conducted before billing. I raised questions about specific invoice items multiple times over several months but did not receive explanations. Concerns that were raised were not addressed, and responsibility for unresolved issues was not acknowledged. In several instances, issues I raised were attributed to my expectations rather than addressed as deviations from the agreed scope or as workmanship concerns. Payment discussions were directed to a third party rather than handled directly with me, which I was not comfortable with, and I was unexpectedly told there was an unpaid balance after being informed a reduced payment would settle the account. I was also later told--after the fact--that the job was being worked on only in the contractor's "free time," which was never disclosed and would have affected my decision to hire them. Taken together, the lack of response to my questions and the use of third-party communication instead of direct contact ultimately damaged the process and made the experience feel dismissive and disrespectful. Additionally, a late-fee policy was introduced retroactively nearly three months after invoicing and had not been disclosed in advance or listed on the invoice. I paid the balance aside from the disputed portion in an effort to move toward closure. Based on my experience, I would not hire this business again. If you choose to work with them, I recommend confirming that scope, timelines, communication expectations, and billing terms are clearly documented in writing from the outset.

We recently purchased our forever home and the stairs to the basement were horribly steep and even…read moredangerous. We walked away from this house once because of that, but when the house came back on the market, we knew this was the home for us! We purchased it "eyes wide open" knowing we had to do something with the stairs. We spoke to a lot of knowledgeable people who all said the same thing. This would be a challenging job because the stairs would have to be demolished and rebuilt, but we still only had the space that was there to get the correct rise and tread sizes, which would impact the head space at the bottom. In other words, a tall person would have to duck...and this would never do! I had three carpenters look at my stairs. The first carpenter shook his head and said he had no clue where to start. The second carpenter was Brian from B&C, who I found through an online search and was blown away by their great reviews and the pictures of their amazing work! Brian immediately started calculating available space, and thinking outside the box. His knowledge and transparency inspired me to have great confidence in him and his price was super reasonable! The third carpenter came across as this being not a great challenge, which I knew better, and proceeded to give me a price that was nearly double of Brian's. So, our choice was clear. Brian had pre construction meetings with us to keep us apprised of his plans, as well as meetings during the construction. After calculating and brainstorming with his crew, he said he could reframe the ceiling at the bottom to give more head space. He also discussed cutting into and reframing the top landing to get additional space. Brian kept us informed each step of the way and his craftsmanship was impressive. We started the work on November 1, with our only deadline being completed before Thanksgiving. Brian completed our work in about 10 days! While I did post a couple of finished photos, B&C's websites will have good before and after pictures. I wholeheartedly recommend B&C for any carpentry job. You will get honesty, integrity, transparency, great communication, fair pricing and old fashioned craftsmanship!

I agree with other comments that if you don't have a huge project needing done McDaniel's does not…read morewant to be bothered. In October 2025, we chose to remodel our bathroom. We chose McDaniel's because we prefer to support local when possible, and we felt we would receive more personal and professional care from them than from a big box store. Nicole R. (our designer, who was more of a salesperson than a designer) was a total disappointment. Her communication skills were almost non-existent. We were often waiting days to weeks (even with reminders) for her to return a call or an email. When she chose to communicate, she was abrupt, condescending, scattered in her thoughts, and made promises to appease us, but later nothing came of her promises. It is now April and the project is still not completed. We had to pay $100 before McDaniel's would measure the area. Nicole did not accurately measure the height of the vanity and the length and height of the side-splash resulting in me either not using the side-splash or paying to have the new drywall cut into in order to move the electrical up. On February 5th I sent Nicole a picture of the error and she said she "would be out ASAP." Later that day she emailed that she would be out March 9th. Upon sharing my concerns about the length of the side splash Nicole explained that it was customary to measure the side splash longer than needed and the construction people would cut or grind it to the correct size. I cannot imagine all contractors have the tools to do this. As far as the electrical outlet placement and the height of the side splash is concerned Nicole agreed it was not acceptable and offered cutting it to 1" in height. I told her that was not acceptable and that I wanted the electrical moved up. She agreed if it was her house that is what she would want done and said she would immediately get with their construction person. Not ours, theirs, since it was her mistake. I waited another three weeks and two days to be contacted by him, all the while reminding Nicole every week that we needed closure. On March 24th Eric from Granite Construction called. He said he would have someone out that afternoon and was going to email me a work order for my signature. I waited approximately 30 minutes but rather than the work order I received the name of an electrician and told that I would have to pay for the repair. In total frustration I contacted the owner/manager of McDaniels, Don Jessup. He said he agreed with some of my points (many are not mentioned here) but since we used our own contractors, McDaniel's is not accountable. (Their contractors wanted $16,332 for a small, typical bathroom.). He offered to refund the side splash and six vanity handles (that I paid $90 for but never ordered), but since then he has chosen not to answer my emails about how I need to go about the return, paperwork, etc. At this point I feel I have given McDaniel's every opportunity to make things right before posting this review. I am hoping to save others the unprofessionalism and lack of respect I received. As of April 6th (today) I have not received any communication from Nicole regarding whether the electrical problem has been resolved, asking me if I was pleased with how the bathroom turned out, or thanking me for my business. Nothing from Don Jessup either.

The project manager Norm Shamoun was nice, professional -- just AWESOME!! He communicated with me frequently and kept me updated on work status and any issues. Dan examined the water damage in the bathroom floor around the fixtures and checked the subfloor underneath. He decided what needed to be done. He wrote up a proposal and contract, and made the cost very fair and affordable. Norm and Zach worked so hard in taking off the damaged flooring layer by layer - down to the joists! They then professionally installed layers of new flooring, laid the interlocking tiles that we had picked out, and finished it perfectly with new baseboard. My family and I think it's beautiful! David and Josh came to install a new toilet and fix plumbing. They did a great job by repositioning the toilet and making sure there were no leaks. We lived with a bad floor for over a decade, not knowing the full damage that had taken place. So we are thrilled with the new quality construction of our bathroom.
