I have been coming to Gilbert's for a little over 10 years now. It seems they always the things the box box stores don't have. This is a hardware store the way hardware stores used to be. I come in here mostly for stem and diverter rebuilds for the old bath/shower systems in rental properties: they will rebuild the hot, cold and diverter stems while you wait. I have always been very pleased with their services and they also build screens for windows and replace screens if you bring them in. Overall, Gilbert's is a great hardware store with good pricing and very helpful employees.

Amazing service! 10/10!!…read more Gilbert's is the reason why you NEED to support local shops. This hardware store is filled to the brim with everything you can think of for your home projects. The best part is the staff is incredibly friendly and very knowledgeable if you have any questions. A family member directed us to Gilbert's for a home repair issue in our laundry room. We stopped in around 9am on a Saturday and were immediately greeted by two kind women who helped fixed up a contraption for us. They also thoroughly explained how to install the product and let us know they'd be welcome to answer any questions we had if it didn't work out. A kind employee even offered to order me in a product that they didn't have stocked. You cannot beat that kind of service! The laundry tub has now been fixed with no issue. Will definitely be sticking to Gilbert's for any hardware needs in the future! Cannot say enough good things!

A couple of times I had to make multiple trips in one day. The staff was always professional and helpful, and almost always had what I needed, which is saying a lot since I managed an old 50-unit building that needed a lot of things for a lot of problems. Sometimes I would grab the wrong thing, and it was never a problem bringing it back and exchanging it for the right thing. Sometimes my boss would get a bit behind in paying for it all, and they would gently remind me, and the ol' slumlord would send them a check from Florida. They were cool but firm about it. It seemed to be a situation they'd been through many times before. They have homey touches here - a small tv on the counter that's always showing something. A fridge with Faygo in the can. My favorite thing about 3rd Ave Hardware is the bicycle selection. In the warmer months there's a whole row chained together on the sidewalk out front. Old ten speeds, 70s 3 speeds, cruisers, mountain bikes, etc. But, wait, there's more inside! Another row between the front door and the register and still more up and down the cramped aisles! (3rd Ave Hardware could really use a more spacious locale.) The prices won't break the bank either. I just bought my second bike from there - a green mountain bike from CCM, that Canadian company that makes hockey equipment. It's a pretty sweet bike for $100. My last one was, too. It was an old 70s 3 speed with a big comfy seat and a glistening orange paint job that just looked like candy. Too bad it got ripped off. Oh well, that's life in the D. I won't pack it in, and I'm glad 3rd Ave won't either. I'm only knocking them down one star because of their paint selection. It's lousy and overpriced. Go somewhere else for paint.

I purchased a French door style 36" wide refrigerator at the Black Friday sale price . When it was delivered, I noticed that the refrigerator stuck out too far. I immediately contacted Alicia. She informed me that there were 2 depths, standard and counter. She apologized for not informing me that there were 2 options when I made my purchase. I decided to return the standard depth and replace it with a counter depth refrigerator. I was informed by Alicia that her manager Matt would not agree to sell me the counter depth size at the Black Friday sale price. She told me that he would only give me $50 off for the regular price. I told Alicia that I would take my business to Lowe's. And I did. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE HOME DEPOT! Based on this extremely poor customer service, I will never shop at The Home Depot again and will share my experience with my family and friends.

While I'm waiting I'm listening to music on headphones, not really paying attention to people walking by, just watching for the customer in front of me to be served, when a woman approaches me from the side and waves a paint stick in my face then ask if I'm standing in line. WTF do you think? Then once key is made, customer service rep June forgets to give original key back I had to ask for it. Top it all off, check out kid Alex gave me a hard time about accepting the coupon. I should say this seems indicative of a recent trend in advertising on the part of local retailers: send coupons or offers to someone's home only to have the customer find out upon arrival sorry we don't take that coupon or sorry that's out of stock or we don't carry that item etc the old bait and switch routine get someone in your store with a free offer or coupon offer and then offer up excuses when the customer wants to redeem the offer. Needless to say I did contact Ace's corporate offices as they're the ones who sent the coupon the local store didn't but they were no help they say store is independently owned and operated so they can make their own policies about whether or not they want to accept our coupons. Yeah. I got free key at the end of the day so two stars review but they probably deserve less. Staff encountered: customer service rep June, cashier Alex, unidentified woman with stick

Maybe you also go there for lumber, light fixtures, and floor tile. This location actually does have some lumber, but they are limited for lighting (other than bulbs) and I don't have floor tile. But, they have everything else you need. I needed a smoke detector, and the hardware stores that used to be near me are all closed down, so I headed to Home Depot. Then, I remembered last time I went to Home Depot: I just needed a few door screws, and the checkout line was about 15 people long. I have since decided to go to Lowe's for lumber and other large items, but I can get everything else I need right here. They don't have as many of some items as you would find at Home Depot, but they probably have everything else. They had my smoke detector, and I noticed they have an impressive selection of fasteners and pipe fittings, possibly even rivaling big home-improvement stores. And, they had mason jars. Mason jars? Yes, mason jars. It turned out that I needed lids for jars I was using for pickling. And, you can get keys cut here, which I don't believe Home Depot offers. Take that, Home Depot! When you get right down to it, the only thing you'll get at Home Depot is more exercise: they are significantly larger, after all, and it takes a while to get between places. Maybe I will come back if it's raining and I can't take my dogs out for a walk. But, for the basic stuff, I'm coming here.
