How many of you know what hard water is? If you answered "ice" that is not the correct answer no…read morematter how cold it gets here in Minnesota. Well at least in case of what I am talking about here. Hard water actually has some pretty detrimental effects on items in your home. Some signs that you have hard water are your clothes don't get clean when washing them. There are stains in the toilet (no not from that either), and your shower head is not working as well as it once did. Your appliances can actually wear out faster with hard water and your pipes could even get clogged. No I am not a hard water specialist, but when we moved into our home over 20 years ago, I wanted to learn as much as I could about our home and how to take care of it. One of the first items we purchased was a water softener from Merles. Now over 20 years later that original water softener that we purchased is still going strong. We definitely can tell the difference between soft water in the house and hard water outside. The other nice part to all of this is that the only maintenance that we have ever had to do is every few months add a bag of salt to the salt bin of our water softener. You can purchase big bags of salt right from Merles. They even have a punch card where you can earn a free bag. If you think about the appliances alone that could be effected by hard water (dishwasher, washer, hot water heater), this is the type of product that is not only important, it pays for itself. Merles has always been great to work with and if we are ever worried about our water, we can bring a sample in for testing. To me, water is water. Like when I drink lemonade and tell my wife that lemonade is water, just with more flavor. Well water is water, but there is no doubt that soft loveable water is much better for you and your home than hard water.

Merles was old-school trustworthy. John examined our water and gave us a quote and Dave installed, and both brothers were very friendly and knowledgeable, even when our older house gave a bit of an issue on the install. When I called with questions, I was given helpful information too. I recommend for anyone wanting to know if they need RO or just water softening, I cannot say enough about the Merles family being great and knowledgeable!

They send rude and unprofessional techs - one intimidating me and being confrontational in front of my two children WHILE INSIDE MY HOME. Strike two. The second tech misinterpreted my kindness for...? When he came back he kept asking about my husband and if something had changed. Strike 3. I was told there was an issue with the water softener and that they would contact for a service appointment. They never did. I had to reach out to them, and they have course came out to the appointment. They didn't tell me anything that they had done, left, and charged me $200. Surprise - it didn't even solve the problem. I had to wait until my new water softener was here, but I was thrilled to call and tell them to kick rocks. I am happily a Culligan customer and will continue to tell anyone and everyone a horrible experiences I've had with Gibsons. YOU CANNOT INTIMIDATE - HARASS - COME ONTO WOMEN IN THEIR OWN HOMES.

Only choice I had was to leave... service was poor and they thought that the lack of user readable meters for the chemicals meant that they could charge whatever they wanted. Turns out, they are under new management and they're clearly trying to gouge their customer base. Don't sign up... or get rid of them if you're an existing customer.

I called a competitor and they quoted me about 8k with a Maintence fee. I called Culligan and their system was less than half and since my experience with softening systems was sketchy at best I went with the cheaper option especially after the other salesman told me they charge 20k for the same system in Alexandria because the market will pay the price. I expected little but got a wild surprise. The crap that came out of our lines required me to remove and clean all faucets and shower heads. I had to clean the back of my tanks because it was cleaning out all the rust and crap from the back of the tanks. Our drinking glasses we simply threw away every month or so. Those actually cleaned themselves within a few glass fulls. SMH I love this company and their product! No smell, no spotting, clothes, towels soft

There is no cost to us, which is great. However, Culligan is only open 8-4:30 M-F, so definitely not easy for people who work to schedule the service call. Expanded hours at least one night a week would be much more customer friendly, since I really don't want to take a vacation day so Culligan can come to my house.
