A very famous place in Vancouver, but I haven't tried it until now. The specialty platters are a great deal! I loved the pita bread with dip and the deep-fried chips in the platter the most! They have a special room where you can sit on the floor without shoes, but we opted to sit at the regular table since it would be more comfortable. Great atmosphere and experience.

Potato parwar - so crispy and delicious!

Always a great time at Afghan Horseman! Service is always warm and friendly with excellent food. Their menu has changed about a year or so ago and the platters have changed a little but still generous in portion and delicious! The potato panwar is one of mine and my boyfriend's favourites so even though they serve some with the platter, we ordered an additional appy size as we can't get enough. Pro Tip: There is limited parking in the Plaza the restaurant is located at but if you're lucky enough to score a spot, there's a QR code for free 2 hours parking at Afghan Horseman once you arrive at its doors so no need to pay! Otherwise, there's paid parking around the neighbourhood or at Granville Island.

Located in Granville Island, Afghan Horseman is one of the oldest Afghani restaurants in Vancouver with mouthwatering Afghani dishes. Their menu caters for a family-style dining experience with platters that can be shared with 3-4 people. Their platters also have a variety of items and you can easily customize it to your liking. Their portions are very generous as well! I loved everything that I ordered their but the best item on their menu were their super crispy potato pakoras with their labneh dip!! It was so good and very addicting to eat, would choose this over fries any day. Their Afghan special platter had meat and veggie options which I really liked because it catered to everyone on the table. Their lamb shoulders were sooo soft they practically melted in my mouth. Their chicken kebabs were so flavourful and complimented the kabuli rice! The service at Afghan Horseman was attentive and friendly, the staff eager to guide us through the menu and provide recommendations. The showcase the Afghani culture not only through their cuisine but also through their decor! They also had a belly dancing performance on the night we went in (Friday night) which we thoroughly enjoyed and it really got us submerged in the Afghani culture. I would highly recommend this restaurant and I personally cannot wait to go back!

Dessert with the dine out menu . Soooo good.

Came here during dine out Vancouver and holy cow everything was absolutely delicious. From the appetizers to the main courses and the dessert I can't say a bad thing. We really loved how flavourful all the meat dishes were, and those potato slices seem double fried and poufy are to die for. Ambiance is very unique and to my understanding. If you go late enough on a Friday and Saturday for dinner, they have music and belly dancing. Service quick and helpful. It's definitely a restaurant you need to check out at some point if you are visiting Vancouver or if you live here and haven't had a chance to go.

This place gets so busy and the restaurant was actually full. We were told that our meals might come out in 30-45 mins and since we can't have the table for more than 2 hours, we could only do mains and no appies. Glad we didn't do appies as the mains were huge. Ordered the platter for 2 which can easily feed 3. Chicken was a bit dry with big portions of potatoes and rice. Lamb shank was very flavourful but the chops were chewy. Service was good and the waiters came by often to refill our water. As the restaurant was full it was a tad loud so thankful there wasn't over powering music in the background like some restaurants. This place has been around for a long time. Strange location and parking is hard to find but overall great experience.

Some of the best food I've ever had. Environment and overall experience was absolutely incredible. I would highly recommend coming here if you are looking for authentic Afghan food in an authentic environment.

Located near Granville Island, it had almost been a decade since I was last at Afghan Horsemen. Yes prices have gone up with inflation but the delicious taste is still there! I went with a friend and we got the eggplant dip to share as an appetizer. It is quite a good size and I quite enjoyed the flavors to start off our meal. I got the lamb kebab dish for my main and it was a decent amount of food. I did wish there was a bit more seasoning on the kebab but overall it was not bad. If you are going with a large group, I recommend getting one of their platters as it is definitely what they are known for. Also if you are eating in - there is FREE PARKING for four hours which I did not know until I had already paid.

I remember this place from about 30 years ago it was so good! The food and experience back then was memorable so when I was in town I requested we come here to celebrate my birthday! The food is incredible. You can't go wrong with anything on this menu. They have selections for vegetarians as well. The ambiance and service were amazing! We even had an amazing belly dancer who went through the entire restaurant appear. I highly recommend this place. There is a reason why they've been around for so long. So happy they are still in business! Thanks for making my birthday so memorable! My only complaint is I wanted to stay longer and we were the last to leave it was so much fun lol! They definitely need an after hours venue for the partiers ;)))

Cute spot with lovely theme decor. Really transports you away from the city. Great spot for all party sizes. They were able to accommodate a large party dinner very close to when we needed it. We had almost 20 people! Well attended by the waiters. The food was pretty good overall. I liked the eggplant dip the most from the sample platter.

I have been coming here for years and have NEVER had anything shy of an amazing experience. The service is wonderful. The food is amazing every time hands down, and the ambiance can't be beat. Sitting in the cushion room on a night when they have belly dancing entertainment is such a fun experience. Overall the food is the star of the restaurant. Authentic and rich flavours that leave you satisfied yet wanting more.

    Horsemen special platter and mantu
    Christina L.

Big portions and delicious food. Loved the meat skewers, fried potato, salad, basically everything we ordered was tasty. Walked out with food coma. The mantu was recommended to us, but we felt it tasted okay and nothing special. I've sat in both the table and chairs area and the cushions. I prefer the table and chairs to be honest. More comfortable and you don't need to take off your shoes.

Afghan Horsemen Restaurant is located across from Granville Island in a small complex. There is some parking below the restaurant but it's quite limited and it's only for 30 minutes. I've been here once before in the past and was excited to revisit for another round of Dine Out Vancouver! This time we sat in one of their booths which added to the Afghan Horsemen Restaurant dining experience. The manta are dumplings that reminded me of ravioli. They were filled with ground meat (beef and lamb) and topped with a tomato lentil sauce. The dumpling wrapper was smooth and silky in texture which is an odd way to describe it but it was so yummy! The filling of ground meat was on the crumbly side unlike Chinese style dumplings. My favourite part was the tomato sauce on top! This dish came with a piece of lamb shoulder, rice pilaf, fried potatoes, and salad. The lamb shoulder was soft and tender. It came off the bone and you could tell it's one of their specialty dishes. I'm not a huge fan of lamb and I was pleasantly surprised by the one here. The rice pilaf was strong in warm spices and had raisins to add sweet notes. I was the most interested in trying the potatoes because I've never had them before. They were strangely chewy in texture because of the batter and the exterior remained crispy.

    Fresh pita with eggplant

Excellcent customer service! Definately recommend making a reservation on the weekend because it was super busy. We ordered the platter and everything was really fresh including the homemade bread but I was really dissapointed in the rice portion as you can see in the pic. We came a few years ago from Seattle and were so excited to visit this place again since their portions were huge and the quality was great but this time they were really skimpy on the rice. Its a platter for 3 ppl and the rice only feeds 1 person and I'm a big rice lover. Also their mint tea was delicious! Some street parking is available along with a few spots in their lot but space is limited so plan ahead.

My coworker and I came here on a Saturday afternoon, we got a reservation ahead of time and I'm glad we did because this place was pretty busy. We got their aperol spritz for drinks which was very refreshing, would recommend this for the summer. For food, we got their dip platter and chose their hummus, labne, and baba ghannouj. My coworker was gluten-free so they were very nice to give us some gluten free chips instead of the bread with the dips. We also got their halloumi fries which came with a pomegrante dipping sauce - I LOVED IT! The halloumi fries were cooked so well! We also got their prawns which were really fresh and delicious. I would definitely come back! Their hummus was so good, it's for sure a very authentic Lebanese spot.

Definitely try to go at opening or when it is not busy, as the dine-in experience is memorable - they place your order in a long wooden board to make it a beautiful spread. We got the Manoush'eh Special which has ground beef, pomegranate, etc and Sham Style which is shaped like a boat. We also tried the yogurt drink which pairs well with the dishes. The only con is that this place does not have free water, but it is no problem to have our own water bottles supplementing the meal. We also got the lentil soup which is pretty good. Definitely sufficient to share one to try, but the Manoush'eh outshines the rest of the items. I loved the quality and texture of the Manoush'eh and just the breads in general. It is a lot of food for 2 people so if you want a snack, you can definitely just share 1. Some people go here for the wraps too. Overall, an affordable restaurant with good food. We got the most expensive items and it was less than 50 CAD all-in, but a lot of the items are around the 10 CAD mark.

We were greeted by what I assume was the owner (as I also saw him featured prominently in the YouTube video) and took a seat at a table in this relatively small seating area. I kinda had an idea of what I wanted so I started to order.. that is, until the owner told me that he recommended something else on the menu instead. I'd be lying if I said this didn't catch me off guard a bit and even rubbed me the wrong a little, mostly because I had my mind set on what I wanted but I gave him the benefit of the doubt and accepted his recommendation. Again, I'll admit that I was a little pessimistic during the wait. I told my girlfriend that I hoped the Philly was as good as he thought it was because if not, I was going to be severely disappointed and my review would highlight that. I gotta say, great call from the gentleman. The Philly wasn't the most traditional I've ever had but it was a very yummy variation with nice textural differences that made it an abundantly enjoyable experience. The meat was cooked very well, the cheese was gooey, the fried onions gave it a great crunchy bite and that sauce was a scene stealer. All in all, what started off as a bit of an uncomfortable experience ended in one of our favorite dinner outings of our trip. The only extra detail that I'd like to share to the owner is to update his menu highlighting his personal recommendations so people lean towards those more. I like to take recommendations and ask for them consistently but maybe others wouldn't have appreciated it and could've taken it a bit out of context.
