After hiking for a few hours, we were ready for a late lunch. The place we wanted to try was randomly closed so we ventured across the street to Mehman Restaurant. They're nestled in between Krua Thai Restaurant and a Red Burrito branch. We dropped in on a Sunday afternoon (around 2:30pm) and it was slightly busy for the random time. Service is a touch slow but friendly. Menu consists of appetizers, kebobs, combo and stews. They also have some very reasonably priced, pickup only weekday specials ($11.99 to $12.99, from 11:30am to 4:30pm). - Pita - they bring a basket of pita and raw onions to the table. - Combo ($38.99) - choopan kebob (lamb shoulder chops), chicken wings and koobideh kebob (two skewers of ground beef). This option easily feeds three people. It comes with three plates of steamed rice, grilled tomatoes and pepperoncini peppers. All the meats were excellently charred and tender. The chicken wings (a mix of wings and drumsticks) were incredibly juicy. The choopan kebob wasn't gamey but retained a good bite/pull to it. The koobideh kebob was the richest of the meats. Wish they offered some vegetables/salads as an alternative to all that rice. Mehman excels in the meat department but would appreciate if they offered some balance. 3.5 stars. read more

This is by far the best place to go for Persian/Iranian. We are from California and have tried many 5 star Persian restaurants in both northern Ca and Southern Ca and I have to say this place topped them all off on the best food, most variety, and the g service. We came here debating because of some of the poor reviews but apparently those who gave the poor reviews don't know what Persian food is and their reviews are unjust. We'll definitely be back next time we come to Vancouver. read more

I ordered the lamb and beef plate (forgot the name on the menu) and it was delicious. The beef was definitely more tender than the lamb and although the lamb was still good, I would order the beef again. The eggplant spread or dip was smokey, tangy and just devine. This could have been a great place if they had some good servers working in. The ambience is neat and updated with chandeliers and mirrors over walls. We were seated immediately after we went in. Next came the server who did not know anything about the menu. Not good! We kept asking her questions regarding the ingredients going into the dish, but all she could answer is I don't know. Not even like, I will ask and let you know. Disappointed! So, I ordered quaboli pulao, which I though was delicious. Basmati rice and chicken kabob at the base with raisins, nuts and carrots at the top. I loved it. Others in my group had different dishes which they didn't like it much. We were visiting from the US and were craving some Persian food. The barg was fine as were the prices but the koobideh was greasy and almost uneatable. Worst part was the service or lack thereof. The lady behind the counter barely budged unless prompted; like can we please have some small dishes for the yoghurt. She looked like she didn't want to be there and providing some basic service was beneath her job description. After reading all the high reviews, I was really looking forward to this restaurant. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed with the service and the food. We only got take-out so I can't speak to the dine-in experience. The first time I called was about an hour before they were scheduled to close and when I asked if it was possible to pick-up the order 15 min before they close, she simply said "no". And then she proceeded to tell me to call them when I am closer to the restaurant to see if they were still there to make the food. It was very strange. The next day, we got take-out for lunch and when we came to pick up the food, the servers were too busy chatting to give us our order. That's ok, maybe they were talking about something important. When we got the food home, there was no sauce to accompany the meal. I'm used to the garlic sauce at kebab restaurants but maybe this place doesn't include it. We got the lamb, beef kebab, and chicken meals along with hummus to share. The worst of the dishes was the hummus. It tasted like stale chickpeas and had no flavour. Everything else was mediocre. The best item in our order was probably the grilled tomatoes. I definitely won't ever be back considering the bad customer service and the subpar food. Virizi is my go to order. The chicken was extremely juicy and seasoned perfectly. The kebedeh was tender and juicy as well. The viziri salad was also seasoned well. The only thing that I would suggest improvements on would be the rice it was a bit soggier then what I'm use to from other places. Overall experience was nice the service was friendly. I usually go to Cazba for my Persian food fix. However, I have been venturing to other restaurants to see what is out there to offer once in awhile. This used to be another Persian restaurant. They have kept very much the same decor from the previous owners. My date and I shared a couple items. We ordered the chenjeh soltani (tenderized beef and ground beef skewers), mirza ghasemi (oven baked eggplant, mint and garlic dip) with pita. Also, I ordered a doogh (salty yogurt drink) and a free can of pop with Yelp perk check in. The food was really good. I would say the skewers and doogh tasted a bit better than Cazba's version. The skewers were nicely grilled and seasoned. The doogh was more herby. The eggplant dip was alright. Service was fast. No complaints there. Parking in the area can be very challenging at times. read more

I enjoyed my zeresh pollo very much. I wasn't crazy about the tah dig, but would order it again, knowing that it will be very oily and sort of soggy in places. But I wouldn't get a chance to order it again unless I was solo; my husband was very unhappy with the koobideh. Very unhappy. It seemed somewhat soggy to me, like bread soaked in milk and then added to the meat. To him, it tasted like filler, maybe soy. I could live with it. He couldn't. the worst restaurant and customer service in town, they sell meatless stew (cooked with meat) to vegetarians as a vegetarian dish, the owner is super cheap, although I asked for vegetarian stew they sent me a food full of meat and refused to payback $24 despite the fact their dumb new hire didn't pay attention to my request( because the smartest manager on earth has trained her to not pay any attention to the special instructions as per manager) he accused me of lying to get free food. they lie and cheat to make money. Horrible customer service, very rude and stupid indeed cus when you refuse to refund $24 to your regular customer to keep them happy, then you lose minimum 5x 24 over the next few months... bad mouthing and health complaints aside. Good food. Terrible service. I came in for an early dinner by myself and it wasn't busy. One table and some people getting take out. 2 young waitresses were often hiding in the back talking and ignoring the few people around. I was only asked what I wanted for food never asked about drinks and not provided any water. After I got my appetizer and finished I got my entree and still no water. I was left alone for a while and then I had to go find someone to ask for water. One of the girls brought me a tiny glass of water and they went back to hiding in the back. One brought another table their entree and 2 waters and no one was seen again for a while. Since no one cared to ask me 20 minutes after I had finished eating if I wanted it packed up or any more water I walked up and asked to pay. Then I saw on the machine they have preset the tip amounts to 30% 25% 20% Enter amount Are you freaking kidding me? Tiny restaurant that seems to do mostly takeout, barely any service and someone thinks they deserve a 20-30% tip by default? No way. I didn't even get my food packed up to take home and I left thirsty and had to get water elsewhere. These young waitresses did not care and yet seemed offended I didn't want to leave a big tip. I tip well but not for service like this. Owners may want to have a word with their staff. There is no excuse for being rude and ignoring customers when there's 1 other table in the restaurant and no one is busy. read more

Sorry Mehman, just meh. This was our first time trying Kebab and the waitress could not explain any of the menu. The pita came with wedges of onion wrapped in clear wrap. I did like the shaker of Sukac on the table, I have just discovered it's beautiful taste. We ordered Houmas it seemed watery. I read that the Barg was good and it was. I got this for my Son the most finicky of our party. So we made a couple other choices for me and the wife. The plate looked promising with basmati rice topped with some saffron coloured rice along a rectangular plate. Now to taste. One of the kebabs was ok the others tasted like greasy breakfast sausage. So I did not touch it. They removed it from the bill. Not a crowd pleaser. I wish it could have been better. If the waitress had been more knowledgeable this could have been avoided. read more

I just Yelped the Persian restaurants around and since they have a free soda as a promotion on top of really good reviews decided to wall in. Just a quick caveat before I start: I was going vegetarian when I was here and the selection was quite slim, so perhaps the more traditional choices of kebabs would have been better. Regardless, my veggie dumplings dish was pretty weak. They weren't really filled very much, and the filling itself seemed to be spinach with no seasonings whatsoever. When we walked in, the place was almost empty and we were surprised! We ordered Soltani and boneless chicken with appetizers. Much to our surprise salad shirazi and other appetizers were tasty and lunch came in a timely manner and it was the best Persian food we had in this area!!! The chicken was well seasoned, juicy and tender, koobideh and barg were also well seasoned and juicy! Overall the food was great!!!! The only reason I gave 4 stars is service. I had to ask for glasses to drink soda! Then I had to ask for ice! 3 times! Then I had to ask again for more glasses as they only brought a couple and we were 6! And so on.... Prepare yourselves people, you've found the best Iranian food that Vancouver has to offer. I've lived on the North Shore for 25 years and in that time, a ton of Iranian places have popped up and tried to give you a real Iranian experience. Sadly though, most fail pretty much due to everyone trying to turn it into fast food. Mehman, HANDS DOWN, has the best Iranian food in Vancouver. Not even a question. They offer the Michael Jordan of kabob's here (the Barg, which would make Gordan Ramsay convert to Islam). It's a fantastic mix of lean and fatty beef which just melts in your mouth. Once my Dad came here to eat for the first time, he took a moment to savour that first bite. He told me it was a complete throwback to his time in Iran. (Hint: it's the onions people, add more onions to your mixture!) Owned by wonderfully nice individuals, come down here and try it out. My family exclusively eats here now, so it's become a staple. Don't be a fool and spend your money at one of the other fast food like Iranian places now littering Vancouver. It's completely worth the trip. One of the best places in North Vancouver! To be completely honest, not a huge fan of the Afghan food. It's not as authentic, and the flavours aren't really there. But the Persian food is delicious! The worst beef kebob ever!! This is usually my favourite dish and I have had it in various restaurant (my friend as well); the beef kebob there was like eating fat, and it was tasteless. We did not eat it, just the rice. We told the waitress and she said she would tell the chef. I doubt she did and we still pay for the whole bill despite bringing it up. The service was terrible, the waitress was hearing but not listening. We had to keep asking twice for things when the restaurant was almost empty. Will never go again read more
