This was the second time I ordered the "Feast" and it had slipped a bit from what I remembered 4 years ago. Essentially an all-you-can-eat experience, it's fun to peruse a full menu of enticing-sounding dishes and go wild with ordering as much as you please. Some dishes read better than they taste however. Almost everything is stewed to the same soft texture and the flavours aren't terribly distinct from one another. The mango chicken, which I loved before, was too sweet for me this time. The mushroom soup, which had been packed with shrooms previously, sported a few small pieces. The chicken breast kabob was dry and overcooked. A few things stood out: The tiny cup of chai they offered at the start was richly redolent of cardamom and ginger. The whipped spinach was simple and good. The crisp-edged boulani (potato pancakes) were the perfect vehicle for scooping the hummus and baba ganoush, which were exemplary. The ambiance, gracious service and music are special-occasion worthy. Although the "Feast" is a memorable experience, for me, food does not take center stage. read more

We are party of 8 and all ordered the $49 tasting menu ( Silk Road Feast) which was such a great deal because it allowed us to try a wide variety of delicious dishes. This is like all you can eat order from the menu. The staff were all so kind and attentive, always checking in to make sure we continue ordering something new to try. One of my friends has celiac disease so finding restaurants to dine in that has good gluten-free options is sometimes a challenge. Luckily, we both had this place on our list to try for the longest time and their menu online had lots of GF items. When we arrived, we were served a sample of green chai with almond milk. It was a delicious drink! We then were led to our booth and the server explained their feast tasting menu where you get to try all their dishes and unlimited refills. All the food is already gluten-free and for $3 you get naan and boulani that is gluten free as well. The food was so delicious. Some highlights from the table were the mango chicken, whipped spinach, wild salmon, lamb curry, and chicken masala. The boulani was also excellent. We were so stuffed! Also, there was live music playing. They have live music every night. It was such a treat to be able to visit here with a few friends for dinner and I'll be sure to visit again! read more

Service was bad and feel duped. Went with my Mom and twin teenage kids. We were there early 5:15pm and there was no else but for one table finishing up. Food options are mainly a fixed sampler menu for unlimited eating at $47/person. No one in my party was that hungry so the server says we can order just an entree and that's what each of us did. Problem is there are no prices printed on the menu, for real. No prices for the entrees but maybe my bad for assuming it would be "reasonable". We debated what appetizer to order and then the server cuts us off and says, "No worries, I will bring a selection of options for you to taste on the house." My Mom then asks for a cup of hot water. We waited and waited while the restaurant filled up quickly. We saw every other table receive their appetizers, and guess what. We never received anything, no appetizers and no hot water. Food came out. My mom, daughter, and mine came out first. My son ordered the chicken kebab that came with no rice, you read correctly so we had to order an extra rice. I was almost done by the time his entree arrived bc they were so late with his. At this point, I just wanted to leave. Food was ok, not over the top. The bill came, and that's when I got even more ticked off. I never leave a sub 20% tip, but had no issue doing that tonight. Rotten service and overpriced. - $5.50 for a small bowl of plain rice, for real? The server never once implied the rice was charged on top of the entree. As I look thru my review drafts and "unposted" restaurant photos in 2024, this place was def a memorable spot worthy of a review for its exotic decor, cozy ambiance and excellent service. Visited on a weekday lunch and it was busy right when it opened; they offer a small cup of chai while you wait to be seated. I like the variety of dishes when you choose the Silk Route feast option and it was interesting to sample different menu items. Some dishes were better than others but I appreciated its small portion sizes to get a taste and try new dishes. Although not every item ordered were to my liking and I don't have an especially memorable dish that I can recommend, overall food presentation was good and it was an enjoyable meal. This restaurant is recommended for chill dates and is a good place for conversations and reunion to catch up because it's not loud and quite cozy. Sitting at the booth was nice and comfortable. We came here on a Thursday night. It wasn't crowded so we got seated shortly. While we were waiting, we were offered hot Apple ginger cider and mango lassi which were delicious. We were seated at a booth. The decoration was very unique and it gave me a cozy feeling. We were offered Silk Route Feast option, which was a tasting menu that included soup, salad, naan, rice and main dishes. Basically I got to try everything on the menu in small portions. I loved this option as I'm not a big eater but i wanted to try different things. My favorites were Mango Chicken, Cauliflower and Chicken Masala. Great concept for the tasting menu and a fun experience! Soup, salad, bread, rice, mezze and 3 choices from the main dishes, which can be reordered throughout the meal. Sounds like a lot, but the portions are small meaning you can try so many things if not everything! I really enjoyed the peas and cheese and the lentils. Saw the signboard out front promoting their Chai Feast weekdays at lunch for $21 and came by on a Friday in a group of 3. You order one salad, one soup and start with 3 of the mains. Then keep ordering until one is full or finished. This was a much better experience that the last time I was here. Our server was very attentive and stopped by regularly to see what else we would like to order. We ended up trying all the dishes. I quite liked the dahl soup, the lamb and the boulani. I had an excellent meal here with a friend on what was initially a quieter Thursday evening. There was a slight wait around 5 pm, and in the meantime we were treated to samples of their delicious chai. Once we got a table in the incredibly aesthetic restaurant, we were informed that there would be a $3 cover charge for the live music later that evening and that we had 1.5 hours to finish our meal. Any doubts we had about the limitations imposed quickly melted away as we took in the food menu and decided to go with the $39 unlimited feast and chai. The food itself was spectacular. I loved the variety of foods and we were never without empty plates. The service was top-notch, even when we felt sheepish for going for 2nds... and eventually 3rds. My favorite dishes included the eggplant, mushroom chicken cashew, and gormeh sabzi (lamb-based), though all were awesome. I also liked that they added in the salad, soup, baba ganoush, and boulani, which turned out to be Afghan stuffed pita bread, something I hadn't tried before. All the dishes really hit the spot. The apple lemon ginger chai was also yummy, something I had never tried before. It reminded me of cozy autumn and complimented the meal well. While I was initially hesitant about the live music, the 3 gentlemen played and sang beautifully at an unimposing, lower volume, adding to the ambience of the spectacularly decorated restaurant. I would like to start this by saying I used to be a regular at the other location (many years ago when i used to eat meat). So perhaps their carnivorous dishes were better. Despite having many empty tables and a reservation our group waited quite a bit to be seated. As we were being seated we were asked if we would like to donate 5$ to the performance that would start later on. We declined as we were unaware there would be one. Once seated we were given menus and left for some time. We tried to flag someone down as half the menu has no prices. And had questions about serving size as-well as allergies. The group was unimpressed with the wobbly chairs and lack of table. Smaller groups were at larger tables. Our group was informed that half the menu is all you can eat, they can make exceptions to this, but the price is almost exact same so they should get the all you can eat... Of the 4 of us 3 decided all you can eat. I decided you get the Boulani: one spinach and one squash. This comes with a soup approx 1/4 cup of soup. I informed the waitstaff of my allergies and they looked appalled, and asked if my friends knew. I said yes they knew No joking the Boulani was SO BAD I politely took one bite of each and immediately regretted it. Luckily my minuscule soup was palatable. I tried to get waitstaffs attention to send back the roti, but was unsuccessful. You'd think they'd notice a meal not getting touched. Only when they came to refill my friend's "all you can eat" was the (newly appeared) waitress highly confused. At which point I explained it was inedibly bland. I asked her to please remove it that I desperately tried to send it back but no one came. She said shed get someone else. I asked to please remove it and she said shed get someone else. Yet another waitress came and asked the issue. I explained that the flatbread was just bland and tasted bad. She asked if I wanted more, maybe a fresher one because it was cold. I re explained and so for some reason she brought me another 1/4 cup of soup. Long story short. When the bill came there was more misunderstandings. My drink was compted "because i didn't like it" but i was charger for boulani because "i ate it and liked it". "Ummm what? " a direct quote; I explained I liked the beverage. They decided to charge me 15$ for the soup and then the reg price for my beverage. They also charged each of us 5$ for the entertainment. Theres zero communication between staff, they need sections desperately. I really don't think 15$ should ever be paid for a soup that is that tiny. Especially one that was given to me because my meal was inedible. And just the amount of bad service alone! I wont be returning to main street east is east. The group was horrified. The music was waaaaaay too loud, and the staff seemed utterly clueless. read more

A fun feast, dope chai beverages The feast option is a great way to try as many dishes as you like. My favorites include the wild salmon, chicken masala, lamb curry, whipped spinach, creamy mushroom and eggplant - but between two people you could try most if not all of the dishes (no need to refill rice/sides with each course unless you want to). Both soups were also really good. The chai cocktails were delicious. The hot moon chai with baileys and brandy is amazing. Decor is eclectic, with live music each evening. Service was just terrible- they got our order wrong, with just two women serving the whole place, and the food was simply awful. As a person of Indian origin, I was trying to make sense of the menu as its totally confused. The "feast" is essentially buffet food they serve to you in guise of a bespoke meal, and most items were tasteless and awful. $39 for all you can eat dishes for the chai feast. You start off with a choice of one salad, soup, dip, and 3 dishes first and after you can choose as many as you can. The dishes come extremely small so order at least 5 or more while you are eating to avoid waiting. The rice is half plain basmati and half afghan rice with dried fruits. The roti was super plain and not buttery. The boulani was delicious and several orders were made. Mystic soup - based off of thai tom kha but slightly different. Hummus was finely pureed but the baba ganoush tasted exactly like hummus - unless they brought out the wrong one. It had the same gritty texture as hummus which eggplant shouldnt have. Dishes: Afghan eggplant - very flavorful. Only downside was it was over cooked and a little mushy Tibetan mantu - interesting taste. Comes with 1 dumpling with lentils on top. Creamy mushroom and eggplant - very creamy! The sauce made the dish Wild salmon - they say green thai curry but it didnt taste like it. Just tasted like coconut sauce with blended spinnach. The salmon itself was cooked well. Mango shrimp - the only one that comes with rice even though there is rice with the feast already. Shrimp done perfectly. Joojeh chicken skewers - comes with 2 pieces. Just average. Lamb curry - full of flavor. Little on the spicier side Mango chicken - tastless. Just a sweet curry sauce. $39 is a steep price tag but I would say it is a great way to experience all the different types of dishes. Probably just one time only. We came here with two friends who had been before, and they off the bat recommended getting the Silk Route Feast, as the best way to try different dishes and they were so right! The Feast is $39 and works like a tasting menu. You start off picking 1 salad, 1 soup, and 1 cold mezze along with 3 main dishes. It also comes with basmati rice and roti. This is where it gets fun. All in all, I tried 8 of their main dishes. Yep, that's right. A whopping eight. And did I roll out of East is East and into a straight-up up food coma? You bet I did. The dishes were smack delicious. And they're each served in these cute small bowls, so your original platter becomes a revolving gateway to more food. I tried the chana masala, mango butternut squash, chicken masala, wild salmon, Persian Gormeh Sabzi, Tibetan Mantu, and vegan butter chicken. All of the flavour from each bite rocked my palate. Everything was delicious and unique, it was a exploansion of textures and tastes. To me, some stand standouts would be the mango butternut squash, ghormeh sabzi, and the vegan butter chicken. There were still other dishes I wanted to try but there's also no way I could have managed that in the one sitting. I'm looking at you Afghan eggplant, alu gobi, mushroom and eggplant, and creamy spinach. There will be a next time. I also have to mention, the staff here are so friendly and very attentive. After spending the day at the Botanical Gardens, we stopped by East is East for lunch. They served us chai samples of the almond masala chai. We got a larger iced version. I ordered the boulani with eggplant and spinach. They mixed up my plate with my friend's so that was confusing at first. The tables are very close together and the bathroom lighting is very dark. The service was good but sometimes it was hard to flag them over for the bill. Overall the food is good but I think I would come back to try their other options other than the boulani. read more

It was a couple of my friends' first time and it had been years since I had been, so we each got the Chai Feast. It's a great option if you want to try a bunch of different things. You get to pick one salad, one soup, one mezze, and three mains. It also comes with stuffed roti, rolled roti, and rice. You can get refills of anything or get something new. You can basically get the entire menu. The lamb curry, mango chicken, and salmon were my favourite mains that I tried. Purely authentic!! Out of all restaurants I've been to, I've never been more impressed. The decor is astounding, and as is the music. These local artists made the experience much more unforgettable. The food is unbelievable too!! The most popular choice is the "Chai Feast" (also available as a vegetarian option) which consists of a salad, soup, and two main dishes of your choice. That's a lot of food for only $35 per person or $30 if vegetarian. East is East is by far the top contender as my favourite restaurant!
