    Haneeth platter
    Winnie S.

My family finally came to their new location after having been to its previous Chinatown location multiple times. This new South Granville location and decor is definitely much elevated as it moved in to the previous West restaurant location. It is also packed on a weekend and service kept up with the much busier environment. The menu has also expanded beyond the yummy platters. Of course, we still had to order the tender chicken and lamb Haneeth platter as it is our usual dish. In addition to the platter, we ordered a few of the new menu items. The lamb chops were done perfectly and all our favourite. We also had the lamb stew- Fahsa. It was tasty and lamb was tender. We finished off with both the regular and cheese kanufa. We plan to come back to try the tomahawk steak soon.

It was the last day of Ramadan so it was super busy. Even at 4:30 pm there was a massive lineup. Definitely way better business than when it was West. Good thing we had a reservation. The happy hour lime juice and Shirley temple were delicious. Also enjoyed the fries with the toum sauce. So delicious. I would not recommend their grilled chicken. It was very dry. The roast lamb was really good though. Some things are on the pricer side. Overall really enjoyed the food and it was the first time trying Yemeni food.

here's what i loved about this place. The prices were super reasonable. The salad and full rack of lamb was plenty for two people. The lamb was perfectly cooked and tasty. The presentation of the salad was unique and fun. Service was fine. The only things I didn't love were the noisy screaming children all around and the sweet salad dressing. The dressing thing is just me. I recognize that most people enjoy a sweet dressing so I am not deducting any stars for that. However any ambiance was totally destroyed by the noise.

The menu is full of enticing options: meat platters, haneeth (lamb or chicken), mandi, stews, soups, grilled items. Many dishes are hearty and built to be shared -- perfect for family, friends, or special occasions. Portions are large, freshness is evident, the rice is fluffy, the hot sauce packs a punch! They do not serve alcohol here, just an fyi.

We parked right out front, street parking. We were welcomed as we entered and seated within minutes. The restaurant is very clean, comfortable and quite modern looking. We ordered the lamb haneeth. I grew up eating lamb, but this was the moist tender, flavorful lamb I have ever eaten. The house salad and rice were a perfect compliment. Really enjoyed our meal and look forward to try l trying more of their offerings.

Just tried their baklava ice cream at night market - was incredible.. previously best baklava tried was at a high end shop in Türkiye, but this was better?! Recommended

Saba Foods is serving up some of the best Yemeni flavors in Vancouver! Their family meal was an amazing deal--huge portions, tender lamb haneeth, flavorful chicken mandi, and all the sides to complete the feast. If you're craving a hearty, comforting meal, this spot is a must-try! This was my first time trying ful, and I am such a believer now! It's like a hot, deeper, richer, more flavorful version of hummus. And their kunafeh are to die for!

First time trying Yemeni food and it was so awesome!! I'm not usually a fan of lamb, but this place made me like lamb! - half rack grilled lamb ($19): so flavourful, and not gamey at all! - lamb soup ($4): delicious and hearty! - platter for 3 ($128): there was 1 piece of toast lamb haneeth, chicken leg haneeth, chicken breast haneeth, rice, salad, and 8" kunafa - the lamb seriously just fell off the bone, and all the meats were flavoured so well! We got to pick between the cheese or cream kunafa, and our server suggested the cheese kunafa and that was DELICIOUS! They also had an area in the restaurant where people could sit on the ground to eat and thought it was super cool! Can't wait to come back!

Fabulous ME food. Roasted lamb is so juicy and tender. Fahsa (roasted lamb with tomato sauces) so tasty. Deco of the restaurant is modern and chic. Definitely will come back!

Platter for two, extremely tender meat.

Per ChatGPT ... Saba Foods Yemeni Restaurant moved to its new location at 2881 Granville Street in Vancouver in the spring of 2024. They closed their original location at 509 Main Street on January 21, 2024, to prepare for the move.. My own notes: Never been to their Main Street location but the Granville location is nice. The old familiar Gianni's then West then now Saba. Yemeni traditional restaurant so no alcohol as expected. Very good service by the way, lots of street paid parking if you arrive just after 6 pm (3-6 pm no stopping on Granville's west side).. Probably one of the most tender meat I have eaten in my life.

First time trying Yemeni dishes tonight and was absolutely delighted and can't wait to come back. Enjoyed the time our friendly server took to explain the dishes and trying hard not to given away all the secret spices! My friend and I selected the Sana Platter for 2 which included the slow roasted lamb shoulder and half a mandi chicken, served with salad, rice and hot sauce. Additionally, pop or water and a warm traditional dessert was included. We came for the lamb but fell for the chicken. Both meats were so tender, moist and easily separated by a spoon. I understand later why a knife was not needed at the table. The rice was flavourful and was informed it was smoked by charcoal to get that intensity. For the Kunafa, we selected the classic cream cheese filling from the three filling choices. The baked shredded pastry dough was golden brown and crispy. The contrasting texture of the crispy pastry and warm cream cheese with a light hint of simple syrup was so heavenly with the milk tea. A must to experience this traditional Middle Eastern dessert. The baklavas are made fresh on site, I bought the Assorted Baklava to take home. Saba is clean and tables separated well for physical distancing. Food is excellent and service is attentive and friendly. I was told I needed to try the bbq chicken so looking forward to that

Yesterday I enjoyed one of the best meals I'd had in ages, at Saba Foods. I was poking around Google Maps looking for something new and interesting to eat. "Yemeni cuisine? And it's top-rated? I'm there." Business was slow on a 1:30pm Saturday during Ramadan, and one guy was running the whole front-of-house show, but the restaurant is beautiful inside with a nice relaxing vibe. They have a number of things on the menu, so I asked the friendly guy what is the ONE THING to try (always a good tactic at an unfamiliar restaurant, and it's a bad sign if they say "everything is good"). Without pause, he said "Do you like lamb? The Lamb Haneeth is the very best thing here." Me: "What's the difference between Haneeth and Mandi?" Him: "Just the spice blend. Haneeth is richier and a little spicier, especially good on the lamb. Mandi is milder and simpler, and I think it's a little better with the chicken." Say no more. Ten minutes later a huge steaming platter of basmati rice pilaf, tomato and cucumber salad with sumac, and a chunk of roast lamb the size of both of my fists together arrived at my table. By the aroma alone I could tell this was going to be epic. The lamb was perfectly seasoned. The Haneeth seasoning is earthy, very turmeric and cumin-forward, with lots of black pepper and after notes of cardamom and cinnamon. A tad like the spices in Lamb Biryani. But there was nothing dry and ricey about this. The lamb was succulent and juicy. The rice was buttery and rich and full of lovely slivered almonds and crispy fried onion and garlic bits. Their hot sauce was pleasant, mostly fresh tomato puree and chili peppers, but the lamb was so good it really didn't need anything like that. The prices are a little high, but the portion sizes are truly gigantic. The couple that arrived a little after I did ordered one portion of the lamb and an extra plate so they could split it between the two of them. I'm really looking forward to going back and trying the chicken and some of the other dishes. Or even better, I'll bring a bunch of friends and try one of the family platters, where you get a little of everything and the price-per-person isn't so imposing. They also seemed to do a booming business with their desserts. In particular several people wandered in just to buy a baklava platter or a cheese kunafa to take home. So I'm intrigued. This is top notch food. A lovely little gem in every way.

Nice Food. Only that we have to swim across a ton of homeless to reach there. The restaurant is clean and the service is great. Would have been 5 stars except the location.

Definitely try to go at opening or when it is not busy, as the dine-in experience is memorable - they place your order in a long wooden board to make it a beautiful spread. We got the Manoush'eh Special which has ground beef, pomegranate, etc and Sham Style which is shaped like a boat. We also tried the yogurt drink which pairs well with the dishes. The only con is that this place does not have free water, but it is no problem to have our own water bottles supplementing the meal. We also got the lentil soup which is pretty good. Definitely sufficient to share one to try, but the Manoush'eh outshines the rest of the items. I loved the quality and texture of the Manoush'eh and just the breads in general. It is a lot of food for 2 people so if you want a snack, you can definitely just share 1. Some people go here for the wraps too. Overall, an affordable restaurant with good food. We got the most expensive items and it was less than 50 CAD all-in, but a lot of the items are around the 10 CAD mark.

Let me start with the service because if the service isn't good, it's a wrap for me. No worries though because service was amazing. From the hostess stand to the bartender, top notch. Chris was our expert craft bartender. Not only was he knowledgeable, he was friendly. He kindly explained the menu and the associated cocktails. I wanted a caipirinha which was not on the menu but he made it for me and let me know what was comparable on the menu. My husband ordered the chapter II shots, which were a flight of cocktails from different regions (Bahamas, Spain, Philippines, and Chile) from around the world. I loved my caipirinha (9/10) and my husband enjoyed the flight (10/10). I also had the Tropicalia, which was a rum based drink with cachaca and tropical fruits. I asked Chris to balance it out so it wasn't overly sweet, which he gladly accommodated. It was good but I preferred the original caipirinha. I highly recommend Levantine if you're in the downtown Vancouver area.

The menu is inspired by the stories of One Thousand and One Nights. We tried one cocktail from each chapter and enjoyed both. Oasis is rum-based, refreshing, and not boozy at all. It comes with a huge ice cube, so the $25 cocktail lasts longer than expected. Spain is Campari-based, sweet with a slight tartness, and served with half a fresh passion fruit, which was a nice touch. We also ordered the edamame hummus. It was unique, and you could definitely taste the black pepper, which added a spicy kick. While it was tasty, I felt $25 was a bit overpriced for the portion.
