One of my top 10 places in the 518 to eat at. This place is AMAZING! They have great attentive service, delicious afghan food, and the cheapest prices I've seen around. You can literally feed two people under $20 as all of their entrees are under $10. I think there is a small eat in fee added to your end bill but regardless, for the price you are paying you are getting an excellent meal. The portions are the perfect size too, and they always give you three bottles of your own sauces (White, Red hot sauce, and green mint) so you can adjust your food to your liking which we all know how important that is! I usually get the chicken over rice, or the gyro over rice which both remind me of the Halal Guys New York City food stands. The only downside is that there isn't a parking lot so you have to find street parking in Central Ave which usually isn't too bad. Besides that, I would absolutely recommend this place for lunch, dinner, or even just a quick bite to eat. read more

My wife and I were downtown Albany looking for something light since we had a substantial dinner planned later. Parking was tricky as usual, so I just found a spot near where I knew there were several restaurants. As we walked up the street, we saw Afghan Kebab Express and decided to give it a go. Great choice! We were greeted and served by an extremely nice man who I believe was the owner. The place was clean and inviting. We ordered a falafel pita (nice fresh, soft pita and great falafel), badenjan (seasoned eggplant), and bolani (crisp pastry stuffed with potato and green onion). They came with 3 sauces: seasoned yogurt sauce, thin cilantro chutney, and a hot sauce. The food was excellent and just right to hold us over until dinner. I am a huge critic when it comes to Middle Eastern cuisine. I ordered the chicken platter. So fresh! The rice was perfectly made and plentiful. The chicken was shredded on top. I reveled when my husband found this place a year or 2 ago... I could finally get my halal chicken and rice fix without having to carry it on the bus from NYC for 2.5 hours! 4 stars in my book, mainly because I love this dish. We always takeout so I've never actually eaten at the restaurant. But our experiences have been solid. I always get the same thing: the chicken and rice and I'm never disappointed (there's just something about that combination of flavors... the "white stuff" maybe?) Be warned though- they include 2 sauces on the dish and they're both top secret recipes so you CANNOT get them on the side! (At least that's what they told my husband). One's a hot sauce, so make sure you ask for whatever modifications in advance but if you decide you don't want one of the sauces, it's all or nothing.. you can't to titrate to effect with these. read more

Excellent dinner last night. Lamb chop & chicken gyro are highly recommended. Atmosphere is relaxed, service was slow, but no complaints as the food was well cooked & served at the right temperature. I took a star because this place charges %15 when you want to sit down to eat which does not make sense at all. Also minumum credit card charge is $10 which is inconvenient. $6.99 for chicken over rice is acceptable, but Im still hungry. There are at least 4 unlimited Indian/Pakistani buffet nearby for $6.99 also. read more

I found here on Yelp and decided to give it a shot. I am really happy that decided to do so. I ordered koobideh. It came with some salad sides. The prices were very reasonable considering the food's quality. I previously had the same meal with either bad quality rice or the ones that made with not good quality meats. Being from jersey I used to go into the city and have chicken over rice on those drunk adventures and we honestly loved another place up in buffalo. So we looked this place up, it is in a very weird spot. The chicken over rice is very good and worth the 6-7 dollars. I really like this place. It's the best place for a delicious, cheap meal. We mostly order takeout, because my other half has to pass by there on the way home from work. I'm addicted to the chicken over rice and my other half loves the gyro over rice.
