Both my brother in law from Dubai and local brother had taken us to this authentic Afghani restaurant at two different times. The kebabs and pilafs are wow materiel with just the right combination of Afghan spices --easier on the sensitive tongue than typical Indian food. Pakistani food, nowadays, is slightly different, however, and worth trying---but their rice dishes in this place is wondrous and fragrant, tasty and nutritious. I'm not particularly keen on one youngster's mannerism as he had a bit of a terse attitude, and their decor could use some work--as spoiled as we are from famous Afghan cuisine in Texas and Illinois. So, a good place this is, for sure. 4 stars for now. May Allah bless their prayers area idea --that is noble of them. read more

Although their food is delicious, their online ordering is a nightmare. Their website links to an order placement website called Zing. My family placed a large order (total was nearly $90), but after my dad left to go pick it up, he got a text saying the order wasn't received, despite the fact that we had a confirmation number and a pending credit card charge for the amount of the purchase. When I called the restaurant, they told me they haven't used Zing for a year. The woman I spoke with on the phone was rude and kept cutting me off when I tried to talk. I asked her why there's still a prominent online ordering link on their website for a company that no longer places their orders, she just said "they have to take that down," as if it's somehow Zing's responsibility to upkeep the restaurant's own website. It has been a few years since I was in the area and stopped in, but I'm glad I did. Grabbed a lamb gyro for a quick lunch. Boom! Hit the spot. It was just as good as I had remembered. Unfortunately, I was on a time crunch and didn't snap a picture before I inhaled the food. I'll just say it is worth a stop if you are in the area. I'm a huge fan of the Afghan Kabob and Grill location in North Brunswick; some of the best Afghani food around!  This is my third time eating/picking up from the Hamilton location. The food here is just as tasty and good as their other location.  This time we ordered Chicken Tikka Kabob, Mediterranean Kabob, and Chicken Gyro Platter. All the entrees were generous in portion size and delicious. The Mediterranean Kabob and the Gyro Platter were the best! The Afghani Naan accompanying the entrees is freshly made and served warm. Their food is very flavorful and hearty, yet not heavy. The main difference between this location and the other is the interior.  I also feel service is more friendly in North Brunswick. This location is much smaller and has a bit more of a fast food, order at the counter type of feel.  The North Brunswick location is more spacious and a nicer dining environment.  I prefer the North Brunswick location for dining in, but as far as food quality goes both deliver solid Afghani meals! read more

OMG! Let's start there, not only was I happy for them that they survived 2020 where many other stores shuttered, it appears they are expanding. We have not been here for some time and while i remember the food being really good; that would turn out to be an understatement for our return visit. If you pass up a chance to eat here base your first impressions of its location and or interior I can say without hesitation you'll be missing out on something uniquely special. We had 3 lamb chop platters, chicken tika platter, and hummus with the best flat bread anywhere. Now I think the prices were a bit higher but we all only talked about how good the food was and looking forward to finishing our leftovers the next day ... if not for breakfast. I'm really torn having to write this review as I really don't want anyone getting in the way the next time I want to visit. read more

My wife and I weren't sure what to eat recently, so we decided to pick up some dinner from Afghan Kabob and Grill. I'm not an expert on Afghan food (maybe my first time ever eating Afghan cuisine, if I'm being honest!) but I was definitely happy with my meal. I got the chicken tikka masala for myself. I've had this dish plenty of times, but it's always come from Indian restaurants. I think I was subconsciously expecting it to look similar to those previous experiences, but there were some interesting differences. The Afghan naan was more like bread than the Indian naan I'm used to, but it was absolutely delicious when dipped in the masala. The Afghan rice was also tasty, but what really piqued my curiosity was the actual curry. After adding some of the yogurt (served on the side), it was kind of similar to an Indian chicken masala, but there were some different flavors as well. Hard to describe, but definitely worth trying. Overall, I can definitely imagine us hitting up Afghan Kabob and Grill again. read more

In what could be the best culinary convergence in my recent memory (LOL), Afghan Kabob and Grill now offers a weekday lunch buffet! Service starts at 12:00PM and ends at 3:00PM, so naturally I get there at 11:45AM to ensure the freshest batch of food. The buffet selection included some of my favorites (actually most of the menu constitute my favorites LOL). Note that I was told they have different dishes on different days. Appetizers: 1. Banjan Dip: Delicious as usual; the eggplant was smokey with a perfect texture for dipping. 2. Cholay: Stewed chickpeas were yummy, but I think you can fill your stomach with better options like........ 3. Hummus: One of my favorites at Afghan Kabob and Grill, just this time all I can eat! Main dishes: 1. Bolani Banjan: So delicious; this is how you do vegetarian food. Exotically spiced, nice chunky texture, and stewed in a delicious gravy/sauce; all you have to do is pour over rice, add a good dose of white sauce, and enjoy! 2. Chicken Chapli: So good. The patties were very moist, seasoned perfectly with just the right amount of heat, and a nice sear with charcoal flavor. 3. Chicken Tikka: Nicely sized pieces of juicy chicken that were juicy with plenty of flavor. Sides: 1. Afghan naan bread: The always excellent Afghan naan was just as expected; fresh, warm, and hearty. 2. Afghan pulao: More than just a filler, the long grained Afghan rice with carrots and raisins is best with a good amount of white sauce drizzled on top with a bit of the green sauce for contrast. 3. Afghan green tea: A great palette cleanser and really settled our stomachs for more Afghan food. 4. Sauces: Yes the always addictive white sauce is available at the buffet, as well as the herbaceous green sauce. Come hungry for the buffet and leave happily full! read more

Tried the leftovers from here cousin in law brought over the one family party where we ate his leftovers lol. The green and white sauce both really good and necessary. Me and my cousin went here and he was like the rice is so good. But not so. The rice is bland. We had it before with the sauces which made it good. Without the sauce it's bland but can season to taste or add the sauce His kids got the shrimp platter which I didn't try I got the lamb gyro platter since that was the recommendation when I asked the cook what to get. The lamb chop my cousin got was good but so was the lamb gyro. Some items they are great at, and some are just OK. I'd advise sticking with anything that's on the Afghan side than going for American type foods. Their lamb gyro platter is pretty good and worth the trip back. read more

This is a hidden gem in south Jersey that I did not know of! We went here after jummah one day and enjoyed th vast food options. We started off with the samosa chat, which was perfection. The spice level was low so even my toddler was able to enjoy (which for mother's is the best). Next we had Buffalo wings, I wasn't crazy about them. But the kids enjoyed them! I ordered the chicken tikka kabab entree & my husband got the malai boti. Both Tikkas were really flavorful- esp the Malai boti! We also enjoyed the sauces! Can't wait to come back again. My wife and I are addicted to lamb over rice / gyro platters from any cuisine. So, since moving to the area a little less than a year ago, we've been trying out all of the restaurants that offer them to find our favorites. If you don't want to read the full review, I'll just say that this place is in my top two. Afghan isn't a cuisine I've really explored, but after eating here I know I need to. You can't go wrong with any of their gyro platters. The seasoning is unique and brings the dishes to a whole new level, from the white sauce to the meat itself. Even the rice has a cinnamon flavor that really elevates it - something you don't find in a lot of platters, at least in my experience. Prices are fair, too. Highly recommend. read more

Ground beef kabob is not good . No flavor at all to the meat. I guess you get what you pay (around $13). For someone who is used to eating ground Kabob at the Persian Grill @ Lafayette Hill PA, these guys are a total disappointment . I highly recommend you try kabobs at the Persian grill . I come here with my fam occasionally. There's always seating available even though it's a small place, I think most people usually just order to go. It does tend to get kinda smoky at times because they're grilling literally right in front of you. I noticed the seats are almost always sticky and that's probably because there isn't enough ventilation. But overall the decorations and interior design is nice. They have a small prayer area which is honestly so great, very few restaurants would even bother doing that. Food is pretty good! My personal favorites include the cheesesteak and chapli kabob platter. Their hot wings and buffalo wings are great as well. Naan (bread) is usually a hit or miss, but the rice is always cooked well. I've been coming here for years now and the quality of food has remained consistent throughout! Definitely worth trying :) read more

After a very long time, I finally got to eat some very tasty halal kababs and steaks. Usually when I visit afghan food places, the taste is usually too bland, and I do not blame them because people in the US are not used to the real taste of afghan food and think this is the usual taste. I would highly highly recommend this place if you wanna taste the real afghan taste. They have what I would say the real taste of kabobs. So, I ordered lamb kabobs with rice, lamb gyro and philly cheese steak. I was in the mood of light dinner that night, which is why I ordered gyro, but when I tasted my mother's lamb kabobs, I was blown away. They were super tasty! My mother was double minded because she is the type of person who is very picky about eating lamb everywhere because she thinks they have a weird smell if it remains undercooked, but the guy who was cooking assured her that this would be one of the best she had eaten before, and it turned out to be true! The lamb kabobs were served with rice and naan, and were soft, moist, well cooked and tasty. My Philly cheese steak and lamb gyro were really good too, but kabobs were the best, and I would definitely go there again! The seating place is okayish. This was the branch in Hamilton township and it's not very crowded here usually, but I was surprised at the amount of people with families visiting the restaurant on a weekday. read more

This place is amazing. The food is so fresh and you get a bang for your buck. I've been here on numerous occasions before I go to work. I like to sit down and eat my meal peacefully. The dishes I've had so far is the grilled chicken salad, lamb, cheesesteak, hummus and eggplant dip. I think that's the name. This eggplant dip is so good and so is the hummus. Yay! I'm a fan indeed. I always very much enjoy my meals from Afghan Kabob and Grill. Unfortunately, the A/C rarely does enough to fight off the summer heat inside, so in the warmer months I ALWAYS take my dishes to go. Small sacrifice for the quality meals I consistently get. While I have explored much of the menu, I find myself coming back time and time again to the Nargisi Kofta. Imagine mom's meatloaf (complete with the hardboiled egg inside!), but with a delicious homemade red curry sauce in place of whatever tomato or ketchup based concoction you grew up with. It's nota perfect comparison, but it's the best that I can come up with. After devouring that, I wipe up the sauce with the delicious fresh made naan that accompanies each meal, and I am satisfied 100% of the time. Other favorites include the lamb curry (when available), the chicken rashida and the bolani banjan. I would be remiss if I did not mention that every entree comes with the most amazing rice with carrots and raisins that I have ever had. I'm not even terribly fond of rice and I can't enough of this stuff! The icing on the cake is the owner, who is an incredibly friendly and kind man, who clearly takes pride in sharing and explaining his native cuisine to those who are unfamiliar with it. So, drop in, ask for suggestions, and enjoy something new! Just be sure to be dressed for the weather or take it to go! read more

my boyfriend has been begging me to come and try this place for a solid six months now because it is one of his favorite places to grab a quick bite of food. I should have listened to him, he's not that excited about food ever, and this he can't stop talking about. we both ordered the lamb gyro platter for our meals, and we shared hummus as an appetizer, oh my word, it was all really good...but I have to say this was some of the best hummus I have ever had. My lamb gyro platter was absolutely the best I've ever had. There were two sauces on our table, a white (cool) and a green (little spicy), but you really didn't need them, the rice and meat were seasoned well. there was also a small bit of salad on the plate as well which was fresh and crispy (not limp and warm)... the pitas that came with the hummus were really good too. ~ Pandemic DoorDash Review ~ The DoorDash variable may impact my reviews of late, though it's hard to know. I had a hankering for kabobs, but my go-to Aryana Kabab and Grill was closed that night. I had visited Afghan Kabob about 10 year ago and had a lackluster experience, but I thought it might be time to give it another shot. I do not have a vast experience with Afghani food, though I used to go to a nice Afghani place in Center City Philly (Kabul on Chestnut Street) with coworkers some years back, and loved the experience - the tapestries and cushions and colors - as well as the textures and exotic flavors of the food. And, as mentioned above, I love Aryana Kabab, though it's more casual than the place in Philly I visited many years ago. Afghan Kabob, is out of place in the line-up of my (limited) experience with Afghani food, though perhaps I am not ordering the best they have to offer. However, some go-to items, like the samosa and bolani, are just disappointing. I love appetizers best of all, and really wish the samosa, in particular, had more flavor that I've come to expect. The bolani was super greasy. And, inexplicably, the apps arrived with what seemed to be a small cup of ranch dressing, instead of the spicy cilantro chutney, or the tamarind sauces I've come to expect. I was so surprised to see the ranch, and at first had hoped it was something akin to tzatziki (yogurt, cucumbers, dill), bit it was definitely not; I know that some restaurants serve a mayonnaise based Halal sauce, but I'm pretty sure I received ranch. I ordered tikka masala, and it was definitely decent, but not nearly as good as the tikka from the Indian restaurants - it was a little one dimensional, and the sauce not as rich. I know this is subjective, but I was not partial to this establishment's bread, either. It seemed to be a wheat flour based bread, and thicker and spongier than other naan I've had in the past. I know wheat bread is healthier, but really, when you're dipping it in a buttery sauce, any health effects are lost. It was a dour piece of loaf that tasted of unnecessary deprivation. If, in the future, I find myself at this restaurant again, I might branch out and get something completely different. But I won't go out of my way to go there intentionally. If I want tikka, I'll order from an Indian restaurant. And for kebabs and appetizers, I'll just wait for a night that Aryana is open. read more

This would be my third time here and my first time writing a review for them. I had a hankering for grilled meat and remembered this place so we drove here to get our meal on. I ordered the grilled lamb tikka kabob platter with a chicken samosa, not bad for about $14! Not a bad deal. I told her it was for dine in and we took a booth. A few minutes later she brought out a little side salad for each of us. Totally unexpected but definitely a welcome bonus in my mind. The salad was a good start. I added the white sauce which tasted a little like a ranch dressings no it goes the trick. The chicken samosa is triangular and deep fried, a little different than what I expected but again this is an Afghan restaurant and not an Indian restaurant. A little greasy and I probably won't order this again nor will I recommend this. But on to my main course, that lamb tikka kabob is the DA BOMB!!! It was flavorful and with the green and white sauce on top...it is amazing! I did pass on the rice since I was trying to reduce my carb intake. But eventually I gave in and tried a spoonful or two, the rice with the carrot and raisin was also very good! They also served pita with the platter which was nice and warm! Being a bit of a fatty, I also took a piece of my partner chicken kabob. It was so tender and good! I will definitely return! And definitely recommend this place. Don't expect anything fancy, it's very causal setting with friendly and attentive staff. What makes it great to me is that it appears that many of the Afghan community and their family also dine here. read more
