My husband and I visited the afghan market this afternoon. We purchased baklava and few other things. I asked the owner a lady "does the baklava fresh? She told me they were so good that she even orders helsef for her family gathering. Well I thought great!! What a disappointment moment when we ate it. The worse baklava we ever eaten. She wasn't honest she just wanted to get rid of the left backaba that was in the tray. Don't waisted your money baying the soggy, old, taste backlava please! read more

We came for the Bulgarian Cheese. It's an odd thing to specifically be looking for but here's the story. My 6 year old was cared for by a Persian woman who fed her very eclectic foods for pretty much her entire life, so far. She is mad for this certain kind of goat cheese. What's a mom to do when your 6 year old wants Bulgarian Goat Cheese?! So the babysitter told us which store to go to get the coveted cheese. We gleefully headed down to Monument to acquire the coveted cheese. They had it sure enough and she was very excited. She also likes this really thin seeded flatbread to go with it but unfortunately they do not have it. The man working behind the counter told us to go to the bakery located up the street. Thankfully she is fine with sourdough bread to spread her lovely Goat Cheese on. She puts some sliced avocado, lime juice and tomato. Yes, my 6 year old does this delicacy all the time. We like walking around and looking at the other various things that you can pick up in need. Service is so incredibly friendly to us as well. Its usually a special exciting trip to come in and get our cheese. read more

Afghan Market is hidden in plain sight amongst a bevy of Mexican businesses who are selling money orders, burritos, horchatas mexican clothes, aqua fresca, dancing lessons, mangonadas, etc. Afghan selling halal meats(no beef), breads, baked goods, candies, , frozen entrees, spices, entree mixes, cooking utensils, clothes, beverages. buys: amazon tea (1) -only beverage that doesn't have a lot of sugar or fats. -other items had too much bread, starch, sugar, oil. fat , or i didn't know now to cook them (yet). -manager was pretty cool. -how when to go if i needed something here. read more

Watch out for the price and itemised list. They are overcharging and says sorry we didn't know. They have charged me extra and they also charged me with not putting the item in bag. Despite overcharging, they are rude and disrespectful as well. They are selling Costco meat instead of local halal meat. They act like they do a big favour to you. I wouldn't recommend them at all. They are unprofessional. Prices are too high than other local store. A dish was 120$, while I got that for 69$ from other local store. Their rice is 70, while it's 58 in international store. read more

Since changing owners quality of their bakery products (bolani) has been declining and has deteriorated to the point that the bolani is not fully cooked, dry and lacking taste as when the previous owner was running the store. Further they have increased prices and quality gone down. On providing feedback to the store the person at the register does not care. we have been buying bolani from the store since 5 years but will not buy from anymore unless they improve the quality And care for customers. read more

They offer some good products. The location is convenient. Prices are very reasonable. But the atmosphere of the store is not inspiring. Customer service is haphazard. People will cut in front of you simply because they know the clerks and because they speak the local language. That's simply not acceptable. The parking lot is dangerous as well, with people driving like crazy there. read more

I was hoping this place would be a little bigger. The aisles were small and hard to walk through and the shelves were a little disorganized. But where they lacked in visual aesthetics, at least the man working tried to make for with helpful assistance. He had a very heavy accent though so it was more of a smile-and-nod I game I played with him. I picked up a box of powdered mix that you add water to in order to make tahini hummus. I told the employee I'd made hummus before with canned beans and asked if the box was as good. He explained to me what hummus was (my question was lost in translation) but then he was able to show me to where a can of pre-made chick pea dip was so I went with that. I also bought a can of grape leaf dolmas and a package of hot and sour veggie soup. My total was $5.83 - not a bad deal! read more

I just want to say this place is a hidden gem. The owners are very friendly and helpful. I bought an AMAzing pressure cooker from there and got such an excellent price. They have wonderful fresh baked bread daily. And it warms up great in the oven for a couple minutes. And probably toaster too cause it's nice and flat but soft and light and fresh without anything artificial. And they have Fresh (HALAL) Meats and I mean fresh. I ordered a whole chicken (which is also priced just right) and the guy asked me how I would like it cut exactly (love that!) and then I watched him cut me 8 pieces (perfect). That chicken was sooo fresh omg. I put it in the fridge with every intention to cook it the next day but I had many distractions and things came up, we ate out... and almost a week later I decide I better cook that chicken in the fridge. And would you believe that damn chicken was Still Fresh without any smell whatsoever (the way it should be) and omg my family loved the fresh tender meat. As long as they're around I will continue to buy meat when I do cook. They really have excellent customer service! I only know how to cook two afghan dishes but I'd love to learn more. They eat so clean and fresh and healthy with delicious spices. If you're against animal cruelty and inhumane slaughtering but still eat meat. Love to thank GOD for your food. Care about your health and your families health you'll eat HALAL meats and support small business like this who's offering healthier alternatives than just the so called "organic / grass fed" meats. I'll probably never buy meat at major grocery stores ever again. read more

I dont appreciate constant price shifting and packaging changes. Even if you get a reciept each time. Unreasonable and rude peoples. Dont understand customers and the relationship. This is the only place I go to for all of my Middle East cooking. I believe it is family owned, although I'm not sure. They are really helpful, friendly, and really good-looking. Must be in the genes or the food. Haha. Anyways, they give you free samples of the Bolani...which of course makes you want to take some home. It's great! This is my go- to place whenever I have a yearning for the huge flat crispy breads which they call naan. They are probably 3 -4 ft in length! I always get the whole wheat with sesame seeds. I am just so fortunate that I get the warm bread straight from the oven. So fresh! They also sell the day old breads for a $1 I think; however, the fresh bread is always recommended! Buyer Beware! I stopped by this morning to purchase some organic chicken. After I brought the bag home, I realized it may not be organic because organic chicken tends to be smaller in size. I went to the store to inquire, they claimed it was organic. At first they refused to allow me to go in the back to check the box, eventually he gave in. Upon review, the box did not say "organic" at all. Apparently if you ask for organic chicken, they give you the same chicken at the higher price. Very rude, disrespectful customer service. I agree with everyone else! Afghan Market is excellent! I usually go there to get my fill of break, they have two delicious stuffed breads: one is green onions and the other is stuffed with spicy potatoes. Needless to say, these 'iron board' breads are the best for snacking (though, do watch out, you can't stop eating them! I recommend putting them in the oven for a bit to get a little crispy and warm ^w^ ). The owners are extremely sweet, I usually end up getting helped by a woman who always asks if I'm Middle Eastern (which I'm not, but it might be the Spanish Moor blood in me...) and giving me free samples (and then I end up buying everything she stuffs into my face! :O ). It's a small shop, but they do have a nice variety of things, I even found the same Turkish cheese brand that I had in Germany! I do like it there, and I always feel welcomed, so don't be shy to ask whoever is at the counter what something is in case you don't know, most likely you'll get a sample or a very good description! :D read more

I was visiting the area and found Afghan Market by chance. I'm so glad I did. The staff was very kind and helpful. The products offered were unique and like no other place. I was especially happy to find Turkish Coffee. I highly recommend this as a unique and special cultural experience right by the City by the Bay. :-) I will definitely be back. read more

I gave this market a 1 star because how they are trying to mislead the Halal customers. To all those who thinks this or any other markets are Halal out there, I can assure you that it's not Halal Those who wants to be Halal conscious should try to avoid such markets and look for Certified Halal such as Hfsaa certified. Markets with such certification are qualified to sell Halal meet while others just claim it and we are suppose to take their word for it read more
