As much as I want to write positive review , and promote this store, unfortunately after few visits and many expired product I have purchased , I cannot. i usually go to Babushka but recently I decided to check out this store and completely disregarded some of the reviews here. I bought red caviar and many other products that end up being expired long time ago yet was still sitting on the shelf. you may say that I should have looked at the date, but as a Cali resident for close to 30 yrs I am not used to doing that as I expect store to monitor their product expiration date. caviar had really strong fishy smell and I end up throwing away the whole thing ($50+) and now opens this box of candy and realized that something does not look very good. SUMMARY Great little Russian and Lithuanian grocery market right next door to our favorite Indian/Nepalese restaurant (Momo N Curry) on Clayton Blvd in the unofficially named Dunkin' Donuts plaza. Though the selection is not as deep as Ted's Delikatessen on Monument, this location is 100% safer and has all the requisite speciality Eastern European deli items needed to make a great sandwich. BACKGROUND I've been yet again nagging the wife to drop into this place as I saw that the name changed and they added a display case full of cakes and pastries. That's all it took, so we went in. THE STORE Arbat is a very meticulously clean little grocery shop with a dry foods aisle and fresh and frozen freezer cases that ring the outer portion of the interior of the shop. You'll find drinks, frozen treats, frozen and fresh food, etc. Of note, they have some great cakes and pastries in the front deli case. Definitely what got us to peek in. DELI ITEMS Like I mentioned in the summary, their selection is not as deep with the deli items as Ted's on Monument, but they do have some great stuff. We've purchased two kinds of pork deli meats so far and we really like one of them. The smoked pork though is a wee bit too salty so we only put in one slice and triple up on the other (name escapes me). They have a few huge blocks of Lithuanian cheeses, which were new to us. There's one in green packaging which is mild in flavor sort of like a Muenster, which is now our favorite cheese. One of the things I also bought for my wife whose new to true Eastern European sandwiches is black bread. They have this phenomenal black rye bread in green packaging (see my pictures), which is NOT sliced. Oddly, I like non sliced bread because you can always count on the uncut portion to be fresh after you cut it and I like slicing my bread thinner than most people I think are used to. My wife is in love with this black bread, so much in fact that she at about 90% of the loaf within 5 days! They also have non Russian and Lithuanian items too. We saw some food that my Jewish bretheren would eat (Kefir, lox, etc.) and also an Armenian roll cake which we enjoyed alot for dessert with coffee. Unfortunately they don't sell any alcohol :( SERVICE Irene is the name of the store owner and she's a really nice lady. Doesn't rush us, explains everything, gives us samples when we're not sure, etc. etc. RETURN VISIT? Yup, 3 times within a month already. Arbat was a chance look/see. deli mentioned on window. disappointed to find no sammies sold, just deli meats. no ready to eat food available, just whole cakes. noticed mama's pierogies. tempted to buy. passed as no chance it would made it home still frozen. offerings: Eastern European, Russian ... gourmet foods.. eats: "Arctica" Lithuanian vanilla ice milk bar(1.69) -just 170 calories, less than a dunkin donut! -was sweet tasting. less calories than a nestle "drumstick" ingredient list not as long. still has some food enhancers, persevatives. leftovers: "you can't always get what you can want. ...yet what you need" -rolling stones 3.5 stars: good place to find eastern european ...foods. read more

This store is now under NEW OWNERSHIP!!! Will soon be called ARBATA. Came here today to buy some groceries. New owners are very friendly, accommodating, and eager to serve and make you happy. So wonderful to be greeted by such friendly faces. I bought some groceries for the house, got pelmeni from the freezer, vareniki, asked to have some kalbasa cut. The store is clean and organized. Tons of FRESH ingredients. The kalbasa was cut nice and thin the way I like it and fresh to eat. Yum Great job ! Keep it up! The shop is very clean and well-organized. I do not know how to read Cyrillic language, and it was still very easy to find my items. The items are arranged in a way which makes it clear what everything is. The shopkeeper is very friendly and helpful. I asked for some suggestions about the borscht and she was happy to recommend to me how to prepare the soup (add broth and potatoes). I bought rye bread, and it is delicious and tastes fresh. It is my new favorite bread. The other items are pictured. The prices are reasonable, and I feel happy to shop at a locally owned business, rather than an 'international aisle' at a big-name grocery store. Went to the shop a few weeks ago and purchased a few items. The guy didn't give me the receipt showing all the items. I went back asking him to double check the price after finding what they charged was too high. He told me he double-charged one item. Not sure if he did this consciously or unconsciously although he apologized for what he did. The reason I am suspicious if he did it consciously was because he didn't give me the receipt. read more

Today, October 16th, this store lost permanently at least one of its loyal customers. It always been a very clean place with very nice intelligent lady who served there as a store manager/cashier. It was until today.... Some young lady with pretty bad manners has been there on the afternoon shift today, close to 7pm. No hello, no help and pretty rude behavior during packaging, I've canceled my shopping, tried to ask young lady her name for reference, she refused to provide it to me. Anyway, I really felt like I'm on New Arbat in the middle of 90's. Thanks for refreshing my memory, no Russian store again, at least no New Arbat. read more

I came to work next door and the owner of this business acted very bad with me, He asked me to move my working vehicle away from the parking space next to his business he was so rude and disrespectful that's ilegal because it's not private parking. read more

This is a new European Deli/Market. They have fresh Rye bread that is amazing, they are very friendly. When they slice your meats the gentleman handling the task is careful on how he lays the slices in the paper. They take great pride in there sheets service and foods.
