When you're in the San Diego Safari Park walking around, and need to sit and relax, try getting on the Africa Tram! It was our life saver!!! ;) It's one of those big buses! You'll be on a 2.5 mile guided tour to see the animals at the Savanna area. It's a huge natural open air habitat. It's a great way to learn more about the animals. This is a free ride that's included with the purchase of your Safari entry ticket. Take advantage of it! The lines for this ride can look overwhelming. It does move quickly. There's more than one bus! We took advantage of the bathroom before waiting in line. Then we had our snacks while waiting. Before you know it, it's an adventure ride time!!! read more

Accessibility: the line to get here is long, but there are built-in seats you can sit on while in line (see photos). The tram has a disabled section with a wider aisleway and seats than the other seats, but I'm not sure if there is a ramp to get up to tram, or if the tram lowers, but I think so. Experience: this was the best part of the park, but still, I would recommend the drivers actually STOP and let you LOOK at the animals longer. Seemed like they gassed it all the way through the tour. It was hard to steady my hand and get a good photo. I took about 50 photos, and about 25-30 came out clear. They also need to tell people when buying tickets that you have to be in line here BEFORE 4 pm because they no longer let you ride this after 4. read more

This is included in your general admission. You'll need to take an elevator or stairs to the tram level. Keep asking the volunteers where the tram is located at every "intersection " and "shortest" path. Once you find the tram, the line can be VERY long. We got in line at 1pm and didn't get on the tram until 2:3pm (on a Wednesday). The driver/guide was great at providing information about the park and animals. read more

This tram ride comes with your regular admission. It's nice if you walk the rest of the park first and finish with this so you can give your feet a rest while still seeing the animals. There are multiple trams so you don't have to wait very long. Due to the pandemic, they generally seat groups or couples to isolated rows. A lot of the viewing tends to be on the left side of the cars but there are things to see on both sides. A wonderful experience for everyone! read more

When you initially arrive you will be greeted by a photographer to take a green screen photo. After that you will wait in a line to make your way on a tram. The tram ride is about 30 minutes long. I highly recommend sitting on the left side of the tram. Yes they have animals on both sides of the tram. However the large savanna is located on the left. That was my favorite part! I don't plan on ever going on a real safari so this is as close as it's going to get. I know the line is ridiculous, but if it doesn't look too bad you should give it a go, especially if it's your first time. The ride is about 20-30 minutes and if you're lucky enough to get a good driver, you will learn some things you never knew. I mostly go to see the animals and the view. I try to ride the tram every time that I hit the Safari Park, it is a great way to see the wild animals interacting. Trams usually take off at 10 am and the drivers do their best to stop frequently to tell you some fun factoids about the animals presenting themselves. Cubs are born almost every day which means the animals just might be busy getting wild making these little cuties. The mission of this park is breeding after all! it starts near the Balloon Safari and makes a loop around the wild animal enclosure. You will see antelopes, zebras, giraffes, lions, cheetahs, vultures, rhinoceros', zebra, water buffalo, flamingos and many many more animals. Peak tram hours run from 11-3 and sometimes there is no line at all. Other times not so much. This is one of the premier attractions at the Safari park! read more

The Wgasa Bush Line.. we will never forget.. So anyone that has lived in San Diego for over ten years knows about the retired "Wgasa Bush Line" monorail. WGASA - Who Gives a Shit Anyway. The Zoological society said it was too expensive to run an electric monorail so now they run a tram with wheels and cut about 40% off the original route. They also now charge non-members and people that did not buy full price tickets $7 to ride... Is it worth it? Luck/Unlucky for you the park raises ticket prices to include the $7 charge they use to sell separately. So you've paid for the admission already so why not take advantage. For those of you that got free tickets or discounted tickets you're still going to have to buy your own ticket to the tram. I'd say not worth it.. - They force you to have your picture taken by a third party vendor. - Sitting on the left side of the tram is your best viewing position. - Go early, Go late, or Go on the weekdays... read more

If there's no wait the tram ride is totally worth it. If you're in line for more than 15-20 minutes I think you would be very disappointed. If you can get an end seat on the driver's side you will have the best views during the ride. We went during lunchtime and it looked like most of the animals weren't very active. We were able to see some youngins roaming around though. There was a lady in front of me recently who decided to take a call. It was super annoying. I could not hear the driver's commentary during the ride. As a courtesy to others please don't talk on the phone or bust out your selfie sticks on the tram. You can also purchase a photo souvenir after the conclusion of your tram ride. Right before you get in line they snap a photo of you and they are ready for pick up when you exit the attraction. read more

When there isn't a long line this attraction is well worth the visit. It is a trek from the main entrance though. The photo opportunities and the wildlife are one of a kind. Try to get a window seat for the best views. The voyage in itself is about a 20 minute tour filled with lots of information. If you're only here for the day you may need to ride it two or three times to take it all in. If you have an annual pass, just sit back and enjoy the ride. There are a few TV monitors that should be displaying some sort of message as you wait in line as well as mist fans but both were not on today. Be sure to use the restroom beforehand as re is nowhere for you to go when on the trip lol. I'll be back for sure. I got a groupon deal to get on the African Tram with my ticket and it was totally worth it. The line wasn't too long and even if it is, it goes by pretty fast. We were able to see giraffes, hippos, rhnos, lions, and tigers pretty easily and it was beautiful to see them just in their habitats. Also, no need to push a stroller around with two kids? Score! We were sitting and enjoying the breeze while we're looking at animals. I think it's worth it to spend the extra money if you have small children. read more

The Africa tram takes you around in a little train around a big open area of the park where you can see animals in their habitat. I would suggest taking it early as there won't be long lines and it will give you more time to see the other parts of the park and shows. The best seating is the one on the driver's side as most of the animals are within the inner circle. You can see giraffes, birds, and antelopes. The ride takes around 45 minutes. You get amazing views of the landscapes and mountains. The animals are seen far away so take a good camera with zoom for the best pictures. It's worth the ride to take to see animals out in the open. read more

It's nice to see a tour where the humans are more contained than the animals. The Safari zoo has set aside many acres to create a landscape where many herbivores coexist together across an African-esque plain. The animals in the larg enclosure have the ability to roam and intermingle with each other while a tram roams gently along the outside perimeter for viewers to peer in. The guides are usually funny and lively with plenty of facts to take away from the experience. I enjoyed my ride here today. I loved seeing the small herd of giraffes frolick together while a black rhino munched on the grass. There was a lot of adorable gizelles, wilderbeasts, and deer that also enjoyed the grazing to be had. The non-rushed style to the tram ride and its speaker made me relaxed and let me take in the animals comfortably. I would recommend this ride, especially for those with kids. It is, however, quite a trek to get to, so it might be hard for some with disabilities to reach easily. read more

They need to switch to electric-powered cars in their safari tram - it is hypocritical to talk about wildlife conservation while burning non-renewable fossil fuels, that also smell intolerably. They should also limit the number small children on the tram, since they cry loudly and prevent others from hearing what the tour guide is saying. Other than these complaints, this is the best part of the Wild Animal Park (I refuse the call it the Safari Park) which gives you the opportunity to look at many animals in the "wild".
