For the meals I tried jerk chicken with yellow rice and also spinach stew with jollof rice. I also got plantains. The plantains was good, and I really enjoyed the jerk chicken. The rice was just ok, and the spinach stew was heavy on the spinach and light on the meat. I was less impressed with this dish but it wasn't bad at all. I'd just get the jerk chicken if I go back. The one employee who doubled as cashier and cook was very nice and that helped. The place is small and carry out only. King fish meal with fricassee sauce, yellow rice, greens and plantain, sorrel and cassava leaf stew. Oxtail tasted like only cooked in salt water. Not salty but no flavor, Caribbean nor African. Mostly tender but bland. No jollof rice although I paid extra. King fish dry as the Sahara and the fricassee, not sure what you tube taught them. As a Jamaican, ketchup only would have been better. Plantains were good, 4 pieces per plate. Greens were so-so with just salt for seasoning. Called the restaurant directly to inquire about up charging me for jollof rice but sending yellow rice. The place does not serve the egusi soup so I replaced that with curry goat which was very good.

I was actually trying to get some clam chowder soup from next door at S&S Seafood next and they ran out so I tried this place. Now I ordered the Ox tails and Curry Goat combo. They give you a lot of food. The oxtail were really tender. The curry goat was not. They needed about another hour of cooking. I also got a side of cassava leaves. Based on the number of times I've been here, I really need to give their food full points. I can't vouch for authenticity of either Caribbean or African food, but I can tell you that the food is great. The service is decent, has definitely improved, but I think since it's a small business, they have few employees and it can sometimes be slow. But everyone is really nice and courteous. We always get the curry chicken and jerk chicken meals. We get the jollof rice and it also comes with plantains (like 2 or 3 max...) and sweet greens. The rice has a slightly sticky texture and looks peppery but it's a little savory without spiciness. The plantains are awesome-- the edges are always slightly crispy to perfection so you get a slight crunch and it's never dry. I thought i wouldn't like the greens but they're also great: cabbage cooked very well without bitterness, with sugar or something added to give a slight sweet flavor. The chicken...falls off the bone...melts in your mouth. I'm not a huge fan of bone pieces but I'll deal with it. I can see why people might say it's bland, because the curry isn't spicy at all...but it still has allot of flavor. The jerk chicken is a little spicier but also could be worse. My biggest complaint is that they always run out of chicken patties. These are pastries filled with curried ground meat (spicy or not spicy). They are yummy!! They also run out of plantains every once in awhile. Overall... I think I need to venture into other things on the menu. Next time I vow to do it. read more

Overall pleasant experience. I came here at dinner time, and first off I think it's best to come here when they are the busiest which I'm assuming would be around lunch time? I ordered jerk chicken, jollof rice with mixed greens, plantains and a beef patty. The flavor of everything was good! 10/10 for authentic taste. However, the beef patty was very bready and actually dry. It was like it had been sitting in the warmer for at least 3-4 hours, but I'm sure it would've been great if fresh! Also, the jerk chicken was dry too-but it definitely didn't stop it from being delicious. Since this is right off 210, I come here often to pick up dinner. Their curried shrimp and curried goat are really good. The curry sauce is just so good so when in doubt I always choose that. Their oxtail is pretty good but sometimes tiny pieces and but either way the flavor is good. read more

Just a warning for vegetarians & vegans: The spinach stew is cooked with chicken. I called & ordered "vegetarian" spinach stew only to find two large pieces of chicken in the 2 meals. I returned it & was given 2 new meals & then I found chicken in that second "corrected" order. I had to return for a 3rd time with an upset stomach due to accidentally eating a shred of chicken. The staff was pleasant but weren't very apologetic about the mistake. I was not told until I asked, on this 3rd return visit, that the spinach stew was made with chicken. They accommodated by making new plates with veggie stew that I waited to be prepared. I would suggest that this restaurant create a Vegetarian/Vegan menu to avoid this confusion in the future. Visiting a friend from NJ and saw this restaurant after leaving the Chinese restaurant the day before, so decided to give it a try the following day. What a waste and such a disappointment. The rice and peas also very bland and barely flavorful as if they drowned it to purposely kill any flavor it may have had. I tasted my friends jerk chicken and there was nothing special about it, you can tell it wasn't properly marinated just jerk sauce (more than likely Grace's) laid on top of it and the chicken barely if at all seasoned. Great little place; I had the curry goat with jollof rice, mixed greens, and plaintains, and everything was delicious. The only less than perfect thing with the goat was that there are (sometimes quite small) little pieces of bone throughout, so you have to pick them out as you eat (sometimes after you've taken the bite!) but the flavor is great and the portions are hearty; I ate half for dinner and the rest for lunch the next day, which made it around $6 a meal. read more
