I found Naija cafe online after searching for authentic jollof in the area. My fiancée and I were really excited to try their food today. We arrived and walked in to a man sweeping and a woman at the bar.. They stared us up and down as we walked to the register. The man sweeping then walked behind the bar into the back. It was a very awkward interaction. We were immediately turned off. As we walked out the lady then asked us where we were going.. As another review said it is hard to tell if they are open unless you are at the door. It is also very dark inside.

One of my good friends made some Egusi for me but forgot to bring me Fufu to go with it. I explained that there was an African(Nigerian) restaurant near my house that I believe sold it and that would be a good reason for me to finally "try" them out. After reading reviews, I called first to see if the Fufu was available. When I called the phone was answered immediately and pleasantly. I was asked how many were needed and that I could pick it up at my leisure. Upon arrival I was greeted immediately. There was music playing and the food cooking in the back smelled amazing! She returned with my Fufu, quickly, I paid. Based upon the wonderful smell of the food and the service, I'll be back soon to actually try their soups and platters!

I ordered the Cassava and genuinely didn't like it. The texture felt gritty and the stew tasted very watery.

I ordered the Cassava and genuinely didn't like it. The texture felt gritty and the stew tasted very watery. It's lacking in flavor and spice. I wish I could get my money back for this.

    Chicken and jollof rice.

We called our order in. Had to wait an additional 10 minutes for the order. Son had chicken and jollof rice (no complaints). There was something different about the cassava. Not different bad, but different from what I'm use to.

Real authentic African cuisine! I had the goat pepper soup with fufu and it was sooo good! The gentleman at the counter was very nice. It seems to be carry-out only. Will definitely try this place again!

The food was amazing. I came because I had a sore throat and the soup helped so much. The fish was well seasoned. Jollof rice wasn't bland it was full of flavor. Definitely will be back for more.

Beans and plantains. Extra spicy as requested.

My friend and I ate lunch here for the first time last week. I was craving spicy beans and I was not disappointed, the dish I got was exactly what I was looking for. Would definitely recommend. The staff were friendly but very busy. it is a very popular place for carry out/take out. I would suggest ordering in advance if you're going for your lunch break.

The plantains on top of it were good but I'm used to receiving more plantains than what this place provides. The oxtail was delicious and the whole grilled fish was just average - it was on the small side and not seasoned well. The puff puff was tasty and I truly enjoyed it. For the portion sizes, the price was too high. I have gotten whole fish twice the size for the same price, as well as more oxtail pieces for a lesser price. So while the food was mostly good it is overpriced.

It's a small, humble place--what some might call a hole-in-the-wall--but it's packed with heart, hospitality, and seriously satisfying portions. On this visit, I went with my usual favorite: Egusi with goat and jollof rice. The flavors were rich, deep, and comforting--the kind of meal that feels like a warm hug from home. The egusi was perfectly seasoned, the goat tender and well-spiced, and the jollof rice full of that signature smoky goodness that's hard to find just anywhere. Yes, the service can be a little slow--but trust me, it's worth the wait. Everything is cooked with care, and you can taste the love in every bite. The staff is warm and welcoming, making the whole experience feel personal and genuine. If you're looking for delicious, authentic African food that fills your plate and your soul, Sumbim never disappoints. Just come hungry--and maybe bring a to-go box, because you'll probably need it! I don't have a lot of African experience, so I was instantly intrigued. After a morning of exploring the Prince William Forest, we came here for a good lunch. As a guy who's not well versed in the cuisine, I asked for advice, and I was lead in the right direction. I can't seem to find the exact menu item, but I know it the main focal point was that jollof rice. Man, the flavors in that rice were very new to me, and very delicious. Lots of good heat, but not spicy at all. You gotta try it. Also on my place was some sort of meat, some sort of delicious fish on the bone, a nice hard boiled egg, and some sweet plantains. Along with a small salad. Good meat, good sauce. Love eating meat off the bone, adds so much good flavor. Just a really nice meal. I also got some Sweet Plantain Balls (Caclo) as an app. These things were amazing! I usually don't like plantains, But these were very soft, coated in a tangy, umami powder, again a new thing for me. Overall, I very much enjoyed this place. If you're ever in Dumfries, VA, I would highly recommend you stop by, as this was the best food I had the whole time I was in town!

I did choose to eat from the Zion Kitchen menu which on the day, I regretted. I am not a big African cuisine consumer so I wasn't aware that it was going to be HOT. The menu didn't mention everything was going to be hot. It was so hot that I let it touch my tongue only twice and then told them to bag it. I did request some rice because I figure if I ever do get the courage to eat it, the rice will help. Everything is a-la-carte and if you don't know to order something, you just have a very sad meal. The menu hints at telling you, you should order all 3 parts but you could expect your stew to have something in it but it will not. Your stew is a soup or better yet a broth of sorts. You have to also order a starch and a protein unless of course you only want the blazing hot broth. Not only was it spicy, it was scolding hot which amplifies the spice. Once I got it home and warmed it up the next day, I added some honey to it to cut the heat and it worked perfectly. I'm sure it did however change the intended taste but if the intended taste is fire, that's not my cup of tea. Also, there wasn't a lot of meat on the things that I ordered but the "beef" was good. I tried the combo but that had a little piece of beef and cow foot which is a type of fat that you have to bite off the bone and then something that was similar in texture to the fat on the cow feet but I think it was ... I don't even remember what it was. It wasn't bad but it wasn't meat.
