The aesthetic is pretty and elegant. The man behind the counter was polite and patient, answering a couple of silly questions for me with a smile. They were out of most of their sandwiches when I happened to pop in, but despite settling for my 3rd choice on the menu, it was still a tasty, satisfying lunch. I've been falling in love with the Alexandria, VA area, recently. Either I have been sleeping or its coming around. Either way I just found Lily's Chocolate & Coffee while venturing up and down King Street, and well with the help of Yelp because this was a plan to visit later in October. But, I decided my kiddos needed a treat. Located on a corner you walk into hues of pink, florals and the smell of chocolate and coffee. I became immediately distracted by the toppings and melted chocolate. But, when I snapped out of it, I was able to place my order. I opted for the Dubai chocolate inspiration over strawberries. If I remember correctly it was around $20 five or take. The cafe is so cute. It is small and if crowded be prepared to navigate that. There is bathrooms inside but, I do not know if it is for customers or not, as they were locked when we were there. The staff were just starting for the day. My nephews keep me hip! They've been raving and asking about finding them Dubai Chocolates so AWESOME Auntie had to make it happen. Yelp for help! To the rescue!! The shop is cute and pink. We tried this place at random as we're having brunch in old town and wanted to kill time before our reservation. My wife and I are both coffee lovers, so grabbing a cup of Joe just made sense. My wife wanted to try this place. because it was new. I've never been here before. We splurged for the pistachio ice latte. This is one of the best specialty lattes I've ever had. The hot chocolate was decently chocolatey (I tend to like mine super sweet). But the star was the Dubai Chocolate Bar. It's an oversized chocolate bar (seriously, it took my family of 5 three days to eat it all) and it comes topped with (I believe) pistachio and kataifi (which gives it a crunch that Crunch Bars can only dream of). I really wanted to give this Lily's 5 star but unfortunately couldn't. When first walking in I noticed, although cramped, the cafe was cute, aesthetic and "instagram worthy"-- my kids liked it so we decided to order some coffee and their "Dubai chocolate". First let me say the young lady who helped us was very patient and friendly; 5 stars to her! The coffee was decent, but didn't come sweetened, so that was unexpected. The chocolate was good. Overall though the coffee and chocolate wasn't worth the price for the average taste. Also upon looking around a bit more, the cafe was actually a bit dirty. I sat in traffic for an hour and 24 minutes to get to old town for an event! So I'm terrified to drive there, but the iced pistachio latte and Dubai chocolate bar has me shook! I am a big fan of buttery pistachio flavored things that don't give off artificial and their latte was giving me just that! Many times I find it hard to also find a prominent taste pistachio coffee items, but i find that between Shotted and Lily's, they are very close! 10/10. Lily's takes it for price point and the perfect amout of pistachio! It was was so creamy and ughh I want more thinking about it! I was able to get silent one street parking here in a Friday afternoon around 3:30. The space was cute and had some tables to sit down. I was able to order easily and get my food in a few moments. I ordered a spinach pie, chocolate and strawberries, and a Dubai chocolate bar. 1) spinach pie was cold even though it was warmed up. It probably would have been good if it was heated fully. 2) chocolate strawberries. I asked for pistachio cream to be added. The chocolate was really smooth and delicious. The strawberries were really big and fresh. I couldn't taste the pistachio to much, I assume due tot he chocolate. 3) Dubai Chocolate: The bar was good but I couldn't really taste the filling as much as I'd of liked. I've been to both Lily's Chocolate & Coffee locations. They are as advertised. What you see in the pictures is what you will get. Decadent, chocolate and sugar-laden everything. Even though both locations are incredibly loud, due to the numerous customers coming in and out, groups of people catching up, it is still such a conducive environment for working. And I attribute it to the fengshui of the restaurant. The way the tables are situated are very intimate so that you are not directly looking at other parties who are talking, you are facing one of their many instagrammable walls, decorations, or fixtures. They also don't play any draining, annoying, or poorly picked radio stations. The only thing I would say is I would think if they open up another location that it be bigger. What a blessing to now be privy to such a simple but flipping DECADENT, FRESH dessert like this. I can't say enough. The PERFECT mix of the sweetest, juiciest strawberries with the silkiest milk chocolate topped with the most tantalizing pistachio creme and topped with some crushed pistachios and a sensational crumb topping: Kataifi/Kadayif/Katifi shredded phyllo/filo dough; that can best be described as those old school sugar wafers. IYKYK. Echoing other reviews ... you do need to eat it fast because the chocolate hardens. Two personal notes: will get dark chocolate next time and they need to offer spoons to help you clean your cup ... soooo much goodness was wasted/left behind. The little shop is cute and was clearly luxurious when it first opened. Love the rose gold accents and faux swings. The volume of business ain't suffering sooo this observation is a moot point but it's absolutely in need of a good cleaning ... the upholstery is dirty and worn and their tables need to be tightened. Again, just my observation. Anyways, Lily's is worth the drive. Sooo sad for those with nut allergies but they do have plenty of other desserts ... I just highly recommend this one. Super cute cafe! Randomly stumbled across this place while walking around old town Alexandria after my friend and I finished with her bridal dresses appt a couple blocks down. The decor with the floral background is perfect for photos (heck it's my profiile picture right now). I saw some people ordering a whole pastry tea set thing which would looked really good and also of course, aesthetically pleasing for photos. I finally got to try the ever so popular/viral Dubai chocolate bar! Well, now the hype has died down now, but hey. Better late than never right? So I don't know how much other places are charging for this but I paid $15, which in my opinion is pretty pricey. And again, hype has gone down so I don't know why price is still on the higher end. We were looking for a sweet treat after dinner and saw this place was packed. We got in line and got one of their specialties - lockma. These are light airy fried dough balls and we got them covered in chocolate and crushed up Biscoff cookies. I liked how they were super heavy and packed with sweetness. The line was out of the door and it was cold outside, but I really wanted a sweet treat and had heard great things. Nothing could've prepared me for the incredibly delicious Ruby Lockma! The chocolate sauce is divine!!!!! I could've licked the remnants of chocolate right out of the container. I've never had chocolate as delicious as this. There was a line out the door... in February! It was the go-to dessert spot on a Saturday night and was the best choice by far. The strawberries in a cup with the regular milk chocolate was as you would expect, amazing. Hot tip - eat it fast since the chocolate will harden! I've been here many times, the place is perfectly pink and adorable. It's usually always very crowded and it is a bit pricey, but the lockmas are so unique and absolutely delicious!! In a time crunch to find something sweet for a 4yo play date, I stumbled into this cafe featuring fried mini donuts with one's choice of liquid chocolate, pistachio cream, and a host of crumbled toppings and sprinkles. Also noticed people ordering cups of sliced fruit drenched in more of the chocolate and pistachio topping for double digit prices as well as an intriguing Dubai Chocolate Bar. It was only after the fact that I discovered this was an Iraqi coffee shop featuring freshly fried lokma (their take on donuts usually soaked in a an aromatic syrup or honey) and this Dubai chocolate bar was a viral TikTok craze with milk chocolate exterior surrounding pistachio cream and strands of deep fried strands of phyllo pastry (Kataiffi) I think this puts me in a unique position to evaluate this place without any preconceived bias. First off, the price point is high since 5 munchkin sized doughnuts with liquid topping and sprinkles was $14. Secondly, you could put a mini Belgian waffle, funnel cake, or Krispy Kreme doughnut underneath that avalanche of toppings and the only difference would be texture over taste. Perhaps the ideal way of appreciating the lockma would be stand alone or with a light dusting of crushed pistachios, and only then would the price point perhaps make more sense. One could also substitute cheap fruit and drench them in aforementioned liquid topping and nobody would be none the wiser. As for the Dubai chocolate bar, it sounds like a chocolate covered baklava which again would require a delicate balance to avoid having the sweetness level overpower the flavor of its components but I'm sure the texture and appearance is pleasing. I'm all for welcoming new flavors and cultures into the community, but the emphasis on aesthetics may be a hit amongst the younger crowd, but perhaps my older self prefers substance over image. read more

I had a great walk this morning and ended up at Lily's chocolate and coffee. This is a cute venue with the sweetest smells of chocolate and coffee. I thought I was going in for a coffee but ended up not only with an iced salted caramel latte (which didn't survive the walk back and was absolutely delicious not too sweet at all ) I ended up getting the strawberries covered in chocolate and the Dubai chocolate bar. The chocolate covered strawberries were amazing fresh and that chocolate, I could live in that chocolate lol I haven't tried my Dubai bar yet but will update with pictures and feedback once I do.
