THEY LOST MY DOG Dropped my dog, Franklin, off on Sunday 11/27. Jason texted me Thursday 12/1 explaining they lost my dog... on Sunday, so it took him four days to contact me after losing my dog. Jason did not do enough when it came to searching for my dog. Did not post online. Did not hang up flyers. Did not help with search party. We recovered my dog after 12 days, but Jason and Agape Acre Kennels have yet to pay for the costs for losing my dog (flyers and vet visit). Overall, Jason is a nice guy who means well but he is not good at maintaining his kennel. There is no double gate system for dogs to enter and exit safely. Jason's lack of action after losing my dog was egregious. He paid me lip service and effectively did nothing. This is atleast to put a warning to anyone who is considering this kennel. Don't make the same poor judgement that we did when we leave our dog Dec 2022. I feel like my dogs are my children. Call me crazy if you like, but I will say the dogs beat the human children in "Kid of the Week" many times in our household. With that being said, my expectations for anywhere I leave my pups is high. Not high maintenance kind of high - but I expect them well cared for, loved, and hopefully exhausted from laps running along the fence barking at their neighbor dog. From the moment you step foot on the property, just as Jason said, "this isn't a fancy place, it's a dog's place." That it is! Jason and Mike are down to earth, reasonably priced, and they care for the dogs as if they are part of the family. I can always count on a smile and country courtesy knowing my kids are in good hands. read more

This is my go-to place for dog boarding. We have a mastiff and a pitbull, so our dogs are BIG and we prefer that they don't have direct contact with other dogs when we aren't around to supervise. Agape is the perfect place for this. During the day (weather permitting) the dogs are kept in big outdoor pens on soft grass. Each dog gets their own pen, but they are large enough that our big boys share one. At night, everyone goes inside to their indoor pens. Jason is careful to keep all the dogs from having direct contact, but they can all hear and see each other so they never get lonely. I love that this place is laid back and flexible but takes great care of the animals. read more

This place is a great option for dog boarding. Jason and his crew clearly love dogs. Our GSP buddy always is excited when we arrive, and looks like he has a good time. This is probably not the place yo leave lap dogs but more appropriate for bigger dogs, just a hunch. We really appreciate this place snd you can't beat the price. read more

After reading all of the reviews for Agape Acres, I was sure it was the right place to send my pups. Not only is the price extremely reasonable, but the dogs get to be outside being dogs for most of the day. Since we live in an apartment, I absolutely love for my dogs to be able to have as much outside time as possible, and they get it at Agape! When I picked them up, they slept for about 48 hours. They were good and exhausted and happy! I will definitely keep sending them to Agape! read more

I have big dog aggressive dogs. These people know exactly what to do, and absolutely are the nicest people ever. A fantastic place to let your dogs be DOGS. This isn't a resort, this is dog Heaven. Smells, space, and multiple packs (separated by temperament). Highly recommend if you want peace of mind and a happy dog. Super affordable for the two as well. Love Agape and so do our dogs. There is a ton of space for them to run and play, and the owners know how to take care of your dog. Our dog is always exhausted when we pick him up...we can tell he's had a great time. As others have said, this isn't one of those fancy schmancy places with dog TVs etc, dogs are dogs here and will get filthy running and rolling around - which is what they love. I love this place. We have bringing out pit bull, Bella here for 2 years now. Mike and Nancy are such dog lovers and awesome down to earth people. I completely trust them with my dog-aggressive pittie. They have so much land and the dogs get so much play time to run around, get dirty, and just be dogs. Don't pick up your dog and expect to not give them a bath the second you get home... He/she will need it! This is not a fancy place, it's a family run farm with tons of love and genuine owners. They go above and beyond to help our Bella eat.... She will go "dog-orexic" and not eat when she is away from us. Nancy mixes wet and dry food and ensures that she eats. She is aware of our dogs aggressiveness with other dogs and still makes sure she gets the exercise and attention that she needs. I'm always curious about how she is doing and I can call Nancy any time to get an update. It's like dropping off your pet at grandma and grandpas for the weekend. Do call ahead, especially during busy times like Christmas, and they will get you right in. We will never take our Bella anywhere else to be boarded in Austin. Agape is the best! read more

You may have seen the owners of Agape Acres on local news of the flood ravaged Onion Creek area this week. Mike Kimbro had to be rescued by boat as he risked his life to save the dogs in their care. Apparently they saved every dog except one already frail dog. Mike was swept downstream and was saved by a swift water rescue team holding 2 dogs with one hand while using the other to clutch onto metal debris. PLEASE support them. They need to get back on their feet as they have lost everything including their home in the flood. Their only concern, though, has been for the dogs and horses that were all suddenly caught with them in the 41 foot flash flood. Just ask Nancy or Mike about the details. They are blessed to be alive. read more

This is an amazing place for dogs and the people who love them. The owners really care about dogs and understand their different needs. They let your dog be a dog, and they keep their rates reasonable (low, actually). It's not some frou-frou place where your dog will be pampered, but a safe place for your dog to play until he's exhausted, romp around with other animals and generally just have a great time. I dont get the 3 star ratings below. This place is like leaving your dog at grandmas house. They get that much love! I have boarded Lady with Mike and Nancy several times and have to say that my pooch is a sweetie but skittish around strangers. Mike and Nancy immediately picked up on this during our first visit and knew exactly how to approach Lady and make her feel very comfortable. I have NEVER seen Lady warm up to anyone as quickly as she did to them. They asked a lot of questions about temperament, past experiences and I could tell that they were determining which play group would be most appropriate for her. I would never hesitate to leave my beloved, spoiled rotten child (dog) with Mike and Nancy. She ALWAYS comes home a little dirty, somewhat exhausted and extremely happy! BOTTOM LINE: If your dog is a pampered pooch then this place definitely is NOT for you. If your dog likes to romp and play with others until falling over completely exhausted and totally happy, then this is the place for you. read more

We LOVE Agape Acres! I have been taking my big German Shepard mutt to Agape for years now and he loves it! Jason and Mike do such an amazing job with him. My dog is both super energetic and scared of strangers... but immediately felt right at home at Agape and gets excited every time we go. He gets to play in such a large yard and get his energy out, and has is own personal space so we never have to worry about him with other dogs. We have found that this place is perfect for both long term boarding and just dropping off for the day, we know we can trust them to take care of our pup! read more

I am so relieved to have found this place. The owner, Mike, is like the Dog Whisperer. He was great from the start with my little guy with anxiety issues. I have 2 dogs, and when I picked them up they were running happily in their yard, not at all desperate to see me. There are no cages. They have yards. At night they are in large crates. My dogs are indoor city dogs, but they love being out in the country, playing, and being around other dogs. Also, my timid one has fear aggression issues, and had no problem here. I cannot recomend Agape Acres enough! It's a jewel of a place. read more

I have been boarding my dog Arianna at Agape Acres since I moved to Austin 6 months ago. Depending on my travel she has stayed with them from 2 days to over 2 weeks. Every time I bring her she gets so excited when we drive up and sleeps for days when I bring her home. Incase you don't know Agape is a like farm. There are usually goats wondering around (in there own area), mules or horses in the far back and of course lot's of dogs; plenty of sights and smells to entice the senses. There is a reason when an animal dies it is comforting to tell a child they went to live on a farm, cause it is so exciting and freeing for them. Agape is located in south Austin which is great for me. The husband and wife are really nice. I have found the prices to be very reasonable. (and a few times they have given discounts to me, like when I had to board her for two weeks when I volunteered in Africa or when my boyfriend was activated for a couple of days because of the hurricane.) They usually give me an update on her behavior when I pick her up or let me know if they notice any health issues. I have recommended Agape to several people and will continue to bring my dog. Mike and Nancy are lifelong pet owners as well as a dedicated dog boarding facility of animals of all shapes, sizes and breeds. No matter how much time has gone by, there is no place in Austin that I'd feel more confident in than Agape Acres. The animals get good play time and are well fed and tended to. Mike and Nancy were always our "go-to" when we had to travel. They always treated us like friends and our dog as a special guest. Our dog loved to go there, he absolutely adored Mike and Nancy. Even though I was only a 4-7 year old child when I went to visit them, I still remember how welcomed they made me feel. Every time I went, Mike always gave me a bag of M&M's because he knew they were my favorite at that time. Nancy would always give me the biggest hug when she saw me. My dad used stayed in touch with them through their tough times at the farm (its been a few years since they've talked). Its not always about the quality treatment that the animals get (food, shelter, etc.) but its about the personality and love that the owners treat their guests/pets. This place always holds a special place in my heart, and I wish my dog (Pochie/Pachi) could see them again. read more

I literally cannot believe this place is not 4 star or above. To the person who has NEVER boarded a dog here: you live near a KENNEL - of course you're going to hear barking. Review the place if you've boarded a dog here. This is going to be a long review because I am obsessed with Agape Acres and annoyed that anyone gave it less than the four to five stars it deserves. We have boarded our two Australian Shepherds here at least four times, and they've also come to the "Doggie Day Out" thing. Aussies are the type of dogs that never, ever stop. It can be 115 Texas degrees outside, and they will still be dropping tennis balls at your feet. But every single time we have picked them up from Agape Acres, both dogs have jumped on us, licked our faces hello, and then immediately passed out in the back of the car on the way home. They will then continue to sleep for the rest of the day (sadly the effect only lasts one day). Both dogs also get visibly excited when they pull up to the gate, freaking out like a kid that just realized he's at Schlitterbahn. As a fair warning, our dogs are social (maybe overly social) so they are in group play all the time. If your dog has to be in individual play for some reason, I can't speak to that. I do know that Nancy says she works on socializing individual play dogs with others, trying to work them up to group play. Just ask her about it if you have this issue. On top of the great exercise, this place is unbeatable for the price. We board both dogs in an outdoor kennel for $35 a day; you can have an indoor kennel for $45 for two. We pack them individual baggies of food for each meal (breakfast and dinner) and pillows to sleep on. Find me another place in Austin that is this inexpensive AND that will send your dog back happy and exhausted. Can't do it. You'll find a chupacabra first. I will say that if you have never played with your pooch in a mud puddle or are worried about chipping your Shih Tzu's fresh manicure, don't go here. Your dog will be dirty. DIRTY. Your dog will need a bath (a long one), a brush, and probably a check for ticks/fleas. If you'd ask your kid to wash after a week of camping, then you'll be okay washing your dog after this place, too. Nancy will give you a report of how your dog did and will let you know of anything she noticed about your dog's behavior. She and her husband obviously care about dogs and make sure everyone has a good time. I cannot recommend this place enough; it is such a great operation they have here. To address the previous comment about the flood zone, it's true this is located by onion creek however, keep in mind there people are dog lovers, they were victims of the flood last October and all of their dog tenants were safe and out of harms way when the flood came through. They loaded up all of their tenants and drove them to safety that night. I boarded my dog there she has anxiety so group play was not the best for her personality, but the owners were so careful and considerate of her while she was there. read more

Agape is the best! My two dogs, Nala and Bella, are my babies and i'm very picky with who watches them. I don't like the "fancy dog spa" places, I wanted them to have a place where they could run like crazy and be outside. Agape is exactly what I wanted. Mike is very nice and always responsive. I'm completely at ease when I leave them there which is great, since i'm one that usually get anxiety about where they are. They have now stayed at Agape on 4 separate occasions and usually for a week at a time, I've never had any issues. Take your dogs to Agape, you wont regret it! read more

Their prices and facilities are great! They are definitely my top choice for boarding before anyone else in Austin. They also allow for solo dog play if your pup is more of the independent type. I love love love this place! I have a very scared, "fear aggressive" german shepherd, and I have never seen her take to any person like she took to Nancy on her first day there. She told me "I just let them be dogs". I have spent thousands of dollars on my dog's training and boarding at other places, and not to take away from any formal training my dog has received, but I love that Agape Acres. The care and attention they receive is just what the doctor ordered for my fearful baby. I have never seen her so happy and calm in what previous trainers would describe as a "stressful environment". This is a fantastic kennel! As most dog owners are I am very particular about where I leave my dogs and who i leave them with. Mike and Nancy care deeply about the work they do and it is evident in how they run this kennel. My dogs are inside dogs, which means I kennel them indoors, but Mike and Nancy make sure to let them have outside time too. It's so perfect. My pups are exhausted when i pick them up because they've had such a great time. I can't say enough about this kennel. Good people and they offer a fair price for the great service they provide. Our rott weiler was very happy there and loved the space and playing with other dogs. Jason made sure to take great care of him and provided an amazing service. Agape Acres is a wonderful place! Dogs that are lucky enough to stay there are incredibly well treated - they are NOT stuck in a cage all day but come out for supervised play. LOTS of it! Nancy Kimbro is very good at this, and very accommodating to any reasonable request! I know that she provides special treatment for each of the dogs, and if a dog has special needs (like medication, or a special diet, for example), that is not a problem. We have left our dogs there consistently for the last 5 years, and my only worry is that they'll be full when I need them!!!!! Agape Acres really lives up to one of their mottos - "where a dog can be a dog". I am always glad that my pets are not stuck in a cage, soaked in urine and miserable. Agape Acres saves them from that fate!! AND, Nancy has a keen eye for each dog's personality and general health condition. When we pick up the dogs, we also get a full report, including behavior and general condition. 100% of the times we have been there, our dogs come home happy and healthy! I ended up not leaving my dog here and would NOT recommend anyone to board their animals here. I was initially drawn to this place because of its affordability and its farm-like ambiance. I talked to Nancy on the phone and made reservations to have my terrier mix board in one of the outdoor kennels for the weekend. She explained to me that they only opened at 4:30pm for check-in, but since I was passing through while traveling we made arrangements for me to call her at about 3:00 when I was expecting to be close. She was very nice on the phone and I was excited about my dog getting his own little vacation on a farm. On the day I was to drop him off, I called at 3:00 to let her know I was about 10 minutes away as we had agreed upon. She didn't answer, however, so I continued on my way. When I arrived, there was no sign of anyone so I tried calling several times again, but still no answer. I also tried calling the other number listed on the sign out front and no one answered that phone either. We waited around outside for a minute and there was no sign of anyone except for the dogs barking like crazy in the fenced in play yards and kennels behind the house. At that point I also noticed all of the junk in the yard which struck me as unprofessional. Next I tried knocking on the door of the house and could hear dogs barking inside the house, but no one answered. My boyfriend and I also walked around to the side of the house where the farm animals were kept and we saw no one in the backyard. We also went to the other side of the yard where the dogs were kept and tried yelling to get someone's attention, but again saw no one outside. This whole time, the dogs that were out there were barking and carrying on, so if anyone had been outside they certainly should have heard them. This went on for about fifteen minutes and I was starting to get concerned. We were already on our way out of town and didn't know what we were going to do with our dog since the other boarding places we ad called were all booked. We also didn't want to take him with us since we were traveling with friends to their parents' beach house and the mother doesn't like dogs. This entire time our friends were waiting on us in their car and I was getting very panicky about what to do with our dog. Finally, after pounding on the door loudly a woman came outside and asked "Can I help you?" I reminded her that I was there to drop off my dog at 3:00 like we had talked about. At first she seemed to have no recollection of me, but then she apologized for forgetting. I mentioned that we had been trying to contact someone for awhile and her response was that their drop off time was normally 4:30 and she doesn't always hear her phone ring. I thought this was odd since we had made arrangements the day before for me to drop him off at a certain time, so she should have been expecting me. I then mentioned that I was a little concerned about the animals in the play yards together being unsupervised. My dog, though feisty, is pretty small and could easily get injured by the larger dogs they had boarding there. Even if he had been the same size, it didn't seem like a good idea to leave dogs that don't know each other in a pen together unsupervised (especially since they had been barking loudly for about 15 minutes and no one had responded). Having my dog play with other dogs for the four days he was to be boarding at the kennel was one of the reasons I had chosen the place...I didn't want him to be locked away in a small kennel the entire time, but I also didn't want him to get hurt and no one around to respond. Instead of reassuring me about this point, Nancy began to get defense and swore that she had been outside in the kennels with the dogs the entire time, which I had a hard time believing considering we had seen no one outside. In addition, the dogs had been barking both inside the house and outside since we had arrived which I think she would have noticed. I told her it didn't make sense given how loud we were being trying to get someone's attention, and she then told me rudely that she didn't want to take my dog since "I would onlly find something to criticize when I picked him up." At that point I decided I was not going to leave my dog with this woman who was obviously lying and extremely unprofessional. It turned out to be a huge inconvenience to take our dog with us, as much as we love him, but I would have been seriously worried about him at that place had we left him there. Though the price of this place is cheap, I would seriously recommend you take your dog elsewhere if you care about his safety and well-being! read more

I love, love, love Agape Acres! I have left my 2 dogs (one of which is extremely high energy) with Mike and Nancy at Agape Acres several times - all of which have been fabulous. I first decided to use Agape Acres after reading that the dogs are allowed to run around for most of the day. I really didn't like the idea of my dogs being couped up all day in a cage and only being let out for a few minutes each day. I can truly say that when I pick my dogs up from Mike and Nancy's, they are totally pooped and don't necessarily want to come home because they're having such a great time (which makes me happy and sad). As other yelpers have commented, my doggies usually sleep for a good 24hrs after coming home before getting back to their usually crazy selves. read more

This is not a fru fru kennel, you're dog is going to play outside until they can't stand any longer. Agape Acres has been a great place for me to leave my dog when I travel. I have known the owners Mike and Nancy for over a year now and they are very friendly and take fantastic care of my dog. It is very evident that they love animals and take great care. This definitley is a "down home" place and I appreciate the care, responsivness and flexibility they have always demonstrated. Agape Acres is a wondeful boarding facility. I call it Doggy Disneyland! I have been taking my two VERY active dogs to them for 3 years, once for an extended period. When I go to pick up my dogs, they are always happy, well cared for and exhausted from all the play time and exercise they get during their stay. They sleep like babies for days! We have been bringing our dogs here for several years and are always very happy. Their fees are reasonable. The owners, Mike and Nancy, take great care of the dogs and are always very helpful and accommodating to us. We have an older dog so we board him inside, but the outside kennels are great and our dogs always seemed to love them. They love being on the farm and interacting with all the other animals. Mike even lets my son pick squash from his garden when we go pick up the dogs. We have never had any problems and have recommended Agape Acres to our friends and neighbors. read more
