I love love love Agape Dance Lab for my inspiring 9 year old dancer. We have searched quite a few dance studios in Lake Forest and Agape immediately won our hearts! My son is so happy here, and in a short 6 months he has thrived in breakdancing & hip hop. The coaches have helped with my son's confidence, and ability to dance. He spends most his time when we are at home practicing the newest choreography in the mirror for fun, and is loving it. Booked their 10am Yoga class on ClassPass. I showed up 15 minutes early and the door was locked with the lights off. I tried calling but no answer. I waited 10 minutes and messaged ClassPass. They informed me the class had been cancelled. My email showed the class got cancelled at 9:55am, right when I messaged them. Cancelling a class 5 minutes before is unacceptable and I will not be returning. read more

The Thursday 7pm Beginner Hip Hop class is the highlight of my life right now. Literally just said that to teach, Chris, last night. Super bummed I will be moving out of the area - wish I could take them with me in my pocket. I look forward to this night as a fun / healing / full-on creative expressive / challenging / aggression outlet night of the week. Leave feelin' good, sexy, and worked - even if you're goofy like me. I always say, my enthusiasm makes up for my lack of experience and ability to do a smooth body roll. I've always loved dancing, but had never taken in-person classes. When the COVID shutdown happened, I had a hankering to start practicing hip hop at home, away from judgmental eyes. I've always been one to like getting a good workout without knowing because it's so damn fun (and is why I do sports and such rather than be a gym rat). Youtube and Cize were where I first started choregraphed at-home dancing, but even if you have wall mirrors like I did, it just ain't the same without your peeps by your side. When I came back to Cali, I started doing ClassPass and was incredibly lucky (and fated) to find Agape Dance Lab. I believe they're the only hip hop class I saw on there, and I jumped on it. GPS is not the best in finding the studio, but don't give up - it is in front of the plaza instead of the back and on the first floor. My first class, I walked in and witnessed the Advanced Class happening downstairs, and I mistakenly thought it was my Beginner class and started to slowly back out, hoping no one would see me. These people are FIERCE on the dancefloor -- everything I wanna be on the planks, but I'm. just. not (yet)... gotta start somewhere though. Luckily a rep came out and told me the teacher, Chris (referenced above), was about to come in and said I could wait on the living room couch situation they have in the front lobby. Can't lie, got a little nervous as I didn't know what to expect, and note, I came alone. I could tell these people dance. Like really dance. But don't back out! Out of the 20 studios I've been to in the last month+, Agape is my absolute favorite. I've only been three times, but I make sure I schedule around it. Two other patrons then showed up and waited with me in the lobby - one was a regular, and the other a newbie, ClassPass person like me. I can happily say we had and do have great times together in that dance studio upstairs. We groove, welaugh, we sweat, we mess up (and kill it), and cheer each other on. This is the community-type experience I look for when I go to ANY studio whether it be in the realms of Zumba, yoga, Pilates, kickboxing, cycle, gyms, or even at the sauna. Chris is a GREAT dancer and teacher! My first time, he asked me about previous experience, and I told him about my home practice. We then stretched and stretched / danced / warmed-up. Every class, he pauses and asks the class if we have questions, if we want to go over anything, slow it down, move on, etc. etc. Every class, he comes in with a new pre-planned choreographed routine to pair with a song he's already picked out (last time he asked if we had any requests for next time, which was pretty freakin' cool). Last time, we did a sexy-kinda dance with a lot of freestyle and body rolls (one of my weaknesses) to TLC's "Creep". The week before that, we did somethin' a little more old school-gangster to "Rap Super Star". My first night, we did a super fun dance to "Dunk Contest". So, every week is a different song, different choreography, different challenges. I LOVE IT. Not only is this type of challenge super fun, but did you know it's incredibly good for your mental health and stimulation which in turn keeps ya young? Yeah, overall = amazing. Oh, and one of the greatest parts is that Chris offers for people to record final product so you can watch yourself later to see how you can adjust / improve. I refused the first time as I don't like seeing myself on camera, but my ClassPass buddy did and sent it to me, and I'm actually really glad he did. It not only helps you improve, but it makes me laugh seeing my facial expressions and my "mistakes", but it makes me super proud of myself for even going out there and trying - and even being in the front. I enrolled my 4 year-old daughter in their ballet/tap class since the pandemic and it's been fun. I enjoy watching my daughter have fun and interacting with other girls her age. The parking lot is always spacious so there's plenty of room for us to park. The owners are both extremely nice and I love that they both have dance backgrounds. The layout of the studio is great as well as they have an upper-level and lower-level so two classes can be going on at the same time. They also have recitals and my daughter loves performing in those. Besides ballet/tap classes, I've seen them have a hip hop class for 3-5 year olds as well. I might put my daughter in that next! Really fun! I got to Chris for beginner classes and have been wanting to be able to improve my dancing for a long time. Chris is a great teacher for hiiphop. He really pays attention to his students and watches their movements. He also pushes you to more difficulty but to a point that you can manage. I was a student at Positive Energy Dance (pre Covid) and took adult tap, ballet and jazz there. This Studio bought out Positive Energy (I was sent an email when this happened) and was told that any prepaid classes would be honored at this new Studio. I took a tap class on Tuesday and wanted to use my left over prepaid classes. The teacher referred me to the owner (who I was never able to connect with even after 6 days of calls, texts and in person visits). The Studio Manager finally called me and said they are no longer honoring any prepaid classes. I am not happy as this is not what we were told when the Studio was bought out. We were told that these classes WOULD be honored. This Studio doesn't seem to care about customer service (I specially asked ti speak to the owner who never connected with me), they have no sense of urgency to communicate with their customers (it took them 6 days to call me back and that was after they sent me a 3 world response to a text and left me hanging for 4 days) and they don't keep their word. They have lost a perspective long term multiple classes per week student due to these reasons and I would not recommend or trust this business. Over the years I have written over 45 Yelp reviews and this is only one of two that is negative (the other negative review was a storage unit that was robbed that people need to know about before storing their belongings there). I feel like that really says a lot. I am now searching for a new a Studio to attend. If anyone has any studio recommendations please reach out! I think a lot of us have been lost since Jimmie DeFore closed. TIA! read more

I absolutely LOVE the Thursday 7 PM Beginner Hip Hop Class, taught by the amazing Chris. I found this place through my friend, who I go on frequent Class Pass trips on, but this one is definitely going to stick among the others. There were only five people in the class but it was still so much fun! Chris created a dance out of one minute of a TLC song and made it easy enough to follow along but challenging enough to really get me thinking about the steps, with room to add my own flavor. Chris also stopped momentarily to ask if anyone had questions or wanted to go over a particular move. We have been at Positive Energy for a little over 2 years. I was shocked at the negative review and I feel I must let people know our experience. My daughter started dance at 13, which is old by dance standards. She attended classes at three studios prior to finding at Positive Energy. She is now taking four classes a week and dance is by far the favorite part of her week. It is hard to find a studio that makes older, less experienced dancers feel welcome. These ladies are absolutely wonderful! They're friendly, easy to talk to, creative, and patient. My fiance had a stroke a couple of years ago and has limited mobility on one side of his body... and we didn't have time or energy to go to weeks of lessons to learn some moves for our wedding dances. Dawne and her partner came up with creative and easy ways to jazz up our dance moves and make it fun for us and our guests, without tiring us out or demanding too much from his weak side. This is my first time ever posting any kind of review on a business but I knew I wanted to because Positive Energy Dance has been nothing short of absolutely amazing. Natalie and Dawne are two of the most nurturing and caring people I have ever met. My daughter started dance at four years old at their studio and she has grown in so many ways from their amazing instruction. It is much different than the normal dance studio, they allow the children to explore and be there own independent person. My daughters confidence, coordination and love for dance has blossomed because of the encouraging atmosphere that this studio provides. read more

As a dad, I didn't find this business to be a very welcoming environment if you're not a "dance" person, which seems weird as it should be a learning environment for kids and parents. I felt like management was disorganized and thus unable to engage with parents to discuss progress or goals. The seating was very cramped and uncomfortable, and their instructors didn't have enthusiasm or excitement when teaching the classes. My son was only excited about playing with the other kids and didn't bring any dance excitement home, as a result of the lack of inspiration and direction. If my son continues with dance, it will certainly be at another studio. read more

I've been going to this studios for a few months now and I can tell you I'm hooked! The teachers are excellent and you feel exactly that: Positive Energy! My 2 boys (9 and 11 years old) are taking the hip-hop dance classes once a week and they say that's the highlight of the week, can't wait to get to the class. My daughter has taken multiple classes at Positive Energy Dance Center and has been nothing but thrilled with her experiences! Not only have her dance skills improved but her confidence has been elevated as well. It's obvious that the staff cares about each and every one of the dancers that comes through the door. They worked with me when my daughter had to miss classes for various reasons. In the end, we made up all but one class prior to the recital. The written policy was perfectly clear that once the classes ended (after the recital), any classes that had not been made up were lost. DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY HERE!! I've never written a review of an establishment before, but the DISHONEST and DISORGANIZED business practice at Positive Energy Dance Center was so disturbing that I felt it necessary to warn other families, especially ones who are brand new to dance. My children have never taken a dance program, so before we ever signed up, i called on multiple occasions to inquire about the policy. I was pitched very nicely by Natalie Walz (one of the sisters/owners) to purchase the "10 class" bundle in order to qualify for the discounted price of $15/class. I explained that we could not make all the classes every week due to scheduling conflicts with various school activities and was reassured that we could make up any missed classes. I also inquired about what would happen if my child changed his mind during the course of the 10 prepaid classes and was told "we never force a child to continue with class if they choose not to and will refund your money for any unused classes." After paying them IN FULL for two separate 10 week sessions, my child became disinterested midway through the second round of classes. So, i called not once, not twice but four times, leaving a message for Natalie requesting my refund for the unused classes. She avoided my calls until I finally received an email n return call from Dawne, her sister/biz partner, who didn't know anything about the situation, stating that i OWED them money. Mind you, i had already paid them for all the classes in full. So they couldn't even get their accounting straight! Of course, their initially accommodating tone is now completely flipped; now claiming there was a time limit to completing the make up classes within the "season." There was NO MENTION whatsoever about a time frame when she initially was selling me. If she had disclosed their policy in full about "seasons," i would have never signed my child up for the classes in the first place, no less prepay for 10 sessions at a time that i knew we wouldnt be able to complete within a timeframe that was never mentioned to me until i asked for a refund. This company took advantage of my inexperience and purposely misrepresented their policy to sell me. All this dishonesty to bilk me out of $75! I guess desperate businesses resort to desperate measures. DON'T get CHEATED the way i did, there are plenty of other dance studios in the area that don't resort to DECEPTION to earn a buck! read more
