My daughter has been dancing at V and T for 7 years. During that time she has grown in technique, strength and quality of movement. Victor and Tatiana also take great care to ensure the dancers avoid injury so they can dance for a lifetime. First, to the wonderful ballet family and friends we've gained at V&T this is not a reflection of you. You are wonderful people, your children are so filled with life and love and we were very fortunate to be a part of the ballet family. I'm writing this review after leaving Orange County civil court where Victor Kasatsky was present and was suing my family and another family for breaking the contract that we signed. We were being sued for $4500. For the last 10 years we have been a part of the ballet community, participating in local ballet schools throughout California - Bayer Ballet, Marat Daukayev and Yuri Grigoriev. We've also had the good fortune to be a part of summer training camps hosted by Bolshoi ballet, Joffrey Ballet and San Francisco Ballet. We know the dedication, respect and hard work it takes from a family in such a wonderful sport. In August 2019 we enrolled our daughter at V&T after enjoying a summer intensive. We knew very well of Victor and Tatiana's impeccable teaching and were proud to join their ballet. After summer intensive however Victor began reducing his class time. At the time we left in January, 40 percent of his classes were being taught by a student, Ivan. Ivan was teaching pointe class amongst other classes. Although Ivan was a very nice young man, he was competing as a student dancer in the Youth America Grand Prix prior to joining V & T and the quality of teaching was not at the level of Victor or Tatiana. There were more than the normal level of injuries in the class and the class size had reduced significantly over the time that we were there. We gave notice in January that we would be leaving and paid for the full month, $550. Upon giving notice we were told we had three days to pay a $1500 exit fee, which was outlined in the contract we signed. We tried to schedule a meeting with Victor and Tatiana and they refused. It was not Victor or Tatiana who corresponded with us, but Melanie, their front office worker. Victor and Tatiana would not take our phone call or respond to us in email. We wanted to explain what had happened and why we were leaving, we wanted to ask not to pay any fees as all of those previously mentioned ballet companies never charged us when we moved, went to other studios or simply left. This is the first and only instance where we were charged a fee. We consulted an attorney and were presented some research around California Civil Code that said that dance studios could not charge a fee for leaving. https://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/codes_displayText.xhtml?lawCode=CIV&division=3.&title=2.4.&part=4.&chapter=&article= We presented this information to V&T and were met with the response that we would be taken to court now for $4500. We were so very disheartened and understood that Victor and Tatiana had taken many parents to court for violation of the contract. Ultimately, we decided to go to court. It was a very sad day as Victor sat across the table from us in mediation and could not explain to the mediator why they were charging us $4500 after being repeatedly asked. He said simply pay the $1500. With great composure my wife let Victor know that it was the child's choice to leave, that she felt uncomfortable with her friends leaving the studio and being injured. We expressed questions on why Victor or Tatiana would not take our messages or sit down with us and talk until the day we arrived in court. (Please note, in the contract it clearly states that any issues that arise a meeting should be scheduled with Victor and Tatiana). We let Victor know that Ivan was not a suitable replacement for his talents and that we wanted to look at studios who had only the best teaching. Victor did not respond. ----- My family participated in the 2019 nutcracker with V&T, one of the most heartfelt and fun experiences we've had within our ballet family. There was not a training day where my family did not provide snacks and goodies for the studio, come with a smile on our face, volunteer for needed support and practice for the production with our new friends. Plenty of beer was had by the dads who fumbled their way through the dance steps and loved every minute of it , because of the time we got to spend with our daughters. ---------- Victor and Tatiana reached agreement through mediation with my family. We settled on paying $0 to V&T but gave a $1000 donation to their non profit, Golden State Dance Foundation, responsible for the public performances and scholarships for their students. We wish this would certainly have gone differently, we felt at our obligation to let the ballet community know, no matter how much it breaks our heart to say this. Both my daughters attend V and T (ages 3 and 4) and we love it! I had taken my older daughter to another dance instruction place, but it was mainly fluff. At V and T they teach them "real" ballet, but also make it so fun for the kids! Both girls are itching to go every Saturday morning, I cannot recommend them enough. My daughter moved to V&T in the fall of 2020. Mr. Victor, Ms. Tatiana, and Ms. Karen are amazing teachers that have really fostered her love of ballet, and she has become even more dedicated. V&T is a very welcoming and supportive studio. She feels her technique has improved so much since coming here. All of the teachers are very encouraging. She comes home from class in a great mood and is always excited to show me what she has learned. She has attended the summer intensives for the past two summers and has enjoyed working with the outside teachers and alumni that they bring in. It has been an amazing experience for her. V&T dance studio is perfect for my daughter. She is in her senior year high school with a busy schedule but still loves to dance. I took ballet from V&T about 20 years ago now. T was very rude and dismissive if you weren't doing something correct. V was a little more friendly towards me however he was obsessed with weight and both V&T teased girls for not sucking in, for having body fat. I knew many girls who had ED's because of it and one girl that was much older than me was a great dancer, told to lose 20lbs or she'd be kicked out. We had a Russian student come into our level. t especially would talk to her in Russian... she picked on one girl so mercilessly and called her a name which ended up translated to dummy. She would cry after every class and left. They'd also tell the Russian girl to pair up with their favorites. Both V&T had their favorites and it was obvious. No gift not as many private lessons you bought would change that. Luckily V liked me. As I got older, I got over ballet and preferred more energetic classes with more leaps/turns/acro... it helped me later on make varsity in song leading in high school freshman year and we won quite a few titles nationally. Back to V&T, if your child is truly gifted take them here, if not go somewhere else cause your child will be either picked on or ignored. My last class, I guess I wasn't the best I could be... T literally stared at me like I was a brick wall and said "your form is terrible", by then I'd had it and said "that's why my mother pays you money, to teach me" and stormed out. Like I said I always hated ballet and much preferred the energetic forms of dance than really challenged me, especially with acro tricks. I'd outgrown ballet. It's the best foundation for any starting dancer, but V&T are/were HARSH and ABRASIVE in how they talked to us and teased some (luckily not me) about being bloated or looking like we gained weight. I saw many girls cry after class, many sucked up, and many girls running to the bathroom to vomit a cup of noodle between classes -not making this up. That's how I was told the best method to puke is, eat a lot of liquid and you'll puke easier. They have their faves in class and if your kid isn't one of them, you're wasting $$$ cause they will either be teased or overlooked. If your child wants to truly focus on ballet, V&T are probably the best, but if this is just an after school recreational activity and they honestly aren't the best, take your child to classes elsewhere. Also the ED issue was no joke, neither was how certain students are favored over others and they pair girls up according to their favorites who they praise, then ignore or frown upon the rest. I cannot get Tattiana's frown or dismissive face out of my head, nor Victor teasing a girl and rubbing her stomach saying "looks like someone had Taco Bell before coming to class!" I was a slim Jim, but it even made me question my own weight. I know how they were trained in Russia was undoubtedly a million times worse, but to the softer American young girls, their comments and looks leave a lasting impression. The Russian girl would translate to us after our classes and she would tell us the honest truth. That V or T would tell her to not even talk to certain girls as they'd "hold her back" and "waste of space" to put it lightly. Like I said, I'd be on the lookout for odd eating habits, weird attitudes after class, weighing themselves on the scale often, look thru the observation window and see who gets praise and who gets frowned at or yelled at... This was my experience many years ago. It's left a lasting impression on me. Even tho I only took ballet until I learned pointe and then got over it for more exciting routines, not all this robotic, technical stuff, and having to do the nutcracker every year; pay attention to your child's attitude about class. I only came clean to my parents about the ED thing last year and they had no clue that was going on, nor kids getting harshly critiqued or ignored for not getting something correct. That's one more thing. They critiqued their faves into what was a better form, those that were struggling just got told they suck or were flat out stared at - blank face, before they moved on to look at the next dancer. My favorite place for adult ballet classes. The facility is clean and has perfectly maintained equipment (barres, marley flooring) The classes are fun with friendly students of all levels. I appreciate the experienced teachers that really know how to inspire and correct adults! This studio also has the best teachers for young children just beginning their ballet journey. I have observed the children's classes several times. As a retired teacher, I was extremely impressed by the expertise, maturity, and passion of these teachers. Having grown up dancing with very classical ballet training, I sought out a studio when I moved to the area to continue dancing as an adult. V&T was the perfect fit as I've eased back into dance as an adult and it is the highlight of my week. Classes are just the right amount of a challenge for me, without an overly competitive vibe. Victor is so helpful and warm and fun. Now that I have two tiny dancers, I have discovered that V&T actually has superior training to any program I tried in Orange County. As a dancer myself Ot wasn't even a close call. And the families are really warm and supportive of their dancers and of each other. My order at daughter's favorite part of the nutcracker performance has been the dance family that she feels a part of which is so awesome. The teachers push her to excellence, but she loves it and feels their warmth as well as love and guidance from older dancers and now she assists younger dancers as well. I am a dancer and a student at V&T dance. V&T has been my dance family for almost 5 years now, and I can't put into words how grateful I am to be trained by Victor and Tatiana Kasatzky. All of my teachers have truly helped me grow as not only a dancer, but as a person too. If I am being completely honest, tough love and discipline is the only way to grow as a ballerina. It did take time for me to get used to this but in the end I realized that if no one ever pushed me, I would never improve as a dancer. I was very curious about this ballet school and wanted to sign up my daughter for ballet classes and myself too. I sent them an email asking for more information. No one ever wrote me back, it's been 3 weeks now. So I went there personally. I even saw adult ballet class in progress and liked it a lot. I spoke to the teacher and she gave me some information, wrote my contact info down and what classes I would be interested in, with comment that their receptionist will contact me about further process with signing up for classes! I enrolled my now 6 yr old twins last year and they made great progress. I chose this school because I wanted them to learn the real ballet technique and not some "just for fun" dance class. If you are looking for a place for your kids to just "have fun" this isn't for you. This is a school for serious and dedicated dancers on their way to become professional ballerinas/dancers. Ms Karen Woo is AMAZING! I went to the studio for the first time and took a beg/int class last night subbed by her, I feel so welcomed! I have barely taken a few classes at all in the past 15 years since my foot injury. But she made me want to take class regularly again, like what I did since I was 6 years old till I injured myself. I've tried several places and we are happy to call this home. The Vaganova training is excellent and Victor and Tatiana are the real deal. The parents and children are nice, welcoming and supportive. There are great role models so that your child has someone to look up to. The opportunity to be involved in full productions like Nutcracker, etc is fantastic for the dancers to experience. Young students get the care and wonderful instruction from Ms. Karen. They offer free trial classes, don't take my word for it. You will enjoy learning at V&T! read more
