I really, really wanted to like this restaurant! A friend recently recommended them (true story - I have a running list of restaurants to try that I keep adding to from word of mouth), and even said they rivaled our current favorite Italian restaurant in Rochester. So, we came here just a few days later excited for a new spot! Unfortunately, it didn't quite hit the mark. I got the gnocchi which was pretty good (and clearly homemade). However, my boyfriend got chicken Alfredo and the chicken was very clearly raw. He took 1 bite and spit it out because said it was sour and cold. We told our waitress who very promptly took the whole plate back and "warmed it back up." She brought it back, he inspected, and it was still raw (we cut a slice to show her it was both pink and slimy on the inside). We told the waitress who did take it off the bill, but that was pretty gross considering he ate the rest of his pasta. Next, when we ordered, our waitress made it seem soup and salad came with the meals (she had said "soup and salad?" when we ordered, to which I said "it comes with both?" And she distinctly said yes). When we got our bill, the Alfredo was removed but she charged us $5 for each soup AND salad ($20 total). I asked her about this, and referenced how I had specifically asked her when ordering if it came with both. She replied by saying "oh well I usually clarify but must have been rushed." That doesn't exactly seem like that is my problem. She eventually removed one cup of soup, but tried to argue with me about how she technically gave us a larger soup so should've actually charged us more (?). I actually was bothered even more with how she responded in that way. Overall, I don't think we'll be back, and I'm removing it from my restaurant list. Can't complain about food service or ambiance because I cannot even get a reservation. Have called two days in a row and 5 times got a recording to call back later and to NOT leave a message. You couldn't leave a message if you wanted to because the recording then says that the inbox is full. And twice the phone was answered, but I was hung-up on. I wanted a table for 8 on Saturday night but couldn't take a chance on waiting another day to see if I could possibly get through and decided to call the Brook House. They answered on the first ring and 30 seconds later had my reservation. I don't know if they are short staffed or what, but very frustrating. read more

Always been a very consistent place. One of my favorite items there is something you will truly never find anywhere else - Seafood Fra Diavalo with a white sauce. It's really misleading because when I think of white sauce, I think Alfredo or a cream sauce... this is a very unique broth-like sauce. I always order it hot!! It's a rare occasion I get back up this way, so it is a must-have when I do. It's a dish I crave often and once I get it, it never disappoints! Great Italian food! Would love to go back and try more dishes. Appetizer : steamed clams with butter and lemon juice. Simple and delicious. One order wasn't enough for two people. Had to get two. Soup: homemade chicken soup was well made. Entrees : chicken Asiago was juicy. Chicken and vegetables were perfectly soaked in sauce. Two chicken thighs portions were very filling. Chicken jambalaya with linguini with mild spiciness . Overall wonderful dish. Spiciness was at a perfect mild level. The sauce was oily. Still tasted great. Noodles : Had Angel hair Noodles in marinara sauce. Noodles were tasty and on the softer side. Sauce had well balanced acidity. Service : the staff was friendly and professional. Brought refills of drinks very quickly. I appreciated them keeping us updated on when food was arriving frequently. read more

I walked in on a Saturday evening (2/8/20) expecting to wait a while. Restaurant was full, which is definitely a good indicator of how the food tastes. Grabbed menus while we waited. Got added to the "List" and after an hour, we got seated. We placed our orders immediately, snacked on bread (which was delicious), and enjoyed a nice conversation with one another. Our drinks came... even better! Time went by...More time went by. After one hour and 20 minutes after we ordered, our food arrived! After such a long wait, we hoped that the food would be great but, one of the dishes was cold. We asked for the check and took off as soon as we could. I really wanted to love this place. read more

I heard this place had good food, and perhaps at one time it very well may have. That time, however, does not appear to be the present. My first clue, when me, my wife, and son sat down was the body language/behavior/demeanor of the servers. They seemed.... overly wary or nervous, perhaps? They flocked and milled rapidly around each other, scanning deeply into the dark recesses of the place, not unlike a small flock of frequently-hunted birds, or something like that. Covey of extra-alert quail, maybe. Almost like they were used to, and/or expecting explosive customer complaints. Enough about them. The food: My wife's Veal Oscar tasted flavorless as far as the meat goes, and the sauce was just off. Burnt, overcooked baked potato. I had the mini surf & turf, and it was a poor, tiny, VERY deceased lobster tail that was more crayfish-sized. The filet mignon was more medium well than the medium rare I had requested. Not only did it appear to be smaller than the listed 4 ounces, but it was borderline MANGLED, as well. Almost like it was a chunk of flesh ripped off a zebra's posterior by a honey badger. Now, the BEST part: The prices on the menu were different than what was on the actual tab. As in, like four dollars MORE, for my entree. Believe me, that came out of the tip, QUICK. I asked our server why this was so. I won't give what her reply was, because there's really no excuse, anyways. I talked to the head server, I believe is who she was, about this, and she apologized, saying that our server should have mentioned the price difference off the get-go, and that there was a sign on one of the doors outside stating something about price differences. Nice to know, but not my job to do extra research when I sit down to a menu. In summary? Yet another one of many post-Covid restaurant casualties. So many have gone downhill, and you're paying more for less. Skip this place and go somewhere else. read more

Food was only ok to good. The rest was worse- was on time for our reservation and wouldn't seat us at 6:03pm for 6 pm reservation, they wanted us to sit at the bar. I get it $$$ Then my wife and I shared an eggplant parmesan. It's cut like a slice of lasagna with an extra empty plate and charged 8 dollars for splitting- and we had shared two appetizers. I have heard of and driven past Agatina's more times than I can count. They are, if not a fixture of the Italian American community then certainly a very well known and familiar place for a meal. Though familiar with it by reputation, I never had the opportunity to go until a recent rehearsal dinner for a wedding I was in and I as excited to finally get to try it! The first thing you should keep in mind for this review is that the food was being brought out for a good 60 or 70 people, so we should probably be a bit forgiving. There were 3 appetizers, meatballs in an unknown grey gravy, clams casino and stuffed mushrooms. The clams were tiny, like tiny tiny. The meatballs and mystery sauce were ok, though the unknown sauce was kind of unnerving. Last up stuffed mushrooms, they used a sausage stuffing that while a little dry it was pretty tasty. Maybe put a little red sauce on them? For drinks there was some wine, Pepsi and diet Pepsi and water. There was also a champagne toast but that was not self serve. I tried to get pepsi twice only to find that both pitchers were filled with diet. Even though one was labeled normal each time! This is a high sin for me, I detest the flavor of diet soda. *Gag* As more and more people filed in, it became clear that the wedding party and restaurant booked way too many people, in way too small of a room. I don't know if we blame the wedding party or the venue but I'm leaning toward the venue, they should know their space. Who knows, may they were honest and said we just can't take that many people and the wedding party insisted. Either way, it made the room hot, loud, and you felt packed in like sardines. Not an environment conducive to a enjoyable meal. So after we have all had some known and unknown appetizers (what kind of gravy is grey? Mushroom??) we were all seated, we got a bowl of Italian Wedding Soup, it was ok, no complaints. We also had a salad I believe and there was also the always reliable bread and butter, though they were skimpy with the butter and it was packets, which if fine but you DO loose class points. *shrug* Last up was 3 large family style servings of food. A bowl of penne with red sauce, super boring and over sauced for me. Chicken French, a dish I don't personally like. And lastly Eggplant Parmesan. Agatina's is know for this dish, I was not impressed and had almost nothing for dinner. All in all, I dunno if we got lower end food because it was being served to so many people or if this former Rochester gem has lost its luster. Went in at 5pm and was told that we couldn't be seated to 7:45pm because they were booked. They offered us a table in the bar area instead. This was fine with us. We were then sat and a server was helping all the other tables around us for about 10 minutes before the bartender came out and said she would be helping us and took our orders. Drink and food service was so slow we normally have 2 drinks per meal but I refused to get another and spend the money after the slow service. Food was ok, food order was messed up but no one came back over so couldn't have it fixed. We had people waiting to be seated bumping up against our table and us because frankly the table shouldn't be there but we had no idea when offered it. Seems like a money grab to shove as many tables as you can in a restaurant. Probably won't be back. read more

Update: We have ordered take out multiple times since first review and more than a couple times has my chicken dish not been cooked all the way. I even called the restaurant one time to inform them what was going on, sent a picture, and was told "just put it in the oven at 350 for 10 minutes, the pink will cook out". If I wanted to cook that night, I wouldn't have ordered take out. This has never once happened while dining in so that is what we will stick to for now. We still love the food but we do prefer it cooked all the way. read more

Went for dinner on a Friday night and had a great dinner. We were hungry and were seated quickly at 6 pm. We ordered appetizers with drinks. The scallops wrapped in bacon were yummy and the calamari was delish! I had the gnocchi with vodka sauce and a meatball it was soooo good. My boyfriend ordered Delmonico steak, medium. Absolutely delicious. We arrived on time for our reservation and were seated immediately. All staff was wearing masks and wearing them correctly, nice to see. Our waitress was great, her name was Luanne or Leanne. She was knowledgeable about the menu and easily answered our questions. I'll cut to the chase. I was in and out of here in the span of about an hour. Does that seem quick? Yes, very. That's one of the main issues I have here even though some would see this as a positive thing but I see it as a negative. Let me explain. We came at around 5:15pm and were sat immediately and soon after, our orders taken. In what I call just a few minutes later, we were served the salads and the bread a minute later. However, we weren't even finished with the salads when our main entrees came out. A bit to quick for my liking, they really need to slow it down just a tad bit because it didn't even give my family and I time to talk! Minus the speedy service, what makes up for that is the quality of the food. For every Italian restaurant I go to, I order Chicken Parmesan to find out which place has the best one. As of now, Agatina's has the best one I've tasted so far. It's not to big or too small and is just the right size for anyone not wanting a super large portion. I found the sauce and cheeses to be fantastic as it complemented the perfect breading of the chicken. However, the side pasta dish wasn't homemade. I mean is it that hard to make homemade pasta for a side dish? They do offer homemade pasta but only if the item you choose states its homemade. Oh well ,can't have it all I guess but the salad was a lot worse. It was pretty much just lettuce leaves with a random assortment of tomatoes, peppers and chickpeas which I just can't stand. I would recommend the soups instead but based on how quickly the food comes out, you might just want to skip them all together. I sampled some of the Baked Ziti and even though the pasta wasn't homemade, it oozed of cheesy goodness. I would certainly order it for that factor alone but again, not homemade so proceed with caution. The bread was nice, fluffy and light but they don't serve much of it in the basket so make sure to ask for more if you find yourself out of it early on. I actually recommend dipping it in any of their sauces that you have left on your dinner plate, it adds great flavor to the otherwise plain bread. Dessert was interesting. Instead of a traditional dessert menu, they just bring you over a platter of the desserts already made so you can actually see what you are going to get. I went with the Cannoli Cake which is a good sized cake piece with cream and a small cannoli on the side. Next to the Chicken Parm, this was fantastic and made a perfect end to the meal. I did also try the Chocolate Lava Cake and the Crème from my mom and brother and both were well balanced and deliciously delectable. Try to save room for dessert, you really won't regret it. So even though the food had its flaws with the poor salad and the store bought side pasta dish, the cake and the chicken were good enough for me to come back for more and possibly try one of their homemade pasta dishes. My mother's Jumbo Ravioli with butter sauce was stuffed with a great amount of cheese and even topped my dish in taste factor. Problem though? As I stated the service is just to quick. I really urge Agatina's to just slow down a bit so we can actually have time to enjoy the food and let it digest through conversation, this isn't a fast food joint where people want their food seconds after ordering it. However, I will continue to come back because the wait staff while too quick, Is polite, friendly, and attentive. First timers and birthday people even get to spin a wheel to get a free appetizer or dessert for their next visit! It does get crowded here around 5pm but even with that you should have no problem getting a seat if you go on a Friday. I really do urge anyone who hasn't given Agatina's a try in the past to give it a go. It really has now become one of my favorite Italian-American joints in the Rochester area. But I must digress and restate what needs to be changed in two simple words. SLOW DOWN. That is all. read more

We had chicken French over escrow, jumbulyah, and lasagna. The lasagna was good but the other two were below average. Escrow was mushy and the jambalaya was plain and not much meat and seafood. All the prices were high compared to other Italian restaurants. Very disappointed. read more

I am a sucker for Italian food and this place has the real deal. My mom loves choosing to go here for her birthday dinner. Staff is always pleasant. It is a smaller restaurant so be prepared for a wait if you didn't call ahead. There is a nice bar area to grab a drink while you wait but it fills in quickly. The bar tenders are really good at making sure everyone is cared for. I have had so many things to eat there I can't think of one I liked more than the other. Their red sauce is very good, not too much red pepper. I guess I need to go back soon so I can rave about a particular dish! read more

The special was supposed to be chicken shrimp and scallops in a white wine sauce it was more like an Alfredo but less favored. For the price of the food. Not recommend. Our server was awesome. We were seated promptly for our 7:00pm dinner on a busy Friday night. Salad and appetizer of eggplant parm were the best part of my meal. The very thin slices of the eggplant are the way I always love it but rarely get it this thin...so kudos. The red sauce was also to my liking as it was a bit sweet rather than acidic....again much loved. The entree of veal Oscar was too rich for my liking and the veal was a bit tough. You do get quite a lot of food here. My only negative comment would be the too quick clearing of plates from the table...girl asked if we wanted our bread to go and my utensils were almost cleared when I had to stop the girl and told her we didn't even have our entree yet so she had to leave the utensils and the bread! I'd go back, and because I don't have a huge appetite, just order the salad and appetizer of eggplant parm. I may be in the minority but I prefer quality to quantity. read more

We have very mixed reviews for a dinner we had before the 4th of July holiday. The service was very, very slow throughout the whole meal. I assume they might have been short staffed. It was 1 hour and 50 minutes from start to finish, with the shortest part of the wait actually being the wait to get a table. (We had tried to make reservations but we were put on hold and they didn't pick up again for 2 minutes so I hung up.) On to the food...we had a great glass of wine from a decent selection. We ordered an appetizer, crab cakes, which came burned on one side. Luckily, they weren't too bad when covered with lemon juice and slathered with remoulade sauce. The bread on the table was warm and crispy and so good with the salty butter. The second basket was sparse and smooshed. The salads could have been great, but the lettuce was limp and seemed unfresh. It was garnished with some interesting sliced radishes and carrots. On to the main courses...my boyfriend was underwhelmed with his chicken parmigiana and side of pasta with greasy tomato sauce. I had the chicken asiago, which was amazing. It had delicately cooked asparagus spears, artichokes, red peppers, and gooey asiago cheese. The portion was huge and it was hot. Perfect! My side of pasta in red sauce was disappointing as well. Mine wasn't greasy, but the spaghetti noodles seemed like they were sitting for a while and the sauce wasn't flavorful. The food here is amazing! The spices and seasoning are phenomenal. I had the Seafood Provincial and asked for the Fra Diavola sauce (medium spice level). I would say that this was definitely a mild sauce, not spicy at all but still delicious and I have to give it 5 stars. However, I did come here in the past and the medium sauce was actually super spicy. The shrimp, scallops, calamari and clams were cooked to perfection. I love the food!!! read more

We came to have dinner after seeing that Agatina's has space to host rehearsal dinners. Our wedding is in June and we wanted to try the food before booking. We arrived at 7:30 on a Friday night and they were packed, but still able to seat us in about 10 minutes. There is a bar in the front so you can get drinks while you wait. We were seated in the back room, where they actually host events, so that was cool! The service was amazing. Our waitress, Colleen, was so prompt, friendly and funny. We were impressed at the amount of food you get. We got an appetizer, calamari, which was very good. Two soups were delicious, and the salads were just meh- like prepared from a salad kit back, but whatever. The entrees were huge. We ended up taking more than half of each home. SO delicious though. The veal I had was cooked perfectly and my fiancé's seafood Alfredo was tasty. This is definitely "Italian-American" comfort food and shouldn't be compared to authentic Italian like you would have in Italy. For the price, service, and quality we were very happy! read more

We went in for dinner earlier in the evening, which I'd suggest since around 7 it gets very very busy. They have a bar to wait at which is nice and some creative cocktails. I ordered the Crab stuffed Haddock for dinner and my husband ordered the Pasta Platter with gnocchi, lasagna, mannicoti and a meatball. His meal came with soup and a salad, just as every pasta dish does. My meal came with a choice of soup or salad and I had the chicken soup. It was good, nothing too exciting but definitely not bad. My husband had their clam chowder, there wasn't a lot of clams to it, but he said the flavor was still good. My dinner was good, it was drizzled on what seemed to bea light French sauce, and the fish was cooked wonderfully. The fish didn't have skin either which was good because most haddock around Rochester has skin on. The "stuffing" was laid on top of the filet abd was okay. The flavor was good but there wasn't much stuffing. I got the side of broccoli with my meal. They suffer their broccoli with what seemed like a garlic butter which I wasn't fond of because of the amount of garlic but my husband loved it. My husband said all of his pastas were good, but there was nothing stand out that he would comment on. I did try his Gnocchi and they were pretty good compared to other places around Overall, it wasn't bad, but it wasn't anything I'd rave on about. read more

Decent restaurant overall. But I believe the prices are a bit high and the food isn't all that flavorful. Portion sizes are pretty good, and staff was very friendly. Many people in the area rave about Agatina's, but I thought it was fairly average and there's better Italian not far away. They do have a gluten free menu, but the menu prices I'm guessing haven't been updated because I was charged $2 more on the bill. The entrees do come with soup or salad, but New England clam chowder is an up-charge (an up-charge?! even diners don't up-charge the clam chowder). Oh, and bleu cheese dressing is 75 cents extra! read more

This is a little far for us to go for dine-in, but has been a staple for their catering. Their chicken--parmaigiana or French--is very very good. We've used them several times and these favorites and their other dishes and sides have never disappointed. Not haute by any stretch, but a solid Italian offering in a town with a lot of Italian restaurants. read more
