Everything we tried was full of flavor and clearly made with care, and you can really tell they don't hold back when it comes to seasoning. The food was fresh, satisfying, and exactly what you want when you're looking for a great meal. They are very busy all the time, so calling ahead is definitely a good idea. Inside dining is limited, so be aware of that if you're planning to eat in. That said, the hustle is clearly for a reason--the food is worth it. By far the best chicken Riggie's and chicken Parm you will find anywhere. I love that they've adopted using plates consistently now instead of the "to go" containers while you're dining inside the restaurant. Food this good deserves to be jazzy and dressed pretty. Why the five star you ask? Because sometimes simple is better. The way this restaurant has faced Covid & rebounded from other challenges is amazing. It is a small restaurant To begin with and like others they have had to go completely take out for now. They have done so while keeping a wide menu selection. They did not bow to impersonal online ordering methods with time constraints, limited options and long wait times. And most importantly they kept a high energy positive attitude in the face of adversity. The quality of food with takeout is still good (I have noticed other places where I can't say that ) and they have maintained fair and reasonable pricing which is more competitive than others. It's paying off! My wife and I have noticed the word of mouth positive vibe is quick spreading around town. I ordered the chicken Florentine and rainbow cake for desert for delivery Saturday night. The cake was delicious and tasted exactly like the napoleon cookie which was the goal. The Florentine was okay, it was my first having it when I didn't cook it so my opinion is very biased. I'm use to it being more creamy, this was mainly a butter sauce. It was good, the chicken was cooked very well and it's a large portion size just not what I am use to. The main reason for my 3 stars was the delivery time, it was around 545pm Saturday when I ordered so I expected a 45-60 min wait, once my order was placed it said it should arrive by 6:35pm however my delivery time changed several times (I was texted 3 different delivery times) and ended up being delivered at 7:30 pm, an hour after the original time. I fully understand that orders are cooked fresh and there is no Chef Mic in back but I would have appreciated a more accurate time estimate. read more

Now for the bad.. the chicken Marsala was Not breaded! & the creamy wine sauce was anything but creamy in fact it was very thin and wasn't impressive in any way, more mushrooms would have been nice but really not that important at this point. Picture this, 1989 Webster, New York, two girls enter a restaurant that looks like a soap opera set of an Italian eatery. They sit down at a giant table to eat giant bowls of underwhelming pasta on a plastic checkered table cloth. Ok, it wasn't 1989- it was today, but my guess is it hasn't changed! I had heard good things about the Garlic Pit when asking around about good Italian food in Rochester. I love the Rochester downtown version of Italian restaurant (i.e burrata and wood fired pizza with a few mains with an Italian twist). This is the exact opposite situation. The menu is all pasta and sauce with a few classic dishes. I gave it two stars because The Garlic Pit doesn't try to misrepresent itself in any way. We started with eggplant sticks, which were offered on the mixed appetizer plate, but they made them for us solo, which I appreciated. We ordered entrees which came with a salad and garlic bread. The salad was limp bagged lettuce with a few onions, a slice of cucumber and Italian dressing. The garlic bread was a bland sub roll with a smear of oil and very little garlic salt. This bread got much worse as soon as it was cold. Based on the name I expected garlic to feature prominently in the menu, the bread or at least in the air- not so. Entrees were the Penne Arrabbiatta and the Cheese Tortellini. The dishes were massive, and I may be alone in this, but I don't want a huge dish of food because I will absolutely waste it. I'll eat a bit and wrap it to be polite and then look at it in my fridge for a week and throw it out. I'd rather have a normal portion of good food. I think the Penne had easily a pound of pasta on it. The tortellini was smaller but the sauce didn't have a lot of flavor and the pasta was a bit over cooked. The service was great and the restaurant was clean, but we won't be back. I wish I had saved the $40 bucks and gotten a pizza! read more

Good food but slow service. We were here with a fairly large party during a weeknight, with reservations. It took a few minutes to get seated, many more (like 30) to get waters, and so on. It took about two hours to get through the meal. That being said, my boyfriend and I were both very happy with our food. The bread to start was soft and fresh and came with homemade garlic butter that packed a punch. The salad was served family style and was dressed with olive oil and vinegar, just like my Italian grandparents used to do it. I am not sure if the pizza log and cheese stick apps were made in house, but they were crispy, cheesy, and served piping hot with a side of marinara. The prices were great...and the waitress went above and beyond to be able to use the multiple coupons we brought. My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our dishes. I got a spicy chicken riggie special that was loaded with hot peppers and onions. He got the massive chicken parm which he thought was crispy, not greasy, and a great deal at $13. We both had ample leftovers. The rest of the party was underwhelmed, saying that the chicken French was soggy, lacked flavor, and that one order (which came out incorrectly and then was fixed after a somewhat lengthy wait) was partially cold. The food here is AMAZING!!!! Everyone in our group was thrilled with their dinner choices, and we all got different things (chicken and eggplant parm combo, chicken French, artichoke French, and Shrimp Antoinetta). Even the bread and butter was delicious. Our friends wanted to save their leftover homemade garlic butter to eat the next day. The portions were very generous and the prices were extremely reasonable. The service was excellent as well. We ordered in advance for an early pickup and we only had to wait about 2 minutes when we arrived. I was impressed! This is incredible because this is a small, family owned restaurant and all the food is made fresh for each order. You can taste the care that goes into every meal. Setting the scene, it's a drizzly Thursday night in January. We've driven by The Garlic Pit quite a few times, remembering when we went ~10 years ago. We finally decided to try it again. Around 6:30 we swing open the door, causing the 3 tables that were occupied to look toward us. We were seated and had drinks in a timely manner. Sodas are served in cans at $1.50 each - a pretty penny given the profitability of soda fountains. Around 6:45 we ordered; two chicken parms and a chicken marsala. Salad is included but was bleak, simple oil and vinegar. Garlic bread is simply some butter on a sub roll with garlic powder. The time is now 7:30 and the dinner has finally arrived and one table has come and gone. The marsala lived up to expectations. Chicken parm was breaded well, very flavorful, and stuck to the chicken which was cooked perfectly. More than expected for the $12. The pasta sides, of which your options are penne or penne, was slightly over cooked and a little mushy. Sauce was good, exactly what would be expected. For those of you looking for the main points: Soda is expensive with no free refills, portions are large and chicken is done well, pasta over cooked and with a name with Garlic prominent the garlic bread could be better. read more

Second time here did not disappoint. Loved all the meals, appetizers and dessert. Our waiter David was awesome. Sorry no pics of our meals but we had a Shrimp Dish with linguini, chicken French sandwich with greens and cheese, eggplant and chicken parm, fried calamari and fried ravioli and their tripe. This was our first trip to the Garlic Pit and most likely the last...As of this review they're only serving take-out and that's fine and has nothing to do with this review, just an FYI...Okay so we ordered Chicken French, Eggplant Parm and Italian Sausage with peppers and onions...First off the sauce on the Chicken French was more like orange/lemon flavored water over tan brown ziti, brown ziti?...The chicken although cooked properly was totally washed out by terrible sauce...The sausage and peppers was yet another disappointment...I have never had Italian sausage cut up into almost peperoni slices when ordering this dish anywhere else and the sauce was bland...Now the true star of the show was the eggplant parm, truly spectacular in everyway, tasty and not bitter, bravo for that...I know some folks who swear by this spot but I now question their pallets regarding restaurants...But for me and my family we'll take a pass and find another spot for Italian cuisine... read more

The harsh fluorescent lighting makes it feel like a warehouse. I asked our waitress how the lasagna was, how the spaghetti and meatballs were, but she said she never had it, even though she has worked there for a year and a half. I asked her if she was vegetarian, she said "no, but you know what it's like if you're around the stuff all day." That's not a good sign. It must be bad if you NEVER even wanted to try it in all that time. The same waitress cleaned a table right behind us, and sprayed so much windex in doing so that a mist of chemicals washed over to our table. I watched her clean another table and she inadvertently sprayed windex on the salt, pepper and other condiments. ugh. The tomato sauce was sorta watery. Not fresh pasta, dried. The worst customer experience I have ever had. Though I would say no fault to the waitress, she has to deal with a horribly managed restaurant. 3 employees to serve the entire place. I am not joking.... 1 hour and 35 minutes before we received our food. There are only about 15 tables total, after about an hour....it dawned on me that not a single table had their food. No one had food, how is this possible? The waitress actually told people (not us unfortunately) to leave when they walked in knowing they would not be happy due to the wait. Obviously something was going on in the kitchen that was unusual - it would have been better to close for the evening rather than lose customers.. I was without a drink for 45 minutes, unacceptable. All I heard was, thanks for your patience. No extra effort to make it right. No comps for such an awful experience. Absolutely ridiculous. Completely unfortunate, you have lost a customer and I know I am not the only one because I heard grumbling from others throughout the restaurant. How was the food? Honestly, average and did not meet the expectations from my past experiences here. Somebody needs to step up and do the obvious things to make this place thrive.
