I had heard nothing but rave reviews about Agatina's for years, so I figured it was finally time to see what all the hype was about. The restaurant itself has an old-fashioned vibe to it which I was kinda into. You know, trays laid out with dessert examples, traditional place settings, etc. The menu is extensive with numerous pasta options, chicken, veal, & seafood choices. Word to the wise, every entrée comes with soup & salad so be prepared to be extremely full by the end of your meal. Full and full of salt. My biggest critique was the salt lick that came with everything I ordered. The soup was like eating spoonful after spoonful of salt. The pasta mimicked this as well just in bigger portions. My date of the evening ordered flour less chocolate cake for dessert that was covered with a salted caramel sauce, which under normal circumstances would be delicious, but paired with 3 previous dishes of extreme salt proportions was almost unpalatable. The atmosphere was fun, the service was not bad, and honestly I would give it one more try. Maybe it was the chef of the evening, maybe I ordered the wrong items... but I have my suspicions that sodium is the name of the game at Agatina's. read more

Decent restaurant overall. But I believe the prices are a bit high and the food isn't all that flavorful. Portion sizes are pretty good, and staff was very friendly. Many people in the area rave about Agatina's, but I thought it was fairly average and there's better Italian not far away. They do have a gluten free menu, but the menu prices I'm guessing haven't been updated because I was charged $2 more on the bill. The entrees do come with soup or salad, but New England clam chowder is an up-charge (an up-charge?! even diners don't up-charge the clam chowder). This is a little far for us to go for dine-in, but has been a staple for their catering. Their chicken--parmaigiana or French--is very very good. We've used them several times and these favorites and their other dishes and sides have never disappointed. Let me first say I love the food here. So many choices and truly Italian. Like other diners complained the service can be very slow. Last night was terrible. The two of us Were seated at 6pm and got our simple pasta dinners at 7:30. The staff said that our server had big parties. That is a management problem and should not have affected our dinner. Very torn about this place, met a friend after work last night, place was kind of empty but filled up quickly. I ordered Chicken Parmesan which was incredible, however it came out before I was even 1/2 way through my salad! I cannot stand feeling "pushed" in a restaurant. I don't eat slowly, my friend even checked her fish to see if it was cooked as it came out so fast. Also our drinks were never refilled, coffee and soda refills are not hard to do. On a good note, menu is extensive, place is nice, clean, upscale, a little pricey but the food is worth it. However speedy service should be at a drive thru not a sit down restaurant and service could be better. So would go back if in area, but not my first choice to go. read more

Been a fan for years, and never had a bad meal here. Prices are great, take out is fantastic, good crowd, decent in size to always get a table. Busy times require a short wait, but there is a large bar to kill the time. Menu has some very good options and original ingredients/creations. On our summer trip to Rochester, we were looking forward to our family dinner taking place at Agatina's. While I have had their catering many times this was my first time dining there and it ended up a very disappointing experience for me, as it had been built up as the most wonderful Italian in Rochester by all my relatives and came no where close to wonderful. We had 8 people at dinner and everyone in our party was unhappy in one course or another. The broccoli french was too egg-y, when it should have been light and fluffy. My chicken french had a nice flavor, but the chicken itself was so hard, I couldn't even cut it with a knife, let alone chew it. My Aunt's Shrimp was totally bland and season-less. My grandmother's veal Parmesan was tough. We all agreed the sauce on the pasta was very bitter. I thought the greens and beans were good, but not the best I've had. I'm very sad for this place, I hope they improve to be back to the standards they are famed for. read more

I used to love this place. Had a few lackluster meals here a while back and figure with so many great Italian restaurants in the area it wasn't worth coming back. Fast forward to last Saturday evening. My wife and I were in the vicinity and decided to give Agatina's another shot. My Wife's meal was good, Prime Rib done exactly how she likes. Unfortunately for me I went for the Cioppino. Could not taste anything but salt and the sauce had been thickened with what I am guessing was cornstarch which made for a totally off-putting texture. So basically it was pasta in a jelly-ish, slimy liquid saltlick. Sorry to say this was one of the worst dishes I have ever had. Also, in my humble opinion, you have to wonder about an Italian restaurant choses to use a jarred salad dressing as their "House Dressing" instead of actually making it in-house. Based on one visit: I would have given the restaurant 5 stars. Definitely have reservations for busy nights. Great drink selection, bread with your dinner (yum), salad with your meals. Great price for dinners with salads included. My chicken parm - probably the best I've ever had! Perfect crunchy, cheesy, tender and juicy!! The chicken French was missing something in flavor, couldn't put my finger on it though. Still juicy and well cooked. The downside. We brought a small cake in for a birthday. $10 cake fee. $10!!!?!?? That's ridiculous. $5, yeah sure. But the cake sat on our table, I cut it, I served it. And your charging me the price on the whole cake I brought. I think that's really low. read more

We love Agatinas food. They have a great gluten free menu and are very careful about cross contamination. Love the gluten free gnocchi and gluten free rolls! They usually have a gluten free dessert available as well. Always solid good food, good portions for price. read more

My experience along with my dinner guests was less than satisfying. We ordered the calamari Reggio appetizer which came smothered in a sweet poppyseed sauce. Not only was it was cloyingly sweet, it was loaded with poppy seeds which were not listed on the menu as an ingredient. I, as well as many other people, have reactions to poppy seeds. I never had a plate of calamari like that, and when I mentioned it to the server that it was inedible to me, she dismissed my comment and said that it was one of the favorite dishes, everyone loved it, and the cook was Sicilian. Hmmm. Later on she flew by our table and asked if everything was alright, but didn't even stop to wait for a reply. The chicken soup was watery, and they're was nary a piece of seafood to be found in the seafood chowder. One of my dinner guests and I both ordered the Bolognese sauce which was salty and overpowered the little bit of spaghetti under it, even though I requested linguini. My dinner guest said she was itching all night after eating that dish and said that the only time she itches like that is when she's had MSG in her food. I can't say for certain that they use MSG, and I can't imagine that they would, but who knows. Never again will I or my dinner guests step foot in Agatina's. read more

We ordered for take out for a special birthday, we have eaten here pre covid and loved it. That said this was by far the worst $200 spent. We ordered the pasta platter that was soo salty and everything tasted the same, the chicken French definitely did not have wine just butter and chicken stock, chicken Alfredo was ok, and chicken Oscar was good. They forgot a side salad and soup, timing was good but for that money there are plenty of other Italian places to order from. We ordered 5 desserts and would not recommend one. I had the Seafood Tortellini special and it tasted great but after a little bit, it just sat in my stomach and I got home and was very sick. My hubby brought me here for my birthday. Our dinner was fantastic. I had chicken livers for an appetizer, melt in your mouth good. The clam chowder was perfect. I ordered the Cioppino with the white wine sauce which was perfectly chucked full of scallops, shrimp and clams and the hubby had Veal Alaska which was yummy as well. This place is incredible. I have been here a couple of times and everything is good. Tonight I had the Jambalaya (picture attached) and it is by far the best I've had in rochester. Before I get to the main course, let me describe what else comes with the meal. Of course there is bread - good Italian bread with butter. Don't eat too much, cause the food just keeps coming .... next you get a cup of soup. Their standard is a chicken base soup - very good. Tonight I went for their other option - loaded baked potato. A cream based soup with tons of potatoes and topped with a ton of cheese. Ready for the main course? Hold on there sparky ... not yet. You also get a house salad. Complete with greens, chick peas, radish, cukes, tomato and banana pepper rings. Finally the main course arrives! As I said - I had the jambalaya - the chicken was good an moist and not the majority of the dish. The scallops were huge - think inch thick and silver dollar round along with plenty of shrimp. Very disappointing. Cold anti pasta was salad and 2 pieces of meat. Where were the peppers and cheese? Pasta primavera was made with frozen vegetables during a summer time when fresh veggies are plentiful. Marina was runny. My family and I have enjoyed going here in the past. Not sure if they are cheapening their ingredients due to covid. Service however was excellent although we complained about the anti pasta and should have been comped. read more

We had Christmas Eve catered by Agatina's Restaurant. We ordered meatballs, white vegetable lasagna and a red sauce meat lasagna. Well where do we we start? The meat balls tasted like repurposed cat food. Then on to the white lasagna which was enough to make the cast of the Saprano's come back to life and stab someone for making a mockery of Italian food. The red lasagna was a dose of Italian death. The noodles were over cooked and soggy and loose. The sauce was nothing but Ragu canned sauce. Everything was lack luster. My Mother In-Law and Father In-Law order this food to be catered and it was intended to be cooked upon pickup. It was defrosting like a pale body from the morgue. Note this was meant to feed 8 people and almost all of the food went untouched unless you were a garbage man. We ate plenty of bread that night. read more

Don't order this through Grubhub, apparently neither them nor the restaurant apparently check the orders. Food arrived cold because delivery person was waiting on others orders to deliver as well. If ice cold food wasn't bad enough, we were missing multiple items from our order. Restaurants phone goes to voicemail and Grubhub is experiencing high call volumes so no food and our money is down the drain. Grubhub also upcharges all items, total was $20 more than it would be if we got ourselves. read more

It was alright but there are definitely better Italian restaurants in Rochester for the price. Most of it comes down to their marinara sauce. I can't quite describe it but it's very different. If you really like it you're going to love Agatina's, if you're like me and found it to be a bit off then you're probably not going to like your food very much. I just talked with my Cousin Angelina and I am appalled over hearing about the experience she had eating at Agatina's Restaurant in Gates, NY. Her, her boyfriend and daughter were having dinner there this week and they were treated horribly by there server. They ordered a Steak and Lobster dinner and when they received it, the Steak was undercooked and the Lobster was overcooked. When they pointed it out to the Server she was very nasty about it, took the food, and did not return back to there table for over 20 minutes. When they finally received there food it was late and they had to take it to go. The bill was well over $100.00 and they still left a $20.00 tip despite the horrible service they received. (because they are classy people) As they were leaving my cousin said to her boyfriend that she couldn't believe how horrible the service was. This was overheard by the Server who confronted my Cousin and said to her that the problem was that my Cousin did not have enough class to eat at her Restaurant. This was overheard by both staff and customers as well as my cousin's little girl. My cousin's contacted the owner about the incident and the owner was defensive of the Server and not apologetic until she was asked for a apology. First I would like to make clear that Agatina's is far from a classy establishment. I know that they have been around a long time and have built up a good clientele. Maybe the problem is that they have become so comfortable with that, they have stopped providing good food and customer service to ALL there customers. Our family has had many events there and I have always felt that there food was mediocre at best and the service has never been exceptional. After this incident I will never go back to this Restaurant, nor will I ever recommend it to anyone. It is important that all businesses do there best when providing service to All There Customers, regardless of how established they may be. This is a delicious old school Italian restaurant. It's a little worn around the edges, but that's because it's a beloved local favorite. I've tried several things - all of them have been delicious. If anything, it errs on the side of being rather bland rather than spicy. The several times I've gone it's been in a party of four and the food comes out pretty fast. We also always leave with at least two carry out boxes of food for the next day. The house salad with house vinaigrette is a fave. Service is efficient and quick, but not overly friendly and chatty. My roommate follows a gluten free diet which can make finding an Italian restaurant we can both eat at difficult. Agatina's provides a good variety of gluten free options and their regular menu has a great variety of choices to choose from as well. The downside to our visit was that we had a 7:15 reservation and we didn't get seated until 8:00. Luckily the bar area had an open spot where we could hang out while we waited to be seated. I had the chicken parmesan with a side of gnocchi which was delicious and my roommate had the gluten free version which she liked was well! Agatina's is one of the top restaurants in Rochester if you're looking for quality, authentic Italian food. They have great portion sizes and entrees which I can never finish. They also have a good wine selection which is a must when eating a hearty pasta dish. My boyfriend and I love the calamari which is tossed in a delicious sauce! I've decided: 40+years in Rochester and meals at.. oh I don't know, billions of Italian restaurant visits and Agatina's is my fav. The first time I went to Agatina's I was with my sister and a friend and we had the BEST EVER server. She was gregarious, funny, engaging, informative, efficient... and for the love....I can't remember her name! I found this appetizer that visit... stuffed greens.. which is greens mixed with breadcrumbs and flavor deliciousness that blew me away. It was huge and I had it as my dinner and had a big lunch the next day with the leftovers. Omg. I've had a really hard time not ordering it on every other visit but I've resisted and I'm glad I did. EVERYTHING I've tried has been amazing. That SAUCE!!! I'm not Italian so I didn't grow up having great sauce on a regular basis but this is consistently... really, really good. Please forgive me for not remembering the dishes "titles" but I've had a lasagna type meal with pepperoni that I lost my damn mind over and a real manicotti made with the crepes that again... crazy good! The bar is small but stocked and there are always a number of domestic and non on tap, wine... friendly, attentive bar tenders and my favorite.. a little coat room. (Don't ask me why.. I just love being able to hang up my damn coat) The atmosphere is a little loud but not majorly bothersome and it looks like ur typical Italian cute restaurant with tiny lights as decoration. The reason I gave 5 stars is because yesterday we ordered for pick up and they gave us wrong food but they more than made up for it by allowing us to keep wrong food they gave us and gave us free cheesecake and a few punch cards. Agatinas is a great place right in Gates, NY. We went there on Good Friday with a larger party. They sat us right on time. The wait staff was excellent and very patient considering we had two young kiddos with us. The artichoke French is delicious!! The salad was good but WAY too much dressing . I ordered the broiled haddock with a side of pasta. It was just what I was looking for. The others at the table ordered chicken dishes and the portions were huge! Dessert was the shining star. I had the cannoli cake and boy it was so yummy!!! The price is right and the setting is casual. The only reason I didn't give the full 5 stars is because the menu is very large and overwhelming. read more
