Came to El Rancho Grande to watch a football game and grab some food. The nachos supremos were really good, loaded with beef, chicken, beans, and all the toppings. The chiles rellenos were super cheesy and came with rice and beans. They bring chips and red salsa as soon as you sit down (always a plus). I have been eating at this local group of chain restaurants for more than 25 years, including Cincinnati locations. It has never been that great, but it is close to where I currently live in Centerville and super convenient. About once per year, we will frequent this location. I have to say this week will be our final visit. Pretty much every single aspect of the experience was not good. We were sat at a dirty table that was never cleaned when they were plenty of clean tables around. The chips were stale and unsalted. The salsa tasted like tomato paste with nothing fresh in it. The fajitas were sad little pieces of chicken and steak with very little flavor and were not even close to sizzling. No fresh lime. Nada. I think I counted two baby grilled onions in the mix. The flour tortillas that came with fajitas were not even cooked. They were totally raw. The soft drinks were flat. The pico de gallo was sadly unappealing - poorly chopped, and it was not fresh. We left most of our meal. As we were checking out, there were some little tiny bits of candy you could purchase as you paid your check. We grabbed a bite-sized Kitcat and a bite-sized Heath. As one final insult, we were charged $.75 for each piece of what was probably leftover Halloween candy. The joke is on us, but we will not be coming back here again. We were trying to think of a restaurant with a nice patio since it was such a beautiful evening, so we thought we'd give El Rancho Grande a try. Turns out it was a great choice! We were seated over at a secluded area of the patio, away from everyone else which was really nice. Our server brought us a huge bowl of chips and salsa-their salsa is very good. Hubby got an enchilada platter and I got a ground beef taco ($3) and a chicken enchilada ($3.50) He liked his enchiladas a lot and I couldn't believe how good my $7.50 dinner was! The good: the food is delicious. I prefer the Burrito California with steak. It comes with beans in and rice inside as well as guacamole. The chips are good and the salsa Is good but I can't eat it anymore because of my acid reflux however I don't blame the restaurant for that. The restaurant has an authentic ambiance and feel, and the staff are always friendly. The bad: Lately the prices for everything have gone up quite a bit. It's still worth checking out though. And I ALWAYS recommend this over El Toro. read more

Great night to have dinner outside. I remembered this place had a fun patio as well as a roof deck patio. We opted for the shaded side and were seated in a nice private area. The landscaping and flowers really added to feel of the place. I had the enchiladas Banderas. Three enchiladas with ground meat, steak and pulled chicken each with a different sauce. The top shelf margarita was very well made and a bit boozy. Overall a very good night and welcome back to eating outdoors after the heat wave. We will be back soon! read more

Several waitresses were crowding in the bathroom talking and fixing their hair and spraying perfume everywhere. Ok, maybe it's just shift change but I thought it was odd that they did not utilize an employee restroom to get ready for their shift or move away from the mirror so I could wash my hands. Our server was bland and not very friendly. We got our food and needed several things, about 10 mins had passed since we received our food and our server still hadn't checked on us. There were only a couple tables in the restaurant. I got up to go ask for what I needed and found my server chit chatting with two other servers. One of the servers tapped my server on the shoulder and said your table needs something. My server rolled her eyes and said 'ugh'. Your job is to be a waitress, not gossip. We ordered take out from here, it was a long wait for the food--about 50 minutes. I ordered the #12 combo, two chili relleno with rice, beans, and chips. I didn't really like the chips that much, and the salsa is bland. The rice and beans though were good. The star of the show was the chili relleno though, so many places in the area don't make them properly. They actually do here. They were properly battered and fried and had plenty of cheese inside. A very good place with good service and great taste. The salsa was good a bit on the sweeter end. The spicy sauce elevated the flavor. Both of our dishes 1. Cama Al chile de was awesome and good luck to it. The gauc and the salad were very fresh. 2.Del Mar Trio was also amazing. Again I need the house made spicy sauce. The corn tortillas were awesome. Their children were running with no supervision and opening and banging the adjacent gate repeatedly. When we asked them to stop they became belligerent. Very poorly managed and staffed. Ordered the molcajete and it was the first place I've found around here that made it FLAVORFUL! It was delicious and the did not skimp on the meat. I will definitely be back for this!! Had plenty of yummy leftovers due to size of the dish.The mango margarita was Delicious as well. Prices were high especially for the drinks,but I'll gladly pay a bit more for flavor! We ate outside in their large outdoor area. The chairs had bird droppings on them, otherwise it was a pleasant outside area. We ordered off the lunch menu so prices were reasonable but I looked at non-lunch prices and they seemed a little pricey. Food and service were good with the chips although warm, weren't particularly tasty. Salsa was good and plentiful. All staff had masks and seemed Covid aware. I gave this a 4 for the taste of the food. It was good but not delightful. I rated the serice a 1. They kept bringing out the same ole dwrong order for 2 of the 4 guests. After the third time they tried peddeling the wrong order the 2 guest just gave up and said leave it here. Who knows how long the pony show would have gone on. The problem is you can get a #18 dinner or an 18 lunch and they are different meals. Even though we pointed at what we wanted from the menue it still got all messed up. I'm really not a fan of this chain at all. I really only frequent here because my mother in law swears by it. I'm still unsure if there ground beef is actual beef or might be cat, dog or horse. It really tastes funny and I don't just think it's the spices. My mother did not like the tamales at all we told the server and she didn't seem to care she just brought us a box. I have had there chicken soup which is decent. I do love there chips and salsa. The chicken enchiladas or anything chicken is the way to go (stay away from that funny tasting beef). The decor and service is always great. Maybe if they made there dishes more flavorful and there beef wasn't questionable I would be able to give more stars. read more

First visit to El Rancho Grande. Our server was great. He was quick and courteous, kept our waters filled, and was attentive all throughout the meal. El Rancho Grande serves free chips & salsa. The chips were warm and the salsa had the right amount of spiciness. Not too spicy, but not bland! Very tasty. I got the Mushroom quesadilla plate, with rice & beans. The quesadilla was delicious, and the rice & beans were so good! My super picky nephew really liked his chicken & cheese quesadilla. That's quite a feat, he hasn't liked other restaurants quesadillas. The ambiance was nice, and had lovely Mexican tiles. This place has your average, run of the mill, Mexican food. The menu is large and they have lots of lunch specials but the price is a bit high. From our experience tonite, do not order thru the Yelp app online system using GrubHub for pickup. Ordering online was easy and informative but the restaurant had no clue about the order, if it had been paid for, etc. Would have been much faster walking in and ordering at the counter. Appears that most people call in their pickup orders. The food wasn't the problem. And, the manager was not available tonite (Saturday) to ask for assistance. read more

First off I was seated promptly, brought chips that tasted really like they were cooked in old frying oil. The salsa was mediocre. I ended up ordering the enchiladas 3 cheese with shredded beef on top. The enchiladas were very small with a pinch of shredded beef on top. I ordered double rice instead of beans, it was sparse. the enchiladas were very hard and chewy. I wasn't excited about that nor the amount of shredded beef. I saw a pic on the menu that's why I ordered my entree out of the million things to choose from. It didn't look anything like the picture or even taste good at all. The hostess also had to keep refilling. my tea cause my server was never around barely. I tried the 2nd time to be a happy camper at a new location and still I'm not satisfied. We went here on a Sunday afternoon for lunch and the place wasn't crowded when we sat down, but got more crowded before we left. The food was good and the service was great. They offer outdoor seating, which would be nice if it was a nice day outside. The only thing I would have liked was more chips and salsa. We finished off our first basket and were not brought more and this is one of my favorite parts of eating at El Rancho.
