I really hate writing this review because I remember Agave & Rye when it first opened in Covington and I was genuinely impressed. Was it authentic Mexican food? No. But that wasn't really the point. It was creative, fun, and, most importantly, the food was GOOD. I still remember those original chips thin, crispy, fresh and almost addictive. The pico was vibrant and fresh, the flavors were balanced, and the birria was easily my favorite thing on the menu. Not every taco or dish was amazing, but I never left feeling like I'd had a bad meal. Over the years, I've probably stopped back in once a year or so, and unfortunately, each visit seemed to come with another noticeable decline in quality. Still, I kept trying it again because I remembered what Agave & Rye used to be. Then came today. We started with the crab cake bites. I'm sure there was crab somewhere in them, but the amount of cheese completely overwhelmed everything else. Then there were the chips. If you remember Agave & Rye's original chips, you'll understand my disappointment. These tasted mass-produced in the worst possible way and were nothing like what originally made them memorable. We also tried the steak egg rolls. They weren't technically inedible, but that's about the nicest thing I can say. The steak tasted frozen, the filling was mushy, and the entire thing tasted and felt like it had been prepared long before it ever reached our table. For my entrée, I ordered the Filthy Fajita, and this was where I was genuinely confused. Conceptually, I understand what they were trying to do. But the execution was dismal. The steak didn't taste or look as though it had ever touched a grill. It was pale, chewy and completely flavorless almost as if it had been boiled. Then it was piled into a mixture of onions, queso and Mexican rice that all became one big mush of textures and flavors. Had the steak actually been grilled with some char and seasoning, and had the individual ingredients maintained some texture and identity, I could probably have given the dish a 6/10. What I was served was honestly closer to a 2/10. Even the pico and salsa were disappointing. The pico was unevenly chopped with large pieces of onion overpowering everything else, and neither had the bright, fresh flavor I remembered. The salsa tasted more like puréed tomatoes than a finished salsa. My husband ordered three tacos, including the Bee's Knees and, I believe, the Alderman. His reaction was similar. The chicken was dry and tasteless, and his overall impression was that everything tasted frozen rather than freshly prepared. And that's ultimately the issue. Agave & Rye built its reputation on food that was unconventional, over the top and FUN but there was quality behind the gimmick. Somewhere along the way, that seems to have been lost. I still appreciate the atmosphere and their bar selection, but when it comes to the food, this was beyond disappointing. After giving it several chances over the years, sadly, this will likely be our last visit. I genuinely wish that weren't the case, because the Agave & Rye I remember from those early Covington days was something special. read more

The food is always incredible, and I consistently get some of the best service, even though they're almost always busy. New Years Eve dinner with friends. We only had to wait about 15 min for a table for 6. This menu has so many great options! We all chose to do flights so we could each try 3 different flavors. I tried The Gangsta, The Filthy Fajita, and The Smokeshow. They were all good, but The Smokeshow was my favorite by far. Sooooo good! I also tried the corn fritters. The only reason why Agave & Rye is getting two stars instead of one star is the manager actually listened and offered a sincere apology. We asked for a table on the patio. Tables inside as well as on the patio didn't seem too busy. We waited 13 minutes without anyone coming by and offering to take a drink or food order. NOTHING. I should have asked for a manager at the restaurant, but instead I waited until I was in the car. He was very apologetic and offered a sincere apology. Maybe it's the large big box restaurants that don't care about customer service. It's been a while since we have been here, we were looking for something different. My wife commented that she wished there was an option to build your own taco. She was able to have substitutes for her taco. Since it was Taco Tuesday, I was able to get tacos for a reduced price. The bees knees epic size and the bang bang epic size tacos were delicious. Been here twice now, pretty good tacos and are decently sized. Looking at the menu, I do like the different types of tacos available but I'm a picky eater so I just stuck with plain Jane. We always love going to Agave & Rye because of the amazing food and the cool ambiance and chose the Liberty location for my hubby's birthday. The service was great and we had a very sweet waitress but I didn't care too much about our table. We were seated on the 'patio/balcony' area that was inclosed with a removable wall to keep the cold air out. It was still super drafty despite the heaters on the ceiling and we could feel the very cold January air on your legs and feet. I was also surprised to see that the gratuity was already build in on our check. Yes we were a party of six but a family. The food was amazing but - I very much prefer the Hamilton location over this one simply because we always have such great experiences there. read more

Checked out Agave & Rye with my family and some friends on a recent Sunday night. I had not been here so was excited to check it out. It has a cool atmosphere but the service was just ok. My wife had a Jalapeño margarita that had no kick from the Jalapeño at all. The pick 3 sauces with chips were good but it is hard to mess that up. I thought the tacos were good but not great. I think that the tacos are way over the top and that is done to justify the price. Cool atmosphere and I probably will give them another try at some point in the future. read more

I always enjoy the food at Agave. They do a fantastic job keeping their menu new and fresh. The margaritas can be hit or miss for me depending on which is ordered. I am not a fan of super sweet and some are too sweet for my taste. The jalapeño pineapple is my go to if you like spicy with a hint of sweetness. read more

HOLY TACO HEAVEN! My daughter suggested this to me since I had never been. The atmosphere was so cool! Very...urban? Hostess was adorable. Server was as well. Soooo helpful since she knew I was a newbie. FREE VIDEO GAMES TOO!!! We ordered two flights of tacos. Every darn one was incredible! I can't even recommend one over another. Please save your time and money. We spent almost 100 for mediocre food. Service was incredibly slow. Everyone is on their phones. It's so incredibly frustrating to spend good money on not the best food and the slowest service. The host had his head so far in his phone. He had us wait 30 mins to be seated on the patio and when they notified us that the table was ready it was indoor. So we waited an additional 10 mins. EPIC TACOS are truly epic!! A very generous portion of chips and queso were provided. Extremely tasty options. We got the epic tacos which are approximately 10$ per taco. Don't be fooled, they are heavy and substantial tacos, you could just eat one as a small person, or two for a heavy meal. I got the filthy fajita (with chicken) and it was very tasty despite it being very greasy and heavy. Is this authentic Mexican street tacos? Absolutely not. But for the food and portions and service all around, I think this place gets a thumbs up! Inside decor is amazing by the way, too bad we sat outside. From the early days of Agave & Rye - Liberty, before they revamped their menu and it was easy to walk-in and be seated, we enjoyed dining here. Their food and beverages were excellent, and the selections made it exciting to return and explore something on the menu we had not yet tasted. The service was routinely top notch. The timing of the staff's visits to the table were well planned. And as they expanded to outdoor seating during nice weather, we were even more impressed. We thought so much of Agave & Rye that when Epic Brands opened new restaurants at Liberty Center, we soon tried them out. We've been impressed by the decor, the food and beverage, and service at all their establishments. With all this praise, you probably wonder why the poor rating. Our two daughters and a friend recently attempted to have a late lunch at this restaurant. Our youngest must use a wheelchair to get around. This has never been a problem before, but this time it seems that the staff had no idea how to provide proper service for her. When they arrived, the hostess told them that it would be about a five-minute wait for a table. As we all do, they patiently waited for their table even after other groups of diners entered the restaurant and were seated ahead of them. Our oldest said that after waiting about forty-five minutes, she asked the hostess when they would be seated. She was told that they were just waiting for "that table" to finish up, pointing to a large party that did not appear to be close to finishing. They chose to leave and eat at another nearby establishment where they were greeted and promptly seated and served. Ignoring guests who come to your restaurant because it requires a bit more effort to seat diners in wheelchairs than those who are "normally" abled is horrible service. It is also contrary to the ADA which expressly requires establishments to accommodate these patrons. We may return to Agave & Rye, or other Epic Brands restaurants in the future, but we will look to restaurants that respect all their patrons before we do. read more

It's been a while since I've been to Agave & Rye, but I remember really enjoying it. The portion sizes were generous, and the food was packed with flavor--you definitely get your money's worth. Of course, we came for the tacos, and they did not disappoint. Each one was loaded with bold flavors, and even the smaller-sized tacos were plenty filling--we got three each and were more than satisfied. The elote was solid, but I do wish it came with something on the side, like chips. As it is, you just get the corn by itself, which feels a little incomplete. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was great--good vibes all around. No real complaints from me. If you're looking for something different and want to try some specialty tacos, this spot is definitely worth a visit. We both got the Bourbon Peach Punch and taco flight. We strongly considered ordering something different (not tacos) today but we just couldn't bring ourselves to do it lol This was our first time getting the flight, the portions were still perfect! They let me order a Taco Tuesday special (The Bees Knees) as part of my flight and my goodness I am so glad they did because it was delicious! My favorite though was the Grogu, sooooo flavorful and satisfying. And my all time favorite is the Crown Jewel. My wife and I stopped in here while shopping at liberty center. We sat in the outside tent area which was warmer than the inside area. Loved it because it was a cold January day. We started with the queso nachos which were great. I always love fresh made nacho chips. For dinner my wife had the Skywalker and I had the Gangsta. My wife love hers and said the chicken was cooked perfectly. The Gangsta was also perfect to me had a perfect balance of flavors. We've been to othe locations and had great food but my wife and I agreed well be back for some more of our new favorites. Sorry I didn't take any pics. The service was great , the margarita was amazing and if you know about this organization you know the decor and design never fails. Liberty location has ample parking. I recommend it for cocktails. The wing week was a no! The wings were undercooked inside. Outside was crispy. However execution failed . Very creative and crazy looking tacos. So many options. The ones I got looked better than they tasted lol. My and my gfs first time and we've been wanting to check out agave and rye, or atleast I have since she's not much of a taco person. But my plan was to change that. We got in on Taco Tuesday, came with some friends. Lots of deals on apps and tacos. Server suggested 3 apps for 15 dollars, so I got guac, queso chorizo, and salsa verde. Not bad, guac and queso combo was good, but to be honest chips tasted pretty hard and the three apps weren't anything crazy. Solid tho. Friends got the corn fritters and they swore they were to die for, especially the sauce. They came out hot and to be honest, we're pretty good. Similar to a hush puppy but a lot crispier and gooier. I got the alderman (friends go to, he got 2) the rooster (mac n cheese and fried chicken) the smash burger and the gangsta (Birria rice chipotle crema) The alderman was my favorite, simple flavor but complex at the same time, little messy tho. The rooster was good with the chicken, and Mac n cheese but the chicken was a little small so half the taco was just shell and Mac n cheese, which was meh. Next is the smash burger taco, to the left of epic tacos, sounded like a crazy concept similar to the rooster so I went all out. This one was super weird lol, wasn't a fan. They made it look great, but you go in expecting a burger but without a crispy bun, just tasted wrong haha, too much sauce not enough meat. But worth a try. Last was the gangsta, birria sounded good so I got it without queso since half the tacos are loaded with it and I had enough of it earlier. Not a fan of tanjin lime, it says it on the menu, but still didn't like it. Meat was good, little dry, rest of the toppings were meh. Overall, the atmosphere is awesome, so much going on and the architecture and art inside makes you feel like your at a fancy restaurant. Service was fast and attentive. Prices on taco Tuesday are very reasonable. The Tacos are really big! Lots of options. The ones I had were alright, but would want to come back and try different stuff! We weren't looking to be too clever, so got a more basic chicken taco and a steak taco (called the Alderman). We also ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer. They were not horrible. All were slightly sweet. The Brussels had a sauce drizzled that was almost like icing - again, not bad but the sweetness all around was just a bit much. The chicken itself was quite good, but the steak was chewy and only slightly warm. Chips were good, served with a very chunky salas. Server was pleasant but seemed very busy. Took a minute to get the check. I think this is a place you go to more for the atmosphere. It was festive and attractive inside, bustling with people.
