After hearing about Torchy's Tacos from a variety of people the past few months & their queso in particular, finally ventured from Dayton to check out. Right off 75 South the Liberty Center exit take the first right into the shopping center & it's right there. Ordered via the self service kiosk the threesome chips with queso, guacamole & salsa I love Mexican corn so wanted to try & then it was hard to pick a taco, as there was a variety to choose from, so went with the monthly special The American. The threesome came right away even before you could sit down so had the time to enjoy the chips - the queso is definitely the bomb! So flavorful, the guacamole was fresh and the tomatillo salsa good too. The corn I've had better and the taco was huge The restaurant wasn't busy at all but it was middle of the afternoon. I traveled to Austin earlier this year for work and every Austinite I asked for food recommendations suggested Torchy's Tacos as a city classic. Regretfully, I never made it to a Torchy's while in Texas--but luckily there's this one right in my backyard at home in Ohio. Torchy's is the Austin institution that went mainstream and is slowly spreading around the country. You'll order on a touchscreen kiosk and choose from tons of different taco and bowl combinations--including breakfast all day! Grab your cup and a buzzer and take a seat; servers will bring out your food as it's ready. I was pretty impressed with the selection overall. From beef to carnitas to chicken to eggs, you can get tons of different taco fillings. The drink station alone is impressive--the typical soda machine options plus iced tea, horchata and even cold brew coffee! There's also a bar if you're inclined to something alcoholic. All of the tacos and the hillbilly queso we ordered were delicious. I was actually impressed with the corn tortillas on my tacos--wasn't expecting them to taste so fresh. Tacos are a great size as well. Two is enough for a decent meal, but they don't pack the toppings on. Any taco you order (I would guess) can be picked up in its entirety. You won't be losing toppings at Torchy's! Service was a bit slow the day I came for lunch but nothing crazy (more like a sit down restaurant than the fast casual it's set up as) and the ambiance is nothing amazing. But the food is delicious, price is decent and I would definitely go back for a little taste of Austin. read more

I've been here a couple of times now and it hits every single time. I order the Jamaican chicken taco and the Baja shrimp taco (on a flour tortilla) which is delicious and full of such fresh flavors. A must get tho is the queso. My family and I are obsessed with the queso. It is so delicious and is definitely on the list of my favorite quesos. The vibes inside the restaurant are also great. It's very open and clean inside. The service was also great. The staff was very kind and patient with us while we were deciding what to get as you have to order up at the kiosk and then the food gets served to your table. Diablo was spicy and the ranch had a refreshing flavor. The price for the tacos was around $5 to $6. It's not bad for tacos and the quality of tacos you get is very high. They have a ton of customization opinions as well catering to your tastes. Chips and Queso were very good. The Queso had a hint of spice to it but I believe the tangy flavoring was slightly overpowering. The Scratch made churros dessert were delicious. It comes with dipping sauce of dulce de leche. I finally made it here to check the place out. All I knew was they had tacos and I was sold. I didnt realize at first that the Torchys part meant everything has a bit of spice. Thats ok I dont mind some kick, but temper your expectations. Luckily I got a very helpful staff member who went out of their way to explain the menu and give recommendations. You order at the register and then they will bring it out to you in the large dining area. There is also a large bar seating area with all kinds of adult beverages, which they do offer specials on at certain times. On this day I was in a hurry so I was grabbing take out. My food was ok, to be honest I was a little disappointed, but I think the fact that I took it to go really affected it. I understand that many people enjoy this restaurant, but I'd like to share our experience from today. My husband and I are new to Ohio, and this was our first visit to this establishment. We ordered the appetizer called the "3 Some." The presentation was great, and we were genuinely excited to try it. Unfortunately, once we began eating, everything--including the guacamole--was far too spicy for our taste. After discussing it together, we decided we wouldn't be able to enjoy the appetizer. I brought it to the manager and politely explained that it was too spicy for us and asked whether we could exchange it for a different appetizer that wasn't as spicy. He quickly and sharply said no. I then asked if that meant we were stuck paying for an appetizer we couldn't eat. I had my credit card out and asked for a refund. He told me a refund was not possible but said he could offer cards equal to the amount instead. I agreed to that. My husband then spoke with him, explaining that we've eaten at many Mexican restaurants and were simply hoping for something milder. The manager disagreed and began arguing with him. He also stated that he had offered me a refund, which was not true--he only offered cards. When my husband turned away to leave the conversation, the manager followed him and continued chastising him. My husband said, "So the customer is never right?" and the manager replied, "In this case, no." We were disappointed--not just by the food, but by how the situation was handled and the way we were spoken to. read more

No heat index to guide your choices, I knew Diablo would be hot but the rest was questionable. I will say this, it is worth the hype, tacos are around $5 each, my drink was $10 and the chips and queso would have been around $5 but got it free for signing up for their rewards program. The service was counter order, with a sensor for the table. Food was delivered fairly quickly and tables were cleaned and cleared by Monica who was very helpful and she went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The only thing that prevents me from giving this place five stars is the limited vegetarian options and the counter service. Torchy's offers only two veggie options, the Fried Avocado one was very good. It is a pretty small place, with tables being very close together. The counter service mixed with the music made it really hard to hear, and it was a bit stressful ordering. However, they have great outdoor seating and ingenious table trackers so servers can find you so we still had a wonderful time! I also ordered a kids chicken quesadilla this was delicious and if I hadn't received the wrong thing prior it would've hit the spot for the grilled chicken need. I am not a huge fan of spicy food, and most things I tried had too much of a kick for me, the famous queso included. The chips to go with them were average too. I definitely recommend the churros though. They were absolutely delicious and fresh. I like that it can be a quicker meal since you order at the counter rather than having to wait for a server. Came here for their soft opening event. Absolutely love it! The layout is pretty chill. You just queue to order and find a place to sit. And they will bring your food to you. Waiters would constantly check on you. Feel free to ask them for recommendations before you order too. Their staff has a good knowledge of their food. We got their green chile queso and chips, and it is amazing!!! I can see why it's their award winning appetizer! We were starving, so I totally forgot to take a photo of it. But trust me. It's amazing! It's totally a must-have. Ordered their salmon salad, and the salmon portion was huge and generous! 2 salmon filet! It's totally worth that $14. FIRST TIMER: This was the first time I ever set foot in a Torchy's and I was generally satisfied, though it was good that my sister was helping me because overall the layout was a bit confusing. The food, though, was good. I'm not adventurous, so I had the Wrangler and it was decent. I've read other reviews complaining that the tacos are too "small", but that's simply ridiculous. Two about filled me to bursting and I am NOT a small man. The Queso was also very flavorful, but different than what I'm accustomed to when it comes to Mexican restaurants. Generally, I'm used to the white and creamy variety, while this was yellow and chunky. Shout out to Melvin our server for being friendly and helpful. After over an hour wait we still had no food and I had to take my devastated toddler home to starve. So sad at the service here. None of the food we ordered was advertised as spicy, however, there was definitely some bold flavor in everything that we had. They were good tacos, messy to eat because they are loaded. The service was quick and pleasant. It was packed so be prepared for lots of noise.
