This place is a well oiled machine from start to finish. We had reservations for my son's birthday. The decor is similar to Agave & Rye, but feels more upscale with chandeliers and faux fur draped on chairs. The host and hostess were gracious. Our server Wesley was a gem. Very knowledgeable and funny. What I loved most was the attention to detail. And we never felt rushed. The manager stopped by the table to tell us the story behind the knives we'd chosen. He was personable and made you feel glad to be visiting the restaurant. The whole experience was elevated because of the exceptional staff. My son ordered the porterhouse, cooked to perfection. Our table also had the wagyu burger, chicken pasta and lamb chops. I could've eaten sides alone as my meal, they were generous portions and delicious. Dessert was the infamous Black Forest cake topped with pink cotton candy and edible flowers, made spectacular with dry ice. Others stopped to watch as it put on its show. My son received a complimentary bowl of ice cream for his birthday which he appreciated. The pastry chef is obviously very talented and unique in her ideas. What a great concept for an updated steakhouse dining experience. Top notch from the moment we entered to the time we left. We were in town for an event and were ready for dinner far earlier than our reservation but the hostess got us in no problem. Our server, David, was terrific. He is the only server who has ever convinced me that ordering Wagyu was worth the money. He sold us on the 14oz Australian Wagyu which in his words "was the best steak he had ever eaten" and after having it, I couldn't agree more. The steak was perfectly cooked, beautifully plated since we shared, and it melted in your mouth. The char on the outside was ridiculous in the best way. We also had oysters on the half shell broiled with Cajun butter, lobster Mac n cheese, and corn brûlée. All of it was delicious. The space itself has an eclectic, upscale vibe that adds to the overall experience. The food backed it up. We had the Japanese crab cake, grilled oysters, Baby Wedge (not so baby), and split the 16oz Wagyu ribeye with truffle butter. Sides were mushrooms and the potato mille-feuille -- that potato is a must-order. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and incredibly tender, and the crab cake was packed with large chunks of crab. The oysters were good, but everything else really stood out. Dessert was an espresso crème brûlée and finished the meal exactly how you'd want. Service was excellent. David took great care of us -- knew the menu, made good recommendations, and kept things moving without ever feeling rushed. The ambiance of the place is upscale without being too fancy so you don't have to worry about being too dressed up. We ordered the bone marrow corn pudding which was a hit with the husband, two ribeyes, and the Mac and cheese pancakes. The ribeyes were cooked perfectly to medium rare and had a delicious butter on the side to dip. The Mac and cheese pancakes are just what it sounds like with some pasta topped on a thin pancake served with a habanero syrup. I think we severely overestimated how much we could eat and ended up with a ton to take home but loved every bite. Hadn't been in 3 years. We were celebrating our 15 year wedding anniversary last night and everyone made our night feel special. The hostess acknowledged our special night right away. Our server Tasia was fantastic, I can't remember the last time I've had a server this good. In fact, we weren't planning to get steak but after she gave us a run down of the menu, it was evident we should try the steak. Tasia wished us happy anniversary multiple times and even sang us a sweet song. The 2 managers both stopped by our table to check in and to ask if we were celebrating. Definitely seemed a little pricey but I figured why not given a shot !!! And boy did they knock it out of the park. Due to it being Lent I cannot comment on cocktails or dessert but I'm already planning my next trip to SOB for a birthday celebration next month! We went on a Tuesday because Saturdays hasn't worked out for us as they are booked full. We ordered the ahi tuna tower for an appetizer. It was complex with so many good flavors and textures. Light enough that it was not filing for two. We both had filets (8 oz), French style potatoes that I'm unable to spell. We also shared the Brussels sprouts....mouth watering...the steak came with a garlic butter sauce:..again delicious! The steak had a nice outer texture and was cooked to perfection. The decor will keep you alert. It's both street art and chandeliers. It was getting louder as people came in and the restaurant filled. If I had a group, I'd want to be more in the center back area. This restaurant has been on our list for a while. Finally got to try it on a Sunday night. Not crowded at all. First, valet parking is $5, which is a deal. Easy to get in and out. We were seated quickly. Host staff asked if we were celebrating anything and if there were any allergies. Seated at a beautiful half table/half booth. Wow -- what an incredible experience at Son of a Butcher! I went with a friend and we tried several dishes, each one better than the last. The Wagyu beef tartare was rich and flavorful, the raclette was a fun and gooey showstopper (make sure to add the garlic to your crostini or mix into the cheese), and the short rib was melt-in-your-mouth tender which was served with a delicious risotto. We ended the night with the Go Bananas dessert, the perfect sweet finish. I ordered the Pineapple Princess cocktail and it did not disappoint -- refreshing, balanced, and tropical without being too sweet. But let's talk about the space -- it's stunning! The whole restaurant is a visual treat, from the decor to the lighting. It makes an immediate impression as soon as you walk in. I loved it so much fortunately was able to come back again just a few days later. WOW! I can't believe last night was the first time going to SOB. One dinner and it quickly made its spot into my top 3 favorite restaurants, and hands down best steak I have had in the Cincinnati area. The vibes as soon as you walk in are great. It is upscale dining, with a laid back atmosphere. I can't remember the name of our server, she had blue hair though and was incredible. Some of the best service I have ever had. She paced the meal just right, and explained everything in detail. I always take pictures of my food for reviews, and when I tell you I didn't get any pictures because of how good it was, it was THAT good. We started off with the million dollar deviled eggs and the scallop appetizer. The scallops were perfection. My husband got the Australian wagyu strip steak with a lobster tail, and I got the domestic wagyu filet with king crab Oscar and truffle butter. My steak was the most tender I have ever had. Where do I even begin?! This place was amazing! My husband and I decided to come to SOB to celebrate our anniversary. When I made the reservation, I was able to indicate that we were celebrating our anniversary. When we walked in, we were greeted with a happy anniversary from the host staff! We were seated in the room with books on the wall, etc. I was so intrigued by the art in the room. Our server, Tasia, was amazing! The whole staff was super attentive to us, actually. I didn't see any rum based cocktails on their menu so Tasia offered to bring me the rum menu and see what we could mix up. Well, I think it was the bartender who came back with her and offered up some suggestions. I ordered the Dark and Stormy cocktail. Normally, I'm not a fan of ginger beer, but this cocktail was really good! My husband ordered a glass of red wine and he really enjoyed it. We ordered the bread and butter appetizer. It's fresh made sourdough bread (a whole loaf) and a garlic butter candle. The "candle" melts down the butter for you to use on the bread. It's pretty amazing. For our entrees, I ordered the classic filet and the mister ordered the short ribs and scallops. We were NOT disappointed! Also, we got to pick our own steak knives - which is something I have never experienced at a restaurant. I chose a pretty marble handled steak knife. Anyway, the steak was so tender! My husband said his ribs were too - they just fell off the bone. The filet came with mashed potatoes, asparagus, Béarnaise sauce, and roasted carrots. I would eat those carrots all night long. They were delicious. My husband's meal came with risotto. He said his was also delicious. I wanted to have dessert being our anniversary and all. We decided on the Black Forest cake. It was quite the presentation AND it was delicious. This dessert is truly a piece of art! After we asked our server to box up our leftover cake, she came out singing happy anniversary to us with a cookie. She also left us with a sweet card and she took our picture with a super tiny Polaroid camera. We also had her box up the cookie, as we were stuffed. I really enjoyed my dining experience here! The atmosphere of the restaurant is unique and funky, not stuffy and formal like a lot of steakhouses. We had a group of about 15 in a private room. I definitely recommend them for groups. Their private space can accommodate a pretty big group - probably up to 80 people if needed. Our server was one of the best that I have ever had! I wish I knew his name. He was a younger guy but was really good at informing us on everything from the side to the cuts of meat. Truly a phenomenal job! The food was amazing. I had a bone in ribeye. I will say that I do think a Ruby steak is better, but this was still an excellent steak. The appetizers were delicious delicious and the sides were amazing. My husband is a carnivor and loved a good steak place and he was very pleased. He got the US wagyu and he really liked it I'm very sure we're going to be returning. I got the sea bass we both shared everything and we both were very pleased. I gave him more of my food because I was saving room for the dessert. A lot of their desserts looked interesting but we decided to spring for the Dubai tort which was $56 I think we'd all agree that's a lot of money for a dessert but if it was fantastic then I wouldn't be mad. Well we got it and it was very beautiful but neither of us liked it at all I think we both just had one bite. We both agreed we weren't going to eat it and discussed maybe packaging it up and taking it to my mom maybe she would eat it. For $56 I just hope to somebody would eat it. Well bottom line the server heard we didn't care for it and she apologized and took it off our bill which I was shocked. I never dreamed that that would happen and I'm so grateful. I will definitely return here there were several things on the menu that looked interesting and plus we both would be okay with reordering everything we got except of course for the dessert. I love the decor I love murals I walked around and looked around a bit. I will say at least the night we were there it was very very cold inside so ladies you might want to bring a wrap or a jacket just in case. I was so cold I made my husband come over in between courses and warm me up. But extra snuggling is never a bad thing LOL. Had an amazing anniversary dinner at SOB Steakhouse. We drove a couple hours out of Indy for it d/t a recommendation from my husbands coworker. It was well worth the money and drive ! I checked out this place from a recommendation and I will start with saying I highly recommend this place. Booking a reservation for Valentine's Day weekend was very easy and convenient online. I loved the ambiance in the restaurant, where me and my husband were sat was in a room with books hanging from the ceiling and famous book quotes and images painted on the wall, and my bibliophile self loved it! The restaurant design is visually stimulating and intriguing. Our server was great and provided recommendations! We tried their bread board, chicken linguine and ribeye, and Mac and cheese. This was well more than plenty for two and made for great left overs. The price of the items is on the higher end but again great quality food and portions enough to split or have for left overs. Returned for our anniversary dinner again this year and the experience just wasn't the same as last year. High point were the espresso martinis-still the best in the city. The Australian Wagyu wasn't bad but last year it was perfect- melt in your mouth and could cut it with a fork. This year it was stringy and not cooked as well. The ribeye was also more tough than last year. Our waitress was very friendly but had an emergency and had to leave and the service just wasn't the same after that. This place is huge! With all the great appetizers on the menu we just loaded up on apps. Also the cocktails were interesting. I went with the luxe manhattan, it was pricey, but was perfect. My mom had a Smokey cocktail that was smoked in a box table side. Gimmicky but it actually paid off. First app was the bread that came out not warm but hot and the garlic butter was GREAT. They torch it and lit it like a candle. (Gimmicky but good). The scallops were ridiculously good. Perfectly cooked and the corn purée and other stuff complemented great. The bone marrow was tasty and the stuff that came with was also great. The Billion $ deviled eggs were good and they were okay. Wished they came with more crab and caviar and less deviled yolk. Tasty tho. We then got dessert and coffee. The coffee came out room temp and WEAK (like water that soaked a used coffee filter weak). I pointed it out and it was corrected and comped. The crème brûlée was a good (not oh wow, but good). The cherries jubilee was flambéd table side and was okay. Ice cream was really good as was the butter cake. But there was crumble with the cherries and the fire burned it and left a bitter taste. Also the cherries were jarred or canned cherries. It was okay. Our server was awesome. Fine dining in an eclectic urban chic setting. If I were to summarize the design brief of the creators, it must have been "Make it just like Carlo & Johnny, but with a funky eclectic decor". This review is from my first visit to the SOB steakhouse. It's a bit of a drive to get to Liberty Center coming from Cincinnati, but my work colleagues were gathering so I was ok for the drive. The interior is very interesting and unique and bold. I liked that. The interior has gorgeous bathrooms, a nice bar area, and two large dining areas one of which can be isolated for big parties. Our waiter was very attentive, helped us navigate the menu with aplomb, and got our order perfect. Normally you could argue that this isn't a big deal, but there are so many ways to order and change the items that keeping the details right is a strong skill. The food is pretty good, but the presentation is fantastic. I have two twiddles about the food which for some may not be a big deal, but for me is the difference between phenomenal and really good. Twiddle #1: sauces and coverings. I am steak chef myself and can make melt in your mouth steaks that will make you question your life choices. I will buy a prime or Wagyu steak, prepare, and serve as a standalone protein to honor it's greatness. What is sacreledge to this steak? Adding other ingredients that distract...crab, lobster, mushrooms. On their own all of these items are very good to have, but not on top of a premiere steak. SOB probably has, highlights and promotes the addition of 5-10 toppings on their steaks that can range from $50 to $150 as a starting price point. I ordered the Australian Wagyu steak, medium rare, and for truffle butter on the side. It was prepared perfectly. The steak was tender but was not the "melt in my mouth good" I normally get from Wagyu. But this brought to mind all the toppings again. If I covered this steak with lobster, I wouldn't have noticed anything about the steak itself. Niggle #2: shared sides. This is clearly a "me" thing, but I don't like spending $100 per person and having to figure out how to move food up and down the table. This is the same problem I have with Carlo and Johnny and Eddie Merlot's, but many steak venues seem to pattern after Jeff Ruby's restaurants in this regard. So this seems to be the norm, but for those prices I don't like buffet style eating. In summary, SOB delivers moderately pricey food that tastes very good in preparation and served in a very unique, vibey environment by professional servers. read more
