This place is a well oiled machine from start to finish. We had reservations for my son's birthday. The decor is similar to Agave & Rye, but feels more upscale with chandeliers and faux fur draped on chairs. The host and hostess were gracious. Our server Wesley was a gem. Very knowledgeable and funny. What I loved most was the attention to detail. And we never felt rushed. The manager stopped by the table to tell us the story behind the knives we'd chosen. He was personable and made you feel glad to be visiting the restaurant. The whole experience was elevated because of the exceptional staff. My son ordered the porterhouse, cooked to perfection. Our table also had the wagyu burger, chicken pasta and lamb chops. I could've eaten sides alone as my meal, they were generous portions and delicious. Dessert was the infamous Black Forest cake topped with pink cotton candy and edible flowers, made spectacular with dry ice. Others stopped to watch as it put on its show. My son received a complimentary bowl of ice cream for his birthday which he appreciated. The pastry chef is obviously very talented and unique in her ideas. What a great concept for an updated steakhouse dining experience. Top notch from the moment we entered to the time we left. We were in town for an event and were ready for dinner far earlier than our reservation but the hostess got us in no problem. Our server, David, was terrific. He is the only server who has ever convinced me that ordering Wagyu was worth the money. He sold us on the 14oz Australian Wagyu which in his words "was the best steak he had ever eaten" and after having it, I couldn't agree more. The steak was perfectly cooked, beautifully plated since we shared, and it melted in your mouth. The char on the outside was ridiculous in the best way. We also had oysters on the half shell broiled with Cajun butter, lobster Mac n cheese, and corn brûlée. All of it was delicious. SOB Steakhouse was a great experience start to finish. You can tell right away they run a tight operation -- thoughtful welcome, attention to detail, and a place that just feels dialed in. The space itself has an eclectic, upscale vibe that adds to the overall experience. The food backed it up. We had the Japanese crab cake, grilled oysters, Baby Wedge (not so baby), and split the 16oz Wagyu ribeye with truffle butter. Sides were mushrooms and the potato mille-feuille -- that potato is a must-order. The steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and incredibly tender, and the crab cake was packed with large chunks of crab. The oysters were good, but everything else really stood out. Dessert was an espresso crème brûlée and finished the meal exactly how you'd want. Service was excellent. David took great care of us -- knew the menu, made good recommendations, and kept things moving without ever feeling rushed. Darling wife & I dined at SOB Steakhouse for the Dayton Restaurant Week last night (Thursday, 7/30/26). I chose SOB due to their creative menu options, hopefully making it worth the drive from Dayton to the Cincinnati area. Overall, I'd rate the experience as three stars out of five. The food was EXCELLENT. Wifey had the filet mignon, and I had the NY strip. Both were cooked to PERFECTION, were very tender, and had a wonderful flavor. Asparagus was crisp-tender. Wifey said the mashed potatoes were wonderful. I found the flavor quite good, but the consistency was a bit too dry. The lemon tart dessert was excellent. Nice presentation, wonderful flavor. We were only offered spoons to deal with the fairly tough/substantial crust. I managed, yet loaned wifey my knife to deal with her dessert's crust. When we confirmed our dessert choices (after hunting down our waiter), we were NOT offered any sort of coffee to go with dessert. Yes, I could have asked for it, but then again, a customer at this style restaurant should NEVER have to ask. It should have been offered by the waitress. Dining Environment: As you walk into the SOB Steakhouse, you pass by the "traffic circle" driveway at the entrance, complete with about half a dozen DEAD ?cherry? saplings. Their bare skeletons do not enhance the dining experience. Once you enter, you are immediately met by LOUD LOUD music, making it difficult to carry on a conversation. Did I mention it was LOUD? Luckily, wifey & I were able to be seated in their outside dining area, which was much more quiet. After being seated in the outside dining area, you might notice the TRASH remaining on the floor. Multiple straw wrappers were visible (see pictures). I was disappointed to note that the manager on duty walked by our table & the floor trash without noticing it or taking it upon himself to pick up the litter. Once you are seated, there is no complimentary bread or crackers offered. Instead, you might choose to spend an additional $12 for their sourdough bread service. I found this UNIMPRESSIVE, to say the least. My wife's silverware was clean, while mine was unpleasant. I had dried bits of ?tissue paper? stuck to my fork in multiple spots, and the knife had dried "gunk" on both sides. UNACCEPTABLE. The service was fairly good. Our server was friendly, knowledgeable, yet "missing" a couple times during the 1.5 hours we spent there. By "missing", I mean that there was NO server in the outdoor area for multiple extended periods of time. I suspect she was overloaded with tables/customers, so we still tipped her well. This was not just an issue with our server, but also for another couple who were seated by a different server part-way through our meal. They were seated, then "ghosted." A customer in this sort of restaurant should NEVER need to "hunt down" a server. While I don't want somebody hovering over my shoulder, it is expected that they make an effort to periodically visit the tables to top off drinks and ensure excellent customer service. It seems that the "back of the house" is doing well, but the "front of the house" needs to be whipped into shape & possibly have additional servers added to the staff. I was also DISAPPOINTED that SOB Steakhouse did not bother to list the price of their "Restaurant Week" meals online (as nearly all restaurants did). I don't mind a higher price for an excellent experience, but SOB left me feeling disappointed. Dinner for the both of us, with no alcohol ordered, was about $165. Color me disappointed. If we experienced the standard SOB environment, level of service, and dining experience, perhaps they might need to reconsider things a bit. My overall impression is that this is an excellent kitchen fronted by a marginal "front." Decorations do not matter. Service and cleanliness MATTER. Had the food not been so excellent, this would be a two star review. Color me unimpressed. The ambiance of the place is upscale without being too fancy so you don't have to worry about being too dressed up. We ordered the bone marrow corn pudding which was a hit with the husband, two ribeyes, and the Mac and cheese pancakes. The ribeyes were cooked perfectly to medium rare and had a delicious butter on the side to dip. The Mac and cheese pancakes are just what it sounds like with some pasta topped on a thin pancake served with a habanero syrup. I think we severely overestimated how much we could eat and ended up with a ton to take home but loved every bite. Hadn't been in 3 years. We were celebrating our 15 year wedding anniversary last night and everyone made our night feel special. The hostess acknowledged our special night right away. Our server Tasia was fantastic, I can't remember the last time I've had a server this good. In fact, we weren't planning to get steak but after she gave us a run down of the menu, it was evident we should try the steak. Tasia wished us happy anniversary multiple times and even sang us a sweet song. The 2 managers both stopped by our table to check in and to ask if we were celebrating. This restaurant has been on our list for a while. Finally got to try it on a Sunday night. Not crowded at all. First, valet parking is $5, which is a deal. Easy to get in and out. We were seated quickly. Host staff asked if we were celebrating anything and if there were any allergies. Seated at a beautiful half table/half booth. Definitely seemed a little pricey but I figured why not given a shot !!! And boy did they knock it out of the park. Due to it being Lent I cannot comment on cocktails or dessert but I'm already planning my next trip to SOB for a birthday celebration next month! We went on a Tuesday because Saturdays hasn't worked out for us as they are booked full. We ordered the ahi tuna tower for an appetizer. It was complex with so many good flavors and textures. Light enough that it was not filing for two. We both had filets (8 oz), French style potatoes that I'm unable to spell. We also shared the Brussels sprouts....mouth watering...the steak came with a garlic butter sauce:..again delicious! The steak had a nice outer texture and was cooked to perfection. The decor will keep you alert. It's both street art and chandeliers. It was getting louder as people came in and the restaurant filled. If I had a group, I'd want to be more in the center back area. Wow -- what an incredible experience at Son of a Butcher! I went with a friend and we tried several dishes, each one better than the last. The Wagyu beef tartare was rich and flavorful, the raclette was a fun and gooey showstopper (make sure to add the garlic to your crostini or mix into the cheese), and the short rib was melt-in-your-mouth tender which was served with a delicious risotto. We ended the night with the Go Bananas dessert, the perfect sweet finish. I ordered the Pineapple Princess cocktail and it did not disappoint -- refreshing, balanced, and tropical without being too sweet. But let's talk about the space -- it's stunning! The whole restaurant is a visual treat, from the decor to the lighting. It makes an immediate impression as soon as you walk in. I loved it so much fortunately was able to come back again just a few days later. I tried some additional dishes while here... a worthy mention the mac & cheese pancake might sound weird but trust me it is quite good. In all honesty, you can't go wrong with anything on this menu. We went there for our anniversary. We do a great restaurant only once or twice a year and a co-worker recommended it. We ordered the bread (12), wedge salad(15), Aussie steak (99) and the Dr Pepper rib(46). The bread was very tasty, but the bottom crust was so tough we could barely cut it with the knife they provided. The main courses were both excellent. The salad...well...that never arrived. Our main courses arrived before the salad. When we told the waiter, he asked if we still wanted it. We said no. We've been to other places with a much, much lower price point and if there was any issue with the order, a manager would stop by and apologize and maybe offer a discount. Not tonight. One dinner and it quickly made its spot into my top 3 favorite restaurants, and hands down best steak I have had in the Cincinnati area. The vibes as soon as you walk in are great. It is upscale dining, with a laid back atmosphere. I can't remember the name of our server, she had blue hair though and was incredible. Some of the best service I have ever had. She paced the meal just right, and explained everything in detail. I always take pictures of my food for reviews, and when I tell you I didn't get any pictures because of how good it was, it was THAT good. We started off with the million dollar deviled eggs and the scallop appetizer. The scallops were perfection. My husband got the Australian wagyu strip steak with a lobster tail, and I got the domestic wagyu filet with king crab Oscar and truffle butter. My steak was the most tender I have ever had. When I made the reservation, I was able to indicate that we were celebrating our anniversary. When we walked in, we were greeted with a happy anniversary from the host staff! We were seated in the room with books on the wall, etc. I was so intrigued by the art in the room. Our server, Tasia, was amazing! The whole staff was super attentive to us, actually. I didn't see any rum based cocktails on their menu so Tasia offered to bring me the rum menu and see what we could mix up. Well, I think it was the bartender who came back with her and offered up some suggestions. I ordered the Dark and Stormy cocktail. Normally, I'm not a fan of ginger beer, but this cocktail was really good! My husband ordered a glass of red wine and he really enjoyed it. We ordered the bread and butter appetizer. It's fresh made sourdough bread (a whole loaf) and a garlic butter candle. The "candle" melts down the butter for you to use on the bread. It's pretty amazing. For our entrees, I ordered the classic filet and the mister ordered the short ribs and scallops. We were NOT disappointed! Also, we got to pick our own steak knives - which is something I have never experienced at a restaurant. I chose a pretty marble handled steak knife. Anyway, the steak was so tender! My husband said his ribs were too - they just fell off the bone. The filet came with mashed potatoes, asparagus, Béarnaise sauce, and roasted carrots. I would eat those carrots all night long. They were delicious. My husband's meal came with risotto. He said his was also delicious. I wanted to have dessert being our anniversary and all. We decided on the Black Forest cake. It was quite the presentation AND it was delicious. This dessert is truly a piece of art! After we asked our server to box up our leftover cake, she came out singing happy anniversary to us with a cookie. She also left us with a sweet card and she took our picture with a super tiny Polaroid camera. We also had her box up the cookie, as we were stuffed. It's rare that we spend this kind of money when we eat out, but I do not regret any of the money we spent at SOB. I really enjoyed my dining experience here! The atmosphere of the restaurant is unique and funky, not stuffy and formal like a lot of steakhouses. We had a group of about 15 in a private room. I definitely recommend them for groups. Their private space can accommodate a pretty big group - probably up to 80 people if needed. Our server was one of the best that I have ever had! I wish I knew his name. He was a younger guy but was really good at informing us on everything from the side to the cuts of meat. Truly a phenomenal job! The food was amazing. I had a bone in ribeye. I will say that I do think a Ruby steak is better, but this was still an excellent steak. The appetizers were delicious delicious and the sides were amazing. My husband is a carnivor and loved a good steak place and he was very pleased. He got the US wagyu and he really liked it I'm very sure we're going to be returning. I got the sea bass we both shared everything and we both were very pleased. I gave him more of my food because I was saving room for the dessert. A lot of their desserts looked interesting but we decided to spring for the Dubai tort which was $56 I think we'd all agree that's a lot of money for a dessert but if it was fantastic then I wouldn't be mad. Well we got it and it was very beautiful but neither of us liked it at all I think we both just had one bite. We both agreed we weren't going to eat it and discussed maybe packaging it up and taking it to my mom maybe she would eat it. For $56 I just hope to somebody would eat it. Well bottom line the server heard we didn't care for it and she apologized and took it off our bill which I was shocked. I never dreamed that that would happen and I'm so grateful. I will definitely return here there were several things on the menu that looked interesting and plus we both would be okay with reordering everything we got except of course for the dessert. I love the decor I love murals I walked around and looked around a bit. I will say at least the night we were there it was very very cold inside so ladies you might want to bring a wrap or a jacket just in case. I was so cold I made my husband come over in between courses and warm me up. But extra snuggling is never a bad thing LOL. Bottom line is I really enjoyed the whole experience it is pricey as are all good steak places. I hear their drinks are interesting I might have to try a cocktail next time. Had an amazing anniversary dinner at SOB Steakhouse. We drove a couple hours out of Indy for it d/t a recommendation from my husbands coworker. It was well worth the money and drive ! Service was outstanding! Ambience/decor was eye catching. There was stuff everywhere to look at like modern art and beautiful chandeliers everywhere. I checked out this place from a recommendation and I will start with saying I highly recommend this place. Booking a reservation for Valentine's Day weekend was very easy and convenient online. I loved the ambiance in the restaurant, where me and my husband were sat was in a room with books hanging from the ceiling and famous book quotes and images painted on the wall, and my bibliophile self loved it! The restaurant design is visually stimulating and intriguing. Our server was great and provided recommendations! We tried their bread board, chicken linguine and ribeye, and Mac and cheese. This was well more than plenty for two and made for great left overs. The price of the items is on the higher end but again great quality food and portions enough to split or have for left overs. Our server David was so helpful and happy to help with recommendations since it was our first time there. Absolutely, fun, unique and delicious steakhouse It reminds me of a Las Vegas experience because each food item is truly a unique experience verse just a meal to eat The weight staff was amazing, especially with helping to choose what items you wanted for your meal and what drink drinks would go best with it This gives more of an adult restaurant since food is quite pricey and people are focused on enjoying that, but I did see several families there with children The artwork on the wall was also super unique and fun to look at dress is business professional from what I could see people definitely were not in sweats My favorite part of the night was the dessert with the dry ice read more
