Just a Scottie here to represent. ;) I adore Agnes Scott, and it has truly made me a very strong and capable woman. Yes, it's an all female college in Decatur GA- just a stones-throw from the city. But with all of the wonderful food, shopping, and (lets be honest) beauty, Agnes Scott is a sure thing. All of the professors at ASC have their PhD., and offer incredibly insightful, interpersonal, and unbiased teaching. I don't believe that I could have found a better support academic environment. ASC also has an extremely high rate of their pre-med being accepted into medical school, not to mention many graduates go on to graduate studies, or leave ASC with a job. Socially, it is the type of school where you need to be incredibly open minded. Yes, there are many outlets for the students to go party, meet people of the opposite sex, or not. I would say the most wonderful thing about Agnes Scott is the students respect for one another regardless of sexual and gender identity, religion, race, and background. We have an extremely diverse enrollment, and many clubs and associations for students to become involved in. We work hard here, but many of us also play hard. We do throw many social events, including a fall semester formal, and a spring semi-formal. Agnes Scott knows how to throw down. Sometimes on-campus guest are a little weary of what to expect... but every date I have brought on campus has has an awesome time. Being from a fairly small town only 75 mi. north of Atlanta, I didn't expect a lot of change from my conservative high school. Well, it did. I have become very well rounded, open-minded, accepting.. and driven to succeed. When I first came to Agnes, my class motto was "Take root...grow beyond." And I most certainly have. read more

I am so glad to see interest in my alma mater, Agnes Scott College! Agnes Scott is the best kept secret in Atlanta. Many of the buildings are named after famous Atlanta families who devoted time and funds to the college: the Inmans, the Woodruffs, etc. The new chapel is gorgeous and even though Agnes Scott is affiliated with the Presbyterian Church, there are nondenominational services several times throughout the week, prayer spaces for Muslims, and a religious services office for students. Agnes Scott is indeed an intimate collegiate campus, as they closed off the interior of the campus from cars during the 1950s. Don't let the size fool you, there are approximately 1,000 women working together to further their personal development and make the world a better place. Some women would not think attending a female higher education institution would be any fun, but the sisterhood and commitment to honorable living creates a premium learning environment where women are taught to think for themselves and speak up against injustices and unethical behavior. Besides, if you ever start to miss seeing guys, we invite Georgia State, Emory, Tech, Clark-Atlanta, Morehouse, & everyone else to our parties, usually thrown by student organizations (includes adult beverages for those 21 and up, plus the Agnes Scott drinking song!). There are plenty of parietal hours (when the other sex is allowed to stay in dorm rooms) and the option of having a single dorm room/loft to enjoy your solitude and privacy. During my four years at ASC, I learned more about myself and how I can interact with the world to achieve my goals than I learned in the other 20+ years of my life. For any female looking into a possible college choice, I suggest you visit the campus and open your mind to a new world of possibilities (plus, you'll get to join the Black Ring Mafia!). read more

Agnes Scott clearly cares deeply for its students (and alumnae): when my mother, who was an alumna, passed away, Agnes Scott sent a personal condolence letter to each of my family members, even though we all live far away and had no prior contact with the college. That was a really kind gesture and the college really went above and beyond to show concern (and class). No wonder my mother (and grandmother, who was an alumna as well) was so loyal to the school. read more

I've been near Agnes Scott College a million times but just recently went onto campus for the first time. In an unscientific poll, no one else in Atlanta has heard of this college either. It's tucked in the corner of Decatur, and the only reason I had a remote idea of the location is from being lost on N Candler St. and passing the Agnes Scott entrance sign at least twelve times in a frustrated search for Wahoo Grill. The campus is absolutely beautiful, in a pint-sized way, with meticulously manicured gardens and new buildings. Only about 1,000 students attend ASU, and it's an all female school. They're also affiliated with the Presbyterian Church and are an independent liberal arts school. One year costs what two might at a state school - around $35K for one year. I must say I was curious and checked out a couple reviews. According to the 2007 Princeton Review, it ranks 4th for "most beautiful campus" and rated by Kiplinger 2007 as one of the top 50 private liberal arts colleges. I was on campus working at a conference, and the entire staff was incredibly friendly - and the dining hall was surprisingly tasty for school food. Despite the great dining hall meals and friendly folk, I personally wouldn't want to attend a college with no boys. But for us townies, it makes a lovely destination for a stroll around campus. I have no say about Agnes Scott's Academics, but I have been very active in participating in their social life and I am not impressed. The parking is horrible. It can take up to 30 mins before a spot becomes available. The residents are pretty goofy and wild. read more

Proud Agnes alum here!!! I have to say, my time at Agnes is one of the highlights of my life, and my decision to attend is, as of now, the best decision I've ever made. I was a Woodruff Scholar, which is a 'nontraditional' student, and while it made the social aspect of college a little different, neither I nor any of my fellow Woodruffs were received with anything other than love and openness. I was a member of a campus group, got my poetry published, had my art exhibited, participated in academic conferences, and just generally had a ball! I LOVED my time at Agnes (great professors and fried chicken Wednesdays- woot!) and I can't wait to come back for alum events. It's a beautiful place in every way and will change your life for the better, if you let it. read more

ASC is a wonderful academic institution - but beyond that there are also great events and speakers throughout the year that are open to the public (see annual writer's festival for one example). The campus is also beautiful and wonderful to visit and walk around (don't forget to see the observatory!). The dining hall boasts a Harry Potter atmosphere and great food and the dorms are spacious (and half of them do not have a/c). This review is for Scott (I admit, I giggled), in the Office of Special Events. I decided to try & have my wedding at the chapel on campus at pretty much the last minute. He went out of his way to help me out & answered all of my questions, no matter how silly. I was consistently impressed from start to finish. Know that if you work with him, you're in good hands. P.S. If you want to have your wedding there, I suggest an off time like a Friday afternoon. Save yourself booking a year & a half out. read more

I wouldn't recommend going to Agnes Scott College. When you go on the campus for a tour, they make the school seem better than what it is and it's not. This school has a lot of underlying issues that need to be fixed. I thought when I got to school, ALL the professors would want their students to succeed. If you get a bad professor, you're guaranteed to get a C or below in the course. I had problems with my financial aid and the financial aid office told me to "reconsider my options or drop out". The athletic department couldn't help me as their best athlete either. My advisor tried to change my major because she believed I needed to change my career from medicine to "something else". I ended up leaving ASC because the school couldn't help me with my financial aid. If your parents have money, then you will succeed in this university. If not, please reconsider a cheaper and better school. read more

I am a former student at Agnes Scott. Never, ever, ever go here. If you don't fulfill the requirements of an "Agnes Girl", you are completely ostracized and bullied. I entered this school a liberal, Christian, bisexual woman. One girl told me that I "seemed like such an intelligent girl, and she had no idea why I was making such ignorant life decisions" about my religious life. I will never forget being stopped in the walkways and insulted for wearing a cross on a near-daily basis. I was laughed at for being bisexual- apparently I was just too scared and narrow minded to realize I was gay. I left this school because the students are extraordinarily bigoted and intolerant. I tried to kill myself during Christmas vacation because the bullying was so awful. Since leaving, my life is infinitely better now that I've distanced myself from those unkind, disgusting people. read more

Follow the money. If the alum are able to go out and earn enough money to give and also valued their time at a college enough to give - consistently and earnestly - that's a true indication of how impactful their college experience was. For me, I give as much as I can because I think the education I received at Agnes was beyond what I expected and made all the difference for me as a young woman - as a person. Plus I found a full time job that pays right out of school. When I go on interviews people always remark on some Scottie that they knew or worked with and how much they enjoyed them. If you want a quality education and an enriching college experience, then this may very well be the place for you. ASC '11 read more
