Absolutely incredible food and equally as impressive service. We stopped by for lunch and we grabbed a seat in their large , well decorated dining room and within a few moments someone was by to get our drink request and soft touch the table. We were chatting with our little yelper and she had told the waitress she wanted chicken. Yes I know, chicken fingers in a Mexican restaurant.. our amazing waitress got those moving asap, and if you have a hangry kid. You know how important that is. We got the south of the border lunch and the steak fajitas. Those plates came out heaping with some of the best food we've had in some time. The chicken was perfect as was the steak. I literally couldn't have been more impressed with the meal. The only negative was the beans. Maybe it was us but we just felt they were too "soupy" but definitely not something that would negate how fantastic this was. This place gives serious vacation dinner vibes. Music is loud, there's constant nightclub bottle service like service going on. Or we just went when there was 50 birthdays. A little too much for me personally, but my wife loved it. The food was both hit and miss. I did not care for the guac and queso, but the endless chips are always great. Salsa was good. My street tacos were very good, and much larger than street tacos normally are. They were loaded. The Birria tacos were also large and tasty. My friend and I went here for lunch recently, my first time and her second. Prices were reasonable, about what you would expect. Cocktails were great (I ordered an Oaxaca Old Fashioned), tacos were excellent. My friend and I swapped a taco to try so I was able to try my chorizo tacos and one of her birria tacos.All the sauces that came with are stuff was really good. Rice was good, beans were just okay. A fun restaurant! Looks nice. Fun atmosphere. They go all out for birthdays. Hard to not have a good time here. The food was good. My wife and I can eat. But let me tell you the double order of fajitas is more like a quad order. So MUCH FOOD. And it was good. No one left hungry. Seemed like everyone enjoyed what they got. The queso is fine. Food and service fantastic. Food:I had two chicken and one steak taco with bacon, lettuce, and, tomatoes with Mexican rice and refried beans. It was delicious! My guest had a flight of tacos and enjoyed them. Surprisingly, although they were small in size they were very hearty and we both ended up taking boxes home. Ambiance: Clean and Festive with loads of opportunities for nice backgrounds for photos. Also, I usually don't mention the bathroom, but it was super clean and smelled wonderful. I had a great time with my mom at dinner tonight. The food was amazing! I had Fried Fish (tilapia) Mojarra Frita plate. The sauce on top of the fried fish was a bit much and caused for that side of the fish to be soggy as I enjoy the crispy skin. But overall the fish was good. The server was nice, but it was hard to hear him speak with the live music that was going on. I did enjoy the singer as he really brought the place to life! All in all, I would recommend El Canelo over this place as the dishes are just as good but cheaper while being a locally owned small business. read more

I've now been to Aquacates twice since they opened and both times the food and atmosphere has been awesome! Some of the food can be a bit pricey, but it makes up with how delicious it is. The first time I visited I had the birria tacos and the last visit I had there I had the Baja tacos. The Baja tacos were delicious, and the grilled shrimp was fresh and juicy. My birria tacos my first visit were also delicious! Their chips are fresh and crunchy, and they pair amazingly with their salsa. The restaurant is very clean and nicely decorated, as well as the bathrooms. They have very friendly servers who are always willing to explain menu items and options. Went twice, but remembered to review it this time! This time we came for my FIL's bday! They took our reservation and serviced us perfectly! The rest of our party arrived a bit later, but our waitress was so helpful and gave us a heads up when it was close to kitchen. So we were able to order and enjoy our food. I forgot what we all ordered, but the prices are STEEP. Think $17 to $90 range... HOWEVER, the food and amount of food you get is worth it, especially with the amazing waitstaff, and the beautiful decor. If you have a Birthday guest, there's a special show and Two choices of dessert for the birthday person. (Very fun, my FIL LOVED it). They've got some kitchen management stuff to work out but we look forward to stopping in after every wegmans trip. We sat at the bar and had really fun, good bar tenders. The decor transported us right back to Texas! And if the decor didn't, the margarita took me right back to South Congress in Austin. We didn't do much food--but got the queso! Magnifique! And while not spicy enough for us, the salsa was so good we could have eaten it off the spoon. I recently checked out Aguacates Mexican Cantina with some friends during their soft launch and had a fantastic experience. The service was outstanding--our waitress was super attentive, kept our drinks filled, and checked in regularly, which was much appreciated. The atmosphere was cozy and welcoming, making it a really pleasant place to dine. The food was fantastic, and the portions were huge. I had the Lunch Amigo Especial and couldn't finish it all, so I took half home! The prices were reasonable for what you get. They didn't have horchata available at lunch, and I didn't get to try the birria tacos this time because they were a bit pricey at $21 for lunch, but I'm looking forward to trying them on my next visit. Our waitress also mentioned they're rolling out some great specials as they gear up for their hard launch at the end of August. Wednesdays feature $5 regular margaritas and $6.50 flavored margaritas, while Thursdays offer taco flights (if I remember correctly!). Got here at 7:30pm on a Friday and had to wait, but there's benches to wait. It's nicely decorated and clean. Load of people and it seemed like half the people were celebrating a birthday. Starting off--and I don't say this very often--the service at Aguacates was amazing. From the moment we walked in, everyone from the hostess to the bus staff to the other waitresses greeted us with a warm hello. When we sat down, our waitress arrived right away with a huge smile on her face, which set the tone for the evening. We started with two Margaritas, and they were made perfectly--balanced, flavorful, and you could still taste the tequila in the best way. For food, we decided to share three appetizers: the calamari with chipotle dip, steak quesadillas, and empanadas. Each one was delicious, and the presentation made them even more enjoyable. Throughout the meal, our waitress had perfect timing--checking in just enough to make sure we were doing well without ever interrupting our conversation. Another highlight was watching their birthday celebration for other guests. The staff came out with sparklers, a neon sign, lively music, and even a Día de los Muertos mask--it was festive and fun to see. Had a great time at Aguacates just after they opened. We impulsively stopped by before running errands. First of all the service was top notch. We were sat immediately, chips and salsa came right away and our server Sergio asked if we wanted drinks as soon as the chips were dropped off. The house margarita was huge and my husband loved it. I ordered a glass of wine and it was a bit of a light pour, but delicious. My husband ordered the Amigo especial burrito and loved it. I got the Enchiladas Rancheras, the red sauce was really good, I would order it again! The guacamole salad was a bit weird, I just pulled the guac off. I wish the salsa was a bit spicier, but good. Sergio checked on us often, but not too much. We were in and out pretty quickly. The space is HUGE and very clean. I loved the decorations and the music and TVs were perfect. Pollo Tamales were awesome. Large size stuffed with chicken. Homemade chips and salsa. Sautéed Vegetables very well flavored but I asked for no onions and charged me $1.25 for a 2-go container. They brought out complimentary shots of tequila which I would never order but it was a fun surprise. We started with fresh margaritas. More expensive than the house or premium margaritas but worth it in my eyes for the top shelf tequila. They're huge and delicious. We ordered the guacamole Aztec which is prepared table side and absolutely delicious. Both of our meals were excellent and large portions. We had a ton leftovers to bring home and everything was just as delicious the next day. Our server Kimberly was excellent. Just opened yesterday! Aguacates Mexican Cantina, in the old Wild Wings/King Crab. The whole restaurant is beautiful. Very comfortable, clean, and the decor was spot on. The place is huge. Open air garage door was up to enjoy the beautiful weather while enjoying a relaxing meal. TV's everywhere and Mexican music to set the atmosphere. Food was very good, on par with some of the best the Southtowns has to offer. I did think the salsa was a little blah, but everything else met and exceeded expectations. Amigo special (chicken and chorizo burrito) was very large and tasted great. Fajita burrito was delicious as well. I accidentally deleted rice and bean side photo. Portions were large, and the prices seemed about the same as other Mexican places around town. Gonna make it a rough decision where to go to get our Mexican fix next time we get the itch. read more

Disappointed! One of our key indicators of a good Mexican restaurant is their Margaritas. We were let down Big Time. We ordered the Premium Margs. Waayy too sweet and completely undetectable alcohol. Essentially 'lime kool-aid'. Salsa acceptable but we should have eaten it alone with a spoon. The chips were cold and too thick for our taste. Apparently NOT home-made. Fajita beef was dry and chewy. Service was good. Atmosphere "eh". Food came out almost immediately indicating stuff may have been sitting there ready to go. Some of our food was cool. read more

I've been to the Elmwood location a few times and love it so I was excited to see a new location in Blasdell. I was not disappointed in my lunch visit today! They did a great job transforming the old venue into a modern Mexican cantina. The service was excellent - so attentive and friendly. Chips and salsa were brought to us right away. I had a hard time deciding what to order but since it was lunch, I went with the Half Enchiladas Supreme because I'm a sucker for enchiladas and it was the perfect size (2 enchiladas, rice & a small salad). I really was torn though - I'll probably try the Birria Ramen next time. The enchiladas were hot but the chicken inside them could've been a little warmer. It wasn't cold, but it wasn't hot. Moist and tender - it was still yummy though! My date loved the Huevos con Chorizo and thought it was a perfect portion size although he never broke open the packet of tortillas :) I've been to a lot of Mexican restaurants and am used to the standard sides of rice and refried beans. I'm not exaggerating when I say that the Mexican rice served with our food was the best Mexican rice I've had in a long time! Both dishes came with a mound of perfectly fluffy and flavorful Mexican rice and we ate every grain. Plain rice was also an option. I tasted the refried beans that came with the Huevos con Chorizo dish and, again, it was the best I've had in a long time! Not too thin, no undercooked beans - just a wonderfully seasoned "pot" with some melted cheese on top. The lunch menu prices were fair - $12.00 for the enchiladas and $13.00 for the chorizo. Dinner prices vary depending on what you're ordering. The only thing I didn't care for was one of the huge neon signs (quite possibly the largest in the cantina?). Maybe I wouldn't have noticed it if I wasn't seated facing it. But I was so I did. "Drink till she's pretty but stop before the wedding". As my 20-something lunch date noted: in 2024 its sentiment is totally "out of touch and out of date". But as stupid as I think the sign is, it wouldn't make me not go to Aguacates. We're already planning our next visit with more people. read more

To begin with the atmosphere was lively, which I like. Too many quiet as a mouse restaurants around here, so it was nice to see and hear people enjoying themselves. I noted when we walked in there was a neon sign that read "BLASEDELL NY". They spelled Blasdell wrong. I guess they paid for the sign and were going to use it regardless. One of my big annoyances - a beer list with no prices. To me that's almost like a middle finger from the establishment to the customer. The cocktails showed prices at least, and the drinks were not cheap. On the positive side, the service was quick and friendly. The Negra Modelo beer was cold and fresh. There's lots of upcharges so be careful with substitutions/additions. Every little thing had to be requested. Napkins, silverware, hot sauce. It would be nice if those were all on the table and not treated as a special request. The food was a bit expensive, but our portions were quite big. I had the Burrito Tricolor and I could barely finish half. It was big and looked good, but the meat quality not what I had hoped. It seemed like it was quite dried out and kind of tough. The steak and chicken tasted as if they had been cooked days before and were left in a fridge to dry out. Similar for my wife's chicken tacos. She said they were adequate, not much better. We probably won't be back, but I won't say that we would advise anyone against going. It seems popular and fun. Just not for us. read more
