I asked him nicely to redo the work, he was defensive;raised his voice; refused to redo the work. he said to me; just wear it. Terrible! The guy did a very sloppy job, even blame my pants. I took the pants to anther tailer , hoping he could fix it. He told me he could redo it but the paint might become to short for my liking. This pant is classic loose fit style pant, It would look terrible if it is too short. No break hammed. I am taking sloppy guy to court . Really upset with him. Terrible! read more

Found out on Friday that I had a sudden unexpected interview that required me to buy a new sport coat. I made the purchase but the alterations at the store were going to be 2 weeks out. So I saw the reputation and the recommendations for Ah Sew and decided to go there on a Friday afternoon. Very glad I did. He was willing to rush the project so that I would have the jacket on Monday afternoon. I just received it (ahead of time, Monday morning) and the work is excellent. I took a chance and went there, I was confused at first because it was house but his shop is attached to his house. I'm so glad I went and met Uncle Johnny! He did my cousin's pants and another cousin's suit and pants within a week. Highly recommend him with his 47 years of tailor experience. Ah yeah! My new go-to tailor. Came in to have suit pants hemmed even though there's a tailor across the street from home as well as others on the way to Glen Ellyn. I have to say that I had mixed feelings at first, wasn't sure what to expect from the online reviews. However, I needed to have a suit tailored for my wedding and wanted to go somewhere that was highly rated by others, and I wasn't disappointed. It was also great meeting Uncle Johnny, learned a lot about his time in Vietnam and appreciate the passion he has for his craft. Although, at first glance arriving at his shop - I was skeptical. I wasn't sure what to expect, however, I didn't go there for the ambiance. I simply wanted top-notch quality at the end of the day and I can say that I got that. I needed the following: Suit jacket sleeves taken back and pants altered for a new suit I had recently purchased. I needed the waist taken in, length adjusted, and slim fit adjustment throughout the pants, and back in a week before our upcoming wedding in Texas. I showed up unannounced without an appointment before closing hours, and he took the time to take the measurements and walk me through the alterations. He then had it ready the following week with no adjustments needed. I hope that over time his work holds up, that's the only unknown at this point. I have another jacket that he's working on - we'll see how that one turns out. Thanks so much to "Uncle Johnny" I brought in a jacket to get the sleeves on my jacket lengthened because I'm 6 feet tall with freakishly long arms. I was worried because I would need more than an inch to make the suit fit properly but the work he put in to make it possible was amazing and high quality! He added matching fabric to make it work and moved all the buttons on the sleeves down. I am so happy with how my suit turned out and can't wait to wear it to the upcoming summer weddings! This man has absolutely no idea what he is doing. I brought in a simple project. Two dish towels that I had hand embroidered as a gift and wanted some ruffled trim sewn onto the bottom of each towel. One towel had the trim sewn on backwards and also the finished seams were sewn showing on the front of the towel. The second towel he randomly sewed the trim up along the side, not at the bottom of the towel. I was shocked that he could botch such a simple job up so thoroughly. I now have to rip out everything he did, buy more trim and take it to someone who knows what they are doing. Waste of time and money. read more

I brought in a bridesmaid dress that was too tight around the ribcage and I was very worried that he wouldn't be able to fix it for me. The outer layer of the dress is a chiffon-like fabric that I also knew would be tricky to deal with. On top of that, the dress was made for someone with stick arms and the arm holes were also tight. I thought I would have to pay more in alterations than the dress was worth. I didn't need to worry. Uncle Johnny fixed both issues for me within 2 weeks and he did it for an extremely reasonable price. You can't even tell there were any alterations. This man is a pro! I asked them to shorten curtains to 78 inches -- they're 76 inches and the hem isn't straight. The hem is sewed in a crazy haphazard line. I asked for a 4 inch hen and got a 2 inch hem. He's a nice old guy but I wouldn't bring him anything important to do. read more

This guys a hoot--real character. He was on the side of the U.S. during the Vietnam War and was evacuated when Saigon fell--now he's doing quality alterations at a fair price! Recently I went to Ah Sew to have a suit tailored that I had purchased online. It fit basically well, but needed the sleeves on the jacket brought up (including buttons moved), the waist of the pants let out, and the length of the pants shortened. Uncle Johnny was friendly and helpful as he worked with me to determine the best adjustments for all of these. I needed the suit in a week and in spite of having 3 things to do on the suit - particularly the jacket sleeves - he was able to get it done for me in 5 days. I was across the street trying to get my oil changed and as I was about to pull out I saw that in a little room next to a house there stood a small extension advertising tailoring and alterations. I have had suits fitted before by greedy not so friendly people before so I was a bit apprehensive. I gave the number a call and was answered promptly. I have had a winter coat that was too long and the waist appeared to be for a guy three times bigger than me (I'm not that big). Decided to give this place a shot and get a quote on the alteration. For $55 I got a well fitted and hemmed winter coat. I am very pleased with the results and have many shirts that I would like to take back to get taken in into my form. The worst service ever! I brought in a vintage silk skirt in in February to be altered. I said I needed it for a wedding in June. I spent about 45 min. having it fitted. The owner said he would call me when it was ready. I came in 3 months later and the skirt was in a ball on a step stool with no plastic bag on it or anything and hadn't been touched. He said he didn't want to work on the $30 alteration, without a deposit. He had no excuse for why he didn't ask me for one while I was there, or why he didn't call me to ask for one. When I pulled up to his shop (attached to his house) I could see why some other customers had hesitation. He's not in a bright shiny storefront - but as such you don't have to pay for his rent, just his craftsmanship. Uncle Johnny is very personable, has been doing alterations longer than you've been alive, and does great work. All three suits had to have sleeves shortened, waist taken in, and cuffs hemmed. And this was after two other tailors either told me it was too much work or charged twice what Ahsew did.
