I have been a customer for more than 10 years. Even through the changes in their ownership, I have always been very pleased with the quality of their workmanshp. I am short. And, they have successfully altered many of the off the rack items in my wardrobe. They also provided excellent advice on what to look for to minimize costly alterations and maximize a custom fit end result. At times they are very busy--especially during the holidays and prom season. So, plan to allow two weeks or longer for turn around time. Their pricing is very fair, but not cheap. They do not accept credit or debit cards. Be sure to check their hours before you show up as they do sometimes change. Lastly, be a kind customer. Craftsmen with their talents are getting harder to find. read more

This shop does not know how to properly tailor a men's suit. Brought in my suit to have the sleeve length adjusted to finish at the wristbone so that the shirtsleeve would be visible. Having suit sleeves that do not allow for the shirtsleeve to show makes the suit look too big on me. I explicitly explained my request at the time of drop-off, the seamstress took my arm measurements from the thumb-tip, and I felt like my suit would be in good hands. WRONG. I try the suit on the day of pick-up and once again the suit sleeve is covering the shirtsleeve. When I mentioned this the workers tried to blame it on the dress shirt I was wearing and a bunch of other nonsense about the suit being designed wrong. Ridiculous! All I wanted was for the suit sleeve to be raised high enough as to expose a 1/2 inch of shirtsleeve, that's it! After complaining I got them to agree to make the readjustments while I was there in the shop, still was not satisfied but had to cut my losses as I needed the suit for a wedding that evening. NEVER AGAIN. read more

I randomly found a killer charcoal pinstripe suit at Goodwill for $8!! And it fit me pretty well! Almost. Because my body shape is roughly like that of the number 8, I needed the waist taken out a little bit, cuffs shortened, jacket taken out a touch, sleeves shortened...you get the idea. So I took it here, in this quaint little place just off Main St. in downtown Glen Ellyn. Because as fate would have it, I had once taken a suit here about 10 years ago when the shop had a different owner and a different name. But it was still there! The suit fit great, but the work set me back about $70 (cash or check only, mind you- no plastic). I initially thought I had been taken for a ride. But after consulting fellow Yelpers, I discovered I actually got a great bargain- not to mention a sharp, custom-tailored suit out of the deal. And the work was finished in about 24 hours! Never again will I look a gift horse...er, seamstress, in the mouth. read more

So I brought in 2 dress shirts and a suit coat that needed a lot of work. I was surprised that she just pinned everything without measuring me, but I was also pleasantly surprised with the outcome. I am a tailor's nightmare. 6'5" 320# and a very athletic shape.Although my waist is ~40" I have to buy suits that are size 62-66 to get the shoulders to fit.... then of course bring them to a tailor to have the waistline brought WAY in... so this isn't a normal little adjustment, she made some big changes to my garments. Both shirts fit a little baggy in the waist still ( compared to a fitted shirt) but look very nice. They fit like a traditional shirt is cut, not a shirt tailored to my shape, but they look like they fit and I am happy with the work. Great work here. The suit coat I know was a really tough job. The sleeves came out perfect as did the bottom hem. The alterations to bring in the waist sucked in the back nicely, but the front still isn't exactly right.It still sticks out a little like it's expecting me to grow another 20lbs of belly fat. Granted, that was originally how the suit was shaped. I did put her in a time crunch ( I had a job interview) so I'm sure that if I had an extra day to have her make another alteration it could be spot on, perfect. Given the difficulty of fitting me, the time crunch, the cleanliness of the work, and the fact that having all three garments altered only set me back ~$90 I feel like I got the deal of the century. I might not take a $2000 Italian suit here, but for regular Joe's who just need to look presentable this is the spot for sure. I will be back. read more

The Glen Ellyn Tailor Shop is under new ownership. The previous owners did great work. The current owners are horrible. I dropped off a bridesmaid's dress two weeks before the wedding. They told me to pick it up they day before I left for the wedding in the early afternoon. On that day I got a call from the Tailor Shop asking me if they could have more time because they "forgot" about my dress. I told them no and I would be in at the end of the day. I came in at 4:30 pm to a woman sewing my dress at 5:15 pm she finally finished and I tried on my dress. It was so small the zipper was 2 inches from closing. I do not recommend The Glen Ellyn Tailor Shop to anyone and I will definitely not be returning. read more

I love going here. The tailor is so dependable. I have brought two bridesmaids dresses, and one formal dress for a wedding. All three needed to be taken in, shortened, and had a sleeve brought up. My dresses ended up fitting like something custom made. Make sure you allow yourself about week if you go during the fall or early spring (homecoming and prom). Their customer service is fine. Most people in Glen Ellyn think CS=ass-kissing. They're from Eastern Europe and aren't ECSTATIC if you walk in, so don't be surprised if they don't offer you coffee (go to Einstein's across the street if you want chit-chat), but the seamstress is PERFECT! I'm short and round so I'm not exactly easy to fit, but this woman made my office clothes couture-worthy! Her prices are the going rate so she's fair. I can't say enough good things about these people! The zipper on my favorite down coat wasn't working. They were able to find a new zipper pull and change it out. They could easily have charged more to replace the entire zipper, but instead took the time to try the less costly option. They will have my return business! read more

Stay far away from this place if you value your clothes . it was a simple job and they ruined my one item. went twice to have it fixed and they made it even worse, It was an extremely rushed , sloppy job, hoping I wouldn't notice . i got my dress altered here and the job was fine but when i came to get measured another girl was here for her senior prom dress fitting. the woman was a single mom and so she didn't have a lot of money and the alterations came out to be more than what she payed for the dress. she explained that she couldn't pay that much but the man who works here insisted that she must go somewhere else instead of trying to negotiate the price or at least mediate the situation. the woman and her daughter left and i don't know what happened but the man was very rude to her. the seamstress was very kind and tried to make the woman feel better but i just feel the man handled the situation poorly so i took a star away read more

I took a chance. I had just received a custom top coat, but slight adjustments had to be made. The original tailor takes weeks to make alterations, and I just did not have that kind of time. I reached out to these lovely ladies and they promised to return my coat in 24 hours. Wonderful and great service. I had to pay slightly more for a quick turnaround - shorten the sleeve and waist cost be $50, but it was worth it. The ladies and have accents, but be patient with them and you will get great results. read more

I had a silk dress which was a size too large that I needed adjusted for a formal event. After reading the other yelp review for this local shop, I decided to give it a try. After two quick fittings, I now have a dress which fits me perfectly! She did some very complicated adjustments, moving a side zipper, bringing in darts etc. In short, she rebuilt the dress from the waist up and it matched the original work seamlessly. The turn-around time was very quick and for all of the work that she did, I was shocked at how reasonable the price was. I'd definitely recommend her and I'm going to be bringing her more dresses now that I know tailored clothes can be affordable! read more

This was one of the worst experiences I've ever had! They would not tell us approximately how much the alterations would cost even though we asked before they even started for a RANGE. They are outrageously expensive and wanted to charge almost the price of the gown itself! When we told them we could not afford the price, they ripped the pins out of the dress and started ironing out all the chalk marks even though the fabric of the gown should not be ironed. They yelled at my mom and nearly brought her to tears for wasting their time even though my mom said she would pay for their time. We asked about the price 3 times and they could not tell us till they were finished pinning and marking. And then, they still could not tell us a price. When we finally "pinned" them down for a price they still couldn't quote it within a $50 range. We went here because we thought, from reviews, it was a quality and affordable place to get my prom dress tailored. It was definitely not. It was a terrible experience. I do not recommend going here unless you are prepared to spend a rather large amount in alteration fees---maybe as much as the dress! And the seamstress coughed the whole time-- a terrible hacky, germy cough. Yuck! Eek! read more
