(natch) When my B-maid dress came in from the bridal shop I was shocked to find it was SofaKing big that when I tried it on I could zip the whole thing up, put it over my head, and it let it drop straight to the ground. Yay a bridesmaid tarp! So I tucked the dress away and worked on erasing the God awful fitting experience from my memory until I absolutely had to deal with it. It's now 2 weeks before the wedding (okay, it's a little over a week and a half until the wedding) and turns out, I'm probably gonna be sh*t outta luck taking my Andre the Giant sized dress just anywhere. Enter Lorenzo's: a well reviewed tailoring and alterations shop that's been in business for over 25 years, is oh-so-conveniently located within 10 driving minutes from my favorite Thai food spot, and says they'll have no problem getting my dress done before the wedding. PAYDIRT! Besides the size of the dress, my other problem is that I have a really hard time wearing strapless dresses because there is no strapless bra in existence with a small enough back measurement and a big enough bust measurement. On any other day of the year the size of my body to my boobs ratio would work in my favor and then some, but not at a wedding- Not at my best friends CLASSY wedding where all the other bridesmaids will look thin and flawless and I'll look all oozy like those squishy Mr Bill toys that when squeezed the two eyeballs pop out... but replace eyeballs with tittays. So I head into Lorenzo's hoping they can pull off the miracle gross of alterations I know the dress needs and I'm expecting an older polish lady or a little Italian man or someone that could be typecast in a sitcom based on looks for what most people would think a tailor or seamstress would appear to be... but what do I walk into? Uhm. *blushes* Well... a super sssmokin' hot late 20s/early 30s something guy complete with tattoos and a mini mohawk. Soooo, there's that. He's incredibly professional and tells me what he'd mentioned over the phone- that the owner is out of town until Thursday but as long as it's not an actual wedding dress he can do the measurements and have the seamstress sew it up for the next week. You got a deal, Buddy! The dress (which I had been affectionately referring to as "the Beast") is so big that he needs to actually pre-pin before I try it on and do the actual measurements and alterations pinning on top of the first round of pins- so my dress is basically 1 part green shimmery taffeta and 10 parts metal. I felt like a flamboyant Iron Man, but the dress felt like it would fit snugly and it appeared that he understood when I said I needed the top part to be TIGHT so I could tuck my bubbies in and have the least amount of nip slips possible. I had dropped the dress off on a Wednesday and with the 4th of July holiday weekend they said it could be ready Tuesday. Turns out, the dress needed so much taken out- something to the tune of 8 inches, that it ended up taking a little longer (but that worked out better for my schedule anyway) and I got to pick up the perfectly fitted dress on Thursday AND they were so nice that the owner gave me quite the deal on The Beasts alterations. The dress was a hit and my boobs only almost came out a few times due to the lack of a quality strapless bra and my excessive booty shakin' BUT overall it was a showstopper and I owe it all to the super sexy crew at Lorenzo's, whom I will now count on for any and all my alterations needs. read more

Initially we ordered from The Black Tux. Two weeks before the wedding, when my suit was supposed to arrive, I got an email saying they did not have my size. I needed a green suit, the whole wedding party and decorations were chosen to match my suit. We frantically called every store in the area and luckily we got ahold of Vince Jr. at Lorenzos Tailoring and Formalwear. He was super nice and helpful. He showed us the options they offered. The green we decided on ended up being perfect! On a tight time frame Vince Jr. delivered on his promise and had me looking nearly as stunning as my bride! They saved my wedding! I don't usually write reviews, but I had such a bad experience with this place that I had to share. I've used Lorenzo's before for a few different bridesmaid's dresses and had no issues. So when it came time to get another dress altered, my first thought was to go to back to them, and I brought one of the other bridesmaids with me to get hers done as well. The visit started off poorly, because even though they had a sign posted on their door that masks were required to enter, neither the gentleman who checked us in for our appointment OR the one doing our alterations (Vince) wore a mask. At one point, Vince even said "You don't mind if I don't wear a mask, right? I mean, YOUR masks work." To which I answered that I would absolutely prefer he wear a mask. He did oblige but only for the literal 30 seconds that he was working on my dress and then he took it off again. Given the times, this really rubbed me the wrong way. Next on to the alterations. The dress obviously needed to have length taken off, but it also could have been taken in on the top. There were gaps by the armpits and I could literally grab a handful of fabric in the back. Vince disagreed and said it actually fit pretty well and suggested I get a better fitting bra to lift the "girls" up which would fill out the dress. I had my reservations but trusted his expertise. Yeah......even with a push up bra the dress was CLEARLY too big on top (shocking). One of the other bridesmaids had to work some magic with pins on the big day to make it have shape on the top. The length they took off was fine. THE FINAL kicker for me was the fact that there were 3 quarter sized white stains with some sort of glitter in it on the front of the dress when I picked it up. Unfortunately, I didn't notice this until a few days after picking it up where it sat in the plastic wrap until I tried it on. I tried to carefully wipe it off with a towel and water but ended up having to rush it to a dry cleaner 3 days before the wedding. These stains were NOT present before I dropped of the dress, and my friend who came with me to the alteration appointment can attest to that. I didn't bother calling them, because I have no "proof" and honestly just want to wash my hands of them entirely. They've done great work in the past so not sure what happened this time, but the whole experience made the decision to look elsewhere for my alteration needs in the future VERY easy. read more

This little tailor and alteration shop preformed a miracle for me. After carefully doing my own measurements and ordering a dress on line, the day the dress arrived was a catastrophe. Needless to say, the dress was meant for someone with a minute chest. I don't fit that bill. Only a week and three days were left before the wedding in which I needed to wear the dress. So of course I did the mature thing. I cried! A lot. Finally, my husband threw open the phone book, and picked a tailor at random, herded my dress and my sniveling self into the car. Well, we found Lorenzo's. It's in a strip mall area, and is conveniently located next to a liquor store and a dry cleaner that specializes in wedding dress cleaning, pressing, and preservation. The tailor shop itself, also houses a men's formal wear rental selection. Well, we walk in, and explain the problem. The gentlemen (Lorenzo?) had me put the dress on (much to my dismay) and see what was possible. Since the dress came with a scarf/shawl of the exact same material and color, I had the extra material. With a quick and expert eye, this guy told me what needed to be done, which was adding six extra inches to the chest area. So I was able to get back out of the dress before anyone else was able to see. He said to call back on the Thursday before I needed the dress back. So I did, and it had just come back from being pressed. So away we went to pick it up. This time, I almost cried again when trying the dress on. It was perfect, and you couldn't even tell it had been altered. I personally don't think the price was bad for it. (Then again I never needed anything altered before.) For all the work, it was only $140. Well, it was also a rush order, but it looked professional all the same. I'm not quite sure when I'll be needing formal wear or alterations again, but at least I know I have a good tailor shop! read more

After the first tailor botched the alteration on my bridesmaid dress, I came into Lorenzo's less than a week before the wedding. I work in the city so it's nearly impossible for me to get anywhere by the close of business, but the owner offered to stay open a little later to accommodate me. 5 stars for that alone! Being a "professional" bridesmaid, this wasn't my first experience with a tailor, but it was definitely my best. The guy who took my measurements (who I assume was the owner) was super friendly and asked every question imaginable about how I wanted the dress to fit, how long I wanted it, what shoes I was wearing, if I was planning on wearing Spanx or some other slimming device that would affect the tailoring....no other tailor has ever been so thorough and detail-oriented. I picked the dress up 2 days before the wedding (they stayed open late again!) and it fit perfect. For being a rush job, the bill was way less than I expected (about $60). Well worth it. For the first time ever, I had a strapless dress that I wasn't tugging and readjusting all night. My only complaint is that they didn't steam or press it, which I didn't notice until I was putting it on before the ceremony. That could be because I didn't think to ask them to. I'll take the fault for that one; it was an overall great experience! Way to go Lorenzo! read more

I've taken several items here. Wish I could say I was totally happy but the last time apparently they were too busy rescuing bridal parties in distress to pay attention to my alterations. I had a pair of slacks with loose cuffs that kept catching on my heels. I wanted the cuff removed but they talked me out of it -- not necessary - we can just sew the cuff shut, no problem. OK. When I returned to pick up the slacks on the scheduled date they weren't ready. Hmm, would have been nice to get a phone call and save a trip. Oh well. So I waited a week. No call that they were done, which would have been nice since I didn't want to make another trip in for nothing but my spouse kindly picked them up for me. When I took them out of the plastic -- ta dah! Absolutely nothing had been done to them. They still had the cuffs exactly as when I took them in, and the cuffs weren't sewed shut either. Back again (3rd trip). This time the tailor told my husband we should have had the cuffs removed in the first place (!) because women will insist on wearing spike heels. Really? So they removed the cuffs and again we went in to pick them up. This time they were done right. Only took 4 trips. read more

We bought 11 suit jackets from Lorenzo's for my sons wedding. We had to buy the jackets because they were linen and that fabric can not be rented. The manufacturer did not sew part of the lining in correctly and Vincenzo was able to take them apart and resew all of them for us. They did a great job and we were very pleased to have used them. They also did a great job with any of the jackets that needed to be altered. We would recommend them to anyone who needs to rent or purchase formal wear for any type of event! read more

Note to Lorenzo's: if you claim to open at 8AM, open at 8AM. Also, if that same morning you opened late, somebody calls and asks if you're open.... I went to Lorenzo's to rent a suit for a wedding. The staff member for my fitting couldn't have been nicer. On my second visit, I met Vince, one of the owners. What a great guy. Personal service at its best! My only complaint is that the suit probably could have been a bit better fitting, sleeves were a bit short on the jacket. My husband has rented suits from Lorenzo's for the past 10 years and in September, he used Lorenzo's to outfit himself, his groomsmen, the fathers of the bride and groom and the ushers at our wedding. They selected slim fitting charcoal gray suits and everyone looked spectacular. Both Vince and Mike were extremely helpful and knowledgeable throughout the process. They made sure that everyone was fitted properly in person, and for those who couldn't visit their store, they were very receptive with taking measurements over the phone. I have gone there about 4 times but they did a really bad job with a dress hem ... It was just cutting in it not actually sewing it... It looked like a kid of 6 year old cut it... Unfortunately since my event was the same day I picked up the dress I fixed myself and didn't have time to take pictures... I went back for another adjustment and told the receptionist about the issue... He kind of politely told me that since there is no evidence there is nothing they could do ... With less than 48 hours til my wedding day, Jo. Banks had screwed up my tux. I wasn't going to allow them to screw me again. I walked into Lorenzo's praying that i could get a tux in time. Mike told me I could have a tux in 45 minutes if needed. I was relieved and got a better tux than i had hoped for. I wont say I looked amazing, but i looked much better than I had. When my bridesmaid dress came in a week before my friend's wedding and I tried it on, I was horrified to discover that the top was probably two sizes too big and falling down and gaping in all the wrong places. Lorenzo's worked a miracle on that dress. It now fits beautifully! They were able to rush the alterations to be ready later in the week (even though it was a holiday weekend!) and the dress was ready at the promised time. And considering all the work that had to be done, the total cost was super reasonable (under $70) and slightly below what was quoted, which was fantastic! I got a "custom-made" dress from another place that was a disaster! It looked like a balloon and I could put it on with it completely zipped up. It was literally too big everywhere--straps, waist, bust, length, etc. I went to Lorenzo's and in 2 weeks it was like he created a brand new dress just for me. It fits perfectly now. He had to take it in everywhere, but he is so good that you can't even tell where or how he did it. He quoted a price when I dropped the dress off and even though I know it took him a LOT of work to get the dress just right, he honored his quote. We have had a number of dresses altered here in the past, and expected similar results when taking in a long dress to be re-hemmed. Could not have been more disappointed. My daughter took it in for the altering, and was never quoted a price...when she went to pick it up, she was told it was $120.00!! Although they reduced it slightly, the job was poorly done. It had slight beading, and instead of removing the beads when it was shortened, they sewed them right into the hem, which now has a zig zag look. We will not be returning. read more
