    Samay bajji set 6/10

So disappointed. Samay bajji set missing fried fish and bodi sadeko. Buff steamed momo was all diff size and small . Not worth the hype.

Came here for dinner on a Sunday evening to celebrate two birthdays…read more I made a reservation for a party of 7, but our table wasn't ready when we arrived, and we were seated next to another large group. I noticed two other large tables marked as reserved, so I was unsure why our table wasn't ready. That was a little disappointing. We ordered waters, drinks, appetizers, and mains. Unfortunately, it took a long time for both the drinks and food to come out, especially since there were only four other tables occupied in the restaurant. We started with the Paneer Momo (kothey style), Mutton Momo (kothey style), Aloo Chicken Roll, and Kah-Tahr Poleko (grilled jackfruit). I wish there was an explanation of each momo style on the menu, as it would have been helpful to understand the differences. The paneer momo arrived first and was quickly devoured by the table, it was really good. The grilled jackfruit was something different for me and reminded me of a grilled pineapple/meat-like texture, which was enjoyable. While I don't eat meat, I was told the aloo chicken roll was spicy. The mutton momo was also enjoyed by the table. For mains, we ordered chow mein, a tandoor platter, two butter chickens, one paneer tikka masala (medium spicy), and more than enough garlic naan. The butter chicken was enjoyed by the table. The paneer tikka masala was fine, but it was unbelievably sweet from the honey and had no spice at all. I wouldn't order it again. If I were to get it again, I would request butter paneer instead since the sauces were noticeably different. The paneer tikka masala was also very bright red, and our fingers turned slightly orange/red from the sauce, which made it seem like food coloring was added. That was disappointing. We were looking forward to the chow mein, but unfortunately, it never came out. The garlic naan was alright. It was thinner, less fluffy than expected, and slightly chewy. They did change the song for the birthday celebration and brought out two complimentary ice creams with birthday candles, which was a nice touch. Overall, since this is a Nepalese restaurant, I would stick with the momos and appetizers. Those were the highlights of the meal.

For an appetizer we got the chicken Momo platter and I loved all 4 options. I didn't get a picture of it but I got the chicken tikka kebab and it was great. I can't recall what my husband had but I know that we all enjoyed our food. I'm not sure what the business was before but they did a fantastic job transforming the space with its moody, dimly lit ambiance and thoughtful design choices. My only complaint was the LED light above our table kept flickering, but aside from that, I really enjoyed the atmosphere. We will definitely be back!!

So, buddy asks me if I want to go have a drink at this bar across from Bell Helicopter one night…read more I'm like, "are you kidding? No!" He says it's a nice place, about as divey as where we were at the time, and after he said he'd drive, I said "sure, why not" Get there, walk in, and he's right. It's not bad at all. It's old inside and the last remodel looks like it was back in the 70's, but I never really care about that stuff. It was a weekend night and there were quite a few people there. Bartenders were quick and friendly. No draft beer, but a pretty stocked full bar so no complaints. One thing I really ended up liking best about this place, was it's a mostly older crowd. Majority of people, I'd guess, 40's and up, maybe upper 30's in the least. I'm bad with ages. Everyone was friendly. Looks like a big regular crowd, seemed everyone knew each other. People doing Karaoke in the corner. Everyone was having a good time. Didn't see any people having drama or walk in misfits making trouble. Bit of a drive for me, but might make this more of a first stop on the weekend place. Drinks were reasonable.

However, I went to the bar to buy a drink after dinner and she took issue with the $20 I handed her for payment. It was an older $20 from before they changed the design. She held it up to the light and was looking for the strip and said that because it didn't have the strip that she couldn't accept it. I looked at the bill and saw that it was a 1988 bill. I told her this and she said it should still have the strip in it. I didn't want to argue so I happily paid using a different $20, but my curiosity got the better of me later that evening and I looked it up and she was incorrect. They did not start adding the strips until 1992. I could understand if it was some youngster that might only be familiar with the newer bill design, but she was not young. I also would have accepted her stance if she said it was hotel policy to only accept bills that have the strip. The way the interaction took place left me feeling accused of trying to pass a counterfeit bill. A little more tact would have gone a long way here. I feel like a hotel manager would be more in tune with customer service. Funny enough, I went back to the bar the next night and paid with the $20 in question. The bartender on duty that night accepted it without batting an eyelash. Food was just okay. Our group tried a variety of menu items: Ribs, wings, carbonara, salmon, pretzel appetizer, hummus, and maybe a couple other things. Ribs were probably the best thing, but nothing really stood out.

The moment she walked in they were ready to seat us. Unfortunately I don't recall the name of our server however he was awesome! Knowledgeable, helped with making decisions, and friendly. We sat long after we were done eating catching up and not once did he rush us out the door, instead he kept coming by refilling our glasses. So in the process of catching up, I dropped the ball and didn't get the pictures i normally would get (I know, rookie mistake) however they have great lunch specials and great prices (my plate was $10 and came with beans, rice, a brisket taco, and a cheese enchilada with pico on the side). When we got seated they also brought chips and each of us our own salsa so I could double dip as much as I liked and put some on my food. Seriously, this was a great lunch and I even had enough to take home and munch on later. Will I go back? Definitely as I need to give the drinks and other dishes a try!!!
