What was once a compassionate office that cared about animals, seems to now only care about the bottom dollar. We were first turned away when we voiced concerns about our cat who had a stomach procedure done started to drop weight fast and drool from her mouth shortly after. We were told they didn't have time and to go to Williamston. Upon arriving there they discovered her mouth full of cancer and were shocked she had just been at dvh so recently.. She was put to sleep the same day due to her pain. We made the decision to go back against our better judgement, but because I'd been going there for as long as I've been in DeWitt. Which brings us to today. Our 3 year old cat has been being checked regularly for what they deemed ibs through multiple blood test, one of which they encouraged us to send out to a specialist for over $300. No problem, I'll spend that to make sure my animal is ok. His face swelled today and he is acting lethargic. I called to see if we could be seen and after explaining symptoms the on site doctor determined there was no time to get him in and encouraged Williamston again. I asked when first appointment was available and was told not until mid December. My animal is suffering and you suggest waiting until then? No thank you. I am done and will never come back. I am so sad that a once amazing office has now decided with their massive building and multiple doctors that long time patients are not important enough for even 5 minutes of a conversation. I'll take the small old office with Dr. Wendy. That was the last time it felt like the priority was animals.

I have, rather, an experience (or lack thereof) as I have been looking to switch Vets for a while and have called this office several times over the last 4 years to secure an appt and each time I've called, they always tell me they "aren't accepting new patients". My family has been with our other Vet practice since 1980 and their new management is ok, but not what it used to be. They're very capable, but I want excellence for my furbaby. I have a small, healthy dog who's newly become a senior and wanted to have an annual evaluation and I've never been able to secure an appointment. It always bums me out because I've such amazing things from my community about this office and the quality of care they offer their patients. I guess I'll try again in another 6 months...if anyone from this office finds an opening for a new patient, ℯℯ reach out:)

When I came for the one week follow up visit I was asked if we needed any supply refills at home. I answered yes we needed more saline solution to flush the wound. I was told that would be $10. I shared my understanding of what the $700 covered and that I live 30min away but with construction it took close to an hour and did not think I needed to bring any money. I was then told that the saline solution is mandatory to keep the area stitched up clean is not free to them and to come back with money otherwise it could be fatal to our rabbit. I was taken back by the fact that she was very curt in admitting that without it our rabbit's life was at risk but didn't care enough to send me home with any. It is just sterile water and salt! Sadly at that moment I realized $10 was more important to them than our rabbit.

I know the routine and know he needs Doxycycline. I was told over the phone that they would hold the appointment outside. So, an employee comes out (she's super short and petite - not sure of her name) and says that she needs to take Bauer inside, and so she does. She comes back five minutes later and confirms it's kennel cough. Then, tells me that she was going to prescribe Doxycycline along with two other medications that were not necessary. Just a simple upcharge. I said I would just take the Doxycycline. She goes back to grab my dog and then comes back out. I load my dog up into my truck. All is well. Then she comes back out to collect payment. I didn't have my card, as it was back in the office. I tell her, I need to come in because my phone does a face read upon scanning. She then says we don't take Apple pay. I asked if I had a card reader. She says yes, and I reply, then you take Apple Pay. She says well, I have Apple Pay too, and I can just take your phone inside. I looked at her with a dumbfounded look cause this girl is not the brightest crayon in the box. I hand her my phone, and she looks at it. It finally clicked for her that she needed my face present for it to work. (I will not reset the settings in my phone for a payment just cause this place is being weird). I then enter the establishment to find four girls huddled around the reception desk, not doing anything. One of them put out the card reader (Kaitlyn). I put my phone over the reader it and my phone then scans my face. Boom! Paid. I then ask them why they have to make it so hard to make a payment, and Kaitlyn replies, "Well, because your dog has kennel cough, and we can't have you in here". I said, correct, my dog has it, but I don't "Obviously." She said yeah, but you interact with him. I said, are you serious? You just brought him inside. She then has nothing to say. Cause yeah, that was dumb. Next, I said, this is why I don't come here, and she said that's my choice. I said it is. Then I mentioned that the parking lot was empty, which is probably a sign that customer service is lacking. She said well, it's after hours, and we still fit you on the schedule. It's 3:30 pm at this point. They close at 5 pm on Fridays. I walked out after getting the receipt. On my way out, I passed a gentleman, and I said, beware, they are assholes. He replied, I know. Then I said, oh snap, another one agrees and left. Terrible service, terrible people, paid $80 for the visit and $9.50 for the meds for same-day. These people are loons and awful regarding customer service and logical thinking. Take your pet anywhere else cause this isn't it. Willoughby is the best! Call them instead.

They wanted me to make an appointment to bring the dog in to get an estimate. I'm aware each dog's situation is different, but you can't tell me the person answering the phone (Melissa) doesn't have a price list of what a dental cleaning starts at - ridiculous. I've called a few veterinarians in the East Lansing area, and they had no issue giving me an approximate price. I'm here temporarily from Arizona and in Arizona most of the veterinarians list their pricing on their website! Needless to say, I will not be going to Evergreen.

Unfortunately, I experienced the exact same incompetence, unprofessionalism, and disregard for both pets and their owners that so many have described in the reviews over the years. Carrie Westphal was right: they nickel-and-dime pet owners with unnecessary, overpriced appointments and procedures. Lain's tragedy of a missed heart murmur diagnosis echoes my own experience with their careless medical oversight. Like Zainab, I've been treated with open hostility for asking basic questions. Carsten Walker's account of being blamed for the clinic's own surgical mistakes shows the same refusal to admit error that I encountered. Shauna Soergel's description of staff manhandling anxious pets is not an exaggeration; I've watched them escalate a stressed animal rather than calm it. Cristi's story about Dr. Jones' arrogance? 110% accurate. He is a liability. These are not isolated incidents; they are a consistent pattern of negligence and disrespect toward clients and their pets. My own breaking point came after multiple visits with Dr. Jones. In a 2023 visit, he ignored my explicit instructions and gave my Klee Kai unnecessary vaccines that were not due until the following year. My own records (provided by our previous family vet) show my Morkie was due for rabies 24-Jan-2023, while my Klee Kai was due 13-Feb-2024. Dr. Jones' excuse was "we usually just do both dogs at the same time." This is a textbook violation of informed consent and client autonomy. My final visit was also with Dr. Jones, after I was told my Klee Kai had IVDD by MSU's ER. I scheduled this appointment for long-term care planning. Instead, Dr. Jones simply regurgitated the MSU report back to me nearly verbatim, with awkward silences where paragraphs/thoughts ended in the MSU report. In those awkward silences I thought to myself, "is this a joke?" He came and went from the room multiple times (3+) to check and re-check the MSU reports again and again, he even offered to print them out for me; I was already given copies by MSU. "Dr." Jones never answered my direct questions about preventing disease progression. When I finally asked, "do you even know what IVDD is?" it was clear he had nothing to offer so I ended the appointment. The staff behavior is no better. One assistant ignored me upon arrival, humming and staring at her computer until she decided to check me in. She then stood behind the counter while telling me to weigh my dogs (something every other vet tech I've ever dealt with has done themselves). She snapped at me when I asked, "Isn't that your job?" emphasis was given on "job" not "your". With a raised voice and aggression in her body language, she shouted at me "do not tell me what to do". This not only shows how systemic the issues at this animal clinic are, but it shows the managements total disregard for professionalism and customer-directed incivility. On my last visit, when I refused to pay for a pointless appointment that provided no medical value, the assistant and office manager tried to flag me down in the parking lot, prescription in hand, insisting I "WILL pay." I told them to call the police, twice, because I was not going to be paying them for services I did not receive. Overall, this clinic has: A) a pattern of overcharging and pushing unnecessary procedures and vaccines, and in my experience: without consent. B) Failure to diagnose or discuss serious conditions until it's too late. C) Rude, condescending, and aggressive staff, both in person and over the phone. D) Improper animal handling that can traumatize anxious pets. E) No accountability when they make mistakes. If you care about your pet's health, safety, and emotional well-being and your own sanity: go ANYWHERE else.

It started out not so great as our 13 yo had been in decline for a while. By the time we got to Vegas, she couldn't continue so we had to do one of the hardest things pet owners do, and that's to give your pets relief from their pain. We used Yelp to find a vet near where we were (separate post on this) and they helped Apple the Dapple transition. While in MI, our 18yo, Chipotle, who'd also been in decline had to transition as well and we were referred to Compassion 4 Paws. It's a quaint place, but what it lacks in luxury it makes up in compassion and that's what our little boy needed. They were very caring and handled things in a very delicate way and we were so appreciative. Our little boy had a rough start to life. The vet we adopted him from said he was a bait dog used to train other dogs to fight, given the injuries and nerve damage she observed during his surgery when just a little baby. We tried to give him a good life along with our menagerie of pets. I'm glad we had him for so long and found Dr. Mary and her team to help him transition with the care and dignity he deserved.
