Both served with hot German potato salad and red cabbage. We split the meal and couldn't decide which was best. Both were outstanding! Paired with local red wine and they were surprisingly delicious. Best authentic German meal we've had in many years. Waitress was a little meek but very efficient. Manager stopped by and she was bubbly and fun. We were seated almost immediately and when we made our orders we ordered two orders of fries and a lemon blueberry cheesecake. Looking around, the restaurant was not busy or overwhelmed. So we patiently waited and although we kept seeing the hostess checking to see if we were still there none of our order arrived. Finally after 30+ minutes we decided to leave but we stopped at the front counter to ask what happened to our order. They acted clueless and unaware and that is the cause of this review. DO NOT play in my face. Staff knew we there , knew what we ordered but for whatever reason didn't seem to think our order was worth the time to prepare. Like I said earlier we were full from eating earlier but still just wanted to support this business. Noted : I hope this review gets to the right person to hold staff accountable for disrespecting customers in a nice nasty manner. 9/12/23 is the date . Coming from STL I do not feel appreciated or respected. I will not make this an annual visit at all. The one star is only coming because I have to hit a star to post.

Being in a German town, we had been looking for some good German food, so I was very pleased to see sauerbraten on the menu. The mashed potatoes were the best part of the plate. The fried cabbage lack seasoning and flavor, but the most disappointing part of the meal was the Sauerbraten. I sent it back to the Cook and the manager to see if they could cut the meat. It was literally impossible to cut with a knife and the idea of even chewing it became impossible. Now when I complain at a restaurant I never do it with the intention of receiving any kind of consideration off of the check. However, our waiter came back to tell me that the sauerbraten had been taken off of the bill. I explained that wasn't necessary and went ahead and paid the bill. Interestingly, the sauerbraten had not been removed from the Bill and I paid the $64 bill allowing for a decent tip for our waiter. My suggestion is find another place in town to eat.

After reading many reviews, my sister, mom, and myself decided to get to Ainsley's before it opened on a Sunday. We read there would be a line and the restaurant was small so be ready to wait. Luckily we were second in line. The owner came out before opening the doors and explained to us in a polite way that there were 5 people working and there was more of us than them so please be patient and kind. They prepare all their food from scratch and it takes time, I thought it was very respectful and well said. My sister got the Aebleskivers plate, they were amazing. They are a must try!! I got the omelet which is loaded with vegetables, bacon, and ham. Also amazing! And the price for this size omelet was also pretty amazing. My mom got the balanced breakfast which is your basic breakfast of eggs, a protein, potato, and toast. She ate every bit of it! This place is the real deal. I read some past reviews about service, but honestly we had no problem whatsoever. read more

Since my last post was reported by the group I witnessed yelling and being rude to a young waitress for simply asking them not to bring their alcohol beverages into a family restaurant let me repost for you. This restaurants food is extremely good, they are very good for a small business and stand behind their employees when customers are rude and distasteful. Service was excellent and food was very good. got the French toast special and was phenomena. I love that the owners real people and treat you as family. We were in here about a week or so ago and observed an awful group of "adults" treating a young server very poorly. Was nice to see the owners put their staff and other guests first over money and asked them to politely leave. We need more of that in this world, and to whomever that group was you should be ashamed of yourself! read more

"I prefer the Schnitzel! But, I haven't ever had any spätzle." Wait?!?!?! You are working in a Germanesq restaurant, in a Historic German town, and are over the age of 45. Obviously have worked here for a while. And you don't know what one of the 6 dinner dishes, not a salad or a burger, tastes like?!?!?! I mean... I can understand if it was vegan or something like that... but she just told me that she likes the PORK Schnitzel! Owner/Manager... please make sure your peeps can answer the simple flavor questions. Another place was even able to tell me which wine they thought would go with my food... off the top of her head, and they had more on the menu. That said! All of you who get the chance to eat here should take it! I know when I make it back to Hermann, I will, and I'm sure they will get that last star!

The Gyro was quite filling and will run you around $13.99, including one side. This is a walk up window type place as you can see the photos, and seating is outside under a covered awning, but our sandwiches were served in a Styrofoam clamshell, so you can always get it to go if it's too hot or cold outside.
