Rough day at that emissions testing today. Only 2 bays open and 1 bay seems to be staffed with knowledgeable employees while the other one is 4-5 cars behind. What was supposed to be a 45 min wait is now 1.5 hours with multiple cars still ahead. I'll be here 2+ hours. Meanwhile, there is a line of 20+ cars and 1 employee is on his phone and smoking for over an hour. You're stuck in line and can't get out. Such a bad experience today. read more

I never write reviews, ever. Even when I have poor experiences, I never feel the need to go out of my way to write a bad review. But this was ridiculous. These people look like they are moving in slow motion -- it was painful to watch. I waited in line for over an hour when it could've taken 20-30 minutes. I recently got a car and needed to do an emissions test before I could get a license plate. I did a search online and found this place. I had read on their website the do's and don'ts, and what days and times are best to go. I decided to go during the week on a Tuesday. Upon arrival there is a yellow box to push for a ticket and then the arm gate will open. There were two lines, chose one and waited until it was my turn for the test. The guy that came to my window for my ticket was very polite and explained what I needed to do. The whole process took me about 25 minutes, maybe due to not so many cars in the lines and it was a non chaotic experience for me. read more

Air Care Colorado feels like a scam. First of all, I waited one hour in line to get into the building where it looks like nothing is checked except the gas cap which in my case it failed their test. I was charged $25 for nothing than I drove to an auto parts store and bought a new cap for 16 bucks and installed it. I drove back to the Air Care Colorado station the following morning to sit in line for another hour for a re-inspection. Can't the government do anything right, wait in lines like people have nothing better to do. That is a rhetorical question. It passed their test this time after two hours in a line burning gas with 50 other cars and trucks! I felt like the scam came in when I was called out of the cage to get my car and the tech walked me to the wrong monitor where nothing was on the monitor screen but a blank login. That is where he told me to pay him $25. I looked at him and said it was a re-test and I new a re-test was free, he got a dumb look on his face and said let me check. He took me around to the other side of my car to a monitor that had my test up on it that showed my car had passed the test. He then said it was his mistake and that I was right there was no charge. He than printed the form out and handed it to me, I thought little about it until I got home and I felt like it was a little fishy about what had actually happened. I think now he may have tried to scam me. He would have pocketed $25 if I hadn't read the re-test rules of no cost to the customer. It still seems shady to me and that is why I am writing this review. Be aware if a shady teck gets away with something like that 2 or 3 times a day that is a nice little bonus at your expense! Who else is to know but you and the tech. I'm just saying! Trust no one in this day and age, especially government workers, working for a private company! Most cars pass all these tests, It feels like a money generator that doesn't run out of gas. Someone is getting rich, I don't see any signs on the property that say non-profit! sjj read more

The guys that were working the lanes at the Broomfield station did the best they could. I showed up for a re-test after my car failed the first one. I changed the spark plugs and drove the car around because it had been in storage all winter. It just barely failed the second time. I called the tech support line and they suggested that I call the Broomfield station and schedule an appointment to have diagnostic test run to see what the problem was. So I arrived at my appointment and they took my vehicle in the back and did their testing. About 20 minutes the "technician" Justin, came into the waiting area and started going off on me because my vehicle was modified from the factory configuration. He told me that the only was it would pass emissions was to bring it back to the OEM configuration (which would cost $5-10K. I have had this vehicle for 18 years and it always passes emissions. So I nicely asked Justin why has it passed for the last 18 years? He raised his voice and told the "I just don't go there" you have to change the vehicle back to stock. I then asked him what the check enging light was on for? He said it was because of a MAF Mass Airflow Sensor issue. When there is a problem with MAF it can cause an ignition miss-fire (I did some research and talked to my mechanic) which is what caused the Hydro Carbon reading to be above the limit, unburnt fuel. I apologize for the lengthy story, I took the air filter out of the vehicle and thoroughly cleaned it, because that's what was causing the MAF issue because it was plugged up. My bad for not doing the regular maintenance. After that, I took the vehicle to the Arvada testing station and it passed with flying colors. Rude people that think they know it all just really Pi## me off. I'm all about having my car run as clean as possible, AAC just doesn't have to be jerks about it. I am going to try to find that manager of the Broomfield facility and let them know how rude and unprofessional Jason was. read more

I went to the Broomfield location on Teller Street on 11/18/2024. The car line was out in the street and backed up by about 4 -5 cars. This is a first for me. I have been going to this location for at least 10 years and the car line are normally 1-3 cars and I get good service. The service was terrible yesterday simply because the car line was so long. I did not wait. We are supposed to be reducing emissions and the cars in the long line were idling a much longer duration than needed. This is very, very poor service. read more

I've been out to this place in Broomfield twice no and found lines too long to wait. A roving employee walked by us cars in line assuring everyone it was a "half-hour wait, or thereabouts." That's what they said the first time i tried, too. But the test takes 20 minutes for each car, and when you are eight or ninth in line, you know you will be there nearly two hours. Only two of four lanes are functioning, unlike when this place was in other hands, and three or four lanes worked. I was stuck so far back today that I wasn't quite to the gate, whose arm was permanently "up" what with bumper to bumper waiting, and so entry tickets couldn't be issued, either. I came home and called Air Care and asked about the wasit at Longmont. The operator was very surly--and ignorant to boot--and acted generally pretty "wise," feigning to not "get" my questions. She finally told me that this was a general call center, not Longmont as advertised, and how could she be sure what the wait was anywhere? She tried the old "half-hour" on me and i scoffed. It seems that this is the party line: "a "half-hour." But you'd better figure 3-4 times that and bring coffee and sandwiches, some reading, and maybe a bottle of hooch. Oops, no drinking and driving! Take your best girlfriend and pull down the shades of your Auburn or Deusenberg while waiting. Mais voyons, his company is an abolute zero, up and running only because they have the only game in town. I had a decent experience here, surprisingly since it's the end of the month. I drove up, grabbed a gate ticket, waited in line. About 10 mins, there were 2 lines one for regular vehicles and another for AWD and 4x4. I took the right side since I have a truck. The other lane opened up and the attendants ushered me into the faster line. I waited less than 10 mins in a long corridor, you can watch them conduct the emissions testing on your vehicle. There's a vending machine at the front of the waiting area. When your vehicle is done they wave you over to pay and get your emissions certificate. Better than I expected and they also do VIN verification for your vehicle for $20, the emissions test is $25. You'll need them if you want to register your vehicle for Colorado plates. read more

I saw some negative reviews on here, but I didn't have a lot of options. I went by and to my great surprise there were absolutely no lines. I took my bike for a VIN verification and then proceeded to take my Toyota and Honda for emissions and VIN. Each time the wait was 5 minutes or so. Hondas have a weird issue: if your tire pressure light is on then they can't turn off traction control to smog test. The technician came over to me and asked if he could try to unplug the fuse, which he did successfully. It saved me time and money and I appreciate him going the extra mile to help me out. Never a fan of having to pay for smog testing but all things considered the technicians were kind, respectful and helped me out. read more

When you provide a "service" that people must (by law) pay for, there's NO excuse for poor service. You have the monopoly so you have an obligation to provide the best customer service possible. I've been sitting line for 20 minutes and it hasn't moved. The line is back up past the entrance gate. Whoever is managing this location should be ashamed. People are literally getting out of their cars and walking up to examine lines and ask employees what's going on. This is what government for government looks like. read more

I remember when I first moved to Colorado and had to get my vehicle "emissions certified" they put it on the dyno and connected many hoses to it and checked everything out. now, many years later and with the EPA and other federal government agencies mandating stricter and tighter rules for car manufactures to produce cleaner running cars all the employees at this location did to my vehicle now was to look at my gas cap to see if it was venting fumes or not. thats it and nothing else, and my wallet was $25 lighter. what a racket, its like standing in line paying for somebody to punch you in the stomach! read more

Feels weird to review a smog center. Anyway came in Saturday morning at 10pm. Anticipated it would be a long wait. But honestly I was the only person there. Gasp! Drive there wasn't too long, but very surprised that this smog check centers are so few and far apart. Nevertheless, it was super quick I drove in they have separate lanes (doesn't seem to be separated in any specific fashion) just to efficiently service citizens. They looked at my car (vin, mileage, engine light activity asked if it was a front wheel drive) Not a whole lot mechanically was done to my car. I drove up to the next stop paid the bill about ~$40 (yup they take card) total they handed me two slips of paper and I was on my merry way. Everyone wears a mask here. So that's cool also yeah no mask no service. read more

Waited in line for an hour at the 44th and McIntyre location only to be told after testing that there was something wrong with my car and they couldn't pass it. I pressed them on specificity but nothing. All they could say is that they couldn't get it up to speed and stop it within the time parameters. As I drove away I realized that two different 20 something years olds were in my car and they didn't know how to drive a standard transmission! I then went to the Broomfield station off 116th and Teller. An older gentleman ran it and and viola! It passed! So I spent the entire afternoon...two hours per line plus all the driving because of some poorly trained employees. China and India are polluting our world, but hey, I should feel good I am doing my part. read more

Pulled into the bay as directed. Two minutes later, he was done plugging /unplugging a wire into my car. Told to wait for the car in front of me to finish its testing. 15 mins. later, I asked if I could move into the other, empty bay to finish testing. He said, "no, there's another car pulling up." Finally, the car in front of me finished up. Apparently, they thought it was perfectly fine to allow me to sit and wait for 20 mins. in order to pay the $25. fee. I took my car to the Colorado Air Care CO in their Castle Rock location to get a VIN verification. I had two people stand by my car and say that they prioritize emissions testing over VIN Verifications. There was NO other car on the lot. None inside, none waiting or none had even taken a priority ticket. I was shocked and looked around in amazement and questioned these two people on WHO they were prioritizing? It takes less than 5 minutes to do a VIN verification. One of them sternly looked at me and said that he cannot have others wait as emissions are prioritized. Really? I asked. Who exactly are you prioritizing? He again looked at me and said that he cannot do my verification. So I had to take over an hour of my time and drive both ways to Highlands Ranch to get this verification. Ridiculous? I think so! BTW, the person who did this verification in the Highlands Ranch location was awesome. He did this right away with no waiting and it was done in less than 5 minutes. He was very courteous. Interestingly enough, there were about 8 cars waiting for their emissions testing. I am disgusted by this incident. read more

OH GODDDDDD. Don't you love places that you HAVE to visit? Like, you have no option BUT to go here if you need your emissions tested. Sorry, pal, enjoy your unfriendly trip to the emissions testing center. Everyone I spoke to there sort of just grunted "words" or completely ignored me. The only slightly saving grace: it's a big place, so they are able to handle a lot of traffic. You might not have to wait too long if you pick a good time to go. But don't expect anybody to hold your hand through the process. Just show up, drive around until someone tells you to stop, go where they tell you to, then wait for somebody to tell you to come and pay them. Go with a friend- maybe that would make it a more pleasant experience. read more

No plastic. Waiting area is a little hall with nasty dirty little chairs that look like they have never been cleaned. Tiny little TV that you can't hear over the droning of the machine sitting in the holding cell. All in all a miserable little place to spend 30 minutes. read more

FRAUD ALERT: These people will take you for everything you have if you don't walk in there 100% informed. We went in for an emissions test in order to switch our tags over to CO plates, and were told that in addition to the emissions test we also needed a signature on the VIN form we had. They quoted us $20 for the signature on top of the $25 for the emissions test. Low and behold, we were told we did NOT need that at the DMV. These people are scam artists enabled by government mandated emissions tests. read more

My car had an emissions test done by the dealer in June. Not familiar with Colorado emissions, I decided to drive down here and ask if that test would be sufficient to register my vehicle. After one employee said it would be ok, another employee said no, I would have to do another on my own, so I went ahead and had another check done and paid up. Wow! The staff was fast, friendly, and efficient. Even with several cars ahead of me, I was in and out within half an hour. The only black mark was the huge, humming machines in the waiting area, that made my head swim (THRUM THRUM THRUM!) But overall, I was amazed at how painless this experience was. Everytime I go they are fast. Get the job done and I'm on my way. Yes they get busy so you may have to wait but that's life. They do their best. They don't talk much but I'm cool with that as it means they are plugging along. They are always friendly. Can't complain. read more
