I thought they did a great job. The equipment that they installed was top quality and the plumbers who did the work were courteous, respectful of my home and knowledgeable. This year, I had a plumbing inspection by a third party who informed me that due to code, I needed an expansion tank for the heater. I called Mr. Rooter to inquire and they sent the original plumber to inspect. They agreed to install the tank at no cost to me other than for the tank and pipe, which I did not purchase the first time. He returned and replaced the dip tube, which corrected the problem. We have used Universal previously and were satisfied with their service and price - especially because we dealt with Stephan. However, on this occasion the price of the part (the dip tube) was priced exorbitantly. We complained and were offered a 10% senior discount, which did not compensate for the overpriced part. We had Universal come out to look at it and perform the repairs. They replaced the compressor and a belt in the outside unit. They did an excellent job and all the work was completed in one day. Since the repairs, our electric bills have dropped by about 35%. I wish I had called them sooner! Universal is an excellent company. They do quality work and reasonable prices. It was pretty easy to submit my preferences and my situation online, and, within 24 hours, I received a call to schedule and, for my second appointment when I couldn't accept a call at the time, an email to set one up a few days after my request. They gave me an option of 30-minute or 60-minute notice. I received a call and a little over an hour later, the service man had arrived. He assessed the equipment and stated that the previous handyman had irreparably damaged it, and it needed replacing. He gave me a quote for the replacement and his recommendations for the equipment. On the second appointment, a different service man arrived and completely replaced the equipment within 20 minutes. He kept the word of the prior quote and charged only that. I have not had issues since. Value: The cost for the assessment was $150. The cost for the replacement was $300, not including parts, which I obtained on my own. They were upfront about their costs, but I would say $450 to have my equipment in place. It took a few days from when I scheduled to when I could have an appointment. And then it took another few days after I obtained the replacement equipment before my appointment, so it ended up being a couple of weeks without a working faucet. I've had other services were the initial assessment is included in the final price after repair. Overall: They offer relatively quick and efficient services with convenient scheduling. The cost can be a big prohibitive, but, if you decide to move forward with them, then I recommend identifying and obtaining parts before your appointment.
