I didn't get to wrestle a gator but that's ok cause we had so much fun! Anyway, you can't visit Nawlins without venturing to the bayou to see the gators! There are a few airboat tour companies near New Orleans, but we decided to go with Airboat Adventures due to the price and positive reviews online. I booked the tour online through their website. If you want something more private, go witha smaller airboat, which is a bit more expensive than the large airboat. But because we're chickens, we decided to go with the larger airboat that held more people. The tour offers transportation to their location by bus for an extra fee, but we decided to drive our own car since they provided on-site parking. I do recommend driving your own car, because the drive was absolutely scenic. A lot of green and we got to see all the beautiful houses built on stilts on the way. Not to mention, it's about a 30 min drive from New Orleans. When we arrived, there were plenty of parking. They also had bathrooms inside and on the exterior of their store, which were very clean! Inside the store, you can check out a live albino alligator and take photos while you wait. You can also wait outside on the dock -- plenty of seating and you can grab a drink at the bar. The tour was amazing and so was our tour guide. The weather was nice, we saw a lot of gators sunbathing a bald eagle, and its nest. It was more than what I expected! Everyone in my party had a great time and more memories were made! Side note: Airboats are very loud so make sure you keep the headphones on! read more

But your provided with ear protector wear if you wish to use it. It doesnt matter what side you sit on. If theres a gator... the guide would have one side of the boat see it. Airboat Adventures didn't respond privately to the feedback surveys I submitted, so here it goes. A friend and I went on a tour in late April. Our tour guide never introduced himself, so I couldn't tell you his name, but the only fact he shared about alligators/the area/anything related along the 1hr+ tour was that "they got the idea for Princess and the Frog here." Everything else he shared on the tour was somehow unrelated or personal (like at the end, when he took us out somewhere and said "this all used to be my daddy's land"). Most of the time he spent talking about how much he works, how much he hates his job, and how he wants to quit so bad (referring to being an alligator airboat tour guide). He also seemed to know another group of passengers on the boat. He sat them in the front and talked to them about 90% of the time, catching up on family and friends and talking about being drinking buddies 15+ years ago. Three groups total on the boat; us and the row behind us were largely ignored. When we did see alligators, our tour guide just brought our boat next to another guide's boat, and the other guide, Tik Tok, who seemed fun and really engaged with his passengers, gave a good show. But that was literally the only good part. Go somewhere else for airboat tours, too inconsistent in quality of tours. read more

We just took a privateish small boat tour There was 6 of us and 4 other folks for a total of 10 and qe had the BEST time. Kentucky, Indiana and Texas IN THA HOUSE! OUR tour guy was awesome! He called the gators in French and they ACTUALLY came swimming straight to the boat. We seen a total of 6 gators at various intervals during our trip which was the highlight. We also seen a rare purple bird that our guide was over the moon about. The ones with the chicken feet and duck bill. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY it is the most dishonest and disorganized organization in the city. As we were on the bus heading to the dock they called to say that our group of 4 needed to be split up. Their excuse was that we were the last party to book the day before. There were a multitude of solutions they could have offered: 1) told us when we booked that we possibly could have been separated. 2) called us BEFORE we got on the bus to tell us the situation and ASKED us if we wanted a refund. Clearly they knew that if they called while we were on the bus it would be too tough to cancel. The two women at the desk were not helpful at all. There were definitely other combinations of solutions to keep our party of 4 together. In addition to this upset there was tons of chaos in boarding the boat. We went on the covered boat tour and I truly enjoyed the experience, the guide was very friendly, and gave us lots of information and really made a point to respect everyone's time for those who wanted to hear all about the ecosystem we were experiencing. Driver and guide were the best staff, the rest of the staff were fine but I'm sure they could have been overwhelmed by the amount of people they have to work with at a time. We had an absolute blast!! Gators coming right up to the boat, like little torpedoes! It's insane!!! The racoon acted as if it was on camera ready for a show! Taking the pontoon boat versus the faster airboat is the way to go, covered, quieter, and superbly engaging. We felt like they could nearly climb into the boat. My 7 and 10 year old boys were squealing with joy with each gator, at one point 5+ at surrounding the boat. The amount of time on the water was a blast, and the albino gator at the facility was a miracle!! We were so very close. Very nice tour. Takes @ an hour and forty five minutes. They recommend you not take the airboat if you have back or neck injuries... I have both so I rode the pontoon. It was cool and had handicap access. Facilities were good and equipment was well maintained... all boats started immediately... if you are a boater you know that's impressive. The guide was an excellent boat handler... I know because I am a horrible boat handler and he didn't do any of the stupid stuff I do. Amazing, must do stop when in New Orleans. Bourbon Street hotel pickup and drop off was incredibly convenient and affordable. It was nice to see various parts of Nola on the drive out to the launch bay. The driver pointed out a really old cool tree along the way. Once we arrived, we made our way into the store to use the facilities and observe the albino alligator, which I'm not going to lie: kinda freaked me out. I mean, it's awesome. It's just so intense looking! They have drinks, snacks & merch available. We were then directed up to the dock where they have more restrooms & beverages available. Once we boarded our airboat, our awesome captain gave us optional ear protection took us out into the swamp. I loved the adrenaline rush of gilding over the water. It drizzled on us a little and I was sure glad I had brought layers. We got to see owls, cranes, alligators, and more! The swamp ambiance is simply gorgeous. The cemetery was also very cool. Recommended by friends I'm so glad I got to do this on the first day I arrived. We were blessed by beautiful weather and therefore the alligators! You check in at the gift shop in front where you can buy all the typical gator souvenirs. They have different options. We chose the high speed boat for $89 which included transportation to and from our hotel which was about a half an hour drive. Such a great experience to see the wild life and swamp of Louisiana. It gives you a sense of the geography to be in the bayou which eventually leads to the Gulf. We got to see egrets, cormorants, barn owls and lots of alligators of all sizes! While my friends and I were in NO for a bachelor party we decided to take an airboat tour at kind of the last minute and I'm glad we did. I believe our Airboat Captain was Christina(sp?) and she was absolutely amazing. Other than the awesome swamp area, she showed us some legit wild alligators, and a 300+ year old cemetary. This was an amazing tour. We took the small boat to allow for a more intimate look into the area. We absolutely loved this. Would come again. If you're deciding on whether or not to add this to your itinerary, DO IT!!!! Captain Zach was fun, informative, gentle and loving with the crocs and a really cool guy! Get on his boat if you can. We elected to drive to the site on our own. And happy that we did as we were able to explore on our own afterwards instead of going directly back to our hotel. Ticket purchasing was easy, we purchased through the website and we were able to communicate any questions via text. Upon arrival, Check in at the smaller building. The ladies there were very nice and check in was super easy. Walk over to the deck. Took some cool pics that you can pick up before leaving for a very reasonable price. Make your way to the bar, grab a slush drink. Refills (after the tour) are half priced. These are super refreshing when it gets hot on the boat. The ride is super cool. Captain Zach gave us a bunch of cool historical facts about the area and tons of information about the animals and habitat. You won't get wet. You do get a great close up view of the animals. All around a great tour! Smooth pick up right from my hotel. A 30-45 min shuttle to the docks. Easy check in. A cute gift shop and a bar to grab drinks while you wait and one for the boat if you so desire. Luke was my guide and took us to plenty of viewing areas in the bayou. We saw birds, turtles and of course crocs! Loads of them! I only wished I splurged for a smaller tour. Sitting in the middle of the large tour boat, it's hard to see straight on the larger boats due to the wind fender in front. Once the boat stops, which it does multiple times, you are able to stand to take photos and see better. All in all a MUST DO! read more

There is no visiting Nawlins without a gator tour amirite? With so many to choose from, my ol'lady picked this one and we had a great time. Our host was the swamp guru man himself aka Lou. Very knowledgeable of the area and rich history of the environment ecosystem. We didn't see any huge gators but we saw a few 6 footers that were friendly and not shy. We went on an early tour which I'd strongly advise in the summer time. I couldn't imagine the heat in the afternoon here lol. They also have a pretty cool gift shop where you need to check in at beforehand. Plenty of parking available too btw. read more
