My sister and I had a really amazing time on the Dolphin Jet Boat tours. We were picked up in Juneau by the tramway and taken via bus to the pier. We had a very lucky experience when it comes to wildlife seeing eagles, sea lions, and a whale up close and personal. The whale name Kelp came within just a few feet of our vessel when it took its dives. Our captain knew just where to position us for the best views. Our guides were really knowledgeable and gave us tons of information. An added bonus was getting snacks, water and hot chocolate on board. Would definitely recommend this company! read more

Wow, what an adventure! We booked the Mendenhall Glacier and Whale Watching Tour We took a bus to the whale watching dock and to the glacier area with a bus driver named Rita who was kind and funny. She shared some interesting facts about Juneau on our way there, including how the city came to be named. The whale watching tour was spectacular. Many of these tours guarantee whale sightings and we sure saw some whales - probably at least 3-5, with one coming within a hundred feet of the boat! We also got lucky and saw a pod of orcas. They provide you free snacks on the boat too. Thanks to Jay and Jade for making it such a fantastic ride! Then we went to see the glacier. This part is self-guided and you have ~1 hour to explore. They drop you off next to the Visitor Center and then you can hike some trails if you'd like. Heads up - to hike any of the trails, you have to pay $5 per person, which I don't think is included in this ticket price. We unfortunately didn't have time to do the hike to Nugget Falls, and it also was rainy/foggy, so we couldn't really see the glacier either a little disappointing, but still beautiful. Nothing short of magical, and worth the $! read more

We had a very interesting tour. Captain Sam and First Officer Savannah were great. They were very friendly and helpful. They guided us to a few whale viewings immediately. The jet boat tour was cut short due to a MAYDAY broadcast and that's totally fine. However, when we got back to the dock, the land crew was not very coordinated or understanding. There were no apologies for the inconvenience. No one guided us to the bus for the glacier portion since we arrived early unexpectedly. One person from our group asked a female bus driver and her response was "If you didn't come with me then I'm not taking you." Not even a "Let me find out" or being helpful. It started well with the boat crew but not with the land crew. read more

All aboard with this fantastic crew that consisted of Capt. Simon, Naturalist Savanah, Naturalist Libbie. These three were the best whale watching tour guides on the water. How Capt. Simon got us into the center of the action was amazing. Then Savanah and Libbie took over and informed us on everything we were seeing regarding the activity of the whales. We learned so much about these majestic mammals habits from eating, diving, breathing and right down to their names as they were able to identify them by their tail fluke markings. We were constantly told in what direction to look as the packs or single whale surface to breath before diving down again or swim along the water surface. With all the activity in the water to our front, rear and sides we were working up a appetite for all our great photo opportunities. Thankfully the crew provided such a wonderful selections of free snacks and beverages to keep our strength up. As Mother Nature gave us a great day to enjoy our day, Alaska Whale Watch Tours gave us a Crew I would highly recommend. read more

We had a fantastic time with everyone and saw a pod of orcas and plenty of humpback whales on the whale watching tour with a peek of the Mendenhall glacier. I've done a few whaling tours and this is by far my favorite. Savannah was our tour guide and Simon the captain, both were so awesome. We got hot chocolate and a nice hefty snack pack as a treat. Was quite unexpected how many snacks were in the bag. I'm glad we got a peek of the glacier because there were crazy mosquitos and we were not ready for that. Would highly recommend. read more

Good trip around Auk Bay. We picked this excursion by chance, and it was fun and less crowded than other whale spotting trips. We got picked up at the Juneau Town center, and got a fabulous ride from Charlie who took us from Juneau to the Mendenhall Glacier National Park prior to our whale watching trip. He was great and brought a kinda Shaggy (from Scooby Doo fame) personality to the trip. Very entertaining. We got 45min on ground at the visitor center area and got close enough to see the glacier at 2 miles away. If we had more time we might have been able to walk to the falls...but the whales were waiting on us. When we got to Auk Bay, we got on a boat, and Rio took over as the narrator for the trip. He explained what we're looking for and how close by law we could get to the whales, if we were lucky enough to spot some. We got to see two sets of whales in their familiar hangouts. Before the trip's end we were able to catch some Bay seal lions hanging out on a pier. Overall, I was glad it was a calm boat ride, we got to see some wildlife...enjoy some of the glaciers and the sunset side of Juneau and Auk Bay. Good trip. read more

Super easy review to write - crew is absolutely awesome! Started with a clean comfortable bus ride with Charley from the cruise ship pier to our boat. By the way our tour boat was very comfortable and super clean. Yes, we saw plenty of whales. Captain Jay did what it took to make sure we saw many whales up close and personal. Nia is easily the best tour guide we have ever experienced! And we've done many tours. Her knowledge and attitude are unmatched. She deserves kudos and a whole lot more. Captain Perry and Dr Dan were so knowledgeable about whales! I learned so much from Dr Dan, and Captain Perry put the boat in the perfect spot every time we saw a whale. You can tell love their jobs and they love the whales. Also, since they're jet boats, they don't risk hurting the whales with propellers. We had 20 people on our tour, which was a great size! They gave us snacks and whenever we were still they let us stand outside. The boat also had windows that opened if you didn't want to stand. read more

We did the whale watching + Mendenhall glacier excursion. The whale whale watching boat tour was incredible! The boat had an inside area which was great for the cold. The viewing decks on the front and back were also great to get a better look when we slowed down. We saw whales several times. We saw grey whales and orca whales which our amazing guide Savanah said was pretty rare to see both in the same area. We also saw sea lions. They did a great job explaining facts about the whales, the area, and answering any questions you had. They were very friendly and accommodating. They even offered snacks, coffee, and hot chocolate. The ride was about 2 hours if I remember correctly. The views were incredible. Overall definitely recommend this family owned business. read more

This is a family owned company and they treat you like family from the minute you get on board. Our captain Austin was so personable and knowledgeable and an excellent boat handler. A really long shuttle line had us stressing when we missed our excursion start time, but this group was extremely accommodating and immediately got us on a different tour starting 10 minutes later. Everyone we interacted with from this group was so kind and informative. And at the end they took us straight to our cruise ship. Definitely worth supporting this small family business! We were so happy with this tour. It was a small group bus and boat (about 25 people), which was much more comfortable than a coach bus and crowded boat. They guaranteed we would see a whale and we did! So many, all around the boat . There was plenty of room on the front and back decks and the big windows inside opened. We happened to have great weather! The guide gave us a lot of educational information about whales and was available to answer questions. The boat had a bathroom! And they gave us bags of snacks, which was an unexpected treat. Highly recommended. read more

Our family of seven, including four seniors, had a wonderful whale-watching tour with Dolphin Jet Set Tours in early August. We weren't sure what to expect, but the self-transfer from cruise ship to the pick-up spot was as easy as following the simple instructions we were given, and everyone made it in plenty of time. We were blown away by the number of animals we were able to spot, including some bonus Dall's porpoises who also wanted attention from us. We got lucky seeing humpback after humpback appear, and could even hear them exhaling across the water. Wow. I also have a shout-out for customer service. I initially misbooked our tour for the wrong date, and the company automatically rescheduled me to the right date with no penalty charge, without even requiring a phone call after I sent a frantic email. (I found out the hard way when they had to call me to ask if we were showing up when we weren't even in Alaska yet!) They saved me so much stress when I was already on the go, and I'm deeply grateful. read more

Dolphin tours was awesome!!! We started at the meet up spot greeted by the two young men (who we found out are twins!) who told us about what it's like growing up in Juneau. Our naturalist, Ethan, shared details of humpbacks and orcas. He knew the whales we saw by name too. Captain was a funny guide and great skipper! Two and a half hours we'll spent!!! read more

These guys were great. Very hospitable and clearly knowledgeable. Captain Perry did a good job getting us close without going over the legal limit. We probably saw at least 15 whales give or take. The guy on the ship, I think it was Dennis maybe,? I can't remember, only that he goes to MX on the off season. He was extremely knowledgeable and experienced and you could tell he is passionate about his job. Really worth every penny (and the tip)! read more

Book with confidence! The employees were super friendly and knowledgeable prior to whale watching booking, and answered all my questions with patience. I was not able to make the tour due to sudden child emergency, and they were very understanding and issued a refund. I would highly suggest not booking this company. They cancelled last minute do to mechanical issues. They were still taking out tours so we found it interesting. Also, all the other tour operators knew right away it was this company that cancelled. They all told us they cancel routinely. We were able to rebook insight with Alaskan Tales for less! read more

Such an excellent adventure today. From the bus ride where we were entertained by Anatoly, we saw a bear! On the super clean, super clean and safe. We saw bald eagles, a pod of 16 or 17 orcas and 3 hump back whales. Well operated, family business. read more

Had a fantastic experience today with Dolphin tours. Captain Cat was an amazing boat driver and made sure that we had the best possible views of the whales we were able to see. We had two knowledgeable naturalists who shared great information about whales as we drove and experienced the whales in the wild. They provided hot chocolate, bottled water, and snacks. This tour was great! Our two guides were extremely knowledgeable and able to answer all questions. They knew exactly where to take us to see whales. We saw a number of humpback whales...many breaching! We also saw sea lions and eagles throughout our tour. It was raining but that didn't stop us from having a great time! We saw multiple whales, including a mom and baby The captain and tour guide, Taylor and Bri, were obviously very passionate about the whales and extremely knowledgeable not only about whales in general but about each specific whale in the are (Names, ages, habits, etc.) Highly recommend this tour and these lovely ladies as your crew! Fantastic tour with a great guide and boat captain that got us in position to see lots of whales and even some orcas! This is a smaller family owned tour and we are so glad we chose this one over the ones that were available from our cruise ship. There were maybe 25 folks on our boat and everyone had a great view and were able to go the front and back decks for even better views. Would highly recommend! read more

Experiencing this disappointment in real time. We arrive with our family of 7 for an afternoon of whale watching and touring the nearby glacier. After a 25-30 minute drive to the harbor to depart on our boat, we are then told by the Dolphin staff that they knowingly overbooked on our boat by 10 people. Without enough volunteers to adjust their plans we were left as the only ones to adjust off the boat. Very disappointing that they waited until the last minute to communicate this overbooking issue ahead of arrival at the harbor. read more

Rio and Keryl were amazing naturalists on the tour I was on (5/24 at 2:30pm) they gave great information and pointed out so many different things. On the other hand I noticed that the captain, John, was treating the naturalists unfairly by micromanaging them and seeming to think they don't know how to work their job. He seemed to be very rude and to be honest an asshole and I don't think this should be his place of work anymore. read more

I booked a shore excursion in Juneau through viator.com and I'm so glad I did. The local tour company they used was Dolphin Jet Tours. The rate was very reasonable (per person) when I booked via viator.com, and since this was my first time using the site, I wasn't sure what to expect. We met up with Dolphin Jet Tours per instructions from viator.com. Hopped on a bus and off we went to the boat dock to start our whale watching. Our whale watching guides were Ali and Leanne, with Captain John. Ali and Leanne were fun and informative. 4.5 hours from 9am-1:30pm (includes 2 hours of watch watching and 1 hour at Mendenhall Glacier) Restroom on board, with bagels, hot chocolate and water/soda served to all whale watchers! Last week, we were in for a REAL treat! There were humpback whales swimming by left and right, every which way you can think of! We saw at least a dozen of them, and they were all so close to our boat. We couldn't believe it! So many boats were also in our area, and they were in for a treat too. :) Our guides even said that they haven't seen so many whales (at the frequency and quality) that we did when we went on our whale watching trip! Those animals were absolutely amazing, we were SO STOKED and TOTALLY AWESTRUCK. This shore excursion turned out to be one of the best, and we were so fortunate and lucky. After our whale watching experience, we went to the Mendenhall Glacier for a hike and visit. Both excursions were fabulous! read more

Disappointing and Overpriced Halibut Charter Experience Our…read moreexperience was poor to average. We are a family of four with two girls, ages 11 and 14, and this charter was not a good fit for us this past August, 2025. We were surprised to learn that guides were not allowed to help reel in the fish until they could actually see it at the water line. When fishing for halibut, the line is dropped over 300 feet with a two-pound weight to reach the bottom. Between the weight, the depth, and the rocky waves, it was nearly impossible for our daughters--and admittedly myself--to reel in a fish without assistance. For the price we paid, and after several conversations with the owner before booking, we were disappointed this was never explained upfront. It would have been helpful to know this charter was not ideal for families with kids or teens. We were also frustrated by the lack of basic amenities. The toilet on board was broken, leaving only a bucket with no toilet paper as the option. For almost $2,000, this felt unacceptable. No bottled water or beverages were provided, and the only snack was a single granola bar for a five-hour trip. For a premium charter, this fell far short of expectations. Another disappointment was with the fish processing. We paid the owner in advance for our three fish to be filleted and shipped home, only to be asked again for our credit card later to cover separate shipping charges. This was never made clear and felt misleading. Lastly, we did not catch our limit, and both the guide and captain repeatedly mentioned that a large fishing competition had just taken place in the area over the previous three days. Their exact words were: "It's not good fishing today, it's been way overfished the last few days and it will take about two weeks to get the halibut back to this area." It left us questioning why guests were still being booked at full price when conditions were known to be poor. In the end, we spent a lot of money for what turned out to be an average experience, with limited access to fish and very little in the way of customer service.

I can't imagine all of the other operators were breaking the rules. Even with 25× zoom on my phone, I couldn't get clear photos, and binoculars were almost required. Whales are plentiful in Alaska, so finding them isn't the issue--the viewing distance is. Staying so far away made this much less exciting than other whale watching tours I've been on. I would choose a different operator next time - sadly we don't know when will we be back to Alaska.

We booked an 8 hour salmon and halibut fishing excursion and…read moreasked if they could find 1 or 2 more people to go out with us on the date of our tour so that the price would go down a bit since originally we only had 3 people. Captain Mike found us one other person to go which dropped our prices by around $20/PERSON. They were a little late starting the day because they had to pick up the other passenger from his cruise ship. Captain Mike said not to worry because they would keep us out longer to compensate for the lost time, which he did. Once we arrived at the first fishing spot, Captain David gave us a brief but thorough tutorial on how to reel in the big fish without hurting ourselves (backs) and tiring yourself out since we would be reeling from depths of 250-300 feet. This info was more valuable than I can tell you!! We went to 6 or 7 halibut fishing spots in the AM, then fished for salmon in the afternoon. We had a good catch overall for the day. Captain David event called out to his whale watching friends to find out if there were any whales to see that day. He took us over to where we might find them, but they were not around. He then took us to see some local sea lions up close and bald eagles in their natural habitat along the water. I appreciate the extra effort! When we got back to the dock, Jack gave us a masterclass on cleaning and filleting the halibut, rock fish, and cod we wanted to take with us to eat for dinner. He then gutted and beheaded the rest of the fish so they would be lighter for processing by the pound. Big Jim's suggested a fairly priced processing plant that froze our freshly caught fish and shipped it directly to our homes. --We had a great experience with Big Jim's Charters and will definitely book them when we return to Juneau and tell all of our friends to do the same! Holding only 6 guests it makes viewing so much more relaxed as you're not fighting for positions on a bigger boat. You have more of a one on one experience. They also supply you with some binoculars if you didn't bring yours. If you're a photographer this is a great way to get some amazing shots without jockeying for positions to shoot. Great for families as the captains are very knowledgeable about the area and what nature it has to hold. I've been fortunate to be a guest for 3 trips now. Just getting back last week from an amazing tour with Capt Alana. Also got to experience her new boat Naughty Girl. All of Jayleens boats are top notch amazing quality boat's. And transportation from the ship to marina was easy. Pick up is right across the street at the Red Dog Saloon (Side note had a good burger there for lunch after the tout) Seen a lot of whale activity with tail slapping and jumping we only had 3 people on board for this trip so it was like my own boat. Seen whales, eagles, seals porpoise and even a bear on the ride back to town. I'd 1000% recommend Jayleen and her team for an amazing tour in Juneau.

If you are planning a trip to Juneau definitely plan a tour with Jayleen, you will not be disappointed. Even though it can be unpredictable, we did see hump back whales, orcas and sea lions. Again a 10/10 experience.

We saw Bubble Netting- (we didnt know what it was until he told us- but I can tell you it is something to make even the biggest National Graphic enthusiast green with envy!) And his wife prepares food for the trip and makes unreal homemade brownies! A once in a lifetime adventure- unless you book it again :) He is amazing - one of the biggest reasons we will miss Alaska! When…read morewe docked in Juneau, we decided to wing it and find a whale-watching tour and a way to see the glacier. There were several options available when we got off the ship, and luckily, we chose the right one! The bus was nice, and the whale-watching boat was great. It was clean, had plenty of seating, and the staff was incredibly friendly. They made the experience fun and interesting, and we were lucky enough to see whales! Our bus driver was also fantastic. He was very friendly, shared lots of history about the area, and pointed out bald eagles along the way. The captain of the boat was also super friendly, and they even provided snacks during the tour. The tour also took us to see the glacier. They dropped us off and gave us a specific time to meet back up, then picked us up and brought us back to the ship. We made it back to the ship on time, which was important since we were on a cruise. If I ever come back to Juneau, I will definitely use this company again. Next time, I'll know exactly who to book with in advance! Five stars all around! Ps. I also took pictures of whales that we've seen. We were able to see six, but I took the pictures with my other phone.

We booked Liquid Alaska Tours for our canoe experience as there were very little excursions…read moreavailable since we booked so last minute. We booked through Tripadvisor and the cost for the canoe for each person was about $230 each (pricey, I know). We were pretty bummed when we found out that our tour didn't include getting off the canoe to get up close to the glacier, especially since the price was quite steep. The photos on Tripadvisor and Viator show that the people do in fact get off the boat, but apparently it was incorrect (false advertisement imo). What I will say was the saving grace was the fact the scenery of this canoe ride was epic. There's a lot that can't be seen unless you take a helicopter, seaplane, kayak, or canoe up close to the Mendenhall Glacier. Our tour guide, Dawson was also great. He was full of dad jokes throughout the whole canoe ride. P.S. Don't think you're gonna get off this easy! The canoe ride was an exercise to say the least! My arms were sore the next day!
