    Breakfast burrito
    Matthew M.

We had a great breakfast at this underrated, peaceful, and friendly cafe next to the airfield. They have a covered deck for outdoor dining. I had the breakfast burrito and it was filling and tasty. Reasonably priced. Will be back.

Flew in with a friend for lunch. We called ahead for opening hours and the lady running the cafe that day gave us some info on local weather and, later, a wind check on our way across Lake Isabella. Food was OK - standard short order fare. Excuse me if I don't praise it as highly as others but it's not why you should visit. Apart from the challenge of the journey here, the view from the deck is beautiful when the sun is out, with the runway out front and the river and mountains behind. The cafe has a few tables inside too; in winter perhaps next to the iron stove is the best place to be. On the weekday we visited it was a one person show, with Shawn taking orders, doing the cooking and cleaning, and chatting about local history and events. They have a crew car but it's a bit sick at the moment. However, if you ask there might be some bicycles to borrow for free, and if they have time and you're not an ass one of the locals will probably drive you the few miles to Kernville. Have been back; will be back.

Not even the woman of Bodfish can withstand the mighty Pilot Burger!

The mighty PILOT BURGER beats any burger from the Kern Brewery. This is a nice small place to eat at, outdoor seating is nice if it isn't to cold or to hot.

Fantastic service, huge tasty burgers (big enough to split the Co-Pilot; can't imagine how big the Pilot burger is), and gigantic plate of fries. Come hungry and enjoy the hometown service. We flew in and tied down directly in front of the restaurant. Will definately fly in again. Shawn is the air traffic controller, waitress, and about six other positions.; see is sooooooo nice. The chef is Bea and she makes a great burger.

There are 10 oz or 6 oz burgers and endless plate of fries the best hotdog hands down

$3.50 for this!! What a joke!!!

I've been to the airport cafe and had mediocre experiences but kept trying for the sake of variety. But after this last time, I'll never be back . Wait staff was nice and view is nice but that's about all this place has going for it. The chairs on the patio feel like they will crumble if you sit on them. We ordered 1 burger, 1 pulled pork sandwich, a side of onion rings and a salad. It was not busy and there was only one couple ahead of us who ordered 2 burgers. They got their food, ate it, paid and left before we received our food an hour after arriving. We watched through the window as the cook took his time and talked on his cell phone for 20-30 mins instead of making the orders that were staking up. Once we received our food, it all came out at once. The salad was warm from sitting on the counter next to the grill. The onion rings and pork sandwich were cold and the burger was soggy. We paid $3.50 for the side of onion rings and they delivered us a paper plate with 8 tiny, crappy, frozen, cheap-o onion rings. It was worth maybe $0.25. Any waitress would be mortified to have to deliver that to a table. Absolutely unacceptable.

The pilot burger should be called the Cargo Plane. It is a great meal.

10 stars! Hands down - great customer service and amazing ribeye!…read moreI have been staying in Bakersfield for work and tonight, I ordered the ribeye. I ordered the ribeye, medium rare. It comes with either the option of soup or salad so I chose a salad. It also comes with two sides, and I chose the rice, pilaf and steamed vegetables. Madison took my order over the phone. She is very friendly, helpful, patient and told me the order would be ready in 20 minutes. I arrived at exactly 20 minutes and my order was ready. She brought the food out and quickly took my payment. Easy peasy transaction. The ribeye was perfectly grilled at medium rare. It is so tender, juicy and flavorful! Major kudos to the chef! The rice pilaf is to die for as well as the steamed vegetables. They went so well with the perfectly grilled ribeye. I definitely recommend, I will return and absolutely love my dinner!

There was a little bit of a wait time to get seated, but it was busy when we arrived. I didn't expect there to be such a large amount of people on a Tuesday, but this place is popular! My wife and I both loved the spinach artichoke dip. If I had to give it feedback, I'd say I would have liked it to have been a little thicker. The chips that came with it were to die for! The steaks were cooked to perfection! Wife had a med-well filet, which she said was very tender, and I had the rare ribeye with chimichurri. It was only a dollar more for the chimichurri, but unfortunately that chimichurri is what cost this review a star. It was blended into some kind of green sauce/goop. I'm not from Argentina, but even I felt like I needed to apologize to Argentina after seeing it haha. Oh, I forgot to mention the tableside salad is fun! They bring out a salad tray and prepare your salad tableside. I highly recommend it! All in all, I will come back! I wouldn't order the chimichurri next time, but would get the ribeye again and spinach artichoke dip again.

We started with the Korean Beef "Frachos" which were easily the highlight of our entire meal. The spiraled fries were crispy, covered in a delicious sauce, tasty toppings, and the beef was tender and well-seasoned. If you are coming here I would definitely recommend getting these! Unfortunately our excitement, for what we thought would be a great meal, died there. First off, they must be using unfiltered tap water to serve because it was disgusting! I get it, water is free and I've never been one to complain about water, but we were so disgusted by it that we were shocked it was even being served. We ordered two burgers. One was a bbq bacon burger which was not bad, nothing I would go out of my way for, but I wouldn't have complained otherwise. The second burger was the bacon jam burger which was drowning in what seemed more like runny pancake syrup than a bacon jam. It leaked from the burger all over my plate and made the burger inedible. For my side I got the charred green beans, and I guess I should have taken the name at face value because they really meant it. They were completely burnt black throughout which turned to bitter powder as I took my first bite. Easily more char than green bean. The service was fine. Our server was nice, but I think they could sense my displeasure with our meal because we counted 11 table stops to make sure we were okay in the less than 1 hour that we were there.
