    Steak & Skewers

What a great place to dine with friends and colleagues. The restaurant is normally packed and the food is great! Not fine dining great, but down home cooking great. Although I've been here many times before, tonight's occasion was coming here with business colleagues. The pictured Steak & Skewers was absolutely delicious and very filling. Everyone was happy with their meals and the servers did a great job serving our party of 12.

Pacifico on tap!!!!! Dinner salad, fried fish, with sautéed mushrooms ror$18 on the senior menu.

After 11 hours straight on the road, I was looking for a blue-collar place to get a balanced meal. Ale's steakhouse was the one I chose. No previous experience with this place, but lots of experience with Ridgecrest-NWC China Lake. I have been coming here since 1979. Yeah, damn long time. Back in those days, we would all go out to Inyokern for a great meal at Indian Wells Lodge. It was a little bit of a drive out of town, but well worth it. This time I knew I would be too tired to do that, but next time, for sure. So, what has changed in Ridgecest over the past 44 years? Not much, except more escapees from the LA Metro area. Same dusty, wind blown, hot as hell location in the high desert. Same salt of the earth residents and former military families just trying to survive. That is the attraction of this area. Plenty of No-BS people, unlike the cesspool of LA and Orange Counties. Refreshing to spend time around these unpretentious folks. You can see the meal in the pics. Jealous? You should be. I topped it off with a Margarita for dessert. Angelberto was my server, and he was welcomed by many other regulars tonight. Eat your hearts out, people. I studied all the meals that went past me to other tables. Lots of happy people and good-looking meals

Went on a Saturday afternoon. Service was somewhat slow. Seemed like they had more customers then they are used to or just short staffed as most places are. There were about four tables eating, and when we entered we were in a queue of three. When we sat down, we noticed four un-bussed tables. Didn't take long to get our food once ordered. Food was delicious. I had steak tips and potato salad, and my partner had the molcajete trio. His was steaming hot as it arrived to the table! I might go back, food was worth it, decor-not so much-there were greasy fingerprints on the window. Price was a bit high for the ambiance and service, and the good food almost made up for the high cost. About $75 for two-no alcohol.

Ribeye steak, mushrooms, loaded baked potato, all good.

Jam-packed on a Monday night. That's a good sign. Friendly server named Hector behind the bar. Nice atmosphere. Ribeye steak was so tender and tasty. Not too much fat in it, I ate it up all the way through. Got the mushrooms with it and a loaded baked potato. Both great!

One of the best rib eye I've had in a while. Top 3 for sure and I love my steaks. I met the owner, who was working the bar while her bartender was out for vacation, seeing her hustle, and manage at the same time, has earned my respect not that she needed. I heard the spot been around 10 years, she's doing something right. It's a super chill steak house, not one of those bougie style ones where you gotta dress nice or anything like that so don't expect that type of restaurant. I will come back again if I'm ever in town!

    Is there any vegan-friendly faire?

Not really. Jalapeño bottle caps? Onion rings, fries, potatoes? You could probably order a vegan salad, but the menu salads are not vegan. You'd be safe with a margarita!

If you avoid fried food you need to know that Ale's hand breads their Seafood. This means you can order yours GRILLED! My favorites are grilled catfish and scallops with lemon pepper. Their coleslaw is delicious so I get double and skip the fries. We frequently go to the Central Coast and even there Ale's Seafood in Ridgecrest is often better! We ate here and at Ale's steakhouse across town and they are very similar to me in terms of value,…read morethough they do differ. First, the good. It's nice that there is a restaurant in town with fresh fish. Our server was awesome. We were going to a tiki themed place (which you should 100% try to find if you are in town) afterwards and the server shared some cool info about it when we mentioned it. I ordered fish and chips, against my better judgement, and it was just OK. I'm a fan of beer batter that builds up more than a thin crust on the fish, and this wasn't that. On top of that, the cod was a little over cooked (a bit of a theme for the other Ale's as well). That said, the flavor profile was good and their tartar sauce was on point. I had the option for seasoned fries or steak fries and opted for the steak fries to save some sodium intake. I'd probably shorten my life slightly and get the seasoned fries next time. My wife had a salad that was very similar to the other Ale's -- lots of iceberg lettuce and overcooked chicken. We also had the clam chowder, which had a good consistency but was just a touch fishy. I still enjoyed it, though. They have a pretty good selection of beer and other drinks, as well. The decor is informal and overall I liked the place. Between the two Ale's I'd probably give a slight nod to the original, but they are very similar restaurants other than the focus on seafood here.

I searched along our…read moreroute and Tokyo House Japanese Restaurant popped up on both Google and Yelp with decent reviews, so my husband and I decided to give it a try. We ordered a few sushi rolls, a rice plate with beef and vegetables, and chicken potstickers. I'll start with the positives: the woman who took our order over the phone was very kind and professional, and our food was ready right on time when we arrived. The restaurant itself was also very clean, which we appreciated. We took everything to go since we were continuing our road trip. Unfortunately, once we started eating, we were really disappointed. While the pricing was reasonable, the food quality just didn't match the reviews. The beef had almost no flavor, the rice was bland, and the overall dish felt very under-seasoned. The sushi was simply okay not terrible, but not something I'd go out of my way for. The biggest letdown, though, was the chicken potstickers. They were burned on the outside and when we opened them up, there was barely any filling inside. They tasted dry and overcooked, which was really disappointing. It wasn't a horrible experience overall, but definitely not memorable in a good way. Would I come back? No. Would I recommend it? Probably not. The service and cleanliness were solid, but when it comes to Japanese food, flavor and execution matter most and unfortunately, this just didn't deliver for us.

I had the Country Benedict, which is a sausage patty and an egg on top of a biscuit and covered with gravy, served with hash browns. The egg was over easy, and the yolk, when broken, blended deliciously with the gravy. The hash browns were crisp and fresh - very good. The biscuit was buttered, which was a pleasant surprise. They pay attention to small details like that here. Mr. P enjoyed his burger, which came with fresh onions, tomato and lettuce on a specialty bun. The burger was smashed, yet very juicy. His fries were golden brown crisp and cut thick. He liked them a lot. This was easily the best diner breakfast I've had in a long while. Looking forward to stopping in again when I'm nearby in the future. I am full and happy.
