Dr. Gburek saved my life. I was referred to him after an ER visit that not only took my dignity,…read morebut my reputation. Over the course of the last 3 years I can confidently tell you what an amazing man and hidden gem he is. A crisis in our country is the state of the healthcare industry and the toll it takes on providers. Providers can become so overworked or burnt out that they forget to see their patient as a person or have so little time that spending any extra time advocating can seem daunting. Dr. Gburek found me at the lowest point in my life. By simply listening to me, treating me like a human being, and advocating for me; he made all the difference in the world. He carefully made care plans based on my life goals like having children and factors such as my age to refer me to specialists. I had a unique case where I became medically handicapped in terms of medication. Steroids and NSAIDs cause me to develop stomach issues I had never even heard of. Stomach issues that caused me to be unable to eat regularly for nearly an entire year. I was wasting away to nothing while I waited for Cigna or any doctor to help me. I had lost 20 pounds unintentionally in 365 days. He tried to send me to specialists that could find an answer for my symptoms, but to my dismay, those specialists had no answer for me or even any ideas of how to help me. If you've ever been in that position you know how lonely and desolate it can be. It was traumatic To even be brought to that point I spent years of my life arguing with Cigna that my life mattered but, naturally, they only want to hear what the doctor thinks. Even if that doctor has not throughly completed an assessment, offered any treatments aside from medication, or been inappropriate with your care. Dr. Gburek is not one of those providers. He takes your health and goals seriously and will advocate to give you your life back. He is the only provider who advocated for me with Cigna over the last 3 years. My health struggles robbed me of my identity and I believed there was no hope. Dr. Gburek did not leave me with no hope and he did not leave me without solution. Instead, he fought for me and saved my life. By giving me a life with manageable pain, I am able to pick back up the pieces of who I used to be and who I want to become while continuing to help others as he helped me. I want providers like Dr. Gburek to know how important their care is so they don't lose sight of why they do this and continue to help people. I want patients to see this and know that there is hope for your case. He deserves all the praise and I am incredibly thankful for my healthcare hero. Experiencing a chronic health struggle can be dark but hopefully you can find someone like Dr. Gburek to turn on the light.

The injections were quick and smooth (not going to say painless because that would be lying) but if you can't have it a little pain, they have the option for a local and aesthetic. If you are dealing with back or hip pain or pain in general your body, I would highly recommend scheduling a visit through your doctor.

Without going into much detail, from the very beginning of the conversation, you could tell he lacked experience and confidence in his ability to diagnose and/or treat "complex" situations. He started asking me questions like "so what do you think the problem is?". Well, I'm not the doctor, he is. I said just that. He proceeded to say "yeah no I get that but like what did your other doctors think the problem was?" This told me all I needed to know. We discussed a few things, but nothing to do with what was actually going on with me present day. He was more interested in discussing the past and had no insight on what the next steps would or should be. When I asked him what the plan would be, his reply was that he didn't know. This then prompted me to ask him how long he's been working at this practice. I guess this upset him as he stood up, took his laptop and said we were going in circles and he walked out like the true "professional" he is. I wasn't going to just accept that this grown man "physician" could throw a temper tantrum after I took off work, waited two weeks for this appointment, and paid an $80 co-pay so I made the nurse go back and get him. Both nurses that came in with him (one the first time, another the second time) apologized sincerely after he was out of ear shot because they heard how ridiculous he sounded. Celia (one of the nurses) had let me know he was out last week for training, but it's clear it didn't help.

After going back and forth with his primary and not getting anywhere we sought out the assistance of Dr. Rafii. Dr. Rafii cared, listened and tried to get things figured out with my husband. After a few visits with Dr. Rafii and no real sense of relief for my husband Dr. Rafii did something he said he's never done and ordered a brain MRI...where they found 13 tumors on my husband brain. With the evidence in hand as horrible as it was we had an answer. We later found out that my husband had small cell lung cancer that had metastasized to his brain and he passed just a year later. If it wasn't for Dr. Rafii I don't think we would have even had that year. I am forever grateful for Dr. Rafii and his team for their compassion and care. May God be with you all.

I'm starting an intensive physical therapy program and hoping I won't need maintenance for too much longer. That being said, I am grateful for the time I had with Dr. Rafii. Dealing with a chronic pain condition can be stressful for the Dr. and patient both. But navigating those waters of trial and error didn't seem bad at all with him. It felt more like a team collaboration. Even when times were easy to give up and refer me out...he didn't. It was actually that exact act of kindness that made me want to explore outside of the box of just traditional pain meds. I felt like I had a cheerleader as cheesy as that sounds. It's really hard to find a good Dr. these days and especially one that makes you WANT to get better. Kuddos to you, Dr. Rafii. Thank you for your help. I would definitely refer you to anyone in need.

The only good thing about this place are the nurses; all of them, without exception, are kind and caring folks with good bedside manner. More than I can say about the doctor himself. Dr Kaplan has to be one of the worst doctors I've ever seen as far as bedside manner. He never sat with us more than maybe 5 minutes, enough time to make notes and leave. He gave the bare minimum of attention to my client when she was talking at any point, and interrupted her constantly to cut the conversation shorter. The one and only time he acknowledged ME was before a procedure, where he asked me to tell my client (who was in another room) not to call the office with any concerns for at least 24 hours unless it was an emergency. On our last visit with him, he straight-up told my client (who by this point was in so much pain she could barely leave her apartment and was feeling the emotional distress from that) that she was too emotional for him to deal with. That other people had it way worse than her and THEY didn't cry. Lastly, he told her that even after the two tests she had been through, he would not perform the final procedure on her until she proved to him that she was on an antidepressant (???????????????????) Now the office is giving us the run-around, pushing our next appointment back a week, then another week, then saying we would have to go to a surgical center because they just don't have the tools they need. I've flat-out encouraged my client to quit giving this practice any more of her money; waiting to see a doctor who will treat her with some dignity will be 1000x better than ever seeing this doctor again. TDLR: This doctor's bedside manner is awful, DO NOT RECOMMEND

During my appointment, Dr. Arias volunteered that she did not become a doctor because she needed the money, explaining that her family was wealthy. I found this highly inappropriate and irrelevant to my medical care. The office schedules patients only 15 minutes apart, yet my experience was that appointments took much longer. My appointment was at 9:30 a.m., but I was not seen until nearly 10:45. When I raised my concern about the delay, Dr. Arias became defensive and said she would spend as much time with me as necessary. That missed the point entirely. I expect a physician to provide thorough care, but I also expect the practice to schedule realistically and respect every patient's time. I was also required to undergo a test that I did not believe was necessary. After the results were available, Dr. Arias insisted that I return for another office visit rather than communicating the information another way. This left me feeling that generating another billable appointment was more important than avoiding an unnecessary expense and inconvenience for me. Finally, when I mentioned the healthcare company where I work, she criticized the company directly to me. That was unprofessional and had nothing to do with the care I was seeking. In my 65 years, I have never encountered a physician whose manner felt so unprofessional and dismissive. Based on my experience, this practice seemed more focused on billing and volume than on respecting patients' time, money, and concerns. I cannot recommend Dr. Arias or the Pain Specialists of America.
