If you can avoid, Dr. Jake Huntzinger, do so at all costs. He is extremely inexperienced and arrogant to boot. Without going into much detail, from the very beginning of the conversation, you could tell he lacked experience and confidence in his ability to diagnose and/or treat "complex" situations. He started asking me questions like "so what do you think the problem is?". Well, I'm not the doctor, he is. I said just that. He proceeded to say "yeah no I get that but like what did your other doctors think the problem was?" This told me all I needed to know. We discussed a few things, but nothing to do with what was actually going on with me present day. He was more interested in discussing the past and had no insight on what the next steps would or should be. When I asked him what the plan would be, his reply was that he didn't know. This then prompted me to ask him how long he's been working at this practice. I guess this upset him as he stood up, took his laptop and said we were going in circles and he walked out like the true "professional" he is. I wasn't going to just accept that this grown man "physician" could throw a temper tantrum after I took off work, waited two weeks for this appointment, and paid an $80 co-pay so I made the nurse go back and get him. Both nurses that came in with him (one the first time, another the second time) apologized sincerely after he was out of ear shot because they heard how ridiculous he sounded. My morphine pain pump, of approximately 6 years, failed in late April, 2024. I'd been diagnosed with spinal stenosis about 20 years earlier & had a laminectomy, prescribed opiates, a spinal cord stimulator, etc during this time. I'd been having the pump filled in Georgetown, TX under the "direction" & "care" of Dr. Alan Dennis. He began the process with refilling the pump with morphine, which I didn't understand why he did that after just emptying it then proceeded, over the next 11 months, of withdrawing the new morphine from my pump! I was so exasperated after NO relief over a year, I decided to go to another Dr. On what was going to be my last appointment with him, it occurred to me to ask him the question, "Is there any type of test, procedure, etc. like a MRI, x-ray or CT scan that would show if the leads, for med delivery from the pump to my spine, were viable, working, or had they been disconnected or displaced somehow? I was so surprised when he said there was a "pump dye test" for that. I was incredulous!! Why had he not suggested that & done that test early on instead of ME, the patient, finally thinking about it 11+ months later. NOTHING he did, which consisted of prescribing several opiates that had NO effect whatsoever. So, I had the dye test done which he said showed no abnormalities so I told him I no longer had any confidence in his ability to help & would be finding another doctor. I have to ask WHY did it take nearly 12 months to withdraw such a small amount of morphine (or whatever) from that pump. I have my suspicions but won't go into specifics. I was just too angry at the time to be anything close to objective. I can be more objective now. I had a terrible experience at this pain clinic. It was not simply terrible, it was atrocious for me. My doctors were Jake Huntzinger and Andre Chen. I did mess up. I overused a substance that my advanced education and academic articles told me was very safe. It was not a controlled substance of any kind, but I take full responsibility for overusing it. Instead of compassion for my pain at this pain clinic, I received a smiling, immediate redirection from Dr. Jake Huntzinger to a Dr. Andre Chen on the fifth floor, with no explanation of who Dr. Chen was. When my husband and I saw a large sign that read ADDICTIONOLOGY, we were shocked. But, wishing to be compliant, I went on in. We were required to pay an additional $50 copay to a really nice receptionist who had stickers about Christianity and Jesus all over the back of her computer monitor - the part patients can see. (Is that allowed?) Anyway, we went on in to see Dr. Andre Chen. Wow! What a mistake. He reduced me to sobbing tears within moments. As a woman, I hate that. I am a professional. I try so hard not to cry in meetings. But, this man... This man was so demeaning, so condescending, and so... just angry at me? I hardly got a word in edgewise. Then, he switched me to a schedule III opioid medication in the form of a transdermal patch. Wow. As he was walking out the door, and as I was in midsentence, he practically hissed, "Do you know why I put you on a patch?" I answered, "So it will bypass my gastrointestinal tract so I won't throw up from the pain as much?" He answered, in the same hissing tone, "NO! So you can't overuse it!" My personal feeling is this: avoid this man. I do not know what has happened to him or what is going on with him, but... He. Was. Cruel. To. Me. Run. Now, let's address his "care summary." He wrote things that were "consistently" disproven by the conclusive urinalysis performed later. Dr. Andre Chen did not change my "care summary" even though I asked him to do so. I've been in contact with the manager of this Advanced Pain Care location (Round Rock), Crystal. She was not helpful. I've been in contact with the manager of all area Advanced Pain Care locations, Jody Green. She also was not helpful, though I emailed her the incorrect information in my "care summary" as she requested. She did not even respond to my emails. I've been in contact with the Chief Compliance Officer, Michael Jensen. He was polite but, well, too familiar with me, calling me by my first name, though I called him Mr. Jensen, initially. He has a law degree, but I cannot find where he is actively bar certified. EDIT: Ah! I've been with Advanced Pain Care for 5 years, in that time I've never had a bad experience with any of the doctors or PA's. I follow my care plan and I'm treated with respect and kindness. The front office staff on Williams is great as is my PA, I see Dr Jordan at the Round Rock location for rheumatology and she seems to genuinely care about my treatment and getting results. I'm not sure why there are so many bad reviews, but I've found if I follow my care plan there are no issues with my treatment and they do all they can to communicate and help. Been coming to the RR location for 6yrs or so, and have very seldom seen a PA ( Anthony or Stephanie ) at the "scheduled" time. Today ( 08/20/2025 ) was even worse when a lady said she had a 9:15 and its now 10am, and she said she had to reschedule 2 other appts elsewhere because of her wait here.....this is just bad business practice and customer/patient service, and praying Malone and others will quit over booking and/or hire more people. The folks here, inclding the PA's, are really sweet/kind and apologetic, but this doesn't fix the problem. Sorry to post, but just frustrated as heck about this right now.. Maybe it's different at their other locations but just truly upset about it all. Please don't make the mistake to come here. I saw a different practitioner everytime I was there. I was scheduled for injections, while in tremendous pain, forlonging my misery, when surgery was what I needed. To make matters worse, the last Practioner took pain meds down making pain uncontrollable. I ended up in hospital 3 days after their injections for pain management, which is when I found out I needed surgery. Saint Davis knew by the same MRI 's what I needed and had me pain free and my surgery handled with 6 days. read more

From checkin unfriendliness/unhelpfulness, forgetting paperwork I needed for annual FMLA certification, not getting to establish care with a new Dr (oops he isn't transferring here until later so we must have just canceled him) and not having my SCS rep there to reprogram my device. To be fair Rep was there at checkin, I was early by the way but my appointment was over a half hour late so they were occupied in surgery by the time I was seen (you can wait 45 minutes if you still want to see them). CRP I first visited Advanced Pain Care before moving to Austin from another state. I have suffered from Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS), in particular Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD) for 20 years. CRPS/RSD is also known as The Suicide Disease and is rated by The McGill Pain Index as the most painful condition, more than amputation of a finger/toe or childbirth with no training. Finding a good pain doctor was at the top of my list in choosing a new home. I was scheduled for surgery to have an intrathecal pain pump and removal of a spinal cord stimulator which was no longer effective. I was told that some pain specialists would be unwilling to take on a patient who'd had a pain pump implanted in another facility/state. I made an appointment with APC before my surgery. I wanted to make sure I had a pain specialist in Austin before making the move. I met with a doctor who was very attentive, knowledgeable, and well certified in pain management. We discussed my history in detail including the original injury and treatment from day 1 to the present as well as back surgery I had in 2002. I told him about my planned pain pump surgery. He assured me that he and the practice would be willing to accept me as a patient and also told me about some alternative treatments that they offer. I was very impressed and felt relieved regarding pain care in moving to Austin. I made an appointment with APC as soon as we got here. They see me on a regular basis to check and refill my pain pump. They added a medication when I told them that the pump was not as effective as I had hoped. The 2 meds together are much better than just 1 had been. They also prescribed a medicated lotion for my feet which became affected by RSD - the condition often spreads to opposite limbs from original injury. My experience with APC has been very different from what others have written about. I don't know if it has to do with which location they went to. I've been to the 360 office but most of my visits have been to the Round Rock office. I hope you never have need of a pain management specialist. I especially hope you never need treatment for CRPS/RSD. Medical treatment is a very personal choice and experience. Doctors who are suitable or not for one patient may be the opposite for another. I had some very poor experiences when I was seeking help for a bad back. Many doctors over many years had many diagnoses for my trouble but all had the same solution - take muscle relaxers and pain pills. I was an athlete and a vegetarian who was very particular about what I put in my body and I didn't want to take any meds that weren't absolutely necessary. I ended up suffering for years before I found a medical professional who actually treated MY condition. I avoided surgery for a long time. Back surgery is really dicey. I was lucky. Mine was successful, but 16 months later I was injured and developed RSD. I have no qualms with recommending APC and/or my particular doctors. As I said, I hope you never need pain care. But if you do, I hope you find a good, caring, knowledgeable and capable professional who can help ease your suffering. Don't give up looking for the right one. read more

There are so many patients completely failed by Dr. Wisler and the Cedar Right before I had a radical hysterectomy, he took me off pain medicine which made it impossible to work and to function. He switched me to Buprenorphine which doesn't help and isn't carried at most pharmacies. I had to drive around and piecemeal that prescription. Because of this, I was sent home from two jobs (I was cold sweating, doubled over in 8 or 9 out of 10 pain) and had to cancel the rest. I lost $5k and some of my reputation because I couldn't get through a work day. I am self-employed. The interaction with Dr. Wisler was the worst medical experience of my life-and as someone who has had lifelong genetic conditions, that's saying a lot. What makes it worse is that I really liked him as a doctor and felt like he really cared. I don't understand why he switched like that. I have Ehlers Danlos, Severe Endometriosis, Small Fiber Neuropathy, severe disc degeneration in my cervical and lumbar spine. At our last appointment he said, "I THINK YOUR MAIN PROBLEM IS ANXIETY." I used to be a patient of Dr. Andre Chen here at Advanced Pain Care. Things were going well in my treatment until Dr. Chen walked into one of our appointments angry and belligerent that I had tested negative for my pain meds. He wouldn't indicate when I tested negative... every time, one times, last two times? Who knows. Dr: Chen isn't a big enough grown up to communicate that. He knew I had run out the previous month so that shouldn't have been a surprise. I told him that I had taken the pill in the morning and those we need to be figuring out why I'm negative for it if I was *currently* negative and that if I was negative the previous month, he needed to regain his composure and behave like an adult because I'd already told him I'd run out. I'd admitted to losing an unknown number of pills in a deer stand in December. You don't get to yell. If I was testing negative, maybe there was something going on in my body, metabolism specifically, leading to a false negative. This might need investigation from a doctor. The final straw for me was when he, still winging and crying and carrying on, asked if I had my meds with me. I told him I did not. He lost his mind. I stopped his little tirade and asked if it was ever communicated in the course of my treatment as an expectation to me or my caretakers that I bring my meds to my appointments. He simply didn't answer and continued to be degrading and changed the subject. I stopped him. I demanded an answer. "Is it expected of me to being my meds to every appointment, DOCTOR?" He still didn't answer. I stopped him and told him it was a very simple "yes/no" question and that if he couldn't answer, A) he didn't get to yell about it right now b) he wasn't allowed to ever bring the matter up again, as he and his staff had asked about it at every visit ( I had always said no because I assume it's a bad idea to carry a bottle of dangerous narcotics as a man with a brain injury who loses things and needs help with meds). He shrugged and squirmed and said "you say you need the medicine" That's not an answer. I ended the relationship. This doctor has a lot of canned monologue responses to questions and events in your treatment and doesn't actually listen to you nor learn your case nor actually engage in meaningful dialog with his patients. read more

I went to this place APC Advanced Pain Care for about 3-4 years every month that's somewhere around 40 visits. I have serious chronic pain throughout my entire body from DDD Degenerative Disc Disease causing achy pain and stiffness everywhere daily that feels like severe arthritis. Prior to seeing them I had a fusion and extended fusion in my neck and had a lower back surgery it didn't relieve the pain, so I started seeing them to get pain relief. I have tried other medications and shots injections cauterizing nerves and even THC Gummies from different doctors for pain relief and the only one the remotely helped was the Hydrocodone which I got from Advanced Pain Care which took away about 75% of my pain. The problem I have with this place is they dot really care about the patients they only care about packing in as many appointments as they can in a day and making as much money as they can while covering their butt. For example every time I went their you check in go through your pee test wait to go back to the room then sit in the room for 45 minutes while they pack in as many appointments as they can before they get to you, even when I called before to see if I get get in and out quickly they said probably but appointments always took an hour. Their therapy is also terrible I tried to get phone therapy and after speaking to their therapist for and hour she said she didn't think she could help me I was blown away. This is not all I requested my records from them and they have marked up my records with unneeded bad comments on them making so I can not get pain management anywhere now I have tried for the past 3 months getting repeatedly denied by 8 different pain management doctors. I am essentially dead in the water with no chance at getting pain management at all so I have been sitting here for months now not getting work done while my life crumbles, they have the power to destroy your life if your in chronic pain and they do not give a damn, this place is evil read more

There is a reason for their overall rating not just with me but average rating by patients. Twice APC fumbled the ball on my care. After reverse replacement surgery where they were supposed to provide after surgery pain management, their efforts were a bottle of oxycodone, one call two days after surgery, and then they "ghosted" me when I called them on Friday following surgery. The second time was recently. I take an opioid which was not even on the narcotic list until two years ago, but because it was reclassified because of the opioid crisis, I had to go to pain management. It is my only pain reliever. I ran out and was reasonably sure I should have another refill. Contacted the pharmacy on Thursday, they heard nothing by Saturday. I was completely out having difficulty sleeping because of feet neuropathy. When I called on Monday to find out what happened to the request, I was told I was refused. I am a "low maintenance" patient. I show up on time, don't call for refills, etc. so such neglect is both unprofessional and inexcusable. If you need pain management, find someone else. I wanted to do this review because I wanted to let people know that prior to going to this pain management facility I was miserable in constant spine pain and I was seen by Dr. Paterno and I explained my pain and he scheduled me for injections on my spine to relieve my pain. My pain went away immediately. Then I fell and hurt my tailbone and I couldn't sit because it was extremely painful and again he put injections on my tailbone and it's been 2 years and my pain went away. I now had extreme pain in my arms and hands, I couldn't lift my arms, and again I went for injections in my spine. My pain is completely gone. I definitely will go back if I have any more pain. I highly recommend this for anyone suffering from pain. The staff is friendly and they get you in and out asap. The nurses and anesthesiologist are all friendly. I can honestly say I have never worked with a more inept organization. Let me preface this review by saying that i gave them several opportunities to address the issues and i also reached out to Dr. Malone, the owner, several times and did not receive a call back. I was pretty fair and patient before deciding to post this. First visit I was told a drug test ($500) was mandatory, as was a psych consult.. for all patients. My husband was only told the drug test was mandatory.. maybe only females need psych eval? Yikes. I was told BOTH were their policy. Well, neither of those is MY policy and i'm the one paying. They NEVER brought ip a psych evaluation to my husband, who is also a patient. The real issue here is lack of follow up, lack of communication and salty employees that answer the phone and dish out more attitude than a 13 year old girl. They never ever return calls They never once have responded to portal messages, they make phantom appointments for me, that I never agreed to or needed and the worst part is the prior auth department. I have been waiting months for a chest ct, but prior auth dept doesnt follow up with insurance or with me.. i have had a pretty severe breathing issue and apparently it's not serious enough to warrant the prior auth dept actually taking care of this. When I do get a hold of someone, after calling over and over, they have no idea what is going on and are completely confused. The medical care itself has been fine, but the support staff is so ridiculously bad that it doesn't matter how good the dr and nurse are. A $500 drug test? This is after i made it clear i would not be asking for ANY drugs, so a drug test is unecessary. But since they charge insurance $500... they do it anyway. Follow the money! My favorite call was the time i was told i couldn't get prior auth for my knee mri because medicaid wouldn't approve it. I don't HAVE medicaid. I have private insurance that i pay ALOT for. The employee proceeded to argue with me and tell me i DO have medicaid, as if i wouldn't know what kind of insurance I have. I pay close to $1000 a month for insurance. That's not medicaid. But she STILL proceeded to argue. Someone had even notated on my account thag i have medicaid!! How does one get so confused? We have a really bad combo here: No communication. Confusion. Violating patient rights. Rude staff. Inept staff ( except Dr And nurse I see). When given the opportunity to address the myriad of problems, they declined and ignored. Had they even made a slight attempt to address the issues that EVERYONE seems to have, i wouldn't have left this review, because i can always put myself in someone else's shoes.. unless those shoes belong to someone who refuses to take responsibility for their actions, as is the case here. This office is a lawsuit waiting to happen. Dr. Pegrim and Nurse Menefee are really excellent. It's a shame their talent is wasted in an office that is falling apart. I was referred to this clinic from my physiatrist to receive a nerve block. The nurses, doctor, and surgery center were good to me. However, I hit a huge roadblock a few weeks after my injection when I checked the online patient portal. If you haven't looked at yours I advise you to take a look at it. So as I referred patient I complied with the mandatory drug testing as required because I have absolutely nothing to hide. But here is the kicker, I checked the online portal only to find out there was a diagnosis code of "Long term (current) opiate use." There would not be an issue if that were true but it is ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE! I CANNOT AND NEVER HAVE BEEN ABLE TO TAKE OPIATES I WILL VIOLENTLY VOMIT ON EVERY SINGLE ONE. THE ONLY TIME I GET THEM IS AFTER SURGERIES OR IN THE ER WHERE THE NAUSEA CAN BE IMMEDIATELY CONTROLLED! So I spoke with my nurse and the doc and they stated they could not see this on my chart. They also stated they could not see what was on the portal and that I needed to speak to someone at the front desk who could assist me in fixing the issue. I started that process at the beginning of Sept 2019. Of course, I can only communicate through text with them so that makes things even more difficult. Fast forward to today almost a month after, they have since acknowledged it should not be on my chart and that they were trying to fix it. No one follows up with me ever and not only has it not been fixed but diagnosis codes have been added. So it is all looking extremely shady now! I spoke with my insurance company who said YES they did, in fact, use those diagnosis codes to obtain payment on their claims. So not only did they lie to me about not being able to see the diagnosis codes but if everything pans out correctly they have defrauded my insurance company and messed with my access to care. As you all know the opioid crisis has raised many issues for patients. So anyone who takes them is automatically red-flagged by other doctors. This means other doctors could refuse meds to you based on a fake diagnosis. I can't believe all this has happened all because of a referral. This office way understaffed and the way things are handled is beyond unprofessional. Check your claims, check your chart and portal, and contact your insurance company if you notice discrepancies. read more

Today was my first day at a pain clinic ever. I have Multiple Sclerosis. I have a neurogenic bladder and trigeminal neuralgia. I have tried ALL of the available nerve and bladder medications. My bladder and face pain is so severe I barely sleep, I am a single mom of two who is having her kids grown up watching me in so much pain and unable to find anything to help. I feel awful. I have had enough, my doctors have nothing else in their arsenals so I was told to go see a pain clinic. Never in my wildest nightmares could I have guessed it would've been this horrible of an experience. Was charged for a urinalysis right up front. Even before it was ordered. Gave a very brief verbal summary of my history and issues. Was told I can do an injection that had a very low chance of working and would need to be repeated often. Explained I was allergic to steroids. He said he could still do it with just the numbing part. I said what can I do for my trigeminal neuralgia and he said he can't do anything. Starting pain medication is a one way street. (Well Dr. Wisler so is my Multiple Sclerosis and pain.) He said he wasn't willing to prescribe medications, just to deal with the pain in my bladder and that will somehow make the trigeminal neuralgia be minimized too. I disagreed and he basically said too bad. I was under the impression that their motto Is, "the pain stops here." He just got done telling me to ignore my face pain and suck it up. Fast forward to me at the check out and they tell me the injection will be $1000 out of pocket. I make less than that in disability a month. I said I can't afford that, especially because the chances of it working are very little and then every few months having to pay that again? I could never in a million years afford that. I said what can we do now? They said go back to your primary and start there again. I'm sorry, what?! I came from the other doctors because I am out of options. I said because I am too poor for the injection I can't get any other help with medication management? They said the doctor is unwilling to help me now and definitely won't be prescribing me any medications for the pain. It made me feel like a drug user. I have never been prescribed opiates. What?! I am so confused. I left there in tears and wondering what I had done to be treated the way I was treated. I asked if I could see another doctor for a second opinion and was denied that. Honestly, I am the nicest person who is in SO much pain from a REAL disease and there's NOTHING else you can do? I felt like a criminal leaving. The whole visit made me feel dirty and very poor. I asked for a refund since I paid for the urinalysis up front and they said I didn't. After fighting they finally gave me my money back. The male medical assistant was the only one in that whole office who was kind. I thank him very much for being kind. Dr. Wisler is a cruel, classist, judge mental meanie. I feel so gross now. I hope this can prevent anyone else from feeling how I feel right now, very hopeless and dirty. read more

I went to Advanced Pain Care for the first time, and after an hour and a half of waiting, I left without seeing a doctor. I waited and waited, and after an hour in the waiting room, the receptionist apologized and said they would be with me soon. A nurse came out and asked for a urine sample, which I understand as it was more than obvious that they have several patients that are obviously addicts (honestly, it was scary to watch). Then, the nurse put me in a room and said the doctor would be right with me. Thirty minutes later, and still no doctor, I had to leave to pick my daughter up from her preschool. The service (or lack there of) was very unprofessional, and the overall atmosphere and environment seemed as if it was a haven for opioid addicts. I only wanted to start seeing a new doctor for my severe arthritis, and instead paid a copay for a doctor that I never got to see. Stay clear of this place. read more

Ive read a lot of these reviews and honestly can say it has not been my experience. I see Dr. Ajiaz at Round Rock and have found him to be very caring and open to new ideas. He suggested spinal injections for my lower back and I have to say everything went smoothly. He always gently suggests ideas and is never pushy. The prior authorization dept is always eager to help and answer any questions I have. The office has set up legit payment plans for me and they never bug me about it. I've had zero problems with my medication being refilled-everything on time and as requested. I've always seen MY Dr, never been pushed to a different Dr or PA. Support staff have been cheerful and helpful. I've never waited more than 15 minutes in the waiting area and 5 minutes in the office-and that was at a really busy time. I've seen Dr. Pegram at Georgetown for Rheumatology and had to wait a bit but he was very very personable and took a long time explaining my symptoms and giving me suggestions. He was never short, preachy or told me I had to stop medication. Very intelligent Dr. and has so far done everything he has told me he was going to do-nothing short of excellent. read more

ThIs is literally the worst office. Has consistently just continued to get worse, with rude staff and doctors who seem incredibly capitalistic and happy to prescribe more narcotics or surgery instead of dig any further. A disgrace to the medical profession. Don't waste four hours here waiting around for your appointment; find literally anywhere else. read more
