Wouldn't recommend this service to anyone! Our experience was very similar to Emily's experience…read more I'd say almost to the T with the exception of her assistant, Sally was great and is one of the reason my wife and son are alive today. My wife and I expressed concerns about her pelvis being too narrow but she brushed it off and we believed her. A mistake that nearly ended my new family. She would say that something was fine and then would say that the same thing was concerning. We chalked it up to her being a bit eccentric. On top of that, we only got reimbursed a little over $100 from insurance and we had Anthem PPO at the time. Not necessarily her fault but it added to the negative experience and expenses. My wife's labor ended up being 24hrs at home and 36hrs total which ended in a C-Section. She was little to no help and it was Sally that recommended we go to the hospital. Plug-in for Rancho Springs, amazing hospital and staff. It's not what we wanted but definitely what we needed and more. We didn't want a hospital birth but they have the best ward bar none. Only hospital me and my wife would go to for this. From our conversations with other people that used her in the past, I think she was once a great midwife but from our experience, I would highly discourage anyone from using her services. If you use her, you'll be playing roulette with you and your child's life.

Would not recommend Our son was born early September 2024…read moreand Anne was our midwife for the pregnancy. During our meetings we were constantly recommended to seek outside opinions from my OBGYN and medical facilities, causing us to spend thousands more during my pregnancy and birth on top of her fee for services ($6000). During my birth Anne and her assistants made the environment stressful when I expressed for my birth to be peaceful to my liking. Upon Anne's arrival she said that I was fully dilated at 6am. At 3pm Anne had checked me and told me that she had still felt some of my cervix (I WAS NOT FULLY DILATED). She had complained earlier in the day that her fingers were too short to check properly, so I'm not sure how she has been a midwife and her fingers be too short to check her clients. I was instructed to push while not being fully dilated. Anne appeared impatient and she didn't seem to know what to do to help me progress. After an hour and a half of pushing she recommended transfer to the hospital. Upon arrival at the hospital I was checked and was dilated to AN EIGHT. The hospital determined that my baby was too large to have naturally. During my pregnancy we brought up the size of my baby and Anne would discredit all the ultrasounds and weight estimates that we were given. I had my baby via c-section and was born at 11 pounds 1 ounce, he would never have been born safely naturally. After my hospital stay we returned home to a birth pool fully inflated and still containing the water from my labor, this was after I was told that everything would be cleaned up before our return. A warning to all, a contract is presented and must be signed that states once Anne shows up to your birth/labor there are NO REFUNDS of any sort. Ultimately I would not recommend Anne's services as a midwife. If you are looking for a midwife to trust as your expert and for a safe, comfortable birth, look elsewhere.

I never thought I would ever do a natural birth... but here I am! I will start by saying, natural birth is HARD. I went into my first unmedicated birth not knowing what to expect but I prefer it that way but boy was I determined!!!! Second time around I was nervous, anxious.. all the things! My first experience was great, although after labor I experienced some hemorrhaging. Once staff figured what was wrong they acted fast and I was relieved. It was a little traumatic for me but it didn't taint my experience with Acorn. I came back for round two!!! 2nd time around two years later! I delivered my baby girl on February 20th, my experience from start to end was amazing. During labor the team gives you and your partner space, during those moments were truly special. And probably one of my favorites. I had Cristi Sedona and Kyra for my team! And I would choose the same 3 every-time. Each of them brought a different vibe, but it was a mix that you need on your team! I can't thank them enough for making each experience so special, For me my husband and my family! If I was having more kids, no questions asked... I would do it again.... and again....

Her way of making mothers feel valued and cared for is unprecedented and this comes from someone working in the medical field for 13+ years. I had a redemptive second birth at home, with an amazing team (go Annie and Hannah!!). They made my three year old feel special and involved and even captured heartmelting photos of my toddler helping me during the water birth. Annie is an exceptional midwife -- she knew what to do and when and kept me progressing and comfortable, even though this is the hardest thing a woman will ever do. Thank you Acorn; our experience with you all has been monumental from the very beginning. They spend so much time at prénatals, answering questions and getting to know you and your family. They put my mind at ease when I had concerns or worries; most of mine were unnecessary but that did not matter. We love Acorn, and everyone who works here. Birth is hard, and they make it better.

We got referred to Alyssa and thankfully she was able to be w me w short notice. Now I'm a firm believer that everyone should have a doula! She was very helpful with keeping me on track with my goal of a natural birth. Helping with positions, keeping me focused, and making me feel as comfortable as possible with each phase. I will def hire Alyssa if I have another much earlier. And I would say especially if l ever have a hospital birth it would be soooooo helpful to have someone else there helping you. I was able to keep my birth plan I had hoped for. Such a doula advocate now haha

We LOVE Alyssa!!! She took so much time with us during our consultation and prenatal appointments…read moreanswering all our questions and concerns. She checked in every couple days to see how I was doing while waiting for labor to begin. I went into labor at 2:30 AM and texted her at 2:50 AM to let her know and was at my house by 3:30am. She helped me through the contractions by giving counter pressure on my hips (a serious godsend) and massaging my back. She also made sure I was eating and drinking enough throughout the day. My labor stalled a couple times throughout the day so she suggested things to help get it going again (I.e. Walks, changing positions, pressure points). At 5:50pm we arrived at the birth center and she continued to support me through contractions. My midwife swept my membranes and went for a walk. My water broke during the walk and she helped me back to the birth center where I felt a TON of pressure. She alerted the midwife that I must be getting close. During the time I was pushing she was telling how much of the baby she could see and getting me cold washcloths as well as saying encouraging words to me when I felt I could not continue. My healthy baby girl was born at 7:20 pm weighing in at 8.3 pounds. Alyssa was with me for 16 hours during my labor and birth, and stayed an additional 2 hours after to make sure we were settled before we left to return home. I honestly do not think I would have been able to have my unmedicated birth without her constant attention and support through my labor. Having her attend my birth was invaluable and I will be definitely have her attend my next birth!

From the dad's view - (note: this was our first baby)…read more Hiring Britney was the best decision we made. Let me explain to the dads out there why this turned out to be so awesome and worth every penny. There is a lot about the whole pregnancy thing that are challenging for dad mostly because you feel a little helpless. I had no idea what to really expect and hadn't even seen a birth before. We took some hypno-birthing classes and those were helpful. I also read a ton of books. One I recommend is Expectant Fathers http://a.co/6av4TBN - it is a book just for expecting dads. From the first meeting we liked Britney because she tells it like it is, asks thoughtful questions and is flexible with her approach. This means you get to direct how you want the brith to go down. She comes and meets with you a couple of times before the baby is born. This is great because you get to ask more questions and dive into what to expect the day of. My wife really really didn't want a c-section and Britney was great about helping us understand how we can best avoid the procedure. She also wanted to avoid an epidural...and she did. Now fast forward to the day of the birth, or in our case the two days :) It is darn near traumatizing to watch your significant other go through child labor. We stayed home as long as we could before heading to the hospital. Britney was texting and calling while we waited, ate, slept, walked, drank water, and chilled for hours while the labor proceeded. It was nice having someone I could reach out to with questions while we were at home because I have no fricken clue what exactly to do during labor. The best way to sum it up is this - Britney is the coach and mentor for the brith. This allows us dads to take on the roll of supporter and comforter. I am so thankful that I didn't need to tell my wife that she "needs to push harder!" because Britney was there to do that. I can only imagine how well that would have gone over with me telling her that after hours of pushing. During labor, neither our OB nor our Midwife made it to the delivery room. Without Britney there we would have been going through this entire thing alone, without anyone we knew or had a relationship with. There is no question that our birth was a thousand times better because Britney was our guide. As a dad she also made my experience better because it gave me a unique chance to be involved in a caring way during the labor.

Not only was she there for the first two weeks to answer questions and give me guidance, but she has been there to help get me through all of the breast-feeding questions that have come up in the last four months. Truly the best money I invested and would recommend Tamara to any of my family and friends.

How Tamara changed our life. . . 05.02.2012 4.41PM was the…read morereason We got a chance to meet Tamara. A Day when our first daughter Adriana was born. The moment I saw my baby's face for the first time I forgot everything, including my name. But the very next thought after my brain came back to reality was: "I am so happy that we decided to hire Tamara to be our doula!" Moving to San Diego in March, on the last month of pregnancy was not the easiest thing to do. On top of it the fact of getting closer to my due date which was April 16th,2014 started to stress me out even more. Zero experience with newborns, we never had little kids in our family, big fear of labor process itself and being an immigrant in this country with no family around were adding up to my anxiety level. I knew that I needed someone's help for me to go through all that. After I personally called through a list of 40 doulas in San Diego, I picked 3 for in person interview. Tamara was one of them. She sounded very confident on the phone and I was very comfortable asking her any questions that I had. After meeting her in person we immediately felt connection with her and knew that she is "The One". We loved the fact that she combines experience of being a Doula for over 10 years, medical background and being a Mom of her own 5 children. Tamara did several prenatal visits every time making sure all my questions were answered. She gave me educational materials to read and was happy to discuss them. She showed me exercises to practice as well as other tips to help me better prepare mentally and physically for the childbirth. She responded to my text messages almost instantly and I always felt as if I had an angel behind my shoulders ready to come any second if I needed so. I delivered my baby at 42 weeks and 1 day via scheduled induction. 2 weeks that I was overdue I was so thankful that I had Tamara by my side. My boyfriend has a traveling job and he was not able to be with me every day. Tamara visited me several times to make sure that I am doing fine, there were times our conversations went far beyond topic of labor and I felt that I am just having a tea with my family member. She has such a great sense of humor and great personality! On the induction day Tamara picked me up at my house at 6 pm. Naturally having a fear of hospitals and doctors I cannot imagine me being there by myself. At 9 pm nurses started me on pitocin. Shortly after contractions started, they were getting stronger and stronger. Tamara was there with me for the whole time helping me to go through each one of them. She quickly figured out what kind of touch or way of holding of my body I needed and was able to do it for me without a word. I was just making a different sounds or a some kind of gestures and Tamara knew what exactly I was asking for. It was amazing! I was so irritated by some nurses that were coming in the room asking me how I was doing in the middle of my contraction when the least thing I wanted was to tell them how I was doing. I was in my space and didn't want anybody disturbing my rhythm. With Tamara though it was completely different. I felt as she was my shadow. She was so silent and respectful to my needs but giving me what I needed. My labor went all night and continued through the next day. At 4 pm we already knew that baby was at risk and we had to go with C-section which was another biggest fear of mine but Tamara helped me to conquer it by sharing her own stories of birth and encouraging that everything will be okay with me. After we had a healthy baby-girl born we already saw what a Wonderful Doula Tamara is. My boyfriend was so happy with our birth experience that he was telling to other guy friends that having a Doula is the best investment you can have. And having Tamara as your doula is The best experience you can have before, through and after your child birth!
