From the dad's view - (note: this was our first baby)…read more Hiring Britney was the best decision we made. Let me explain to the dads out there why this turned out to be so awesome and worth every penny. There is a lot about the whole pregnancy thing that are challenging for dad mostly because you feel a little helpless. I had no idea what to really expect and hadn't even seen a birth before. We took some hypno-birthing classes and those were helpful. I also read a ton of books. One I recommend is Expectant Fathers http://a.co/6av4TBN - it is a book just for expecting dads. From the first meeting we liked Britney because she tells it like it is, asks thoughtful questions and is flexible with her approach. This means you get to direct how you want the brith to go down. She comes and meets with you a couple of times before the baby is born. This is great because you get to ask more questions and dive into what to expect the day of. My wife really really didn't want a c-section and Britney was great about helping us understand how we can best avoid the procedure. She also wanted to avoid an epidural...and she did. Now fast forward to the day of the birth, or in our case the two days :) It is darn near traumatizing to watch your significant other go through child labor. We stayed home as long as we could before heading to the hospital. Britney was texting and calling while we waited, ate, slept, walked, drank water, and chilled for hours while the labor proceeded. It was nice having someone I could reach out to with questions while we were at home because I have no fricken clue what exactly to do during labor. The best way to sum it up is this - Britney is the coach and mentor for the brith. This allows us dads to take on the roll of supporter and comforter. I am so thankful that I didn't need to tell my wife that she "needs to push harder!" because Britney was there to do that. I can only imagine how well that would have gone over with me telling her that after hours of pushing. During labor, neither our OB nor our Midwife made it to the delivery room. Without Britney there we would have been going through this entire thing alone, without anyone we knew or had a relationship with. There is no question that our birth was a thousand times better because Britney was our guide. As a dad she also made my experience better because it gave me a unique chance to be involved in a caring way during the labor.

I was searching everywhere for something or someone that could help us, and I found Sandy's information online! Sandy came over and taught us about putting our daughter on a schedule, as well as sleep training. By 6 months, our daughter was sleeping through the night! She is now a year old, and is such a great sleeper. Regardless of teething, developmental leaps, etc., she continues to sleep through the night. Others are amazed at how well she sleeps. We never thought we would get to this point, but with Sandy's compassionate guidance, we did! We got referred to Alyssa and thankfully she was able to be w me w short notice. Now I'm a firm believer that everyone should have a doula! She was very helpful with keeping me on track with my goal of a natural birth. Helping with positions, keeping me focused, and making me feel as comfortable as possible with each phase. I will def hire Alyssa if I have another much earlier. And I would say especially if l ever have a hospital birth it would be soooooo helpful to have someone else there helping you. I was able to keep my birth plan I had hoped for. Such a doula advocate now haha

We LOVE Alyssa!!! She took so much time with us during our consultation and prenatal appointments…read moreanswering all our questions and concerns. She checked in every couple days to see how I was doing while waiting for labor to begin. I went into labor at 2:30 AM and texted her at 2:50 AM to let her know and was at my house by 3:30am. She helped me through the contractions by giving counter pressure on my hips (a serious godsend) and massaging my back. She also made sure I was eating and drinking enough throughout the day. My labor stalled a couple times throughout the day so she suggested things to help get it going again (I.e. Walks, changing positions, pressure points). At 5:50pm we arrived at the birth center and she continued to support me through contractions. My midwife swept my membranes and went for a walk. My water broke during the walk and she helped me back to the birth center where I felt a TON of pressure. She alerted the midwife that I must be getting close. During the time I was pushing she was telling how much of the baby she could see and getting me cold washcloths as well as saying encouraging words to me when I felt I could not continue. My healthy baby girl was born at 7:20 pm weighing in at 8.3 pounds. Alyssa was with me for 16 hours during my labor and birth, and stayed an additional 2 hours after to make sure we were settled before we left to return home. I honestly do not think I would have been able to have my unmedicated birth without her constant attention and support through my labor. Having her attend my birth was invaluable and I will be definitely have her attend my next birth!

All the more reason to have someone on your team for extra support and encouragement. Once I got to active labor & pushing, everything became a blur. But I remember Maddie's calming and loving presence, her stroking my hand & fixing my hair, guiding my husband, & just being there when everything was getting too intense. We also utilized Maddie's postpartum services while I remained in the hospital after giving birth, which I HIGHLY recommend if you can swing it (most hospitals don't have nurseries!). Side note--if you have to choose between doula services for prenatals, birth support, or postpartum, I recommend going for postpartum support. Postpartum is no joke-- I'd rather labor and give birth twice than deal with the immediate postpartum period again.

The booking process through her website was super easy, and she was communicative and kind leading up to the session. She arrived right on time to our Airbnb, and from the moment we met her, she gave off the most calming, grounded energy. My husband had his massage first and immediately gave it a 5/5 - he raved about how great it was and encouraged me to book one too (he actually said it was one of the best massages he's ever had). I'm usually a bit hesitant about massages (not super comfortable with strangers touching me), but there was something about Supinda that put me at ease. I'm so glad I went through with it. Her touch was incredibly intuitive and restorative, and the whole experience just felt... healing. I had been pretty sick leading up to the trip, and that session honestly helped me feel like myself again. We'll absolutely book with her again the next time we're in Joshua Tree. Can't recommend her enough!

From start to finish, Supinda was very hands on and informative while also very soft spoken and calming. This is mine and my husband's first baby so we wanted to gain any piece of knowledge to help us feel confident once the time comes to welcome our daughter into the world. Supinda tailored the class to our specific concerns and needs and addressed any and all areas we felt uncertain about. The lesson itself was very intimate and allowed time to feel connected to my husband. Since I am in the last week before my due date, she assisted my husband in pressing and located induction points to help get things going and also release any extra pressure my body was holding after some of the yogic poses. I am extremely grateful for Supinda and Sowing Seeds! If you are looking to feel more confident in your birth space, consider following her and joining in on the workshops. You won't regret it
