My son started off with a strong foundation in this program, and for the first couple of months, things felt really promising. But after the holidays, everything fell apart. We were unassigned from a tutor and left waiting on one teacher's return, while the interim tutor had no understanding of my son's needs and just gave him random, unstructured exercises. There was no communication, no continuity, and no accountability. The only meeting we had was one that I had to chase down and schedule. At that meeting, I was told we'd receive a follow-up by the end of March. It's now almost the end of April. I followed up again and was told someone would reach out. No one did. What's most frustrating is that we were sold a program that included regular performance check-ins, progress updates, and personalized support tailored to my son's executive functioning challenges. We completed all the onboarding and surveys with that in mind. None of that actually happened. The gap between what we were promised and what we received is massive, and this is after paying thousands of dollars each month. We were sold a dream: a well-rounded, thoughtful, and attentive program. What we got was inconsistency, poor communication, and a lack of care during a time my son genuinely needed reliable support. Parents, please be cautious. If you're looking for structure, follow-through, and actual accountability, I would not recommend working with this business.

After cancelling our subscription, due to the issues listed below, we were told the payment would be refunded. Instead, they billed the next session to our credit card. After multiple attempts to reach someone with the authority to refund both payments, I finally called the credit card company to dispute and stop payment. Again, with many many emails and unreturned phone calls, even to the CEOs, the bank was able to settle the dispute after almost 6 months. The owners may be Harvard Grads, but something does not feel quite right, and they do not seem to be active in the business. After a year of sessions, I asked for an assessment of our daughter's progress. We received what seemed like a lot of "mumbo jumbo" of data and words, without evidence of progress that we could track. Within a week following the assessment, our daughter's tutor, with whom she had built a good relationship, was let go. With no notice, she was assigned a new tutor, and the only time slot they could offer was late Friday evening. We decided it was not a substantial value, so we cancelled. Eventually the site closed.

Mr. Test Prep's approach and clear value proposition really stood out to me in the sea of the multitude of tutors and SAT prep services. We gave it a try, our son Ethan loved Michael's style, and format, and it was a good fit for our family's needs all around. My son (who actually does well with online learning) did the trial and felt he could do better on his own. I eventually got someone who did in person tutoring. In my experience, a lot of these online classes and tutors benefit the tutor but not the students. If you have a student who does well with online teaching, maybe this is okay. But if you want to pay big money, make sure you get results. For our family, the benefit of taking the SAT over and over was good. But not having any human interaction with the tutor or peers was not good. My son eventually scored a 1570 but with an in person tutor and taking the SAT five times.

I have 2 different types of learners, and Mathnasium knows how to cater to each child's individualized needs. I have one child who has always been super strong at math, understands concepts quickly and retains information well. Through the efforts of Mathnasium as well as our own support at home, this student is now in the accelerated math program at school. My other student is a little less diligent, often makes careless errors and is more of an average math student. However, he is now in the top math group too for his grade. Kids may do their math homework here and the tutors will help them, but I don't usually have my kids do this unless they are feeling overwhelmed with the amount of schoolwork they have that day. Usually, I want to spend our time there learning Mathnasium's curriculum to make sure kids are getting incremental learning opportunities in addition to their school's content. While my kids go to an excellent school, I feel math in CA feels a little behind compared to other states (esp east coast states) and certainly behind that of many other countries. Mathnasium gives me peace of mind that my kids are being appropriately challenged. My parent philosophy on Math is that just like anything else, the more practice and exposure you have, the better you become. Overall, I am very happy esp because the kids never complain and are very happy to go twice a week. They have made friendships with the tutors and speak about their Mathnasium "friends" often at home. We highly recommend this center.

My daughter went to BK for two years, starting at 9 months old. In our search, we were specifically…read morelooking for a center-based daycare, small class sizes, and a warm environment. Class size is small in the infant room but I did not pay enough attention to the older classes. My daughter's last class (started at 23 months but not sure of the age cutoff) had 24 students with 3 teachers at one point and I believe it's down to 18 students with 3 teachers now. My daughter was getting sick very often and I wish I'd been more mindful about class sizes in the older classes in choosing her daycare. However, I think this is the price you pay when going for a center vs. in-home daycare. When touring BK, I noticed the admin seemed to know some of their students by name. My daughter had serious stranger danger so, a caring environment was a must. I was blown away specifically by Ms. Maria. She works mornings in the baby room and is the first teacher on site. If dropping off your child before 8:00, children go to Ms. Maria's room. My daughter's transition to daycare went well because of Ms. Maria. And by "well," I mean she stopped crying at drop-offs after a few weeks. Considering her strong stranger danger at the time, this was HUGE. I cried in my car the first time my daughter reached for Ms. Maria. But, I knew my daughter was comfortable so I was also very, very grateful. Two things I wish I asked about during the tour: 1. Allergy procedures 2. Teacher turnover 1. My daughter had a mild reaction to dairy. This was a new allergy at the time and was not yet confirmed by a doctor until after her start. We did inform the center of her allergies regardless. The center confirmed that this was added to their allergy list. However, my daughter was given dairy two days in a row. The second time being more bothersome, warranting a call home. The admin response was to send our daughter to school with food from home on the days when dairy was being served. However, their menu does not list allergens within the foods so we were guessing which foods did and did not have dairy. We were wrong a few times so we asked about including allergens in the menu. This was the managers reply: " We understand that when it comes to food allergies, we must take all precautions to avoid allergic reactions to products. When ordering in bulk and when the products are unavailable, we sometimes have to source some products from local stores. This can make it challenging to list allergens on the menu ahead of time." We were also told per the manager, Raji, that they would "check if adding any information to the menu is possible." No information was added. 2. The teacher turnover rate seems pretty high. At least 10 of my daughter's past teachers no longer seem to work there. And changes happen without informing the families, nor are there introductions, so there's always new faces in the rooms. Not sure if this is the norm in other centers or if teachers are unhappy at BK. Pros: - a handful of caring teachers - extracurriculars: yoga, soccer, and music (all of which my daughter LOVED) - academics in the oldest class (my daughter wasn't in this class but I've met a couple students from this class. They were certainly kinder-ready) - app with photos/videos/summaries of what students are learning and doing -- though very inconsistent. I'm not sure how often summaries are sent but at least once a month (photos are shared daily)

I questioned the tour guide on the spot, and was told that the school provides complimentary drinks for teachers every day, and that this poses no safety risk since they've never had an incident where hot water was spilled on a child. This response shows that the school prioritizes not offending teachers over children's safety.

For my 2 year old, I couldn't have chosen a better school. I toured all in the area and after careful evaluation we landed at this school for many reasons and very happy with that choice. We opted for 5, half days and it was perfect for my family and work/life balance.

My mom has always been "threatening" that she was going to get me a tutor. I've never had a tutor before, so my expectations when coming into this center were low. I'll be honest, working with AJ tutoring has been such an amazing journey. My tutor, Katie Szelong, has be really a life changer for me. She picked me up from a place of failure and helped me reach what I never could have achieved myself. Katie introduced me to a whole other world of Reading and Math and just life in general. I could not have asked for a better tutor. Not only has she helped me with in-school things, but she's given me such a vast understanding of things I had never even noticed before. I can not recommend Eric M at AJ tutoring highly enough. My son has adhd and isn't the easiest to encourage to do his work or attend tutoring. He needed help preparing for the SAT and Eric was amazing from the start. He spoke with me about my son so he could be prepared with not only a lesson plan but also with the best approach to help him succeed. Somehow his way with my son made him believe in himself and suddenly he was doing the homework (unheard of :) and getting to his sessions on time. Eric gave me feedback and kept me up to date while letting it be my sons process and empowering him. When there was an occasional blip with putting in the effort I would simply email Eric and he would communicate in this effective way that really changed my sons attitude toward the process. Tom Nolin prepared me well for the SAT Math 2 Subject Test and because of him my score improved drastically. He stressed the importance of "demystifying" the test, and by gaining a better understanding of how the test is written and how to approach problems, I became far less intimidated by questions I didn't immediately understand. He and everyone else at AJ was incredibly kind and helpful; I would (and have) recommend AJ to anyone struggling with a certain subject that wants to expand their knowledge and improve their performance. We love AJ tutoring - and are especially grateful for the teaching and guidance Chiranjeevi (CJ) has provided to our 11th grade son over the past 2.5 years. We have seen our son's confidence soar, along with his enthusiasm for math, and school in general. CJ communicates clearly both short and long-term goals with his students and involves them in directing the process. He encourages our son to challenge himself, and has made these challenges fun. I've had the pleasure of working with AJ on multiple occasions, and I've never regretted my decisions. All of my test scores have improved by miles, and my confidence with other testing has also been helped by my tutoring. My most recent test prep was with David Griswold who was an excellent teacher, as well as diligent tutor. He was always willing to help, and if I had a misunderstanding or problem, David never ceased at attacking the problem until I understood. He took extra time out of his way to confer with colleagues, and create additional prep I might use to improve my understanding. AJ Tutoring was willing to limit his sessions to 1 hour based on other time commitments, but even 1 hour a week has made a difference. He's been working with Axel for Algebra and Trig and his math grade has been an A since he's been getting the extra help (whereas before, it was closer to a C). Axel sends updates about once a month, telling me what they've been working on - where the improvements can be seen and different strategies for making things even better. My son has worked with Angela Goldberg to prepare for his SATs - both before the pandemic, during the pandemic, and now after school started up again. Angela has been fantastic! My son in his senior year would like to try his last shot in SAT physics. He can't endure the 12-week 3hrs sit-in group class each time from other learning centers; he wants the prep class to be efficient and obtains the most of the coverage in a short period of time. Over the course of our 9 months together I learned so much from Elizabeth (Lizzi) Chapital. Lizzi was an excellent tutor for my AP AB Calculus class. We met every week to review new concepts, go over questions, prepare for exams, and practice concepts. With her help I really excelled in my class earning a very high overall grade and AP score. As a first year student at AJ Tutoring, I did not know what tutoring would entail. I was assigned to Sebastian von Zerneck for my English Class, and was blown away throughout the year by the quality of his guidance and also the quality of facilities that AJ Tutoring provides for its students and tutors. My daughter was very fortunate to work with Hailey Koh at AJ Tutoring, San Antonio. She is an excellent tutor and my daughter shared wonderful rapport with her. Hailey helped daughter prepare for AP Chemistry and SAT Chem subject Test prep. Daughter had a 5 on AP Chemistry and 800 in SAT Chemistry subject test. My tutor, CJ, has helped me SOO much and I've come so far. My SAT score has improved by 350+ points from when I took a practice test for the first time. He is able to break down complicated math problems and explain in a way that makes sense. I expected a premium tutoring service like AJ to be able to run practice test sessions routinely and smoothly because when they don't it causes additional stress and time on the students and parents. My son was struggling with his school work in 8th grade: he was disorganized and confused, and had such a backload of assignments he didn't know where (or how) to start. I tried for months to get him on track myself, helping him with his homework, preparing for quizzes and tests. Nothing seemed to work. In a moment of desperation I asked around for recommendations and a number of neighbors suggested Lumen Learning Center. I talked to Louise and she put my mind at ease. She worked with both my son and his school, and came up with a plan of action. With infinite patience she (and Melissa and Gabe) guided and taught him, and slowly things began to turn around. After months of hard work my son finally graduated from Middle School, thanks to Lumen Learning Center. Louise took a boy who was unmotivated and full of self-doubt, and prepared him for academic life in High School. I cannot recommend their services enough.

Not Disability-Friendly & Big Drop in Quality After Management Change…read more I worked with Goals Art Academic Tutor through the Department of Rehabilitation while dealing with a serious health condition that affects my memory and brain function. They knew this from the beginning. The whole point of me being there was to get help building systems so I wouldn't forget tasks, emails, assignments, and basic things that come with school and life. At first, the experience was much better. When Mason was there, the service felt more supportive and accountable. If there were issues, he checked in and made sure things were handled. After he left, the quality of service went downhill. Leadership didn't take the same level of responsibility when problems came up, and concerns were mostly kept "within the tutors" instead of actually being addressed at a higher level. One of my tutors (Brianna) was great and genuinely supportive. My experience with another tutor (Maddie) was not a good fit at all. Our sessions felt uncomfortable, and at one point I was told things that made me feel like I wasn't going to succeed. She also made negative comments about my other tutor, which put me in a really awkward position. I tried to request a change in tutor because it wasn't working for me, but I wasn't given that opportunity. What made this worse is that when concerns were raised, it felt like leadership relied more on what this tutor reported rather than actually checking in with me or looking at my progress. At the time, I had been sick and told her I was behind on some assignments, which is pretty normal when you're dealing with health issues. What wasn't acknowledged is that I had caught up, completed my work, and finished my exams shortly after. That context didn't seem to matter. Instead of adjusting strategies to support my memory and health-related challenges (which is literally what DOR is paying them to help with), it felt like the blame was put on me. The support I was supposed to receive to help me remember things like emails and tasks wasn't consistently implemented until very late in the process. There was progress happening, but it got overshadowed by internal issues and poor handling of concerns. In the end, my services were terminated without a real conversation or collaborative attempt by the CEO. It felt dismissive and honestly pretty hurtful, especially as someone with a disability trying to rebuild skills after a major health setback. If you're someone with ADHD, neurological issues, memory problems, or any kind of disability, please be careful with this organization. They may work fine for people without complex needs, but in my experience, they are not well-equipped or properly trained to support people with disabilities. The service changed over time, and not in a good way. I'm now working with a different agency that actually understands disability-informed support, and the difference is night and day.

They found another tutor and my child started the process again, getting to know this new tutor, as the new tutor was also coming up to speed. Then this tutor left. In total, they had four tutors work with my child. The last person was very pregnant, although we couldn't tell as the sessions were on-line. She was with my child for only a month prior to going on maternity leave. Then they offered to find a new tutor for the few remaining weeks of the school year and I just had to cancel services. Considering the amount of time necessary for both the tutor and the child to learn about each other and comfortable move forward in the learning process, I am unable to recommend this team to anyone as their style of replacing tutors is counterproductive.
